TheLivInGallery 2 bedroom house Artist's Town

Named 'Artists town' after the Glasgow boys & Girls, artists like EA Hornell, EA Taylor, Jessie M King, and later Charles Oppenheimer 'colonised' Kirkcudbright. They were drawn to the quality of light and the close combination of town, harbour, sea and rural landscapes. In every direction from property, you can explore the same beautiful coast line, sandy beaches, forests, castles and cultural attractions that the artists did and still do, and who's work you are surrounded by in TheLivIngallery.

Cosy Cottage

The Old Post Office is a cosy little cottage on the High street of Scotland's smallest Royal Burgh. It was built in 1835 and was one of the many homes the local Post office has enjoyed over the centuries. There are steps up to the entrance and the staircase is quite steep and narrow so not suitable for all. The bedroom and bathroom are snug with low ceilings. The kitchen diner has a log burner for keeping the cottage toastie.

The lifeblood of this coastal community is the harbour and the countless tiny scenes that play out around it: boats rocking in the waves as fishermen unfurl their nets, seagulls swoop overhead, swans glide past castles, and cattle graze on the hills beyond. Kirkcudbright’s white-washed stone cottages and shops have hosted artists and crafters for centuries, while the region is a place for outdoor enthusiasts to explore the land, water, and even the sky at the local planetarium. Festivals and local markets are plentiful in Kirkcudbright, as well as cafés, tearooms, pubs, and restaurants.
