300 year old cottage, connected to our home, but completely self contained with own front door. 2 minutes from sea. Wonderful wildlife. 1 twin-beds bedroom, 1 single bedroom and shower room on first floor. Room for folding bed in sitting room.
Unst is the northernmost island in the UK with a population of about 650.
  • A great cozy, cottage to stay if you find yourself wanting a trip to Unst. Plenty of room and private. Rob & Catriona are splendid hosts and are very accommodating.

  • The cottage is located in a very quiet place. Everything was very clean and tidy. Catriona and Rob were very friendly and simple people, who were always ready to help and answer my questions about the surrounding area. The isla is tiny but still there is a lot to see and to do. I really enjoyed my stay and I hope to go back there again! Cheers!

  • The cottage was the perfect base for exploring Unst and Rob was extremely helpful in recommending local sightseeing and, in particular, inspired my walk to see Muckle Flugga. Would highly recommend and hope to be back someday!

The Seabarn has a great view. It's a very ecologically modernised 17c barn well insulated and heated. Warm and cosy. Lovely design and well appointed
The Old Sea Barn in Hillswick, Shetland.Opened on the 1st of June 2011 Direct access to the beach..The sea for breakfast..All on one level, with a high standard of design and finishing...Super cosy. Fabulous very high quality 17c barn conversion. One bedroom and a mezzanine.Sleeps four comfortably, but six at a push. Two bathrooms one en-suite.Fantastic sea view, with direct beach (website hidden) the village of Hillswick, Shetland. Central heating, phone and wifi General information £70 per night for whole house, electricity linen and towels included. The seabarn has a website with lots of info about the local area, links, things to do, (website hidden)/the-old-sea-barn-in-hillswick(phone number hidden) and it has a(website hidden)page (website hidden)(phone number hidden) Sometimes you can see an otter, who runs up past the beach and past the window... Northmavine is an outstanding place of natural beauty, with true wilderness ( the only tundra in Britain). There is the best coastal walking in Shetland here, from the well known cliffs and remote splendour of Eshaness, to the haunting beauty of Fedaland and Uyea. There are many prehistoric sites to be found both in North Mavine and the rest of Shetland and in fact one is just about a mile up the hill from the house. Northmavine also has excellent loch fishing and permits are easily obtained and inexpensive. There are also two very interesting golf courses near to Lerwick, a nine hole and an eighteen hole and one on the island of Whalsay, which is a real challenge. We have an excellent local Craft Shop, in Hillswick, Oily Muggie. There is a restaurant locally the Braewick Cafe. and in Hillswick, the historic St Magnus Bay hotel which supplies the best homemade chips north of Frankies fish and chip shop in Brae. There is also the historic Busta House Hotel locally in Brae. There is a local community shop in Hillswick for food (3 miles), and one in Ollaberry for food and fuel (6 miles). There is a breakdown garage in Ollaberry. Brae has a CO-OP and two garages, one of which does fuel also. There is a bus service to Lerwick twice in the morning, at 7.30 am and at 10 am except Wednesday and Sunday, returning at 5 pm. Wildlife Simon King , the Wildlife Photographer stayed locally in Northmavine in 2009 or some time, whilst filming his Shetland Diaries. The beach below South House known as the Blade is a good place to look out for otters, as well as being a home for Arctic Terns from May until August. The Hillswick Wildlife Sanctuary as featured can be visited locally.
It's in the village, but great access to fab walks, a good wee community shop, and petrol and the local hotel for evening meals. There is a beach right beside us.
  • Great experience. Kenji speaks good English and is friendly and helpful.

  • The Sea Barn is a lovely home from home. Great little kitchen/dining area for delicious home cooking (local store has all the essentials), comfy, cozy bedrooms and amazing views from living room. Whether you're looking to hole up and escape or get out and explore, you'll love the barn. We'd definitely consider returning.

  • very good experience with kenji. cycling and watch a lot of things nearby. I enjoyed it so much

    Benny2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • For a peaceful stay in the wilds of the north, with long walks, and wide open vistas, a stay at the Seabarn is for you. The house is cosy and comfortable, with everything provided for a carefree break. A convenient shop with a fuel pump, and a local hotel with bar and dining room, ensure most creature comforts are catered for.

  • It was an awesome experience biking in the countryside of Inabe. Kenji was very knowledgeable and he provided tips, trivia and recommendations for different places in the area. Don't forget to wear sunscreen! Overall, a great experience - highly recommended!

    Ian2019-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • When I ran through nature on a bicycle, the sky looked more beautiful. Wind, coolness, green beauty, river sound when passing through the forest. I was healed all over my body. And it was fun that my host Kenji talked to me.

"Pirrie Snabuil” overlooks Magnus Bay and the beautiful sandy beach of West Ayre, you are two minutes’ walk from the local shop, the Wildlife sanctuary, craft shop & hotel
Margaret & Jeff welcome you to their recently renovated and unique Shetland studio cottage, situated in the rural village of Hillswick in the Northmavine area of the Shetland Isles. "Pirrie Snabuil" can be your holiday haven, with artistic and organic tactile sculptures you can drift into your inner peace or take in the surrounding beauty by foot or bicycle or enjoy a quiet glass of wine in the sheltered garden.
  • With easy access to points on the north end of this island, and to both islands of Yell and Unst, this stunningly beautiful cottage, including a view I couldn't stop taking pictures of, is comfortable and clean. Margaret and Jeff are delightful hosts who left thoughtful touches throughout including fresh flowers, soft and fluffy towels, and lots of warm bedding for cool Shetland nights. I hope to stay again the next time I'm in Shetland. Be sure to check out the views behind the cottage too--there's a berm that they've built to protect from the wind and it's the perfect place to watch the sunset. Their garden is a sight to see as well. I could not have asked for a better place.

    Jeanne2019-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic time with wild walks and wonderful wildlife. The accommodation is very comfortable, modern and stylish with everything we needed. Jeff made us very welcome and couldn't have been more helpful. This is a perfect place to stay, we thoroughly recommend it.

