Places to stay in Atherfield
Light and airy room in a modern property only 2 minutes walk from the Isle of Wight coastal path and a quiet beach. The bedroom is simply decorated with two single beds and has a window with views out over the cliffs to the sea. I will be here to meet you and have plenty of friendly local knowledge to share. The location is ideal for walkers & cyclists, plus the surf beach at Compton is only 10 minutes by car or bus.
Outside, there's a sunny south facing patio with chairs and a table. Indoor shared spaces are a modern, clean bathroom with power shower over the bath, and a kitchen. The kitchen has tea, coffee & breakfast facilities and use of the fridge, microwave or hob.
Brighstone (5 minutes up the road) is a small village with two shops, a pub & a church. There are lots of walks both coastal and inland over the downs / forest to be enjoyed. There are also plenty of cycle routes where you an explore a little further. I'm a keen cyclist so happy to advise and happy for bikes to be stored indoors. I can also point you in the direction of the best local pubs & cafes.
• Highly recommend Daniel’s seaview cottage. Incredibly warm and welcoming and overall, a relaxed, great host. Perfect location for coastal path with quiet, scenic walks in every direction.

• Daniel’s place is a great retreat for those that wish to be by the sea and especially if you enjoy hiking. There’s lovely coastal walks right out the front. It is a little bit out of the way location wise, but some may enjoy it for that reason. Dan was very friendly and accomodating. I did a 5 hour walk along the coast to The Needles which I highly recommend.

Little Wing is a beautifully converted studio apartment located in stunning countryside on the Isle of Wight. The open plan contemporary design is perfect for couples looking for a quiet retreat. Chillerton is ideally located to explore the whole island; stunning walks across fields and farms to The Chequers Pub (45 mins) in Rookley and the Crown in Shorwell (1 hour) mountain bike trails over The Downs or the cycle track and only a short drive from a choice of our best beaches.
Ella, Toby and wilf welcome you to Isle of Wight and to 'Little Wing' Chillerton is a small village and although it hasn't got its own pub it's community come together regularly for local events such as ale nights, folk nights, reading room talks and evenings, Saturday market, the annual Village show and monthly quiz evenings. Newport, the main county town, with local as well as well known shops and supermarkets is a 6 minute drive away. Fox and Hounds Cottage was once a smallholding providing provisions for the village. Cows were milked in The Cow Shed (now Little Wing) by Toby's great uncle Harold who lived next door at Glencoe Cottages and our dear neighbour Hilton Taylor who only recently passed away. We have tried to preserve the building as it was intended, a working shed in a working community and looking at old photographs you can see nothing much has changed from the outside. Inside we hope we have provided a little bit of unexpected contemporary comfort and character and a wonderful base for you to explore our beautiful island Our families have lived and worked on the island for generations and we will always be excited to share our knowledge of quiet unspoiled beaches and beauty spots, lively pubs, local attractions and events, music and live entertainment or exquisite places to eat.
Our Village is set in an AONB. and is a rural farming community, Barn Owls quarter the field opposite at dusk and country foxes and Badgers are often out at night.

• Victoria's place is lovely! Everything has been very thoughtfully done. Who knew you could fit so much in such a small space and still have room left! The little touches really made a difference and just made it feel that little bit more luxurious. We were lucky with the weather and had gorgeous views over the meadow. It was cold when we stayed but the heater warmed us up in no time, as did the hot choc that was provided! Thanks for such a fab weekend escape!

The Coastguard Cottages are perched on the clifftop at Atherfleld on the south-west coast of the Isle of Wight. There are stunning and uninterrupted views across the English Channel and along the coast to the west. Sunsets are spectacular on good days. The cottage is close to excellent family beaches at Brook and Compton, and is situated in a beautiful, unspoilt area of the Isle of Wight which never feels crowded even in the height of summer. There are stunning clifftop walks from the garden.
It’s unusual to be able to feel so much a part of the elements and yet so enclosed in the cottage. The whole of the cottage and walled garden outside is available for our guests' use. You enter the cottage via a small entrance hall/lobby off which is a downstairs loo. You walk through to the kitchen/diner with log burner and electric cooker and hob. The kitchen comes equipped with a dishwasher, washing machine, microwave and coffee machine. In the sitting room is a cosy open fire, a TV and the cottage has wifi. The conservatory provides extra bright living space even on cloudier days. First floor: There are two double bedrooms, one with a queen-size bed and one with a king-size bed, and the bathroom has a roll-top bath and an electric, over-bath shower. Second floor: The third bedroom, with a double bed, is accessed from a staircase off bedroom 1. Heating: The central heating works off the woodburning stove which keeps the cottage toasty in the winter months. If you want instant heat there are electric radiators available. In the summer hot water is supplied via an emersion heater. Garden: Being south-facing the garden is a sun-trap. There is garden furniture and a gas-fired barbecue for guests to enjoy, together with a fire-pit for summer evenings. If you walk to the end of the garden, through the gate you can access the cliff-top path. There are no roads between the cottage and the cliff. Please be aware that the cliff can be unstable, so keep to paths and take care with children. Parking: As the cottage is away from it all, a car is essential. There is a parking bay for all the cottages at the end of the driveway. You will not be able to park right next to the cottage. The area: The Isle of Wight is known for its natural beauty and much of the south and west Wight belongs to the National Trust and is completely unspoilt. Walking, cycling, horseriding and of course sailing, surfing and watersports are all within easy reach. Culture lovers must not miss a visit to Queen Victoria's Island home, Osborne House. Carisbrooke Castle, where Charles I was imprisoned, makes a great day out, where donkeys still work the treadmill bringing water up from the well. There are many tourist attractions such as Chessell Pottery, The Garlic Farm, Blackgang Chine, Tapnell Farm, Ventnor Botanical Gardens, etc. During the summer season there are many local festivals and events on the Island, from world famous yachting regatta Cowes Week, to Walk the Wight, Isle of Wight Festival and many carnivals. For food lovers there are five Isle of Wight entries in the Michelin Guide as well as many other enticing places to eat and drink, many with sea views.

