Right in Honalo, this family local establishment has a long history and highlights the Japanese American culture in Hawaii. Excellent homestyle (Japanese homestyle :)) food provides a unique experience.

Great Japanese food. Check the hours as they are closed for a couple hours in the afternoon.

Oldest restaurant on Big Island. Known for their pork chops, the fish and other mains are good, too. Sides are served family-style in sharing bowls. Step back in time and also have a delicious Japanese-influence meal.

Park
“You can drive or walk in, but I recommend once you reach park, walk North along the coast until you get to what locals call Makalawena. You'll know you're there once you hit a very long stretch of White sand and Crystal Blue water. You will come across a couple of beaches that fit this description, but unless you're walking for about 20 minutes minimum, they are not It! Makalawena is a beauty of 2 worlds....White sand with Blue Water and if you continue on, it'll turn into a rocky landscape with brackish water ponds. There is an entrance directly into Makalawena, but the road is treacherous and a 4 wheel drive vehicle is needed!”
