“Wonderful detached converted barn with all the amenities you could want and dog friendly. There is a wood burner, very decent shower and a wonderfully comfortable bed and decent towels. The kitchen is fully equipped and there is a washing machine, fridge/freezer, bike storage, private garden and patio, and stunning views. Lydford itself is only a smattering of houses but has a pub in easy stumbling distance and a castle (free to enter) and church to explore. Lydford gorge (national trust) is just round the corner although it was closed 2 out of the 3 days that we were there and most of the gorge was closed off for the winter season. Lydford forest is just down the road and is very pretty and safe to let dogs off the lead. Kim was great and checked that we were OK and was very welcoming. We'll definitely be going back in the spring/summer.”

“Amanda was an excellent host. I was warmly welcomed and given delicious homemade scones and jam for tea. My room was delightfully comfortable and spacious. I enjoyed an evening meal at the local pub less than five minutes walk away. A great selection of fruit, cereals and cooked breakfasts was provided after a relaxing nights sleep. I have no hesitation in recommending Amanda as a host and would happily return.”
Detached cottage on the edge of Dartmoor. Located down a farm lane, adjacent to a private equestrian smallholding. Dogs welcome. Well equipped kitchen, good quality sofas and beds, high speed WiFi, reserved car parking space with EV charging^, gas central heating and wood burning stove for a cosy winter stay, air-conditioning for a comfortable summer stay.
“All in all a fantastic stay. Liz and Guy are exceptional caring hosts, like we have never met before. Even in difficult times like the lockdown, they tried their best to keep us safe and make us feel welcome. We are digital nomads without a homebase to go back to, so we feel so blessed we are allowed to stay in this lovely cottage and this beautiful garden with our two dogs. Couldn't think of any better place to live. The house is in a rural area, so a car is recommended. It's only a 10 minutes drive to beautiful Prewley Moor and Meldon Reservoir, where you can walk for hours in breathtaking landscapes. The closest bigger supermarkets are in Okehampton, less than 20 minutes drive. Prewley Moor car park is half-way, so you can easily combine hiking and shpooing. Squirreles Drey cottage is the perfect tranquil location for visiting Dartmoor and surroundings. There are many cool sights close by. You can drive around for hours and it's always beautiful and interesting. The house itself is nestled in the hills of Churdon, next to the hosts house, but with absolute privacy. Guy and Liz are the perfect neighbors and so are their beautiful horses. We arrived to a 100 % clean, specious and well-equipped cottage, with fantastic Dartmoor views from the bedrooms and the garden, where you can sit outside all day if you like. Our dogs enjoy relaxing in the sun on the soft grass, while we are having breakfast with a view. You wake up to nothing but birds. It's absolutely beautiful, and we can not recommend the stay highly enough. Thank you for everything guys!”
