If you need to change the dates of a confirmed home reservation, you can submit a trip change request to your host. Once you send the request, your host will receive a notification to approve or decline your request. Please note that only the person who made the original reservation may submit a trip change request or accept one proposed by the host.
Modifying the dates of your reservation may alter the total cost of your trip, depending on your host’s pricing.
Before submitting your trip change request, you’ll be shown both the original and the new total cost. Any necessary adjustments – either a charge or a refund – will be processed if the cost changes.
If the cost of your trip increases:
If the cost of your trip decreases:
If you booked using a pre-approval that your host sent, any change to the home reservation means that the price of the reservation will be recalculated as if it were a new booking.
Your host may be willing to offer you the same price as your original booking. Just message them to ask. If they agree, they can send you a trip change request with a new price.
If you booked with Instant Book, you may be able to add extra nights to your reservation and get instant confirmation – no need to wait for your host to approve.
When instant extension is available, you’ll see the updated price – including any additional nightly rates and fees – before you confirm.
You can only extend your reservation this way at least 72 hours before your scheduled checkout time.
When a trip change request is accepted, the taxes for a home reservation are always recalculated to apply the most recent and accurate tax requirements for the home’s location.
If the host declines your trip change request, or doesn’t respond, your reservation will stay the same.
You can’t make changes if your checkout has already passed. But you can always book a new stay with the host.
If you’re within the free cancellation window, you can cancel your reservation and rebook, so long as the hotel has availability.
If you’re outside the free cancellation window, you can contact the hotel directly to ask if they’ll offer you a refund so you can rebook. Or you can contact us, and we’ll request a refund from the hotel on your behalf.
Please be aware that any changes or a refund may not be possible as they’re strictly at the hotel’s sole discretion. Tip: Calling your hotel can lead to a quicker response.
Once you’ve submitted a trip change request, any later changes must go through the process again as a new request.
If your host hasn’t responded to the request and you no longer want to make changes, you can always withdraw your trip change request.
If a reservation is for 28 nights or more, the monthly stays cancellation policy applies. When a trip change request is submitted for a monthly stay, the change may happen automatically without requiring approval if:
If a monthly stay is shortened to a length of 27 nights or less (shorter stay), you’ll be responsible for the following 30 days of payment from the day of the alteration, or until the end of the reservation if less than 30 days remain.
Once a home reservation is altered from a monthly stay to 27 nights or less (shorter stay), the host’s standard cancellation policy will apply to future alterations or cancellations made to the updated reservation.
