The churchyard of Saint Mary's, which houses 99 yew trees, was described as "the grandest churchyard in England" by the renowned historian Alec Clifton-Taylor. Legend has it that if a hundredth yew is planted, the devil will come to remove it.

Beautiful area to explore the center of Painswick. Painswick is an enchanting village south of Cheltenham with beautiful old buildings. The church is a wonderful place to visit if you're looking for an equally historical experience. Do take a look at the graveyard, they have a Yew tree garden here which was planted around a century ago.
