Maccallum Seawater Pool

Why locals recommend it

I cannot believe this pool isn’t more famous—firstly because it’s outrageously cute, with its deco heritage and sweet timber edging, but also because it sits right on the harbour, with front-row views of the bridge and city. And it’s totally free. Locals come here to laze in the sun and enjoy a quiet swim. You should bring your camera! People rave about the Bondi to Coogee walking track, but the Cremorne Point track—where you’ll find McCallum Pool—is one thousand times more beautiful. It’s official. Get your cardio fix passing little aqua coves, secret eucalypt groves, and grand old mansions, then cool down afterward with a swim.

Maccallum Pool, on the western side of Cremorne Point, is a unique harbourside pool with heritage character and superb views. Its waterside timber deck is an unparalleled sun bathing spot - especially on winter afternoons. It was originally just a rock pool created by local residents to form a safe harbour swimming hole. The architectural style of the current pool dates back to the 1920s and was restored in keeping with this heritage theme by the local council in 1985-86.

Public, free (no charge) seawater pool on the harbour. Spectacular views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House. Set on Cremorne Point, there is lots of room to sit and have a picnic before or after a swim.
