“Book this place now! We were so pleasantly surprised at the little details; the thick Sheridan towels, extra sharp Furi knives, remote control bed, projector with Netflix and not to mention the views. Maxwell is very accomodating, a great character with plenty of suggestions. Oh almost forgot the private beach which is a short walk away!”
WELCOME to a little piece of paradise. On an organic farm, bordering Cape Otway National Park, surrounded by trees, koalas, birds and other wildlife, is a unique, beautifully designed, eco-friendly "tiny-home", built from a shipping-container, and up-cycled building materials. It features a green-house bathroom with a hot tub surrounded by lush ferns and tropical flowers. Relax and rejuvenate your mind, body and soul. And explore the world famous attractions of the Great Ocean Road.
“The cabin was a unique and inspiring place to stay, especially after a few months in quarantine! The house and property are not just naturally beautiful and thoughtfully , but paying attention to the instructions and understanding the way the eco-house worked was really interesting and informative. The stove pipe heated the entire place quickly in winter, the wind roaring through the gum trees in the national park behind the house was quite a soundtrack, and the bathhouse is even more exquisite than the photos convey. Murray is an excellent communicator and instructions for access and use were super clear. I recommend others bring lots of extra firewood to really enjoy the indoor and outdoor fires, and also take the time time to understand how the elements of the house function, to bring the lessons of sustainability and waste reduction home after your holiday. I left feeling relaxed and inspired. Will definitely be back, and next time I'll try to run into Murray and his daughter Moni to pick their brains about how to design one for myself! Can't thank you enough for opening up this lovely home to the world!”
Secluded private sanctuary. Adjacent to the Otway National Park, Killala retreat is a peaceful secluded haven set on 1 hectare of exotic gardens. A beautifully appointed eclectic country home with original artwork, country kitchen, separate games room, handmade pottery and soft cozy sofas and an amazing vista over the valleys and hills above the township.
“We had driven out to Mark’s property on Friday night, after a week of work and a drive in the dark. Imagine then our happiness when we pulled up to the property, turned the key and found the lights on, soft jazz playing, and the most welcoming little country house. It was a wonderful beginning to a restorative weekend in a magical part of the world. The property is 6km from Apollo Bay, but feels like it’s much further away than that (in a very good way). Tucked into the dramatic hills and steep valleys of the Otways, and backing right onto native bushland, the mornings here are full of birdsong, the earthy smell of the forest and dappled sunlight. We cooked breakfast in the well- equipped, generous kitchen and took mid- morning strolls around the beautiful gardens and grounds (while admiring the view, the flowers and the many birds); in the evenings we used the bbq to cook up a feast and then sank into the comfy couches around the log fire. The cottage had everything we needed: consistent hot water, comfortable beds, clean linen, and air conditioning (we used it briefly on arrival to quickly warm up the place as we had arrived very late at night- it worked well!). The art pieces on the walls and in the gardens definitely added character and colour to the place! The location was the perfect base to explore both the Otways and the surf coast/ great ocean road, but with a property like this, you’d be hard pressed to leave. The house and grounds were a tranquil retreat and a balm for the soul, and we feel very privileged to have shared the space, even if it was just for a while. We can’t wait to be back.”