    Louise2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • Pirrie Snabuil is such a special place ♥️- inside and outside so beautiful. It was the best place, we could find for these dreamlike holidays. The small cottage is perfect for two persons. It is equipped with a wonderful taste and a warm heart, a lot of creative mind in it and around the house- there is everything you could need. From the garden you see two beaches, you have got a little place to enjoy this and your coffee or wine for yourself- it is incredible ... Margaret and Jeff are wonderful hosts- cautious when needed and wonderful in contact. From this place you can start so many awesome tours, the landscape is breathtaking. Now we are at home again and we will miss this place all our life- but we are happy, that we had this wonderful time, Thank you both so much, Margaret and Jeff!!

    Sabine2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • A great private, well appointed self catering accommodation for 2. Close to the community shop which is well stocked. Highly recommended.

    Rodney2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • This is an absolutely wonderful place, both the built home and the warmth of the caretakers. Jeff and Margaret take extremely good care of everything: the apartment is very well kept up, with all the amenities one needs for cooking and cleaning. Jeff, who is a master woodworker, has built beautiful things out of driftwood. He is extremely responsive if there are any issues, from laundry to directions. He gives excellent recommendations about places to eat and visit. The view is nothing short of spectacular: Jeff has built a little viewing platform outside where one gazes at the sheep, the luscious grass, the cliffs and the beach. Hillswick is a charming little village, with a great general store and well situated for exploring in Shetland!

    Suzanne2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • We came back for the second time to Pirrie Snabuil, and it's always beautiful to spend time relaxing in the garden looking the bay, or walking around. Jeff & Margaret are very welcoming and it's nice to chat with them.

    Laura2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • Margaret and Jeff are perfect hosts. Its a beautiful house, with wonderful views. You can start hikes directly from the garden or enjoy the views from a terrace down to the beaches.

    Martina2019-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • Pirrie Snabuil is both a work of art and a very comfortable, suberbly located base for discovering Hillswick and its surroundings. Thanks to the local community run shop and the amenities provided in the house, we had everything we needed for a self catering holiday. We didn’t have a car so were not intending to go very far but in fact were able to do day trips to Sumburgh Head and Eshaness using the excellent bus system. We spent quite a lot of time just enjoying the house, its views and magical garden. We also did some wonderful walks around Hillswick.

Lingarth is a cosy croft house restored to modern standards between 2008 - 2015. Two double bedrooms, a modern kitchen and bathroom, a warm sitting room and a sun-porch with views of the sea and cliffs.
This 250+ year old cottage has been restored to modern standards of insulation and finish. A super-cosy sitting room with solid fuel stove, a lovely kitchen that is homely but modern, and a beautiful setting in the heart of Cullivoe, looking across at the cliffs of the Blue Mull and the waters of the Bluemull Sound. The house will feel like your own home during your stay - clean and ready for you - but is full of history and personality with books, paintings and pictures that complement its location.
Cullivoe is a lovely small village with a population of around 200 friendly and welcoming souls. There is a small shop for the basics, a village hall that has frequent social evenings, and beautiful walks and views throughout the area.
  • I couldn’t recommend Barry’s place more highly, it is stylish, beautifully clean and in a great location to explore Yell/Unst. Barry went above and beyond in his communication with us to make sure we had a fantastic stay, this was so appreciated especially getting caught in a storm and in a potentially stranded situation. Thanks so much Barry!!!!

Byre conversion with a twist. All electric, heating and accessories supplied by coin meters which accepts £1 and £2 coins
Very peaceful and tranquility when the sun shines
  • Great home base for exploring the northern islands. You can literally watch the ferry arrive and decide when to head down. Really nice converted barn with a nice couch, toasty electric fireplace, and good little kitchen. The secret book door into the bedroom was a cute touch! We loved seeing the chickens and hairy coos out the windows!

  • We loved every moment of our stay. What a cosy space Donna and Scott managed to create ! And all this in a wonderful setting ! The view down to Gutcher ferry port is beautiful - and the mix between busier ferry times and the calm in between underlines the wonderful feeling of remoteness. Diving gannets guaranteed and black guillemots and otters possible, what could there be more to hope for ? Certainly a place to come back to. Thank you !

  • The Snugg is a cosy, very comfortable cottage in a beautiful location. We had a wonderful stay - the views are beautiful and it was fun having the hens and sheep as neighbours. The heating is very effective and much appreciated. It's a perfect location for the Unst ferry too. Scott and Donna are very responsive and helpful. We thoroughly recommend The Snugg and hope to be back!

Traditional stone cottage with modern extension. In a wonderful spot with a great view.
‘Noosthamar’ a cottage built in the early 1900’s, has 3 double rooms (1 en-suite) and 1 twin. It has a modern kitchen, exposed stone walls, tiled contemporary bathroom and 2 living areas. The house was completely renovated and had a new extension built in 2012.
Noosthamar is in a private area with fantastic views over Burrafirth, the beach and beyond to Hermaness nature reserve. ,
  • A very comfortable house with excellent amenities and a stunning view, perfect for staying on Unst.

    Sandra2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing, clean and spacious place in an exceptionally scenic and picturesque location. We spent a few days on Unst but this property probably has the best view on the island! The location is good for those who want to have nature right on the doorstep. The property is a mix of a traditional cottage and a modern extension with a good stove. Everything works, is top quality, and everything was very clean and comfortable. The wifi is good and reliable. Plenty of storage and room for car parking. Comfortable beds, excellent showers and efficient heating in every room. The host, Joanne, is excellent and communicative. Can’t fault it, would highly recommend to anybody, and will definitely return. Thanks for a memorable stay.

  • The location of the Shorestation is sublime and the studio room was spacious and comfortable. Tony was very welcoming and accommodating. We really enjoyed Tony's home cooked food and his company. Would have loved to have stayed a few more days.

  • A nice host in a lovely house in a wonderful place!

    Federica2019-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • A marvellous place to stay, very relaxing and beautiful and Tony is a really kind and considerate person and great fun! Breakfast and dinners were delicious, and for the brave ones there is a lovely beach to go for a swim.

    Johanna2019-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • I had a fantastic stay at the Shorestation; the location is stunning and perfect for hiking and walking or enjoying nature and wildlife. Tony is a great host and an excellent cook; his vegetarian meals are delicious and his homemade bread is simply unbeatable. I especially enjoyed the long conversations with him at the kitchen table in his cosy kitchen. Tony knows a lot about the area and he will definitely do his best to make you feel at home and make your stay an unforgettable experience. It‘s also easy to reach the place if you are travelling by bus. Just let the driver know that you would like to go to the Shorestation and he or she will take you there. The room is extremely spacious and the view is extraordinary. I can highly recommend Tony and I cannot wait to return to the Shorestation. It has been the best experience with Airbnb so far.

