The actual Isaac Hale Park was destroyed by the last lava flows, BUT immediately adjacent is our newest black sand beach. The sand is coarse and the surf may be rough. A good beach for surfers and strong swimmers,

The newest most recent black sand beach made. Created by the most famous Fissure 8 Lava eruption. Not a place to swim as the open ocean here is very rough and unpredictable.

See the newest black sand beach created by the recent lava flows. You'll get a close up view of the towers of lava that almost covered up this local surf spot.

Also known locally as Pohoiki, the newest black sand beach formed by the 2018 lava flow. Expansive beach but not good for swimming. Bring the sun shade as well. There are a few warm ponds to explore too and you can always watch the surfers.
