Before this big autumn event, all boards should be organized. "Årjängsmåten" or "Silbodalsjul" are the alternative local names in this market. Silbodal is the name of the congregation. A long tradition A border trade has almost always existed in these Swedish outlying areas along the national border with Norway. In the past - as well as now - it was a tug of war about which side of the border money would be traded in goods. Årjängs Marknad dates back to the 17th century with two markets a year, a winter market in February and an autumn market in September. It began, as usual, with the livestock market and the sale of groceries. Today's Årjängs Marknad attracts once a year, always the third weekend in September and attracts many visitors with mopeds, fun fair, exhibitions, catering and trotting. Trade and entertainment The earlier character of the horse and livestock market has obviously changed significantly. The type of trade is very large, but the entertainment range balances the overall experience in a perfect way for large and small. Here is a fun fair with a lot of attractions both on the ground and in the air. Song and music are here and there. Disco is offered to those who wish to dance. Something to eat and drink One special phenomenon is the serving of cabbage soup in the market stalls. Troll sausages, small locks, waffles and coffee and more are available in several places. Nordmarken's Tramway Adjacent to the market area is the well-known trotting track where there is always trotting under the market weekend. Adjacent to the trotting track is the Nordic Tram Museum, which is unique in its kind. When is the market? The market is now always in the third weekend of September. It starts on Friday afternoon to reach its culmination on Saturday and focus on families with children during Sunday. Here, happy sellers and happy buyers meet Årjäng's Market can count on approximately 100,000 visitors during a market weekend. To satisfy expectations, 700 seats are offered to sellers of all kinds of goods. Not only the successful seller comes to Årjäng's market. Local companies also book space for, for example, demonstrations of new products. A large part of the municipality's association life utilizes the opportunities for sale of lottery tickets. Total sales are significant. The marketing committee receives a surplus, which is distributed to the associations in exchange for work efforts