    Sigrid2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • I had an absolutely fantastic time at the shorestation, and Tony was the most superb host, cooking delicious meals every day with extraordinarily interesting conversation to boot. The actual location was divine, and Tony was especially helpful in providing maps, leaflets, etc and giving tips on things to see and do in the local area. Couldn't be better.

    Henry2019-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • Staying with Tony was a singular experience. The room was spacious and adorned with interesting sculptures, of his making. Although I don’t possess a helicopter, nor did we travel by that mode, just outside the window is a conveniently located helipad. It is interesting to note that this is the most northerly occupied building in the British Isles. Tony was an interesting and superb host. He provided breakfast and cooked vegetarian-based dinners, on request. He was kind enough to entertain, in addition to us, a couple of friends who came to stay nearby. Unfortunately the wine waiter had a tendency to pour from the wrong side but the cloakroom attendant seemed efficient in her duties.

    David2019-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • Tony is a very genial & hospitable host. His home made bread is to die for. His other cooking is good too. He is full of knowledge about Unst & gives useful tips of where to go. The piece de resistance was the peat fire in the sitting room which was so cosy on a damp, cold day.

Even the south, eg Sumburgh, is only a little over an hour. The house has everything you need and is well equipped, and the sofa is incredibly comfortable. An ideal place for one or two people. Josie was incredibly quick to reply to messages. One of the best places I’ve stayed at and will definitely stay again

    Rob2019-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • Josie’s cottage is a lovely, cosy space that is fitted with fantastic amenities. The surrounding fields and coast make you feel like you’re enjoying the real Shetland from the comfort of a lovely cottage. The place itself is very stylish and beautiful. We really enjoyed our stay here!

  • A place to relax and enjoy the remoteness of the property. The view from the bedroom window was stunning. Especially while you are having your early morning tea in bed !!!!

    David2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Josie’s croft is cozy (super comfy sofa in front of the fireplace) and nicely decorated, with all the amenities needed. We loved the location and the views. Josie has plenty of tips on things to see and do in the area and communication with her was super. Thanks again!

    Stephanie2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • I’ve had such a lovely time in your cosy Cottage while the wind howled outside and the fire roared inside- it was Great. Then the beautiful calm after the storm and full moon across the Voe. So peaceful and tranquil. 😃 Thank You Josie, X

  • This cosy croft made for an excellent holiday!!

    Helen2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • Had such a lovely time at Josie's, it's quiet but very close to Brae for local shops, and easy to get to Lerwick or the ferries for sight seeing! The house is gorgeous too, I meant to ask where the animal cushions were from!

    Frank2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Magical. Fairytale-like place. So quiet and peaceful, cozy and nice. Amazing sofa, so spacious and snuggling. Perfect for people who seek tranquility. Setting up the fire, drinking tea from the big-enough mug, watching sheep graze and then pass by the window on their way home, the sea... plain fantastic.

  • The house is very pretty and welcoming, equipped with basic necessities and various comfortable appliances (washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, double oven, etc.). There is an excellent view of the bay and if the weather permits there is a nice garden with a picnic table. Lilian's explanations are clear and detailed and she is always very courteous in replying. Great experience

    Cristiana2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed 3 nights at Lilian's. It was cosy and warm, like in one's own country cottage. We loved it there.

Idyllic Ness beach view over Yell Sound. A gravel track takes you to a secluded private house. Spacious en suite room and use of large private living room overlooking two beaches. Spend time otter spotting, and seals and seabirds in abundance. Guests are welcome to use my gym.
The ferry comes in to Yell in Ulsta and we are located 3 miles north. The location is perfect for a longer stay and a base from which to explore Unst, Fetlar but also North Mavine and the rest of Shetland. Lerwick is after a 15 minute ferry crossing only 40 minutes drive away. Yell boasts several amazing beaches and is also great for longer walks through an unspoiled uninhabited landscape. A hike through the Lumbisterdale (allow for 4+ hours) will make your stay memerable.
A local shop at Ulsta, the ferry terminal will provide all basics. Yell also has a well appointed little museum in Burravoe, it serves teas and cakes. The Mid Yell Diner, LJ's offers meals. In Aywick you can get lost in Yell's famous shop, locally know as "Mary's". If you can't find it there you don't need it....
  • Excellent hosts, lovely house set in a really nice area by the sea, with a very large double room. Peter is also a wealth of knowledge about the area and helped me make the most of Yell. I'll definitely be coming back.

A traditional Shetland Crofter's cottage in Baliasta, Unst, Shetland. Close by to the Loch of Cliff, near to the local shops and leisure centre. We absolutely love our little spot and enjoy opening it up to our many well-travelled guests. The cottage is very cosy, has a wood burning stove, and a good-sized garden. Please be aware though, that it is a very old house and as such has some rustic quirks. While we are happy to accommodate children please be aware all beds are doubles.
The perfect place for a quiet get away, Scraefield is located at the end of a quiet lane in the dip of a small valley in Baliasta, near to Baltasound's shops and amenities. There are two small double rooms upstairs, with a bathroom (with bathtub but please note there is NO SHOWER), and a cosy living room with a pull out sofa-bed, and a wood burner, and fully equipped kitchen downstairs. The living room includes a television with freeview and a DVD player, as well as a traditional wood-burning stove which will keep you very toasty and warm in the evenings. Please Note: The TV aerial can sometimes get blown in the wind affecting the signal. If this happens during your stay, please just get in touch, and I will have someone come and fix it. The house also has wifi. You will find the code on the router on the windowsill. PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING: The house is very old and has its imperfections. As mentioned there is no shower, and there is an ongoing schedule of maintenance on the house, but with all things Shetland, this is slow going. On occasion, birds can fly down the chimney and get stuck, causing a blockage, and you may have to remove them. The boiler is also small, so you shouldn't run the bath too long as the water will go cold. The house is not suitable for anyone seeking a luxurious get away, but is perfect for those who don't mind a few idiosyncrasies and are up for an adventure! The local area is incredibly peaceful and quiet. The cottage sits next to the remains of the Baliasta Kirk ruins, which are worth exploring. A short walk away is the leisure centre which has a pool, gym and other sports facilities. Beyond the leisure centre you will find the very sweet St. John's Church, and Ethel's shop where you will find all the supplies you need for your stay, as well as the UK's most northerly post office. The island has many beautiful beaches which are perfect for idyllic walks: Norwick, Sandwick, Skaw, Westing, Uyeasound. At the Southern end of the island you will find Muness Castle, offering a glimpse into Shetland history. The island is also littered with Viking longhouse remains and other archeological delights. In Haroldswick you will find the recently completed replica Viking Longhouse and Viking ship, as well as Victoria's teashop, The Unst Heritage Centre and the Boat Haven (both open May-September). There are plenty of places to explore on the island, and in the evenings you can grab a meal or a few pints at the bar at Saxavord, or check out one of the dances going on at the Haroldswick, Baltasound or Uyeasound halls. Unst is a magical place to stay, a world of it's own. You will have a beautiful, peaceful stay whether you're up for puffin spotting at Hermaness nature reserve, or just keen to curl up by the fire with a book, and we would love to have you stay at our family run home.
The house is a short walk from the beautiful loch of cliff, the leisure centre and nearby to the local shops.
  • It is amazing beautiful place with very clear air and wide landscape. The water is very tasty and the air is very clean, and there was nothing to disturb me but strong winds. Unfortunately the log stove was broken at my stay, but it was wonderful experience in this cosy house at the most north island in UK.

