Why locals recommend it

On this popular island, Kugenuma Beach is a great surfing spot for beginners—the waves aren’t too high, and you can surf all year round. There are lots of shops along the main street, including surfing stores and diving schools, so you don’t need to bring any equipment. It’s about 90 minutes south of Tokyo. After your surfing session, I recommend going to the Enoshima Koya beach hut for a bite to eat. It’s open from 8 am, so you can go even after an early-morning surfing session. The rice bowls are delicious, and they have one that’s topped with fresh shirasu—small fish that are an Enoshima specialty.

Easy access by Odakyu line. Beautiful seashore and exciting water activities such as water jet pack or surfing. Most of my foreign friends first choose this place when I ask them where the best is.
