About this place
Established in 1978, Albertine is one of the very first wine bars of London. It quickly became popular in the TV and radio industry thanks to its proximity to the BBC Television Centre. The creators of Eastenders wrote their pitch here, were here when the first episode was broadcast and held script meetings here for some years. Legend has it that Albert Square itself is named as an homage to Albertine. The kitchen is supervised by Junior Bake Off judge and Leon co-founder Allegra McEvedy, whos mum Sarah originally opened the bar. Albertine offers a constantly changing menu of contemporary bistro dishes, with culinary influences from continental Europe and the Middle East. The ground floor bar is ideal for drinks and sharing plates while the upstair restaurant offers a cosier atmosphere in a home-feel dining room. There is also a private room at the top floor, which can be hired for private dinners and drinks receptions. An extensive wine list is constantly updated with new entries, with more than 20 wines by the glass and weekly specials. The focus here is on small productions, organic and biodynamic producers and less known appellations, with prestigious domaines sitting comfortably next raising stars of the winemaking world from both New and Old World.

Fabulous local joint, hot on wines, wooden tables.

Just down the road from BBC Television Centre, Albertine’s small bar has something of the student union about it, with closely packed, battered wooden furniture and a blackboard for wine and food specials.

If wine is more your style, you can’t get better than Albertine, a tiny, unassuming, candle-lit wine bar tucked just off the main thoroughfare. It opened in 1978 and boasts over 130 global wines on its menu. The bottles are sold at take-home prices, but 40 can also be ordered by the glass…

Fabulous local joint, hot on wines, no music, wooden tables. Small, intimate.

Cosy, candlelit place with traditional decor for notable wines, charcuterie plates & comfort food.
