Places to stay in Barbuda
Terracotta is a tastefully appointed two bedroom cottage located at a convenient midpoint between Barbuda's central village and its sprawling coastline.
Last year hurricane Irma hit Barbuda and destroyed much of the property and infrastructure on the island. It has been an extremely slow rebuilding process and most homes/businesses still do not have electricity or running water. The above mentioned is to inform guests that the space has a functional generator on site in order to provide electricity and pump water throughout the house, but cannot be used 24/7. We ask that it is used only when necessary, and for guests to be mindful of the environment.
  • I stayed a few days in the lovely and well tasteful furnished house of Caron. To get in contact with her was very easy. She picked me up at the airport, and had the car ready when I arrived. I had a hard time to get to the island, since the ferry schedule changed. So if you want to be on the save side arriving here on time, I suggest to take the flight. Very convenient and easy. On the way from the tiny airport to the house Caron showed me all the important places near by. The house itself is unbelievable nice and beautiful located. Very quiet, lots of animals (like free donkeys, goats, horses, cows etc.) are all walking passed to the opposite pond next by the house. Most of the time I was just sitting out on the terrace and watching the scenery. I did not feel so relaxed for the last two month I was traveling in the caribbean sea. The house and the outside is such a wonderful place and Caron such a warm hearted person of a host. With the car it was easy to get to the astonishing beaches and explore the rest of the island. Thank you Caron for the wonderful time I had at your place, I will miss that little home and definitely come back to that piece of heaven. Five Star !

  • Don't think twice about booking Caron's place. Go for it. It's a slice of everything Barbuda has to offer. Set facing a pond where wild horses come to water each afternoon, Caron's place is close to the village, is beautifully decorated, and super comfortable. The porch offers a relaxing place to lounge and the kitchen if fully equip for cooking meals. Our family of four (with two small children) were very happy here. Caron helped us with a car rental so we could explore Palmetto Point and Princess Diana Beach. Communication was great and she even picked us up from the dock when we arrived by ferry. Caron is lovely. A positive force. We miss her already! We arrived as friends and left feeling like family. Thank you Caron!!!

  • Caron’s place is super well communicated. She helped us to rent a car and gave us great tips about places to visit, where to eat, buy... She is rebuilding her place with style!

  • Caron is the most lovely host you'll have! Very attentive. Her place is beautiful, perfect for a family vacation. It has everything you'll need for your stay in Barbuda. She can arrange the car rental or taxi for you and goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome. We are definitely staying with her again next year!

  • Our host Caron met us at the airport and showed us the main landmarks of the town/village to get us orientated. Though we hadn't requested it, she organised a car for us which we hadn't realised would be essential to see the island. We had envisaged hiring bikes but we could see after the first day that this wouldn't have been at all practical given the state of the roads! The house was lovely - a very pretty self-contained unit situated in Caron's large garden. We had everything we could need to spend much more time than the two nights we had booked. There is a large veranda, with a cool breeze blowing through it making it an ideal place to sit and relax. And Winston, the very cute dog, gave us a lovely greeting every time we returned! Caron is an attentive and knowledgable host but not at all intrusive. At our request, she arranged for us to go a trip onto the lagoon to see the frigate birds; a must! Barbuda itself is a delight - the village is a riot of goats, horses, sheep, dogs, cats, donkeys, all competing for the road. The beaches are beautiful, and very quiet; the range of birdlife is utterly absorbing, even if you only have a mild interest. There are some excellent eating places too - we would definately recommend the Art cafe. We turned up at their doorstep out of the blue and were treated to a superb brunch, and we later went back for dinner (though this needed to be booked to ensure the food was available) . Also to be recommended are the street food sellers, they are a very tasty alternative to cooking! We would most definately like to go back for a longer stay!