  • Peaceful, cosy, retreat. Lots on the doorstep should you choose to venture out. Comfortable accomodation in a traditional Shetland croft. Great for families. Highly recommend.

    Kerri2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a wild retreat, then this place is perfect! The cottage is comfortable and cosy. It isn't ultra modern, but that is just the way that we like it. The views are beautiful and you will wake to the sound of birdsong and sheep. It is advisable to come with a car as the distances between things are surprisingly large, and the local car hire and taxi services, whilst extremely friendly and helpful, are limited.

    Mary2019-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Very cute cottage in a very quiet place. The house is small but has everything you need to feel good. There is no shower but a bathtub and hot water. You just have to do a little different to wash. The stove is nice and can remove moisture. There are radiators everywhere so the cold is not to be feared. There are small grocery stores in the village and a gas pump. We really enjoyed this place, thank you Julia.

    Elisabeth2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • The Croft is a really cosy cottage. It’s a little rustic - but that’s the charm! Excellent location - very handy for all Unst sights. The Croft has everything we needed for a family of four to stay comfortably. We cooked some good meals! We really recommend staying on Unst if you want to fully experience the island. There’s so much to do and with variable weather, it’s nice to have the flexibility to change schedule as weather permits. We walked to Woodwick Beach from the Croft - a fabulous walk. Check out Victoria’s tea house in Haroldswick - amazing hot smoked salmon sandwich! We fully recommend the Croft - can’t get better value for money in such a wonderful place!!!

    Mara2019-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place to explore Unst. Few minutes drive to shops and main attractions. Clear, comfortable basement.

Scarpoe's Kitchen is an ancient "Kytja" house in the beautiful island of Yell, in Shetland. It has been completely restored and is offered as a high quality and unique place to stay. The former crofthouse is the perfect spot to get away from it all. It is easy to lose yourself in “da Herra,” a magical place where ancient legends of giants and trolls abound. The air is clean and summer days are long. A feeling of age, peace and endurance is ever present in this beautiful valley.
The secluded location belies the fact that the Herra is probably the most convenient location for visitors to the island of Yell, being situated in the middle of the isle. It is a short distance from the main village - leisure centre, swimming pool, shop are approximately 8 minutes drive away. There is a veritable host of things to do right on your doorstep, however, and you can fill your days without ever stepping in your car, should you wish to. Sleeping 2, the accommodation, heated by an air-source heat pump is equipped to a very high standard and comprises: Modern fitted kitchen with induction hob, electric oven, fridge, microwave etc. Mezzanine gallery bedroom. Open plan living room-kitchen with half-vaulted ceiling - with the natural light pouring in through fixed lightbox style skylights you can feel a real sense of space. The sofa doubles up as a comfortable bed with memory foam mattress, for those who do not wish to sleep aloft. Smart, satellite TV and CD-stereo player and books mean you have something to do if you cannot venture out. Large shower room with underfloor heating. There is a large garden area to the front – outside seating to follow. Parking, with room for several vehicles, is to the side and behind the house. We are delighted to report we now supply wi-fi. There is a strong 4G signal in da Herra so it is also possible to tether your smartphone for connectivity.
The area is so full of things to do, you need hardly ever step in your car! Right outside the door you can go fishing, walking, birdwatching, otter and even whale/dolphin watching on occasion. If you want to work out or swim, there is a leisure centre a few miles away in Mid Yell. The ferries are about equidistant to the north (for Unst and Fetlar) and south (the mainland).
  • Great service, great stay!

  • Surprising, super stylish and modern space in an ancient stone building! Wonderful location for those who love remoteness and wild and rugged scenery. I was in Yell for work, but found my time in Scarpoe's Kitchen very peaceful, restful and restorative.

  • This is a beautiful cottage in a stunning remote location. We loved being able to hear and see the sea from outside the front door and it was the perfect location for star gazing. The cottage has been so thoughtfully and tastefully converted and is very comfortable. This is the perfect spot to relax and explore the northern Isles.

  • Fantastic spot, great stone cottage with modern amenities...incredible walks to Eigg Cliff....spotted otters in the voe...friendly and accommodating folk who drove us where we needed to go. We were told by Inga that to visit Yell without a car would require commitment as it is an isolated place...it was well worth the commitment and much easier to get around than one would imagine....

  • We were after a getaway where we didn’t have to be time bound or be bound at all to anything. This was like our wish turned into a perfect reality. Felt like a thousand steps closer to nature and it was amazing to wake up to the ever beautiful lake. Loved the chickens and Of course Eva the 20 year old sheep!! Amazing Croft house and lovely hosts!! Btw Bruce - we had a chance to speak to your son and to your grandson Joe!! Such lovely people. We would be so lucky if our minds somehow bring us here again!! The cottage is clean, cosy and warm, the kitchen has every gadget you can imagine, the lounge area is comfy with wi-fi, and freesat which came in very handy. The bedrooms are spacious and airy, so too is the bathroom which had a great shower! Debbie and Steven are great at keeping in touch with you and they've taken the time to add little touches to the cottage to give it a homely feel. • What a great place! We had everything we needed and more. Newly built and fitted, the property provided a perfect base for exploring all areas of Shetland. The big windows gave fabulous views over the sea and a perfect spot to watch the weather come and go. It’s very peaceful, with sheep grazing in the field next door and the odd rabbit hopping by. Although we never met Karen, she was in touch to check all was fine and it was clear she was there to help if needed. We would highly recommend a stay.

