Southbank Skate Space

Why locals recommend it

When you think of the UK skate scene, London and the Southbank are the first places that spring to mind. The Southbank undercroft was not built with the intention of creating an iconic skate spot. It’s dark and dingy with mismatched flooring. Due to its history and difficulty, it attracts the best skateboarders and teams in the city. Expect large crowds watching you while you skate at this spot. It’s located right next to the River Thames at the heart of the Southbank—a place that draws thousands of tourists each day. My friends and I kind of forget they’re there, but it can be quite intimidating if you’re not used to it.

The South Bank (home to the London Eye, British Film Institute (BFI) Royal Festival Hall, Hayward Gallery etc also has a great skateboard area in what looks like an old underground car park. Another great place to hang around and watch kids skate and watch people watching them. Also loads of living statues and other performers especially at the weekend.

Worth a look, this skate park is covered in graffiti and street-art. They seem to hate people taking pictures though, word to the wise!
