The gateway to the Roan highlands, Carvers Gap is one of the most pristine natural areas in our region and is consistently ranked as one of the most scenic sections of the entire Appalachian Trail. Hike up to Round Bald for those classic 360 blue ridge views, or hike up through the ferns, rhododendron, and dense spruce forests to Roan High Knob for a taste of Appalachia in it's most raw form.

This hike at Carvers Gap leads you to the balds mountains then connects to the Appalachian Trail and the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail. If you are lucky you can enjoy seasonal huckleberries along the path. A must-do hike if you are in Roan Mountain. A great sunrise view as well if you can wake up in time!

This is a beautiful section of the AT right on the NC/TN border. Hike out towards Grassy Knob for spectacular 360 views. Always take extra layers as the temperature definitely gets chillier with the elevation. (Take some water and rain gear to be safe).
