This is the side of Charleston most tourists don't ever see! Fantastic authentic soul-food restaurant serving delicious meals non-stop; you get a taste of real family soul food. They have over 1000 Google Reviews. Walk to this place in 6 mins from our cottage.

literally one of the oldest restaurants in Charleston; the founder was the daughter of a slave; the soul food is unpretentious but delicious; literally the best place to eat in Charleston; named America’s classic restaurant by the James Beard Foundation in 2017

If you want to experience local, home-made soul food and you're ready to go out of the beaten path try Bertha's. Best Soul Food this side of the Mason/Dixon. You are not there for the ambiance but for the full south food experience. Pork ribs and fried chicken are my favs.