  • The croft is in a stunningly beautiful location, with walks by the sea within easy reach, and the shop a short drive down the road. Remote enough to enjoy the solitude but only 25 minutes from Lerwick. I was there in November when temperatures at night fell close to zero, but with the wood-burning stove it was cosy and warm. Everything very clean and well-equipped, and although I didn't meet Helen, there really was no need as she responded instantly to messaging via the AirBnb app. Strongly recommended to anyone who's looking for the authentic croft experience.

    Cath2019-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Soeblink. First of all, the location is superb! It's almost in the middle of the mainland, which means you can easily travel north, south, east and west and Tingwall airport is around 20m drive, giving you access to Fair and Foula Islands. Soeblink is located in a very beautiful area, we enjoyed stunning sunsets while we were there and had lovely local walks. The house itself is really cute, so cosy, the kind of place you want to go back to after a long day out exploring and trekking. You will find everything you need in it. Hilary and Lyndon are both very approachable and respond very quickly to any queries. Highly recommended!

  • Cozy cottage in beautiful surroundings that provides all the facilities you need, stunning view, quiet location (remote yet not too far from Lerwick), ideal for a relaxing holiday

    Peter2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Love the stay at Soblink could not fault the croft.

    Geoffrey2019-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • Great location to explore Shetland. Lovely views and very peaceful. Nice walk nearby to Ling ness. Comfortable homely cottage, great check in and excellent hosts. Would definitely stay again.

Overlooking the Atlantic, Westerbrake is a get away from it all experience. A cosy croft house, tucked away in a private coastal setting. Sea views, Breckon Beach, wildlife, walking and fishing 'on the doorstep'. Free from the intrusions of internet and TV - connect with nature for a while instead! Perfectly located base for exploring or birding Fetlar, Unst and Yell and within easy reach of Shetland Mainland. We are happy to accommodate short stays out of season and last-minute so please ask.
Westerbrake has been lovingly refurbished. Original, vintage and antique features and furnishing have been kept wherever possible so its unique character still shines through. Modern insulation behind traditional wood panelling makes the cottage warm and cosy - even in the winter. There is a double bed in the bedroom and a traditional boxbed in the living room. The boxbed dimensions are 1.81m x 1.32m (5'11'' x 4'4''). Not quite as wide or long as a double so it is listed as single but it is bigger than single. It is ideal for one or two older children to share. It can of course accommodate adults so long as the dimensions are ok for you. We provide binoculars, maps and a wide selection of natural and cultural history books about Shetland and the local area to help you soak up your surroundings. We also provide a selection of games, puzzles and books to help you relax. The cottage has a portable Bluetooth speaker for you to listen to your own music if you have a Bluetooth enabled device. There are also USB charge points in the living room. There is an FM radio should you wish for some contact with the outside world! The freshly refurbished wash room has a spacious walk-in shower and a laundry cupboard with washing machine. There is a clothes dryer outside. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering with a kettle, toaster, electric oven with hobs & grill and a fridge-freezer.
Although it's situation is secluded, Westerbrake is just a couple of minutes drive from the local Cullivoe shop where you can stock up on essentials. Yell has four other well stocked shops spread throughout the isle including three that sell fuel and one that doubles up as a café. Yell has two Rural Seaside Award-winning sandy beaches (including Breckon Beach just a few minutes walk away) and mile after mile of coastline to explore. Everything from sandy beaches to pebbly bays, dramatic cliffs and gentle rocky shores. It also has some of the best preserved peat-land in Shetland if sphagnum mosses, bog orchids and sundews are your thing. There is a local bar in the Cullivoe Community Hall that is open every Friday night. There are several places where you can shop for Shetland artwork and hand produced crafts in Yell including The Shetland Gallery, GlobalYell Textiles and Burravoe Haa craft shop. (Within seasonal opening hours). Mid Yell has a leisure centre with a pool and gym and a healthcare centre with doctors and dental surgery.
  • A lovely cottage with all mod cons for a really cosy stay. The location is truly amazing - perfectly situated for stargazing. Martha was a great host and gave us plenty of local tips and the best places for wildlife watching.

    Benjamin2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • I booked 5 nights at this magnificent little cottage expecting to be in a secluded location, away from the hustle and bustle of the city and in touch with nature. Not only I got what I expected, but I could not be prepared by how beautiful the place really is. It is directly above the nearby cliffs and sands and from the cottage you cannot see any other houses, not even in the distance. I spent a wonderful time on Yell and after coming back home I feel like I fully regenerated, ready to go back to work again. Massive thanks to Martha, her husband and their neighbours too. At one point my car got stuck in the mud next to the cottage (my own fault...) and within an hour after telling them what happened, there was a tractor towing my vehicle out. I cannot emphasise enough how friendly these people are. The only regret I have: not having stayed longer. THANK YOU!!!

    Egon2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is fabulous, very old style with its box bed and lots of original stuff. It was lovely and warm, clean, comfy and they really had thought of everything! Our first night was a howling gale! We spent it cosy and warm eating hot stew and tatties and watching one of the great dvds from their huge collection. What a brill time, we could keep raving on and on but really, thank you both for every thing.

    Charis2019-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful week staying at Westerbrake. The location is outstanding and the cottage is cosy with everything you need. Martha and Malcie are great hosts, they were there to welcome us and gave us advice on walks and wildlife including guiding us by text to a pod of orcas that were travelling up the west side of the Shetland mainland on the day we left Yell! We thoroughly recommend Westerbrake and look forward to staying there again before too long.

    Heather2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at this cottage - a perfect spot for peace, relaxation and walking (not to mention a long-overdue digital detox).

    Catherine2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • For anyone desiring an authentic experience of a croft in a secluded location, this romantic place is ideal. At the same time, it had all the modern comforts. Sheep and cows congregated on the fence and it was a spectacular short walk to the white sands of Breckon Beach, one of the best beaches in the Shetland Islands. We were close to shops stocking local products. Bird watching was very rewarding.

