Venice has always had a complexity of life, expecially in the past, very different from the mainalnd despite its proximity; the city was full of shops and "fonteghi" (warehouses) located at the ground floor of every house between the alley ("calle") and facing the canal. These work places and traiding posts allowed the flourishing of commerce, craftmanship and the cit'y self-sufficiency. The renovation of these particular places, nowadays left unused, are now passion of deeply fond of tradition architects. That's how "Casa Ruiz" was born, named after the Ruiz family, who owned a southamerican coffee and spices company dealing with venetian merchants. the house was used as warehouse for coffee, spices, ceramic an metal artifacts. The building is not very high, horse shoe shaped with an opening on the fondamenta and the canal. It was partly divided and partly lifted up recently but the charm of the place is intact, mostly due to the private courtyard that the house embraces. The renovation has unveiled all the typical characteristics of this kind of buildings: enormous windows in every room, an exit on the courtyard and massive beams painted on the high ceiling, with walls that are now and then interrupted by intertwining chimeys used for the processing of roasting coffe beans. at the moment "Casa Ruiz" is a comfortable house located in an interesting part of the city, for those guests who hope tp get to know a difference Venice, within its squares and alleys eternally the same. In Campo Santa Margherita are concentrated many clubs that are frequented both in winter and in the summer thanks to the tables placed outside bars, pubs, restaurants and pizzerias. In Campo Santa Margherita you can still see the Venetians intent on their daily lives, but also watch the children playing in the afternoon and on Sundays. Campo Santa Margherita is one of the larger open places in Venice after St. Mark's Square and Campo S. Polo. This square is celebrated for its night life.
