Why locals recommend it
The crowd is very eclectic—you’ll see sweatpants and sports coats. Everyone’s open minded and it's a great place for local dancers to get down. Every 4th Saturday is a party called thePeople, and the resident DJs Cecil, Cali, HeyLove along with their guest DJs are top notch. They’re always playing forward thinking, soul oriented dance music. Get there early for discounted entry and stay late—the drinks stop at 2am, but the party keeps bumping.

Reggae Gold every Sunday night - kicks off later for the dance all night crowd - show up by 10:15 to avoid long door lines. Reggae & Soca - the DJs can't be beat! Great outdoor patio is in the style of the French Quarter. It's a bit smoky, but that's the point if you are going outside during this…

Bar
“No one orders coffee here. Not a cafe. If a guy was collecting a lot of random stuff and dropped a lot of acid, then perfected a Greyhound by fresh squeezing grapefruit juice to order, and then opened a dive bar several decades ago - that’s Cafe Van Kleef. Owner was a legendary figure, bar carries on in his memory. Giant bouncers. Try and get there before or after the music starts. Always a terrible band. In a town of great musicians. Must be part of the mystique. Not to be missed. Seriously, order a Greyhound. ”