    John2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic views from the garden. Near to an outstanding beach, where we spend two days in the sunshine, swimming and watching arctic terns diving into the sea for the eels. Our girls , 6 and 8, loved the box bed. Close to the Unst ferry. Martha is a wildlife expert and guided us to a pod of orcas on our last day.

  • If you're looking for a remote but comfortable place to stay - Martha's cottage is the perfect place. It has a wonderful coastal view; a beautiful sandy beach nearby; it's a nature lovers paradise and most importantly - it's a very comfortable and characterful place to return to after a day exploring the island. Martha is a very helpful and thoughtful host, with excellent knowledge of the local area.

This traditional croft house has been recently renovated to a high standard. Just 50 metres from Aith Voe and overlooking the Ayres beach, it is an ideal location for bird, seal and otter watching, fishing and coastal walks. Close to the small village of Aith with attractions including leisure centre, shop and lifeboat station.
The Old Ayres is situated on the west mainland of Shetland and is the perfect location for exploring the isles. There are many vehicle hire firms available in Shetland as a car would be essential to enhance your stay. Shetland offers a host of attractions. Most of all it offers wide open spaces, beautiful wild scenery and coastline supporting an array of wild life on your doorstep. There are many outdoor opportunities from bird watching to fishing, and a varied selection of tours and guided walks. We have a rich cultural heritage with strong links to Scandinavia and the Vikings. The world famous Lerwick Up Helly Aa festival takes place in January with many more smaller fire festivals taking place all over the isles. Shetland’s ‘larder’ contains a surprising selection of the freshest and tastiest produce. Whether buying to cook for yourself or letting the professionals do it for you in a variety of eating-out establishments, you’re sure to find something tasty to set you up for the next exciting day of your holiday. For an appetising dining experience there’s everything from award-winning fish and chip shops and hotel dining to modern café bar venues and eastern takeaways. Eateries are located throughout the islands, giving plenty of opportunity to enjoy a tasty, relaxing meal or a quick coffee and cake. Most of all Shetland offers a warm welcome to visitors. The Old Ayres is situated on the west mainland of Shetland and is the perfect location for exploring the isles.
Aith itself offers an excellent array of amenities: Community Co-op and Post Office; village hall; leisure centre with swimming pool, steam room and sauna; Michael’s Wood – a small, family-friendly, memory wood; Aith Charity Shop and Britain’s most northerly lifeboat station. Within two miles the newly opened Cake Fridge Tearoom offers some of the best home bakes and bites in Shetland.
  • Lovely clean and cosy cottage, with everything we needed. Friendly hosts made for a very relaxing stay, exploring the best of the Shetland islands.

  • A beautiful and spacious house in an amazing location on the beach. It’s very well located for the west coast and an easy 25 minute drive from Lerwick. The house was super snug and has obviously been recently renovated to a high standard. The kitchen was very well stocked and Mandy and Ian were really friendly. Can’t recommend this place enough!

    Chris2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • Such a great place to stay!!! We are 100% convinced that booking this lovely, charming and cosy cottage was our best choice. It’s located in Aith, just 50 metres from Aith Voe and overlooking the Ayres beach, where we spent a perfect New Years Eve with mulled wine at a campfire. Stunning and perfectly placed for exploring the Mainland. The croft is beautiful, very clean and offered anything we needed to spend wonderful days! Many thanks to Ian and Mandy for being such lovely hosts! Always helpful and so kind. We will never forget our first time on the Shetlands and “Da Old Ayers”! We highly recommend this place ❤️

    Melanie2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderfully located cosy cottage, with great facilities, and genuinely friendly hosts. The otters and seals literally right on the immediate shore, were wonderful to see and experience! The tranquility of the Voe was also very relaxing. Shetland has so much to offer, even to be seen on the shortest day of the year! Many thanks Mandy&Ian😄

    Peter2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely clean, warm and comfortable croft, with everything we needed. Location is stunning and perfectly placed for exploring Mainland. Though it was October we had better weather than we expected, lots of sunshine amongst the showers and loads of rainbows! Host is friendly and welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wish we could have stayed much longer.

    John2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely warm, cosy, characterful cottage. Good wifi. Several sightings of otters on the shoreline right in front of the cottage. Would definitely recommend.

    Mike2019-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • Really nice place to stay, lovely views, quiet location for a bit of R & R, highly recommended.

    Wayne2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful, peaceful, charming place! Da Old Ayres is stocked with everything you need: great kitchen amenities, a powerful gas stove, warm heaters everywhere, a lovely bath. It made the perfect place to rest up after long days out walking. If you do stay near Aith, do not miss the Cake Fridge, a lovely cafe with an "honesty box" outside—take whatever baked treats you like, leave cash. Great walks all over the area. Definitely be sure to walk out by Westerwick, as recommended in Mandy's info book!

Camp in comfort. Shop short drive away. Bus 3 minutes walk. Single gas hob, small sink (no running water), narrow fold down beds (not ideal for anyone over 5ft 10), small toilet cubicle. Water supplied. Shower/toilet, wifi accessed in house also to charge up devices. Use of kitchen with prior arrangement. Devices can be charged up in the caravan. Pleasant rural surroundings. Good for couples and solo adventurers to camp in comfort. Own transport recommended. Please note: Caravan not heated.
The caravan was built in the early 1950s and we have tried to keep the interior as close to the original as possible with the addition of solar powered lights. There is no heating but during the summer the sun warms the caravan. There is no running water but water will be provided. The caravan is next to a busy stream (burn). I have 4 cats (they don't go in the caravan) and 3 chickens which are free range. Please note the beds are small and narrow.
Quiet rural area with great views.
  • This is a seriously quirky and individual site, in a vintage wooden caravan, snuck away in a small woodland. But it is accurately described. Highly suited to backpackers, solo travellers and those wanting simple facilities.

    Graham2019-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • If you want something quirky, this just the thing - a comfortable period caravan beside the burn. Easy access to West Mainland.

    Martin2019-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • My partner stayed for two nights in Debra's caravan. It's quite cozy, bit it was such a fun and unique experience. The beds are converted chairs, and though they are quite comfortable, they're a bit narrow and short (my partner is 6'1" (1.86m) and he couldn't fully extend his legs. There's no heating in the caravan & it did get a bit drafty in the evening (mid-September), but the extra blankets really helped. All in all, a very lovely stay.

