Tips from locals
A bit like Brighton, but with some warships and historic dockyards thrown in for good measure. A fab day out.
Some great independent restaurants and bars. A vast common that runs along the beach, perfect barbecue spots. The best place nearby to go for a long run or walk along the seafront.
Relax on the beach and enjoy the many bars and cafés along the seafront - maybe even fish and chips!
The older part of southsea has many small shops, it’s quite an arty place. I particularly like ‘the garage lounge’ (however this is off the seafront and further in to southsea) please see in my food and drink recommendations. It’s worth walking from the ferry port, through ‘hot walls’ and up and…
lots to do here, funfair, eateries, amusements, aquarium, hovercraft visits to Isle of Wight, beach.

“The UK's best connected port Portsmouth International Port is perfectly positioned for ferries, cruise and freight. We’re Britain’s best-connected ferry port with easy access and the most routes to France, Spain and the Channel Islands. We also offer a great range breath-taking cruise destinations, sailing aboard luxury liners. Portsmouth is also a dynamic commercial port: we import most of the bananas eaten in the UK, and much more.”

“It's a Wetherspoons. Good Curry nights. Cheap beer. Good value breakfasts too, with unlimited tea and coffee. Viscount (Lord) Palmerston served more than nine years as Prime Minister and died in office, in 1865, aged 80. He also had a series of forts built to protect Portsmouth Harbour and it's dockyard. However, the threat of invasion receded and the forts became known as ‘Palmerston’s Folly’.”

“15 to 20 minute walk accommodation, so if you need a place to stay after the match. This is an ideal location as plenty of pubs on the way.”
