Oloolua Nature Trail

Why locals recommend it

This is an incredible patch of indigenous forest located in leafy Karen, a short drive from the city centre. There’s a nature trail, and it’s home to an array of tree and plant species, and a few different species of monkey. There’s also a crowned eagle’s nest, which is thrilling to spot, and the forest is lovely for a picnic. At the entrance to the forest there’s the Institute of Primate Research, which is worth the small entry fee. The Karen Blixen Museum, the original home of famous Karen Blixen, who wrote the book Out of Africa, is also nearby if you want to get an understanding of Nairobi’s history.