    Tracey2018-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Positively adorable caravan, full of nooks and crannies to make use of space. Easy to find from the bus stop, and a perfect option to camping. Plus, friendly chickens and cuddly kitties!

  • This is a perfect place for rest and relaxation or for travel and walking, it's well equipped and very cosy, with everything you need for a wonderful holiday. The location is stunning, with the most amazing views all round. It's very easy to get around, and the house, anyway, is pithing walking distance of Brae. Carolyn is so lovely and very helpful. I don't think she could have done more for us. She is the perfect host. Cannot recommend this place highly enough.

  • I loved it here so peaceful and very kind host

    Amanda2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Carolyn's Cottage is absolutely the best spot to experience all that Shetland has to offer. Carolyn herself is a wonderful person and the cottage is perfectly appointed with all the small touches that made it immediately feel like home! We couldn't have had a better time. This cottage is perfectly positioned to get into Lerwick but also to see Brae and go on some wonderful hikes. Great spot for stargazing and birdwatching. Carolyn even gave us insiders information on Up-Helly-Aa. Had some wonderful sunrises from the cottage and cannot wait for our next trip to Shetland... rebooking at Carolyn's Cottage of course! Thank you to Carolyn for the wonderful hospitality. -Carolyn and James

    Val2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • Carolyn's place is a great place to stay. A comfortable cottage at a perfect location to explore the island. We felt at home, immediately.

    Claudia2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Simply wonderful. Nothing more to be said. The weather was wild and wet, but our welcome couldn't have been warmer. One of our bags went astray, but Carolyn sorted us out with some kit to allow us two days of walking that we could have so easily missed out on.. The cottage has everything you need: it's warm, very comfortable and stylish. We hope to return.

    Jill2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Great location for exploring central and northern Mainland of Shetland. Plenty of excellent walks within a short car journey. Reasonable Co-op store in Brae only a couple of miles up the road. Very quite location with views of the surrounding hills and sea. Comfortable property which is well fitted out. Friendly host/owner close by.

    Alan2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying at Carolyn's place. The house is well situated to visit the west and north of the main island, and also the ferries that go to Unst and Yell. We had already spent several days in Lerwick to be close to the south end of the island and the town itself, but the drive into Lerwick was not far at all, so we actually ended up going back to Lerwick a couple of times as well. Communication with Carolyn was excellent. She was very helpful throughout. Everything is spotlessly clean and there is just about everything you could ever need in the kitchen. All mod cons, as the British say! We loved the fact that there are about 50 sheep right beside the house and they would sometimes come to great us when we got back at the end of the day. Very charming. Can't say enough about this lovely rental. Don't hesitate.

As featured in Shetnews 2019. Tiny home has captured the imagination of folk far and wide. Thoughtfully built to simplify life using eco friendly materials and a sensitivity to the Shetland landscape. It still has everything you need for a comfortable stay in beautiful surroundings. A fifteen minute drive from Lerwick - this unique space is the perfect retreat for both holidays or business trips. The views from tiny home are simply breathtaking.
Staying in tiny home will be a trip to remember. The space invites the outdoors in and helps reconnect us with nature. Everyone who steps into tiny says they are amazed at how spacious it feels. It is also oriented away from the main house and overlooking its own garden which allows a lot of privacy - a sense of being in a world of your own. Whether it’s lighting a fire outdoors or enjoying the wooden ofuro soaking tub - tiny home can hardly fail to give a magical experience
Situated in a quiet valley with lovely neighbours. You will witness the crofting calendar from Tiny Home’s windows and catch sight of sea trout jumping in the burn. All of this - a stones throw from Lerwick
  • The tiny home was an island sanctuary away from busy life (and from Storm Dennis, who rudely decided to visit Shetland the same time we were there)! Karen was a welcoming and friendly host who showed us how to use everything we would need (the wood burning stove was a treat!), and we very much appreciated the late check-out before our evening ferry. I would definitely stay here again. :)

    Rachel2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • This place is AMAZING!!! The view is INCREDIBLE! I literally can't say enough about how peaceful, eco-friendly, quiet, thoughtful touches and attention to detail. I absolutely LOVED it here and didn't want to leave. Karen was highly responsive (even when my phone died at the airport) and super friendly. The location was PERFECT because you're still only 10 min from downtown Lerwick, but had an amazing view and space. The personal touches of the lodge were beautiful, and highly functional. I personally do not like sterility of hotels, so this place was perfect and personalized. Wifi was incredibly fast so I had no problem streaming Netflix and emailing for work all at the same time--of course while looking out the huge window. I will DEFINITELY book again when I'm visiting Shetland. Please keep in touch Karen!!

    Jennifer2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely super little place! So cosy when we got the fire going and made for a perfect little night. The bath is super! Absolutely will be back through the summer!

    Dione2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay in Tiny Home so much! It's such a special place to spend your holiday. Ideal location for visiting different places all around Shetland as it's so central. Very close to Lerwick also -a 15ish minute drive, so very convenient for us as we got the ferry. The house itself is like a deluxe cabin with breathtaking views. It has everything you need and we loved making our own fires - it's definitely warm enough. We ended up staying an extra night as our ferry was delayed due to gale force winds, and it was still extremely cosy in tiny home. The place is so cleverly designed and all the extra touches are well thought out. It was actually more spacious than we expected. Our host was really helpful and gave us lots of suggestions for things to do. We'd definitely stay here again if we came back to Shetland. :)

    Annie2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • This tiny home is the best I have stayed in. Cosy, peaceful, all you need to enjoy a time out from the world.

    Zoe2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • I cannot recommend both Karen's beautiful tiny home or her fantastic company more. I was made to feel welcome immediately and she went above and beyond to make sure my experience was special and I won't forget it. As it was November the cold was quite concerning, however, Karen made sure the fire was good to go for the night and also provided a cosy sleeping bag which meant I was very comfortable and toasty warm for my entire stay. Looking forward to coming back already :) x

    Blue2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • Driving down in to the valley you could see the accommodation just to the left of the large white house, perfect location. Karen's communication throughout the booking and during my stay was fantastic. The accommodation has everything you need for a get away retreat. Once you have mastered the simple to use shower its all plain sailing. There is something quite comforting watching and listening to the rain and wind as it blows through the valley. WiFi is super quick and the small kitchen area has all you need. There are even some condiments and essentials that you may need. I would definitely book again. Thanks for the perfect stay Karen.