Little Granville is a cosy cottage in the countryside, about ten minutes from the sandy beaches of Ventnor, and on the edge of Whitwell village. It sleeps two and is comfortably and fully equipped to provide everything you need for a peaceful, relaxing stay on the beautiful Isle of Wight. Centrally heated and double-glazed, with far-reaching views. BOOKINGS ARE TAKEN ON A WEEKLY BASIS, FRIDAY TO FRIDAY.
A car is necessary, as the nearest bus service is infrequent and over a mile away. However, we are in an ideal spot for those who enjoy walking and cycling, with paths and tracks within easy reach. The many and varied attractons on the Island appeal to different tastes, and they are all within a 20-30minutes drive. There is a large selection of pubs and restaurants in the area and a plentifully stocked supermarket in Niton village, a couple of miles away.
Surrounded by fields, with beautiful views across the downs, we try to make our garden a home for bees, insects and wildlife. Many varieties of birds can be seen from the cottage, including "Fred", the pheasant, who appears regularly to be fed.
• Had the most amazing stay at Little Granville . The cottage is fully equipped and has everything I needed to cook and have a pleasant stay. The cottage is surrounded by beautiful fields and meadows but it's also very close to many attractions like Ventnor Botanic Gardens or Blackgang Chine. Even the ferry in Cowes was only 30-40 mins drive. Shirley is a wonderful host who greeted us with little treats : wine for me and biscuits for my son . We really enjoyed having all the home comforts and having a wonderful holiday.

• This review may be a little long, but if you don’t read anything else read this. This place is beautiful, and hosts are incredible. Very good value, and an unforgettable cozy couple of days. For those who like details : My boyfriend and I stayed here during the Valentines Weekend, which I had booked 3 months in advance. From day one, the communication was so efficient, informative, and so kind. When we arrived it was in the midst of Storm Dennis, though cold and wet upon our arrival, checking-in was so easy, and we were welcomed by a warm, atmospheric, cozy scene. They also provided us with a pint milk, fresh eggs from their hens and loaf of bread. The bed was super comfortable, and for extra comfort we were also provided with two hot water bottles!! I’m yet to experience such a kind and welcoming experience on Airbnb. The entire cabin was spotless, beautifully decorated with meaningful touches. The shower pressure was beautiful, one of my favourite parts. As it was stormy, we spent a majority of the time taking in the cabin, and really feeling as though we were at home. During the day you can see the hens, was just a picturesque. Just so perfectly peaceful. It’s in middle of fields, farms and grassland, so if you are looking country get away this is the place. Defiantly recommending the place to all my girlfriends, and I, myself as well as my partner are eager to return to Lodge during the summer. If you are visiting the IoW - this is the No 1 spot. Thank you so much Gemma & James for being such perfect hosts.

• A beautiful setting in the countryside with chickens roaming freely in the garden. A thoughtful welcome pack of fresh eggs, a load of bread, milk, tea, coffee and sugar to begin our stay. Willowbrooke lodge is a cost home-from-home with little extras provided by the owners, mood lighting inside and outside. Hot water bottles. Everything here was spotlessly clean and in keeping with a country lodge. Would highly recommend

• This lodge is a wonderful little getaway from the hustle and bustle. Really appreciated the small touches and my partner really liked the decor. Fantastic value for money and impeccably clean.

• Chale Farm is gorgeous. Steve & Charlotte are great super hosts. The rooms are nice and big, clean & extremely comfy. Views were amazing & we didn’t want to leave. Would 100% recommend you stay here. We can’t wait to re visit!

• Amazing views from the tennyson view room, I actually think generally speaking this location is one of the best on the island, great views, peaceful, located next to a lovely Inn (White mouse) very nice food, also about a 15 minute drive from the needles attraction, having roamed the majority of the island during the few days we were there I have to say the Chale side of the island is very very good, highly recommend this accommodation, loads of functionality and nice small touches.

Paul2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
• Perfectly clean + great views from room. Instant communication from hosts. If you’re interested in cycling IoW Randonee route right outside, Steve and Charlotte kindly allowed us to store a bike in the gym + there’s a watt bike! Pub opposite so you don’t always have to drive for food.

Charlie2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
• Amazing place to stay. The local tips were super useful and the view from the room was awesome.

• Superb accommodation in an amazing location, with stunning coastal views and homely pub across the road.

• What a lovely place to stay. We were staying over for a couple of days for an event on the Isle of Wight and Chale Bay Farm was recommended to us. Steve's communication in advance was fantastic, and particularly helpful given there was a storm which delayed us getting over there. The accommodation is lovely. Well thought out and sparkly clean. I stayed in the smaller of the rooms which was very nice indeed, and two friends stayed in a double room which had a fantastic kitchen area and sitting area. Highly recommended. Go visit!

• We had a lovely stay in the chalet which has an ample car parking area which is gated. The chalet was nice and clean with a good kitchen area as we like to be able to cook for ourselves sometimes while on holiday.

Joyce2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
• Beautiful hide away. Cosy accommodation. Jon very helpful when couldn’t get tv to work. Only very small negative was that knives were blunt so very hard chopping parsnips safely.

