AirCover for Hosts provides top-to-bottom protection every time you Airbnb your place. It now includes even more protection, with guest identity verification, reservation screening, $3 million USD damage protection, protection for your valuables and protection for parked cars and boats on your property.

Guest identity verification

Our community’s trust is rooted in knowing that both Hosts and guests are who they say they are. We’re expanding identity verification to all guests who book travel to Airbnb’s top 35 countries and regions – representing 90% of all reservations. We’ll expand identity verification worldwide in early 2023, covering 100% of our reservations.

We’ll continue to run background checks on all guests in the US before their first stay and check if all booking guests are on certain watchlists or sanctions lists.

As part of our expanded guest identity verification, we’ve also made some changes to Instant Book requirements. Learn more

Reservation screening technology

We’re launching proprietary reservation screening technology, which helps reduce the chance of disruptive parties and property damage, in the US and Canada. We tested reservation screening in Australia and found unauthorised parties dropped by an estimated 35% during the trial.

Our screening technology evaluates about 100 factors of a reservation and blocks certain bookings to help reduce the chance of disruptive parties and property damage. We plan to expand this to all reservations worldwide by early 2023.

More damage protection

For over a decade, Airbnb has offered industry-leading damage protection for our Hosts. Today, we’re adding these protections to AirCover for Hosts:

  • $3 million USD damage protection: We’re tripling damage protection from $1 million USD to $3 million USD, covering both your home and its contents.
  • Art and valuables protection: We protect a wider range of fine art, jewellery and collectibles, which may be repaired or replaced at appraised value if damaged.
  • Auto and boat protection: We provide damage protection for cars, boats and other watercraft that you park or store at your property.

The new protections are in addition to these features already included with AirCover for Hosts:

  • 24-hour safety line: If you ever feel unsafe, our app provides one-tap access to specially trained safety agents, day or night.
  • Pet damage protection: We pay for damage done by four-legged guests.
  • Deep cleaning: We reimburse for extra cleaning services required to remove stains and smoke odours.
  • Income loss protection: We reimburse you for lost income if you cancel confirmed Airbnb bookings due to guest damage.

Simpler reimbursement process

You told us the reimbursement process was too complicated. Based on your feedback, we’ve simplified our reimbursement process.

If a guest damages your place or belongings, you can visit our Resolution Centre to submit a reimbursement request in just a few steps and then easily track the process from submission through payout. Your request will first be sent to the guest. If the guest does not respond or pay within 24 hours, you’ll be able to involve Airbnb.

Superhosts (with listings outside of the State of Washington in the US) also get priority routing and faster reimbursements.

$1 million USD Host liability insurance

Host liability insurance, part of AirCover for Hosts, protects you in the rare event that a guest is hurt or their belongings are damaged or stolen while staying at your place. People who help you host, such as Co-Hosts and cleaners, are also included in this coverage.

Host liability insurance covers you if you’re found legally responsible for:

  • Bodily injury to a guest (or others)
  • Damage to or theft of property belonging to a guest (or others)
  • Damage caused by a guest (or others) to common areas, such as building foyers and nearby properties

If you need to file a claim, simply use our liability insurance intake form. We’ll send info you provide to our trusted third-party insurer, who will assign your claim to a representative. They’ll resolve your claim according to the terms of the insurance policy.

If you’re a Host of an Experience, you’re covered by our Experiences liability insurance.

AirCover for Hosts’ Host damage protection, Host liability insurance and Experiences liability insurance don’t cover Hosts who offer stays or Experiences in Japan, where Japan Host Insurance and Japan Experience Protection Insurance apply, or Hosts who offer stays through Airbnb Travel LLC. For Hosts who offered stays or Experiences in mainland China, the China Host Protection Plan applies. Keep in mind that all coverage limits are shown in USD.

Host liability insurance and Experiences liability insurance are underwritten by third-party insurers. If you’re hosting stays in the UK, the Host liability and Experience liability insurance policies are underwritten by Zurich Insurance Company Ltd and are arranged and concluded at no additional cost for UK Hosts by Airbnb UK Services Limited, an appointed representative of Aon UK Limited, who are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Aon’s FCA register number is 310451. You can check this by visiting the Financial Services Register or contacting the FCA on 0800 111 6768. The Host liability and Experiences liability policies within AirCover for Hosts are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. The remaining products and services are not regulated products arranged by Airbnb UK Services Limited. FPAFF609LC

Host damage protection isn’t insurance and isn’t related to Host liability insurance. For listings in Washington State, US, Airbnb’s contractual obligations under Host damage protection are covered by an insurance policy purchased by Airbnb. For Hosts whose country of residence or establishment is outside of Australia, these Host Damage Protection Terms apply. For Hosts whose country of residence or establishment is within Australia, Host damage protection is subject to the Host Damage Protection Terms for Australian Users.
