Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Experience a blend of history and modern luxury in this thoughtfully converted 2-bedroom apartment, only two steps away from the stunning Cotswold Way and a 7-minutes Uber/taxi drive from the Stroud train station. Each room offers comfortable beds and en-suite bathrooms. The spacious living area, awash with natural light, is perfect for relaxation. Set in the heart of the Cotswolds, it's ideal for tranquil retreats or cultural exploration.

The space
The sturdy oak door leads into a ground floor reception hall, with plenty of space for muddy wellies or mountain bikes. Up the stairs to the main living areas; you will find a beautiful, vaulted reception room, with fully equipped kitchen, dining area and lots of space to relax.

There is a large screen TV, Playstation, Books, DVDs, Board Games.

There are two spacious double bedrooms (on the first floor and on the second floor), both with en-suite shower rooms. The upstairs maisonette bedroom has a view over the quietest part of Painswick Churchyard, famous for its 99 Yew Trees, and the legend that the 100th will never grow.

Each bedroom has a wireless phone charger, so you don’t need to worry about an adaptor if you’re travelling from overseas.

Other things to note
There's on street parking just a few yards from the front door (please don't park on the double yellow line directly outside the flat). If for any reason this is not available, free parking is available in the Stamages Lane car park around 50 yards away (23 hrs, no return within 1 hr).

The apartment is behind a glorious oak door that is slightly heavier than the average door, and upstairs. No lift provided. Please ensure that all members of your party are comfortable with using stairs.

One of the Old Library's feature rooms is the mezzanine bedroom. Children and pets should be supervised close to the transparent barrier overlooking the mail reception area.

The thermostat is located next to the doorway into the living area. To adjust the temperature, turn the front dial.

In our commitment to sustainability and caring for our planet, we’ve installed window sensors that automatically reduce heating when windows are open. This feature helps conserve energy and keeps our space as eco-friendly as possible. If the heating doesn’t turn on, please ensure that all windows are shut. We appreciate your help in making a positive environmental impact during your stay!

If you're attending a wedding or another event, we can connect you with a local hair and makeup artist. Just let us know when you book!

Neighbourhood highlights

Painswick is a beautiful base for all the local area has to offer. The famous Cotswold Way runs through Painswick and is one of a number of beautiful walks nearby. You are less than 20 minutes by car from Cheltenham, Stroud and Gloucester, and within a short drive of Tetbury, Bibury, Westonbirt’s famous Arboretum, Slimbridge Wildfowl Trust and a myriad of other special places.

Within an hour are the historic cities of Bath, Oxford and Bristol.

Painswick itself is a quiet and charming Cotswold village, with some pubs and restaurants, cafes and coffeehouses, all within a short walk of the front door.

The local diary includes:

The first snowdrops of the year at the nearby Rococo Gardens in January; top-flight rugby in Gloucester; horse-racing at the world-famous Cheltenham Festival in March, and the glorious madness of the Cheese-rolling at the end of May, on Coopers Hill, just a short drive or longer walk away.

The summer brings Gloucestershire County Cricket to Cheltenham; The International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford; glorious days out at Slimbridge Wildfowl Trust, Cotswold Wildlife Park; the Gloucester Goes Retro Weekend; fields of Lavender and opportunities to see the beautiful Cotswolds on long summer evenings.

Autumn in the Cotswolds is a time of wondrous colours – and nowhere better than Westonbirt Arboretum to see them. The Cheltenham Literary Festival takes place in October, and as the days gets shorter, and the nights get longer, the hospitality of a local Cotswold pub, maybe a meal, and a beverage to go with it, is enough to warm any evening.

Throughout the year there are Farmers’ Markets, outlet shopping, Gloucester’s historic docks, Cheltenham’s Michelin starred restaurants. All within a 20-minute drive of your home away from home, and a new story at the Old Library.
