The Orthodox Cathedral of Athens, dedicated to the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary, is located at the Mitropoleos Square on the homonymous street. Its construction began in 1842 and was completed in 1862. The temple type is a cruciform three-aisled basilica with a dome. In the interior of the temple, in the marble larnaca that is the work of Giannoulis Halepas, the relic of the nationalist Patriarch Gregory E, as well as of Agia Filothei of Athens, is preserved. Access to the temple is made by Metro stations Syntagma and Monastiraki.