Sue2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
• Amazing location, wonderful wild life, red squirells in the garden, badgers coming right to the fron door (they love peanuts😀). Accomodation was clean and cosy. The owners put the heating on for us prior arrival which was a lovely touch. Can't say bad word about our accomodation❤️❤️❤️

Helena2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
• The Squirrels Nook was clean, comfortable and very cosy. Heating available if required in kitchen /living room area and bedroom. The kitchen is great for cooking meals and has all utensils you would need. The comfy sofa means that you can sit and watch television when not out exploring. The bedroom has a very comfortable double bed and it is really nice that it is separate from the kitchen/sofa area. The bathroom, has shower, toilet and sink, has a wet room layout. It is a real bonus having parking associated to the chalet. Communication with Sean was fantastic and so helpful. the views from the Squirrels Nook across the gardens are lovely and on a warm September evening really lovely to sit outside and take in the views and relax. Excellent position for walks to local visitor attractions, local pubs and village. We had a wonderful stay , will definitely stay again

Vanessa2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
• As a base this chalet is suitable although don't expect 5 star facilities. The area makes up for a lot of the holiday as it is spectacular. Dont forget to look out for the Red Squirrels that live in the garden.

John2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
• Lovely location, clean, fresh flowers thoughtful touch and good parking area. Good communication with hosts, grocery shop and pubs within walking distance. The water from the shower drained very slowly however neighbours advised us they were experiencing similar situation with their showers. We had a great stay and would thoroughly recommend this accommodation for a quiet relaxing break on the island.

Dawn2019-08-27T00:00:00Z
• A clean and well appointed chalet , within easy walking distance of the village centre where you will find a well stocked shop and a couple of places to eat. Clean and neat layout of space , the chalet comes with all you need for a break away.

• Lovely quiet location. The cabin was very clean, we had no need to contact Jon throughout our stay as there were no issues and the details sent before we arrived were all we required. I would stay here again. Also, saw a red squirrel a couple of times!

Situated in the beautiful village of Brighstone on the Isle of Wight, our cosy B&B offers a large private room with a spacious toilet/wet room. Just a short walk from breath taking views and beaches, with stunning hills and countryside on your doorstep. The local pub (The Three Bishops) offers hot food and drink all year round, and we have our own village museum, shops and library.
• Really enjoyed our stay. It was just what we needed. Will be sure to take a bright torch if there is a next time. Not many street lights in Brighstone.

Nadia2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
• A great place to stay having walked the Coastal Path from Sandown. We arrived wet and cold, but soon warmed up and spent a very comfortable evening here. Local pub was great for a meal too. Would stay again.

Jill2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
• Excellent stay, ideal for our one night stay as we were walking the coastal paths. Would have been happy to stay longer. Very large room in quiet village. Pub serving good home cooked meals round the corner

Sue2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
• Good B&B in Brighstone village near coastal path

Susan2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
• This was by far our best B&B experience. The room was comfortable and easy to relax in, the wet room was ideal and the breakfast was great. Diane was friendly and helpful and the location in the village couldn’t have been better. Will definitely be making a return visit.

Linda2019-08-22T00:00:00Z
• A spacious room with view of the garden

Vicki2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
• A great space in a beautiful village with good local amenities of village shops and pub nearby. Diane was friendly and helpful with lots of tips and local info. A little more difficult to get to and on to attractions if using public transport.

Thomasina2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
• Diane's facilities are perfect for anyone touring or visiting the West Wight. The living space is open plan with a separate (walk-in, disabled-friendly) bathroom. You enjoy the freedom to come and go as you please as the facility is an independent annex from the main house. Diane provided a very healthy and generous breakfast in the morning at a time of your suiting. This is my 2nd visit and it was just as good as the first. Highly recommended !!

Short drive to some of the islands wonderful beaches. With a comfortable master bedroom with a double bed and twin beds in the second bedroom, Fircones is ideal for families, cyclists, walkers and anyone who enjoys escaping to the country. Fircones is situated on the south side of the Island surrounded by countryside walks in all directions. Join the Chale Trail from here which takes you on a six mile walk around the parish of Chale taking in downland and cliff tops. Why not take a break about half way round at The White Mouse Inn for refreshments and maybe lunch. A short drive will take you into Ventnor with its shops and eateries by the sea. There is a Country Market on Saturday mornings selling local produce and crafts. It is also an ideal spot for exploring the Island on a bike both on the roads and cycle tracks. A short walk from Fircones is Chale Green Store where you can get a good range of provisions and they also have a cafe which serves light refreshments.
• Expect a warm and friendly welcome to a lovely cottage in a very convenient location on the island. The accommodation is spacious, comfortable and warm, with extremely comfortable beds and nice touches, like biscuits and milk on arrival. We loved our stay and hope to return in the near future.

• A great place to stay on the IOW. Wonderful hosts. Accurate listing. Loved it. We stayed for 3 weeks!

Peter2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
• The accommodation is lovely - wonderfully clean, spacious and well equipped - 2 generous bedrooms (very comfy beds), nicely kitted out kitchen area also and comfortable sofas in the lounge. The biccies and tea were a really nice touch and we appreciated the folderful of local information also. Our best ever Air BnB experience and should we return to the IoW, we will definitely look to stay with Jenny and Peter again.

Andrew2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
• Jenny was a fantastic host, always available to help us with anything. This is a great bolt-hole tucked away in a rural village with amazing views and very peaceful. The accommodation had everything we needed and was very comfortable and clean. There were some nice touches with milk, tea, coffee and biscuits, as well as shower essentials.

Susannah2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
• This was our second visit to Fircones and it was as wonderful as the last. Such an idyllic setting, the views through the back garden are wonderful. Jenny and Pete are wonderful hosts and the dogs kept our girls entertained for hours. Lovely and clean, we ate here more on this visit and had everything we needed. Fircones will always be our Base when we visit the Isle of Wight. Thank you again Jenny and Pete.

Natalie2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
• Pete and Jenny were excellent hosts right from the moment we booked they provided excellent clear information. When we arrived they showed us around the house and the beautiful garden. They left tourist information, tea coffee and biscuits aswell all you would need to make your stay comfortable (e.g. toiletries, linen and kitchen utensils). Dont be too alarmed by the tiny barking dogs on arrival, once they are used to you they are quiet and well behaved. They are also next door and the accommodation is completely private so you are very safe if scared of dogs! All in all a great accommodation and we will definitely return next time we are on the island. Thanks guys!

