My husband and I live in the house with our two young children. Our home backs onto the Watercress Steam Railway Line - train enthusiasts will love hearing the train pass and seeing the steam... Four Marks & Medstead Watercress station is just a 10mins walk from our home where you can see steam trains passing. Jane Austen’s home in Chawton is 5mins drive away. We are located on the edge of the South Downs 30/40mins from larger towns (Farnham, Basingstoke, Southampton and Winchester).
“Having never stayed in someone's home before as we generally book a suite or annex we were uncertain but Lara and her family were welcoming and lovely. The room is spotless and comfy, a continental breakfast was laid out for us to choose from. We would love to stay there again if we are that way. Definitely reccomend these hosts and there home.”
Dairy Cottage was a former milking parlour. We stopped milking cows in 1992 and converted the building into a self catering holiday cottage. The cottage is situated between the Cathedral City of Winchester and the market towns of Alton and Petersfield. Nearby is the pretty town of Alresford where the River Arle flows into a lake constructed to provide fishing as well as a reservoir for the River Itchen navigation. There is a lovely short river walk here which we're happy to tell you about.
“Dairy Cottage is a lovely little place for anyone to stay in. Its's cosy and warm in the winter and cool and sunny in the summer. Plenty of room for all. Great little cupboard with jigsaws and games, large tv with Netflix. A beautiful bunch of tulips sat on the table in the lounge and fresh eggs, milk and a crusty loaf in the kitchen. Tea and coffee ready to be made by yourselves on arrival after a long or short journey. What more can I say. The hosts Catriona and her husband Malcolm are around if you need them. If you want to go walking, or visit local attractions or towns nearby this is the place to be. The Watercress Railway Line is a very short drive away or a good walk, well worth a visit. the trains go to Alresford platform 2 or to Alton platform 1. A great day out. Go on try it for yourselves, the whole experience Dairy Cottage and the Railway.”
The village of Lasham is nestled within Jane Austin’s County. This recently redecorated light and airy bedsit with its own private access resides within the heart of the village. The bedroom has a double bed for one or two occupants, a small kitchenette with tea and coffee making facilities, a fridge freezer and microwave, there Is also a private shower room. Near a friendly country pub with delicious freshly prepared food, fine wines and real ales, closed on Mondays.
“Once again a lovely peaceful stay which is perfect when working nights away. Has a lovely homely feel.”