    Gary2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • What can I say? I want to go back and I wish I could stay for longer. I loved the location, the view and the tiny house is really thoughtfully built. Karen was very kind and gave me very useful local tips.

Otherwise we will leave you to enjoy in peace. The village of Voe is lucky to have an excellent local shop/ petrol filling station and a pub. Here you will find, amongst other options, the famous and award winning Frankie’s fish and chip restaurant, a Chinese takeaway, supermarket and Busta House Hotel for a quality meal & large whiskey selection. Please feel free to contact us should you have any questions.
  • Very nice place to stay, even if it's not in Lerwick. It's easy to find and Martin is really nice. Everything is made to make your trip easy. The bed is very confortable and everything is super clean. And it's calm. 😁

    Martine2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • Another fabulous stay and Martin the perfect host, and very approachable. The Chalet is in a lovely location and is ideal for the visitor being part of Shetland life. Just loved our visit.

    Susan2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Its very central mainland which is a good spot to be for visiting each area of Shetland mainland. The Chalet was very clean, welcoming and we wanted for nothing.

    Brenda2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Clean, well-maintained, beautifully kitted out. In a pleasant, quiet location on the edge of Voe, just a few yards in from the A970 ... next stop, Brae. Martin's a thoughtful and helpful host. Would be happy to stay there again. For a day ... or a week.

    Adam2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • The Chalet is a perfect base for exploring Shetland, very central for striking out in all directions. It is comfortable and cosy, well equipped, and we recommend it unreservedly! Martin and Alison are very friendly, couldn't ask for better hosts.

    Hilary2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • We picked Shetland as a destination for vacation just by chance and it was a wonderful expieriance. Even three weeks at Voe were not long enough to encounter all the beauties. It was a surprise to discover brochs and other excavations nearly at every walk we did. A tip: don't go to Shetland islands if you need disturbance, city noise, hustle and bustle. Martin ist a warmhearted host. The chalet, once the surgery of a GP fitted perfectly into our needs. If you search for the bakery, which is famous for delievering the best bread for the Royal Navy, take your time: its situated about 20m before the local pub. There is a lamp burning above the entry but no other sign.

Set within a large private garden with uninterrupted sea views, Gerdi is beautifully appointed with spacious comfortable rooms. Situated within easy walking distance of a sandy beach, local shop and hotel it is the ideal location to explore the stunning North Mavine scenery
Built in 2008 to a high standard, Gerdi sits within 1/2 acre of rough grass and well maintained flower beds - not common in Shetland - with willows providing shelter. There is disabled ramp access to the ground floor which consists of kitchen/dining room, living room, 2 double bedrooms (one with en-suite), bathroom and utility room. The kitchen is well equipped with electric hob and fan oven, microwave, fridge\freezer and dish washer. There is a separate utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer and freezer. The living room has 2 large windows giving panoramic sea views with comfortable seating for 6, but will accommodate more. Both double bedrooms have large built in wardrobes with the master bedroom having an en-suite shower and toilet. Upstairs there is a spacious twin bedroom and a bathroom with shower and toilet. There is also another double bedroom upstairs, so the house can sleep 8, howeverthe dining table can only seat 6 comfortably but 8 at a push. Outside there is a beautiful flower garden as well as a drying green and an area of natural grassland. Otters have been observed just below the house and birds of all types can be seen and on one memorable occasion a humpback whale feeding in the voe was viewed from the living room window.
Hillswick is a small village but has all the essential amenities, there is a community shop which opens 7 days a week and stocks all the essentials as well as fuel, the St Magnus Bay hotel has a bar and restaurant and there is also an art gallery, Wildlife sanctuary and craft shop. North Mavine, where Hillswick is situated is the least densely populated area of Shetland and is renowned for it's rugged beauty. There are many beautiful coastal walks nearby, Hillswick Ness is right on the door step and Eshaness, Ronas Hill, Fethaland and Uyea only a short drive away. Details for local walks are in an information folder in the property.
  • Beautiful home close to all amenities in Hillswick. Very helpful and kind owners

  • A great location with excellent views of sea and distant cliffs from my chair in the living room. I spent many a happy moment watching the Atlantic swell crash against the cliffs. Very clean house with accurate descriptions and an amazing helpful host. I would use this house again if visiting Shetland. Quiet, well furnished and easy to find.

  • Beautiful location and wonderful house. We enjoyed the view of the sea. Hilswick is a nice village with a supermarket and a hotel where you can eat well. From the house you can take a nice walk along the coast. We have seen many seals. The house could not be better. Very nice owners and wonderful beds. From the house you can view the north of Shetland. The north is very beautiful.

Located at the very heart of Shetland, with spectactular views & abundant nature, Orwick Lodge is a great base for exploring the Shetland Islands. Minutes from quiet rural beaches, the famous Hams o Roe, trying to spot an otter passing the window or waking up to Shalders on the patio, in 2018 Shetland had 2 pods of Orcas circumnavigating the islands. At evening you can enjoy the award winning Frankies fish & chips, enjoy complimentary mussels from our farm, or seek out Shetland music.
Located within central Shetland, rural yet convenient, great views and nature. The property is modern, 4 star for facilites, 5 star for cleanlines. Air source heat pump provides eco-sustainable underfloor heating.
Muckle Roe is quiet, with great views and amazing to explore.
  • Fabulous lodge in a stunning location. Cosy yet spacious, very well equipped, and wonderfully peaceful. Definitely a find.

The Weisdale mill is a short walk away, a restored corn mill from the mid 1800's now the Shetland Arts Bonhoga Gallery and shop selling artisan gifts and design-led goods. A popular cafe is located on the ground floor selling home bakes and the lunch menu features locally sourced products and specialities prepared on the premises. The Weisdale Kirk (Church of Scotland) is surrounded by a lovely garden which was created by local volunteers with the help of the BBC Scotland Beachgrove Garden team and is located across the road from Flideraa.

The cottage itself is cozy and charming and full of thoughtful touches, while still being thoroughly modern. We would definitely stay here again!

Also helped me to get in touch with a distant relative & find a family gravestone before we arrived. Also appreciated thoughtfulness in providing yummy food items. We only stayed two nights. Not long enough! Recommend a longer stay!
