With England's largest forest and the biggest man-made lake in Northern Europe, this is a playground for cyclists, walkers and outdoor enthusiasts. A haven for wildlife, it also claims to have the best dark skies in England. Food is available and there is a visitor centre. Check the website for up-to-date information.

A large reservoir in North Northumberland excellent for walking and cycling. There is an annual Christmas wonderland event.
