Old Moorens is a cosy, traditional crofthouse on the rugged and beautiful West-side of Shetland. Charming and full of character, the house is situated only 200 metres from a quiet, shingly beach with beautiful sunset views. As well as this, it is only a short, 5 minute walk, to the main West-side bus route. The perfect base for exploring the many attractions Shetland has to offer in all seasons. Fresh, light and airy in the summer months with a wood burning stove for the colder nights.
“Jacqueline’s cottage is excellent, really well appointed and a great location. It really had everything we could need for our stay, including many nice touches that meant that we did not have to stock up on many of the necessities such as hand soap, dish washer tablets, that we normally bring with us or have to purchase. The location is really good for getting around the islands. Favourite places included Eshaness, Bannamin and Hermaness Nature Reserve (you must also visit Victoria’s Vintage Tea Rooms, for the best coffee and cake in the Archipelago)!”
Traditional croft house in a great central location for exploring all of Shetlands incredible scenery
“Pamela's place is delightful! My husband and I came for a week to celebrate 30 years together. The cottage was spotless, immaculately maintained, the bathroom was warm and the bed large and very comfortable. Great location just outside Scalloway and an easy drive to Lerwick. Pamela welcomed us personally and showed us how everything worked, having lit the stove and provided us with fresh flowers and a lovely hamper of essentials and treats. We had cold windy weather followed by warmer wet weather, but we managed a lot of exploring in the car as well as some very successful fishing (my husband) and a meetup with the local sea swimming group (me). We saw seals and an otter, lots of birdlife and endless fantastic scenery. Plenty of nice places to eat and very friendly helpful locals. My only complaint - a week isn't long enough! Can't wait to come back.”
A cosy stone built cottage, circa 1800, in a superb location on the outskirts of Lerwick. Gorgeous sea view, with the Sands of Sound beach just down the road and great access to coastal walks. Easy walking distance to Tesco and the Clickimin Leisure Complex, with Lerwick town centre only 1.25 miles away. There's a well equipped kitchen with a pully for drying clothes and also a good size living room. Mavine Cottage is a great base from which to explore all Shetland has to offer.
“Mavine Cottage has the best location we’ve yet found for our regular visits to Shetland. Looking south over Sound Voe and with the Sands of Sound beach a few minutes walk down the lane makes one feel part of the landscape like no other place we’ve stayed in Shetland. Waking to see the gannets and terns fishing just offshore and hearing the constant and soothing surf on the beach below is something we miss already now we’re home again. The cottage itself is actually a bit of a Tardis in that it is surprisingly spacious once inside with most things you might need including a handy pair of binoculars in the kitchen which proved the orca in the Voe to be a small fishing vessel..! Lol... We will be back next year...”