Colin2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
• Jenny and Peter were perfect hosts. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect as I have not used air bb before. The place was large enough to comfortably fit our family of four. They were helpful with advice about local knowledge. They had thoughtfully provided a pint of milk and tea and coffee provisions with biscuits. The location is so peaceful with a nice walk down to the village. The island is small so everything was within easy driving distance.

Deepak2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
• I cannot speak highly enough of Jenny, Pete and their property. We had a lovely stay and everything was perfect. The property itself suited my elderly mother very well and its location is wonderful. Everything is kept so clean and it was comforting to know that such lovely people were close by if we needed them. Without doubt, we will return and can thoroughly recommend a stay here.

• Sharon has been a wonderful host during our trip and her husband was a very helpful man who offered to drive us to the shop on bad weather and was always around to help with anything we needed. Sharon is a great massage therapist who made me feel like a new born after the treatment. We are hoping to come back in the summer to spend more on the fields and of course, be around the 2 beautiful cheeky ponies they have.

• We stayed at Sharon’s cottage over the Christmas period with our dog and had a fabulous time. They are situated in a fairly rural setting and high up on a hill. Sharon is very knowledgeable and supplied us with plenty of suggestions on where to walk and find the best places to eat. The cottage is just as described, lovely and warm, fully kitted out with very comfortable furniture and fittings. Great wi-fi connection and a lovely welcome pack to settle us in.

Janet2019-12-31T00:00:00Z

• This is the most wonderful place. Lucy Gavin and Boe are so lovely and kind, I felt relaxed from the moment I arrived. I haven’t stayed anywhere quite like this before. I stumbled upon it, I was just looking for an affordable place for my sister and I to spend the weekend near St. Catherine’s which we both love. I wasn’t prepared for how this little place made me feel. It’s just magical, even in the cold blustering wind. I lay in bed in the morning looking out to sea at the boats pondering on the lives within, watched a fat robin balance on a tiny branch.... you get the picture. It made me stop, breathe, take time to just look around me. If you need a little break from everything, whatever the season or the weather, this is it.

• A fantastic place to stay, very clean and quiet with great views. Russell is very quick to respond and was very helpful with directions would definitly recommend staying here

Sophie2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
• Well not much I can say apart from fantastic and would highly highly recommend the sticky mattress! Firstly the weather was unreal (not that Russell had much to do with it unless he’s magic). 24+ degrees constantly all week for the scooter rally, just perfect. The location is wonderful, so quiet and peaceful, it allowed the doors and windows to be left open at night whilst we slept without even a car driving past. The place is set back in the hills near Niton - It’s a little sun trap with beautiful garden to look onto. Even the secluded carpark was roasting in the sun! I would say that there is “Norris’s Convenient Stores” a five minute walk away for all the essentials and more which is quite a nice walk in the morning believe it or not... The accommodation itself was spotless with a clean fresh smell in the air (trust me I’ve stayed in some places that just with a wiff of fabreze and think the place is clean). A great touch was the bedding and towels, really great touch. Overall I can’t recommend enough to come and visit!!

• Lovely place, exceptionally clean. Really enjoyed sitting out in the morning and evening watching for squirrels and badgers. Ideally located with 2 great local pubs and a little supermarket and easy access to the rest of the island for sightseeing. Would definitely stay again

• Set in beautiful surroundings. Great accommodation.

Debora2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
• Sticky wicket is the perfect place for couples who want a peaceful break away from it all. It is clean and comfortable and the shower is hot and powerful. We loved seeing the Badgers come past every night and the Red Squirrels in the gardens. It is in a gated community so very safe. The chalets are very close together but that didn't bother us as everyone is very friendly. There is no WiFi but the phone signal is fine for making calls. Niton and the surrounding countryside is beautiful with plenty of footpaths but just be aware it is quite hilly. The local Buddle inn does excellent food and is a great place to sit on a warm evening looking out to sea. Russell is an excellent host,we were able to check in early and he was always available to answer any questions we had. We would love to return one day.

Kay2019-07-15T00:00:00Z
• Russell's place is amazing, clean, cosy and private but close to the shop and local inns and cafes. Had a great time there and was the perfect getaway from the busy London

• Lovely quiet place in a private gated area.

Dawn2019-05-30T00:00:00Z
• Perfect place for a couple, in a gated community, very peaceful and safe (you get to see red squirrels running around). The perfect place to set base for cyclists, trekkers, surfers, etc. Local shops and restaurants at walking distance. Clean and comfortable.

