January 2020Lovely traditional inn, a very old building. Lots of original features. Very large downstairs area with an open fire and old fashioned forms to sit on. Food is proper 'pub grub' and the portions are very generous indeed! We never needed to have any lunch :-). The location is just beautiful, in the middle of Eskdale; down the valley is the sea and up the valley you can walk over to Wastwater.

January 2020We were looking for somewhere to stay while we climbed some hills over the New Years period. I’m not keen on staying at a pub but it wasn’t a problem, it is in a great location.
It is a good value no thrills place, the room was clean and warm, spacious and everything needed for after a day in the hills. Lovely views down the valley, very peaceful.
The pub was warm and welcoming especially with all the Christmas decorations up. The staff were always friendly and helpful and Jonty, the host is a real local character who has a vast local knowledge, giving us advice on getting the most out our time in the area. We will come back.

January 2020The Inn is a historic period building at the foot of the Hardknot Pass, where Eskdale gets wider and greener. Ample pub food with extremely generous portions. Loved staying here, talking to Jonty and his staff, and walking the hills. There's original fittings like the bar, little wooden stairs up to the rooms, and the arched window in the stair. Compact and comfy.