  • Caron is an amazing host: she arranged a car rental for us, she picked us up at the airport, gave us an orientation tour, explained the driving rules on the island, helped us with any questions we had. Her house shares a garden with the Terracotta Cottages, which is very helpful in case of any additional questions, or of an emergency - we had a flat tire situation which she solved in 15 minutes! The house in itself is charming, built in a Caribbean style - large and shady porch, pitched roof, screened windows - and is tastefully decorated and has everything you might need. We visited as a couple, but the house is also perfect for a family, as it has two bedrooms. The location is very good, in the village, but be warned - you need a car to get around the island. If you happen to buy lunch from the guy with the pink grill in the center of the village (highly recommended, very good grilled chicken for under 4 USD, ribs, fish, a variety of side dishes, johnny cakes - all delicious and very good value for the island) Winston the dog and Milly the cat will be delighted to help you with the leftovers. All in all, we had a wonderful time - the island is gorgeous, the beaches are amazing and pretty much empty, the people are friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed staying at the Terracotta Cottage. Thank you Caron!

  • Caron is a lovely host. She goes out of her way to make you feel comfortable in every way. She picked us up at the ferry and had a rental car ready for us (which you absolutely need). Caron and her friend Leva (please forgive possible incorrect spelling) are close by, which was really good. They were good to talk to and they gave us tips and information. The house is lovely. The house is close to the town, which we greatly appreciated because our visits there gave us some insights into the culture of Barbuda. We ate at a little place called Byron's and quite a few Barbudan children hung around and we learned a bit about their schooling. The beaches are not far from the house and they are impossibly lovely. Access Beach aka Princess Di beach is a very beautiful beach. We enjoyed eating at Uncle Roddy's. Taking a boat out to The Frigate Sanctuary with Leva was a highpoint of the trip. The birds were astounding to watch, and Leva knew a lot about their behavior, mating and migration patterns. Ask Caron to set up a tour with Leva. It was also really interesting to talk to Leva about the culture of Barbuda. Along with him, we really hope that Barbuda will be very careful about allowing development. Barbuda at this moment in time is an absolute, unsullied treasure, in nature and culture. I very much hope it can manage to stay that way. Thank you, Caron and Leva.

  • First of all, Caron was the best! As others wrote here, she came to pick us at the ferry port. She transported us with all luggage to her rental house and then took us all for a neighbourhood ride, village tour, where she showed us all interesting places we should know and use for the living in Barbuda. We thought we could stay without car for some day, but you cannot. Everything is far from the house (as from every house of Codrington). Even shopping. Therefore rent a car for sure, Caron helped us and prepared the car in advance right at the ferry dock. Caron is totally reliable, she lives in the same garden but in a house next to the rental house. So she was always close to us for any kind of help we needed. Rental house is in great condition, even better then on photos here. SUV is the only type of car you can use since asphalt roads are only in some parts of Codrington, the rest are sand roads in terrible conditions. Local people are very kind and friendly, few bars, few restaurants but no more services (i.e. no bike rentals,etc.). Boat trips to birds sanctuary are expensive and not worth the money for us (50 USD for approximatelly one hour trip - all you can see is one kind of birds and the lagoon). Much better is to use the boat (again expensive) to take you and evening pickup to the wonderful 17 miles beach which cannot be accessed without boat). We definatelly recommend this accomodation since it had not even one drawback.

Welcome to Barbuda’s first Eco-Glamping site, located on the north east coast of our amazing island, in a place we call Frangipani Corner. We are only 20 minutes from the village, just off the road to Two Foot Bay and on one of the most beautiful spots on the Atlantic side of Barbuda, with 360’ views over the sun setting and the moon rising.
We currently have one furnished wooden Cabana ready to accommodate up to two people. It has shady trees nearby, an outdoor kitchen area, a long drop outdoor toilet and an outdoor shower. We are located in an area of outstanding natural beauty - off the beaten track with no electricity or internet. The views are wonderful with access over a sand dune to the beach where we have a beach hut for picnics with extra shade. The beach is wild and natural but protected by reefs that make swimming safe and exciting. We provide all the basic necessities to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable and give you a chance to reconnect with nature through fishing, canoeing, open fires and just sitting watching the natural wildlife of Barbuda pass you by.
We love living in Barbuda because of the History (Barbudans own land in common) the friendliness of our people and the great outdoors. Barbuda is ideal for children and in particular the camp site where they can spot the magnificent frigate bird and pelicans. Guests are free to build fires in the designated areas and reconnect with nature. Rarely will you spot another person!
  • The place you created is a little paradise for glampers .

