Other things to note
Proceno is the perfect place for travellers looking to slow down, disconnect, and experience one of central Italy’s most authentic hidden corners. Set on the border between Lazio and Tuscany, this small medieval village offers a rare combination of history, nature, silence, and strategic location. From the house, you can walk through quiet stone streets, reach the castle, admire open views across the Paglia valley, and feel immersed in a landscape of rolling hills, woods, rivers, and traditional rural life.
Its position makes it ideal for exploring both Tuscia and southern Tuscany. Proceno is close to Acquapendente, Lake Bolsena, Monte Rufeno Nature Reserve, Pitigliano, Sorano, Sovana, the Val d’Orcia, and the thermal areas of Sorano and Saturnia. It is also a peaceful alternative to the more crowded destinations nearby: a place where you can return after a day of exploring and enjoy real quiet, clean air, slow evenings, and village life.
Proceno is also directly connected to the Via Francigena, making it a natural stop for walkers, pilgrims, cyclists, and anyone interested in slow travel. The surrounding area is especially suited to cycling, gravel routes, e-bikes, and scenic countryside rides, with trails passing through valleys, ancient paths, forests, and panoramic hill roads. For guests travelling by bike, the location is particularly practical: you can explore the territory during the day, safely store your bike on return, and enjoy a relaxed meal or drink in the village.
What makes Proceno special is not only where it is, but how it feels. It is quiet without being isolated, historic without feeling staged, and rural without being disconnected. It offers access to culture, nature, food traditions, walking routes, cycling itineraries, and small-town authenticity. For those looking for a holiday that is slower, more grounded, and closer to the landscape, Proceno is an ideal base.
