Rijeka Cathedral was built during the 17th and 18th centuries, modeled on the famous church of Santa Maria della Salute in Venice. It is located in the old town, and valuable baroque altars, mostly the work of Rijeka sculptors, are kept in the church.
Rijeka Cathedral St. Vid is the only baroque round of monumental proportions built on the land of Croatia. The construction of this church was begun in 1638 according to the project of Jesuit architect G. Brian. The famous Venetian church of Santa Maria della Salute served as a model.
