With stunning mountain views, kangaroos grazing at your doorstep and a roaring open log fire, the Stone Cottage creates a space to step back from the hectic pace of modern life. The cottage offers you 60 acres of beautiful native bushland as your own secluded getaway. A place to unwind and reconnect with life’s simple pleasures, exquisite sunrises, glorious sunsets and some well-earned downtime all set at the foot of the Grampians National Park.
“We had an amazing 5-night stay in the Stone Cottage, with the best possible view of all the wonderful wildlife within metres of the front door. Friendly chickens come knocking for a bread handout and the two horses in the paddock are partial to apple and pear! This is a truly special and unique accommodation with an interesting history. The cottage is set up with a downstairs bathroom and wonderful walk-in rain shower (or hand rose and seat if required). It was so handy to have a washing machine for the odd load during our stay. The downstairs double bed is very comfortable. There are 4 bunks in the other downstairs bedroom and another double upstairs. The location, near the zoo ensured total peace and quiet at night, yet with a car it was easy to access Halls Gap and the surrounding hikes, wineries and scenery of the glorious Grampians. We self catered, which was a breeze and were so happy to return after a morning out to enjoy the cottage and its environs. If you are looking for a special night out, make sure you book a table at Kookaburras Bistro in Halls Gap for an absolutely delicious meal. We can thoroughly recommend Stone Cottage; it has left us with the fondest memories.”

“First time YHA user! Friendly staff, easy going vibe, perfect ammenities. Great location & very affordable! Will use YHA again for sure!”
Our rustic 1903 mud-brick studio is made from river sand and mud sourced from the local Great Western area. The studio was built as a fruit kitchen by the Patching family who owned and operated a number of orchards along Concongella Creek and Salt Creek. The fruit kitchen has been recently renovated into a 1-bed studio which offers history and modern comforts. The cottage is surround by farm land meaning there is an abundance of animals to watch and enjoy, including Kangaroos.
“Definitely recommend this place for a couples getaway, the town of great western has some amazing history behind it and everyone is so warm and inviting. The love shack is perfect for a couples and in walking distance to major wineries. The effort that Debbie and Carl have gone to is perfect and they went above and beyond to make our weekend away memorable! We Definitely recommend the tour at Seppelts winery, the history and 3km of underground cellars tour guide with Linda is a must! X Jade and Malcolm.”