Lovely cosy 2 bedroom stone cottage situated in the heart of Whitwell village which has preserved much of the original village charm and still retains its local pub, the White Horse Inn reputedly the oldest pub on the Isle of Wight which is only 5 minutes’ walk from the cottage and serves local ales and food all day. This pretty cottage provides ideal holiday accommodation for couples or small families alike. Benefits include off road parking and a spacious conservatory with far reaching views over the countryside, leading to an enclosed rear garden, ideal for relaxing at the end of a busy day. Niton village is nearby and has a variety of local shops including convenience store, post office with tea rooms and bar, supermarket, chemist and book shop/general store. The White Lion is a traditional English pub and offers a large selection of homemade dishes. This holiday home provides an ideal base for those wishing to explore the surrounding countryside and there are many beautiful walks to be enjoyed right from the cottage itself, and good beaches are within a short drive. Close by is St. Catherine's lighthouse and Niton Undercliff which is officially recognised as an area of outstanding natural beauty. The nearby Buddle Inn has splendid views overlooking the sea and opposite are steps leading to Castle Cove with its history of smugglers and ghosts. For those with children, Blackgang Chine Theme Park is well worth a visit. The Victorian resort town of Ventnor is a short drive away with its crescent shaped beach and variety of cafes and restaurants. DOGS PERMITTED AT AN ADDITIONAL CHARGE OF GBP35.00 PER DOG PER WEEK - MAX 2
Ventnor Town Ventnor on the South of the Isle of Wight is a traditional seaside resort, and one of Britain's most famous Victorian health resorts due to its unique micro-climate. The town lies beneath St Boniface Down (the highest point on the Isle of Wight) and for the most part is built on the side of a steep hill leading down to the seafront and beach. The beach huts that line the back of the beach are converted Victorian “bathing machines” and are available to hire, along with deckchairs. Ventnor has plenty of things to do both in the town and nearby. Ventnor Beach is a great suntrap, and the sand and shingle beach is great for sunbathing and family swimming. Ventnor Harbour and the bandstand development are very prominent on the seafront and offer a great viewing platform to look out to sea, and the Ventnor Haven Fishery sells the best in local crab and lobster. On the main promenade there is a traditional arcade with a range of amusements, then opposite the harbour the spectacular Cascade Gardens run down the side of the cliff where the main road zig-zags its way back up into the main town. Further along there is a children’s paddling pool which features a giant map of the Isle of Wight, and from here there are great walks to Wheelers Bay and Bonchurch along the Sea Wall. A short distance from the seafront at the Western side of the town you can stroll through the beautiful Victorian Ventnor Park, which won the "Park of the Year Award" at the South and South East England in Bloom awards in 2014. This leads onto the famous Ventnor Botanic Gardens at the Undercliff, where the town’s micro-climate can be truly appreciated in a 22 acre sub-tropical paradise. A short walk from here and you will discover one of the Isle of Wight’s best kept secrets, Steephill Cove, which is one of the most relaxing beaches on the Island. Along Ventnor esplanade there are several pubs, cafes and restaurants offering a variety of food and refreshments, with a number of alternative places to eat further into town. With the local fisheries there are some great fish and seafood options available at many of the eateries, and some of the local hotels are highly recommended for their fine dining experiences. In recent years Ventnor has become the regular host of several big arts and culture events, with the Isle of Arts Festival and Ventnor Fringe. It is also one of the Isle of Wight’s main carnival towns, with daytime and illuminated processions taking place during the summer months. A short drive along the coast is one of the Isle of Wight’s best known attractions, Blackgang Chine, and regular events are hosted here to entertain all the family. You can enjoy the spectacular scenery from the top deck of one of the regular buses that serves the town. Catch a bus northwards to Shanklin, Sandown & Ryde, or travel across the Island to Godshill, Newport or Cowes.
• A beautiful cottage in a stunning location. Great for a quiet stay in the country with lovely walks near by. The house was well furnished with modern appliances and cutlery. Would definitely go back.

• My wife and I (and our two dogs) had a lovely stay in one of the two Shepherds hut on this property. Located close to Newport, the location was great and the instructions for finding it were perfect. The electric hot tub was nice and the bed was very comfy. Inside the hut was everything you could need and some local supplies, which were delicious. Perfect for a couple of days to get away from everything!

From marshmallows in a jar to use on the fire pit, eggs for breakfast, fresh milk, coffee machine and much more! We made use of cooking our tea on the bbq provided and relaxing in the hot tub. Easy to find using satnav, in a small village. Lovely pub we walked to about 5 minutes down the road. Host was very good at responding and even booked our ferry over to the Isle of Wight from Southampton (and back) for us. Amazing!! Thank you for having us stay at Dreams and Retreats, we had a lovely stay! Would definitely recommend!

• Shirley's home was a wonderful place to relax after a long days hike. It's very peaceful and the room has a wonderful view when you wake up. So much thought has been given to detail. I truly enjoyed the talk I had with my hosts and the delicious breakfast in the morning. The village itself is very charming too. I would have loved to stay longer. Thank you very much Shirley.

• A clean and comfortable space, separated from the rest of the home, overlooking their immaculately kept garden. Shirley and Pete are lovely people, a pleasure to get to know in the brief time we spent there. Finally I should mention the excellent breakfast we were served, you will not leave hungry!

Steve2019-09-10T00:00:00Z
• The room was wonderful, clean, spacious and with a fantastic view complimented by the balcony. The private access made coming and going very easy and there was plenty of parking available. Our hosts Shirley and Pete were very welcoming and easy to get along with and the breakfast quality was very good with a lovely range of foods to have. We would not hesitate to stay here again if we return to the island.

• Lovely B&B. Very comfortable bed, really welcoming hosts, delicious breakfasts, and peaceful location. You have a private entrance to the self-contained accommodation. There's also a balcony overlooking the lovely garden (shame we couldn't use this more due to the weather!). We'd definitely stay again next time we visit West Wight. Thoroughly recommended. This first floor room shares a bathroom with one other bedroom (not always booked). In lovely village with local shop, pub and church. Ideal for walking, mountain biking direct from the door, and star gazing. 5 miles SW of Newport, and short distance from unspoilt beaches. Light breakfast, tea, coffee, cereal and toast included. Not suitable for visitors relying on public transport as very limited bus service with poor connections to the rest of the Isle of Wight
The house is located in a beautiful village 5 miles SW of Newport, and close to unspoilt beaches. Ideal for walking and cycling direct from the door, and star gazing at night. There is a pub and small shop in the village.
• Alun and Jane are super hosts indeed. Jane made sure we had a wonderful breakfast to kickstart our day. She made sure we had all we needed. I was working nights and they made sure the place was quiet during the day for me to rest well. I definitely will visit again when next I’m in Isle of Wight. Again thank you Alun and Jane.

• Alun and Jane were very friendly, warm and welcoming. They made us feel very comfortable in their home. Very good value for money to have light breakfast included. The room was nice, very clean and the bed was comfortable. Jane was very happy to help with extra advice. We thoroughly recommend staying here if you get the chance but definitely have a car.

