Self check-in

If you’re fine with arriving and settling into a place on your own, you can search for places with self check-in. Self check-in means guests can access a place without needing the host to be there.

Access options for self-check in

Any time after their designated check-in time on their arrival date, guests can conveniently gain access via:

  • A key lockbox
  • A smart lock
  • A keypad
  • A key, or access via the building staff, such as a doorperson or receptionist, who must be available 24/7 to do so

Be sure to speak about the check-in time with your host to make sure the place is ready for you. Find out about arranging an early check-in time if you need it.

Self check-in for Italy

Based on the Circular of the Ministry of Interior from 18 November 2024, hosts with listings in Italy are required to meet guests in person to verify their IDs and share the details through Alloggiati Web within 6 hours (if a one-night stay) or within 24 hours, as provided under Article 109 of the Italian national security law (TULPS).

Hosts are ultimately responsible for ensuring that their guests have a smooth and compliant check-in experience, whether they handle it themselves or delegate it to others.
