Hiking trails for days and days in the Old Growth Redwood trees. Visit the famous "Fern Canyon" filmed in Jurassic Park. Stop in at the Visitor Center just South of the town of Orick for maps and hiking tips.

This is the place I love to go to spend time in the Redwoods, the Arcata forest is second growth, while Prairie Creek is Old Growth with an intact understory ecosystem. I just recently hiked the Cathedral Trees loop and it was gorgeous and full of huge trees. I don’t go for the height tho, I go for the peacefulness and lushness of the forest! Everything around you is alive and thriving with clean energy!

There are many trails at Prairie Creek State Park and the James Irvine Trail is our favorite. You feel as though you've stepped to a magical fairy forest. Giant redwoods, trilliums, ferns, and shamrocks border the trail, giving it the appearance of a manicured woodland garden. Keep in mind that this trail will connect you to famous Fern Canyon, but be warned, it is a very long walk back to your car.
