A trip to Castine is not complete without a stop at our local lighthouse. First established in 1829, the light was deactivated in 1937 and replaced by a skeleton tower 475 feet (145 m) to the south. When that structure was destroyed by a storm in 2007, however, the old light was reactivated in 2008.
Don't leave Castine without checking out Dyce's Head Lighthouse, and if you are up for it there is a small trail that leads down to the rocky coast.
This beautiful lighthouse is just a short easy walk from Sea Breeze! There is a path through the back yard of the lighthouse with steep stairs down to a rocky ledge which is a favorite place of locals to fish! The view is incredible..please just be careful & mind your step!! If you’re lucky, the lighthouse will be open to visitors..it is open a couple of times a year!!