• Alun and Jane were incredible hosts for us during the Isle of Wight festival. We arrived late and they were up to greet us, they were very hospitable and even allowed us to chill in the conservatory and lounge when we arrived, which we did. Although for two people, there were three of us and Alun and Jane were very accommodating and allowed us all to stay and even made all three of us breakfast, just above and beyond your average host. Their house is wonderful, and provides a quintessential view of the country side. Would highly recommend if staying for the weekend. Vanessa, Maddy and Holly

• We had pleasant stay in Alun's and Jane place. Both are very supportive and helped us in each and everything they could. We liked their place and would like to stay their property everytime we go to Isle of Wight. Thank you Alun and Jane.

I had a great night's sleep and enjoyed breakfast in the conservatory. Highly recommended for trips to that part of the Island. Only wish I could have stayed longer.

This delightful traditional cottage was recently refurbished to a very high standard, whilst maintaining the original charm of the cottage by retaining a great deal of the original features of the cottage, such as the exposed stone walls, flagstone floors and fireplace. The cottage is tucked away on a quiet lane, a short walk from the centre of the village of Godshill, which is often referred to as one of the prettiest villages in the UK. Godshill is famous for its abundance of picturesque thatched cottages, tea rooms, gift shops and of course the model village. In addition, there are a number of pubs and restaurants to choose from, should you wish to dine out. The area is surrounded by unspoilt countryside with several public footpaths and cycle routes heading off in different directions, some of which will take you all the way to the nearby coastal towns of Shanklin and Ventnor. Both of which have their own traditional seaside town appeals and have a variety of independent shops and restaurants, as well as large beaches and promenades. The cottage sleeps up to 4/5 people, and has 3 bedrooms, offering a flexible sleeping arrangement for families or groups of friends. On the ground floor, there is a spacious twin room, and on the first floor you’ll find the master double bedroom and an additional single room, along with a modern bathroom. The inviting lounge has a decorative fireplace, exposed beams and stonework. The kitchen diner is fully equipped with a modern kitchen and appliances including an electric oven & hob, Fridge-freezer, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. There is plenty of room for the whole family to dine together. Just off the utility area you will find the downstairs modern shower room. Exiting from the dining area via patio doors will lead you to a covered outside terrace, ideal for an evening drink outside, whilst remaining protected from the elements. A few steps up from the terrace will lead you to the delightful garden and patio area, which adjoins the owners chalet / office whilst maintaining complete privacy for guests. The garden is enclosed and backs onto a wooded area and provides a very peaceful setting for relaxing or dining outside. There is ample parking on the gravel driveway next to the cottage.

The cabin is a perfect place to unwind and relax, with a good sized private country garden to chill out in and a cosy log burner for the colder months. It’s ideal for couples, or couples with a young child, I also have a lovely bell tent, for the summer months, that I will pop up in the garden for other group members, children love it! If you’re travelling with infants and/or young children the nightly fee will be: infants under 1 - free, others £10. This is payable on arrival.
VHut is a lovely log cabin, it has a log burner for chilly days/nights. A sun/dining room and private garden, with plenty of space and a Bell tent available for extra guests or older children.
Atherfield is a lovely peaceful place to live and visit. We are between 2 villages, Shorwell and Chale, both of which have a very nice pubs with lovely gardens. There is a fantastic network of cycle and footpaths. My favourite Compton beach is less than 10 minutes away. The West Wight is in my opinion the most beautiful side of the Island and I’m sure you will love it as much as I do. Whether travelling as a couple, with friends, on your own or as a family, the Island has all the ingredients for a memorable holiday or short break. Atherfield is in a dark skies area so is perfect for astronomers.
• Wonderful stay with very available and hospitable hosts, fully recommend. a special place at any time of the year. Magic.

• We stayed at V-Hut for the Christmas week. We absolutely loved our stay there. It has a very friendly feel in the hut and it was cosy and comfortable. Paige and Kingsley, our hosts, were friendly, relaxed and really helpful with anything we needed and any queries whilst giving us total privacy. It was a great place to bring the dogs as there is a good space inside the front door, with lino, to dry them off and sort them out after walks before taking them into the main space. There were plenty of logs for the wood burner and the hut warmed up nicely once the burner was going. It was a great base for exploring the island and we loved the fact that it was away from the towns and villages as it was really quiet and relaxed. We did some great walks and found lovely pubs and cafes. All in all a great week.

• Debbie was a fantastic host, nothing was too much for her, had the fire going for us when we arrived (late due to the ferry!) V hut was spotless and we had lovely breakfasts, overlooking the private garden in the morning sun. The perfect getaway :) our pooch loved it and the dog treats too!

Hannah2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
• This was the perfect break away for me. After a very hectic work period with my business, having three days of peace, quiet and lovely surroundings in the V-Hut was the best medicine I could have ordered. Debbie showed us the basics when we arrived and afterwards left us to enjoy the place. We were lucky to have dry, warm weather for September and on the night of the full moon, the sky was clear and we sat out in the garden for hours just listening to the quiet. The V-Hut itself was a calm, relaxing place. The decore all very airy and soothing with natural colours and the occasional spark of turquoise blue. Despite having a TV and DVD available, we preferred a bit of music on the radio and a good book in the evenings. The kitchen is minimal for cooking - a microwave/oven for heating up any food. But the breakfast selection provided more than made up for this, with good cereals, bread and jams, fresh fruit, juice. This was our first visit to the Isle of Wight so we spent our daytimes driving & exploring the island and in the end I feel we were lucky to have chosen the location we were in - so close to the southern coast and areas of outstanding beauty. Sunsets were spectacular. I highly recommend Debbie's V-Hut for couples who want to get away, relax, enjoy the natural surroundings and find some quiet, personal time.

