Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park

Why locals recommend it

At the southernmost point of Roosevelt Island, this sculpture park that’s a memorial to FDR will clear your head. With towering trees overhead and open views across the East River, it almost feels like you’re moving forward when the tide rushes toward you. The overall shape of the park resembles the Masonic symbol on the US dollar bill. In the morning, before the afternoon barbecue crowd shows up, the park has a more meditative feel.

Located on Roosevelt Island, take the Tram at 59th and 2nd Avenue and enjoy the views above ground and from the far point of the island overlooking East Manhattan Skyline and Brooklyn Bridge.

It is the nicest park in NYC. Take the Roosevelt Island Tram at 59th street and 2nd avenue up and over the east river to Roosevelt Island.

With a stunning view of Manhattan and Queens, this impeccably landscaped park and monument to FDR has been used as the backdrop for Kanye West's fashion shows and Hillary Clinton's campaign kick-off. It is normally very quiet and peaceful and is open to the public - check their website for the hours, which are seasonal.