  • I was looking for a place to relax and be with nature and this place is just perfect. All the amenities are in a good state and you can tell there has been love and thought put into every detail of the place. The beach is very nice and the tour arrange by Asha and Afiya are very good to get to know more about Barbuda. I have been in Antigua for at least 4 months and I must say Barbuda is stunning and the people is amazing. I brought my own food a cooked there, they have all you need to make a great meal. I wish all the best to Asha and Afiya, I will love to came back.

  • Definitely a MUST do in Barbuda! The place: The place is located in off beaten track . You will be driven to rocky, dusty and bumpy road but as soon as you arrive, you will be greeted with nature at its best. The shack has comfortable bed and pillows. The inside has everything what you need . They provide towels , beach towels, solar lamps, board games, books, snorkel gears, insect repellents and sun tan lotions ( who does that? only in Frangipani). The inside is very well thought out. There is also a kitchen with basic amenities. If you plan to cook buy groceries before going. The area also has hammock, grill place with standing bar table ( which i think is cool) and a look out hill called Tommy Hill where you can hang out witness the sunrise and sunset and have an endless view of the beach down below. It was one of a kind experienced! The Hosts: From the booking to the end of our stay , they were there for us . Excellent communication. They were quick to reply for whatever concerns we have. They even provide you with a cellphone ! ( that’s what you call service). They helped me plan a birthday surprise for my boyfriend and they truly executed it exceptionally. The service that we experienced was far more better than all inclusive resorts. They really are exceptional hosts. Thank you Afiya and Asha!

  • Island Life - a rare chance to enjoy the wild and natural Atlantic coast of Barbuda. This is the perfect place for those looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Asha and Afiya have thought of everything and especially for people like us who prefer the more comfortable side of camping. The Cabana was so comfortable with large double bed and beautiful linen sheets. The room has shutters and mosquito nets and is fitted with solar lights which we appreciated along with the mini speaker and selection of books and board games. There was so much to keep us entertained! The location is very remote and for those wishing to explore the village or island further a vehicle is essential (ask Asha and Afiya to arrange a car rental for you). They left us a local phone in case we needed to get in touch with them which was a kind thought. The open kitchen area had everything required for cooking on the gas rings provided and the chance to make fires and cook on charcoal was available too. We needed the two nights to enjoy all the sea and beach activities provided. There is a beach shelter overlooking the sea (safe swimming in front of the reef). There is a fish pot to catch your own fish and a kayak too. We caught several fish and even made our own fresh fish and chips! Sundowners each evening on Tommy Hill watching the pelicans and frigate birds were a must before an early night. The shower with fresh well water was refreshing at the end of each day and there is even a long drop toilet. Not another person in sight and only the odd donkey for company this has to be one of the most unique places we have ever stayed.

