Tips from locals
Chenonceau Château has to be THE château to visit whilst in the Loire Valley. The "Ladies Chateau" is elegantly straddles the River Cher. There are stunning bouquets of flowers in each of the rooms and the kitchens are remarkable. Outside there are formal French gardens, the royal vegetable garden,…
The Renaissance gardens of Marie de Medici and Diane de Poitiers are complemented by a vast cottage and cut flower garden and recently created walled garden based on designs made in the 1950s by the legendary British landscape designer, Russell Page.
Arguably the prettiest of the chateau. Possible to cycle there, I've done it many times, all along the river.

“Its not really the chateau that we recommend, although beautiful, it is the stunning gardens. Laid out like a glorified 'potager' with formal planting, mixed with garden veg and flowers. A large lake with swans and a garden with perennial flowers, more like an English garden. Plenty of walks with stunning views over the garden. ”

“A must - this is one of our nearest châteaux. Don't forget to drive to 'rive gauche' to see the spectacular view of it from the other side of the river.”
