Simple and perfect recipe for a successful family outing in close proximity. Rhodes Park is filled with old trees and hidden corners, with ponds, little lakes with ducks (you're even allowed to fish in these), a couple of jungle gyms, a library, tennis courts, a football field, an amphitheatre and a bowling club. The park is filled with open spaces in which to picnic and explore, a myriad photo opportunities await you, and a chance to zone out and enjoy sun-filled days in the southern suburb of Kensington. The best part of the park is the huge, old trees that provide shade under which to sit and while away the day. But the sports areas are also used and anyone can sign up for a game of tennis. Even the amphitheatre is in use from time to time for theatrical performances. The library organises story time for children on request, and the annual Kensington Spring Fair is held in Rhodes Park on the first Sunday in September.