Linda2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
• I can’t fault anything at all. From the lovely cabin, adorable finishing touches to the decor, fresh bread, fruit and orange juice for brekkie to Debbie’s communication. Everything was just wonderful. If you are looking for peace and quiet on a beautiful island, then the V-hut is the place. Very comfortable, I slept so well. A car is pretty much essential due to its location, but we managed to explore so much of the island from here. Check out the stunning scenery along Military Road. Debbie was away this weekend but emailed to check everything was perfect and her daughter, Lydia, plus the dogs gave us a warm welcome. Anyone staying here will feel right at home. Thank you Debbie and Lydia. My 14 year old son and I absolutely loved it 💚

• What a perfect little place to stay while visiting our favourite island ! We had our own garden , along with apple trees to help ourself . Debbie left lots of goodies for breakfast including yogurts , fresh berries , marmalade , jam , milk , orange juice , bread, granola, cornflakes , porridge . Such a selection :) On arrival we had Buck’s Fizz , choccies and dog treats :) which we enjoyed ! Such a friendly welcoming and was happy to help with anything. Lovely and clean and very comfortable, slept very well ! Very peaceful place and not far from the beaches . Perfect location for a getaway. Thank you !! X

• A lovely little property with its own private garden. It is well situated on the southwest coast of the Isle of Wight with networks of paths all around. The village of Shorwell has a brilliant dog friendly pub and a small convenience store. Breakfast was included plus some lovely welcoming touches.

• This was our second visit and it didn't disappoint. Beautiful peaceful location. Debbie provided lots of unexpected extra touches that made the cabin very welcoming.

Sea views, beautiful beaches, pine forest full of red squirrels and country walks with stunning views in a quiet location. Quaint village with a pub, a museum, a library with a thatched roof, three shops and an 800 year old church. Brighstone is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There is a No Smoking policy within Snowdrop Cottage.
We are living in a very special area where there are low levels of light pollution. Snowdrop Cottage is set in an area of outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). It is a great place to view the thousands of stars revealed in Dark Skies.
Brighstone is situated on the South West coast of the Isle of Wight and about half way along the coastal route between Ventnor and Freshwater. It is a pretty village with an old church, traditional farmhouses and thatched cottages built from local "clunch" stone. At the village centre stands the iconic ‘North Street’, a row of attractive traditional cottages owned by the National Trust which now house Brighstone Library and a small Village Museum. Brighstone is a lively and interesting place to visit with shops and eating places, free parking and public toilets.
• The day we travelled over to IOW was the day Storm Dennis hit, so travelling was proving difficult, Jane was brilliant and contacted us on the day to see if we were ok. On arrival we had a very warm welcome and Jane had not only made us a chocolate cake but also some homemade soup, which was so kind and certainly well received on such an awful day, both were delicious. The accommodation was perfect for us, the location was great, the layout really suited us and our dog, the place was well equipped and everything we needed was there, even the torches as it is very dark outside at night. The accommodation was very clean, warm and comfortable, which was exactly what we needed on a wet and windy weekend. Thank you for allowing us to stay it was a great place and a great weekend, sorry about all the wet footprints we left behind. We would definitely stay here again if we return to the island.

• A very clean, cosy and homely space, with lots of thoughtful touches (books, games, spare toiletries), and a lot of care has gone into making this such a warm and welcoming place. Jane was exceptionally hospitable and welcoming. Situated in a lovely village, very peaceful and relaxing.

• An excellent place to stay: the view is lovely, Jane is very friendly and helpful, and went over and above with extra touches including baking us a cake, providing a selection of local produce and making sure there was a small box of toys for our little girl. The cottage is clean, warm and extremely well-equipped; we cooked every day and found everything we needed. Great location for exploring the island; we highly recommend staying here.

• Jane is a wonderful host and the cottage is in a beautiful location. Everything was perfect, especially the yummy Victoria Cake made freshly for us as we arrived!

Val2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
• The cottage is in a great location, walking distance from the coast. Going around the rooms you can tell that a lot of attention has been put in every single detail and it's an absolute joy to stay. Jane is a great host and she made us feel welcome in every moment of our holiday and at every opportunity she made sure we had everything we need. I wouldn't hesitate a second to recommend booking this airbnb, it's amazing! Thank you again Jane! All the best!

This well equipped cabin with log burner offers the ultimate getaway mid way along the stunning ‘Back of the Wight’ heritage coastline designated A.O.N.B. Secluded enough for privacy, it is the perfect rural escape & an excellent base for a walking or cycling break. 3min walk to the quiet beach & 2 min drive to the picturesque village of Brighstone with its historic buildings, post office, country pub & shop, you couldn’t be better positioned to discover the most attractive part of this island.
Approximately 22 ft x 15 ft total inside area it offers ample floor space for the additional memory foam z-bed or fold out sofa which are next to the double bed & available for a child or chum in the main room which is in a country cottage design. ( If you prefer a bit of privacy there is actually room in the carpeted kitchen diner to sleep if needs be.) The toilet / shower room is en-suite. You can see there is a porch to sit out on which is lovely to enjoy the view of the woodland & downland meadows in the really calm surroundings. The cabin is heated if needed in the Autumn & early Spring using either the 'Ladybird' log burner (for which a sack of logs & kindling will be provided) or the portable oil filled radiator & safety design electric heater. Potentially you could sleep 2 adults with 2 children using the temporary beds. There is a hook up for a camper van which can be parked to the side of the cabin & /or room for a small tent should children want to camp out! (2 man max.) If a tent is pitched this incurs an additional fee of £10 cash per night. The external hook up is £5 extra per day used. This additional payment would need to be made direct to the host on arrival.
There are 2 cabins right at the other end of the lawn / field & 2 more in the next pasture down. The village of Brighstone is 1 mile inland, accessed easily by footpath or road for all amenities. Isle of Wight Pearl is just across the road and has a nice cafe. Walking boots are recommended as if it rains some of the footpaths are rather muddy & the lane to the cabin gets puddly. You are directly across the road from the beach - some days shingly, some sandy - and can join the coastal footpath on the route down to it. Compton beach at Hanover Point is very popular & sandy also with toilets and ice cream / burger van. It is approx 3 miles to the West in the direction of Freshwater Bay, Alum Bay & The Needles - also worth a visit. If you've children Black Gang Chine & Dinosaur Farm situated on the coast road 3 miles to the East are also worth seeing. The viewpoint car park above Black Gang is an excellent starting point to walk up St Catherines' Down with Europe's only standing Medieval lighthouse/beacon known locally as 'The Pepperpot' at one end and 1 & 3/4 miles on at the Northern end the Hoy Monument. You can see the tips of the island at certain points along this downland. More immediately you can head inland and up to Brighstone forest.
• Great cabin on the South side of island, idyllic location and a short walk to the beach and stunning cliff views. Super location for exploring the island. Everything worked as it should and a hot shower and a comfy bed were most welcome after a long day. Plenty of good eating places not far away, but you need transport. Would thouroghly recommend staying here and Jonathan is a great host.

