They say to know the locals, you just have to visit their wet market. And so it is true with Sandakan. The Sandakan Wet Market is located at the city centre by the seafront. On the ground floor, you will find all the vegetables, fresh fruits, beef, chicken, dried fish and fresh fish being sold in different section. While on the first floor, at the back of the building, you will find souvenirs in the forms of tshirts, pants, handicrafts from the philippines being sold on stalls. It is the place where you bargain hard with the hawkers.
