Dessert Shop
“Inspired by the Canadian ice-cream brand from Manitoba, Dickie Dee is located right off Ermou Street, a stone’s throw away from Syntagma Square. A recent addition to Athen’s selection of ice-cream parlours, Dickie Dee specialises in delicious soft-serve ice creams. Here, you will find a wide range of scrumptious flavours, such as fior di latte or pistachio from Sicily. There are even vegan ice creams for those with dietary restrictions. It’s a tiny store that packs in plenty of flavour and charm for those on the lookout for a refreshing icy dessert. Open every day from 10am to midnight.”

“Not your traditional greek food place, but if you’re after a quick bite when walking around this great neighborhood you have to try these bao buns! One of my favorite street food restaurants!”

Souvlaki Shop
“Don’t leave Athens without trying “Souvlaki” in Hoocut! Owned by 5 famous chefs this place became talk of the town and for a reason. You can choose among 4 different meat variations (pork, chicken, beef and lamb) to fill your souvlaki (pita bread is homemade and that’s a big +) My personal best is the lamb variation with french fries, tomato and their signature sauce. In addition you can accompany your meal with various salads (all vegetables originate from small farms around Greece to ensure high quality!) ”

Restaurant
“Arguably the neighbourhood’s bedrock, it is an institution which has been going strong for almost a century. Although the eponymous Mr. Oikonomou still lives above the restaurant, business has been in the hands of the colourful Mr. Kostas Diamandis for two decades—a "they don’t make ‘em like they used to” Greek, with a dry sense of humour and a big, kind heart. In the open kitchen, the female cook, Garyfallia, dishes out no-nonsense family fare such as roast baby lamb with waxy-lemony potatoes, rabbit casserole, or stuffed cabbage leaves (beef and rice) in a silky egg and lemon (avgolemono) sauce. Don’t be shy to ask for wine from the “reserve” barrel in the basement, and make sure you try some of the amber-red quince preserve Kostas makes himself, for dessert.”
