You might wonder why you’re asked to provide certain personal details as you create your listing. It’s to help us comply with a legal requirement called Know Your Customer (KYC).

What is KYC?

KYC is a regulatory requirement to help protect Airbnb’s community from fraud and to help prevent money laundering and terrorist financing. Companies that are licensed to process payments, like Airbnb’s payment subsidiaries, must have KYC processes. In other words, we’re required to know who’s accessing each Airbnb account and who’s getting paid.

What’s required?

You’ll need to provide these 4 pieces of information before you can publish your listing.

  • Legal name: You provided this when you created your Airbnb account.
  • Date of birth: You provided this when you created your Airbnb account.
  • Residential address: Provide your current address. If it’s different from your listing address, guests will not see it. Guests only see your listing address after their reservation is confirmed.
  • Are you hosting as a business? This typically means your business is registered with your state or government. If you’re a host in the EU, hosting as a business means that it’s your main source of income or you work for a company, like a boutique hotel or property management company.

How does Airbnb use and store this information?

Your information is handled according to our Privacy Policy.

What happens if I don’t provide these details?

This KYC information is required for you to get paid. You won’t be able to publish a listing on Airbnb until you provide these details.

What’s next?

We may ask for some additional information depending on where you’re located, such as proof of your legal name and date of birth on a government-issued ID.

If you host as a business, we’ll ask for your business details after you publish your listing. This may include your business tax ID, registration details and information about the owners.