We rent one of our comfortable bedrooms in our family home on Barbuda. It's just a short flight or ferry ride from Antigua and well worth a visit if you are travelling in the Caribbean. We live just outside the only village - Codrington - and we are only ten minutes to the beach by car. Experience local island life with us, whether you are on holiday or working here on Barbuda.
Our house is a newly built, nearly-finished house on the road to Two Foot Bay; a fifteen minute walk from the centre of our only village of Codrington. We have a lot of space inside and a large quiet garden with cooking areas, and a hammock, chairs and shade outside in several places. The whole island suffered catastrophic damage two years ago in Hurricane Irma, and we are slowly returning to normal thanks to our you, our visitors, and some great volunteers. We have four bedrooms and you will share one bathroom (with a shower) with us. We also have a refreshing and natural outdoor shower with unlimited water pumped straight out of our spring well. Our home is a well used, comfortable and family-friendly accommodation, with most of the things you might need for your stay. We have beach supplies, games, fishing equipment, and lots of books. You will have one bedroom with a queen size bed. We provide a help-yourself breakfast and you can cook your own food in our kitchen or outside on the fire, or book lunch or supper with us in the ArtCafe - our small art gallery and cafe. There are bars and food sellers in the village.
Barbuda is a peaceful island, very friendly and welcoming, with only one village. It's completely different to Antigua, and totally unspoilt by globalisation. We are fighting to keep it that way. If you are staying in Antigua it is really worth making the trip to Barbuda for a few nights to experience the unique way of life here. If you are looking for a traditional Caribbean experience and don't mind not having 'attractions', Barbuda is for you. Since Hurricane Irma the island suffered a huge setback as many people lost their homes. Some are still living in tents. But we are still being assisted by international aid agencies and your stay here really makes a difference to us.
  • A visit to Barbuda is more than a holiday. You are immersed in a landscape which is the product of a distinctive agricultural and political heritage more than three hundred years old. Add that to the miles and miles of pristine unoccupied beaches and the distinctive fauna, a fleeting one day visit is not enough. Claire and her family are wonderful hosts and are well set up to ensure you get the most out of your Barbudan experience.

  • Art Cafe is a wonderful rustic friendly family home. The whole family is absolutely amazing, kind, hard workers, and fun to be with. The home is simple and practical and very clean . Asha and Fy, the 2 sisters and daughters of Claire are absolutely 2 beautiful strong women and always there to help you with whatever you need. Then there’s King, Fy’s partner, a nice young man that spent lots of time with my 14 year old son, and their beautiful little toddler girl Ava🥰 was the sugar on top of our vacation🤣 she’s too funny and adorable! Mr Mackenzie (Dad), very nice quiet layback man, but I guess he had no choice but to talk to me quite often, because I talk too much🤣 overall, wonderful place, wonderful family, wonderful home, wonderful Barbuda! The only thing I would do different next time is, skip Antigua and go straight to Barbuda!! Definitely going back💝

  • Claire was extremely helpful and put a lot of effort into making me feel welcome at her house. She has many talents and used them to create a beautiful home and a small shop-business. It was barbudaful! Many thanks.

  • Claire is an incredible host. The room is great to enjoy a few days on the island and learn more about its history, culture and people. Claire explained many things about the island and gave us an amazing treatment. She is a very attentive, helpful and generous person that I recommend without any doubt. This vacation has changed our vision and has marked us forever. So thank you Claire, it's been a fantastic holidays that we will never forget. All the best xx

  • Great, open and honest host who will make what it takes to provide a nice stay. Very useful information and tips are provided and one can also have a great insight into local life and the current situation of the island of Barbuda. I’m very thankful to have stayed at the Art Café.

  • We can’t say enough about Claire and her families hospitality. If you are looking for a true Barbudan experience then this is the perfect place. It was clean, safe, near local amenities and Claire and the whole family were so helpful to us during our whole trip.

  • The Artcafe is a great homestay experience and perfect base camp for exploring Barbuda. Claire and her husband know everyone on the Island, and can aid in arranging tours, give recommendations, and pretty much help you do whatever is you want to do while in Barbuda. The space itself is really interesting, and has lots of unique touches, plus lovely gardens, and some cool farm elements like goats and turtles. Part of the home is a cafe and gift shop, and lunches and dinners are available for purchase. Claire is a great cook. Getting to the village is easy. You can walk the 25 or so minutes, or hire a ride or rent bikes from the Artcafe. Breakfast, great conversations, and rides to and from the airport are included with the room. All in all I highly recommend you stay here.

    Richard2019-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Claire and her family are fantastic hosts. While Barbuda continues to recover from Hurricane Irma (see Claire’s website: barbudaful for the latest), Claire has managed to carve out a wonderful Airbnb experience: a comfortable bed, quiet, starry nights, delicious food, and wonderful conversation and company. She can arrange tours with the best guides and can regale you with her detailed knowledge of community life. Her Airbnb listing is accurate and honest. This is my second time staying with Claire and her family, and it really felt like I was coming home this time! Highly recommend a visit to Barbuda and a stay at this lovely home.
