Here you can learn all about the prehistoric peoples who inhabited northwest Florida. Local tribes built a large earthen mound here that, with a roughly 50,000-square-foot footprint, is one of the largest prehistoric earthworks on saltwater. This site, which is still considered a sacred burial ground, was a center of religious, political, and social activity but now is a reminder of a lost world. A small museum explains the mound and the people who built it, showcasing prehistoric American Indian artifacts and weaponry as well as a few hands-on exhibits that are a reminder of the area's inhabitants between AD 700 and 1500.
