For more than 1000 years, the Clan Chiefs and Lords of Lorn ruled large areas of Argyll & the Isles from Dunollie. Today it remains the ancestral home of the Clan MacDougall. The Dunollie Project is home to the Hope MacDougall Collection which is housed within the grounds. This is a folk-life collection which is recognized as one of the most important in Scotland. The castle ruin is fascinating and there are delightful woodland walks. There is an excellent cafe and shop. Another good day out.