Phil2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
• Lovely cosy cabin, right next to the most beautiful part of the island. Great for being separate - we had our 2 month old with us so didn't worry about making too much noise! Perfect for a long weekend. The bedroom/ couch/ living area is one room, with a separate kitchen and separate shower/toilet room. Right back from the road and in the midst of trees - was great to wake up to the birds and a few cows mooing in the distance!

Zoe2019-09-05T00:00:00Z
• The Cabin was very Cosy as described. The bed was comfy. The surroundings and views were beautiful and idyllic. It was especially lovely sitting outside on the verandah having a morning coffee, so peaceful. The indoor and outdoor games in the cabin were very much appreciated. The shower was hot and powerful. The little extras like coffee, tea etc were a great help. Nice easy walk to the beach and coastal paths. Great part of isle of wight to stay as its breathtaking and peaceful and easy to travel everywhere. The viewpoint from blackgang is a must to look at. The pearl cafe which is a couple minutes from the cabin does an amazing breakfast with great views. Jonathon was a very helpful friendly host. He greeted us at the cabin with a warm smile and gave us lots of tips for our stay on where to visit and eat. I would highly recommend the cabin for a great place to stay to get away from it all and to explore the island. Very nice to come back to after a day of adventures. Look forward to staying again!! Thank you Jonathon.

• Lovely cosy cabin close to seasonal bus routes. Jonathan was very helpful and his tip about the Sun Inn was spot on. The games and books in the cabin were very helpful keeping us occupied when the weather was not great. Overall a wonderful stay.

Saurabh2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
• An excellent little space. Beach is just a few minutes walk and very quiet even in August. My three year old son and I had a great little holiday with Blackgang Chime just down the road.

• Jonathan’s accommodation is a true gem! Great facilities and exceptional location made our stay a pleasure. Thank you!

• We (a family of 5) had a fantastic time. The site is very well managed and the staff are friendly and helpful but the real star is the location, which is stunning. The caravans themselves are very clean and well maintained, if showing their age a little, and full of thoughtful touches. The site is quite exposed and so high winds can sometimes be an issue but it is the most extraordinarily beautiful spot and a great base for exploring the island.

• We had caravan number 5. It was new and had only been used a few times before. It was right on the sea front. Unobstructed views of the sea and about 1 minutes walk to the beach. The beach was half sandy half pebbles. We didn’t need the staff except to book in and out but they were all friendly and helpful. We would come back again.

Tim2018-08-07T00:00:00Z
• This is a great place. The hosts are incredibly thoughtful and nothing is too much trouble. The site is right on the ocean. A stones thow from all kinds of attractions. The accommodation was clean, roomy and had everything we needed. The local store had anything you could possibly require. Go and visit Grange Farm. You will love it!!

The Grain Store is one of four beautifully restored barn conversions located within Moor Farm, set in idyllic countryside only half a mile away from the village of Godshill, arguably one of the most picturesque villages on the Island. With its historic church, thatched cottages and tea rooms it enjoys a wealth of character and charm all of which are within walking distance. There really is something for all the family to explore including model village, museums, gift shops, pubs and restaurants. For couples and families wanting a more relaxing walking holiday there are many miles of public footpaths and countryside to explore on your door step. The resort town of Shanklin with its beaches, seaside attractions and thatched cottages is only a short drive away. The Red Squirrel footpath/cycle trail runs from Cowes to Sandown, passes through the courtyard of Moor Farm taking in some stunning wildlife habitats from woodlands to wetlands. . You may also spot visiting ducks in the farmyard pond, which has been recently created for enjoyment of guests. You can also access a local footpath (GL27) close to the barn, leading to Godshill Village (approx 15 mins walk.)
Godshill Godshill is the quintessential English Village, and boasts some of the oldest architecture on the Isle of Wight. With its delightful medieval church, charming thatched-roofed cottages and a winding main-street lined with traditional tearooms, Godshill is as picturesque as it is popular. It is also known for being the site of the first ever Isle of Wight Festival, which took place at Ford Farm in 1968. Whatever your interests there are plenty of things to do in Godshill during a visit. Along with its collection of traditional tearooms the village contains an interesting range of shops offering local crafts and produce, such as ciders, pickles, mustards and biscuits. Godshill also has a very popular and highly detailed model village. The medieval All Saints Church (which gave the village its name!) overlooks the village from the hill and is a short but steep climb up either the steps or Church Hollow road. Whether you are looking for a traditional cream tea or a tasty evening meal there is an excellent selection of places to eat in Godshill. The tearooms are a regular haunt for visitors and locals alike, and the local pubs are family friendly, with high beams and cosy fireplaces and are also highly rated for their food. With its central location Godshill makes a great place to base yourself for a visit to the Isle of Wight. As Godshill is located near the centre of the Island, there are plenty of direct buses northwards to Newport, across the Island to Ventnor, Shanklin and Sandown and eastwards to Ryde.
• Great location, walking distance to the village but lovely and secluded. We were made to feel welcome and very much enjoyed our stay. We will definitely be back!
