Quirky, beautiful & self contained holiday let. Cosy converted wash-house, set within grounds of stunning Georgian townhouse in arty, small market town. Gateway to the Peak District National Park. Double bed on sleeping platform. Microwave & toaster
  • The wash house was a gorgeous, bijou hideaway right in the centre of Wirksworth. The garden is beautiful... great for a picnic and glass of wine! Steve was a great host, very friendly and we received a very warm welcome despite getting there quite late. I can't recommend highly enough!

  • We had a lovely few days staying in the Wash House. The weather wasn't great but we found plenty to do in the area, including some rainy walks in the spectacular Peak District landscape. Wirksworth itself is charming and quirky and the Wash House is situated right in the centre of the town. Steve and Sue were impeccable hosts and provided us with brilliant suggestions and advice. We can recommend (as Steve did) the pizza at Gino's and the veggie breakfast at Mercia.

  • We loved staying in the Wash House and it is in such a perfect location. It's beautifully furnished and decorated and the garden is amazing. We had a lovely welcome from Harriet very late at night and the soap and chocolates were a thoughtful touch. It is snug, especially the bed on the sleeping platform, but for a couple of nights it was fine. Thank you!

  • An amazing well thought out wash room conversion. Everything is there that you could possibly need. Very quirky apartment that I would highly recommend. Very welcoming hosts Steve and Sue, they give you all the knowledge of where you can eat and drink and if you follow their recommendations you can't go wrong. Walking distance to everything you need pubs , restaurants and shops. The people are really friendly in the area. We had an amazing weekend on 15th-16th July 2017 and will definitely be back to stay again. Julie and Gary (Irish )

  • We had such a lovely stay at the Washhouse! Steve and Sue were great hosts, Steve took the time to recommend local pubs/restaurants/walks etc and gave us a tour of the room, garden and garage. The garage has a pool table available for use. The photos don't show the bathroom in the Washhouse, there is a small wet room behind the table/beneath the bed with a really good shower. The location is lovely - only 3 or 4 restaurants in walking distance but plenty of pubs and a few takeaways. A short walk behind the house is a fantastic park for walks. Close to Matlock baths and other quirky villages to visit, Matlock vintage shops are fantastic. Brilliant location and a lovely quirky room if you want something a bit different! Feels like sleeping in a den :)

  • Lovely little place - very cozy and quirky. Steve was very helpful and friendly in sharing info about the town and knows the area very well. Courtyard and gardens are just lovely and somewhere you can spend hours in. Will definitely return.

  • We had an idyllic stay at the Wash House. Steve and his wife were absolutely lovely and welcomed us into their stunning home. Everywhere you look, there are objects of beauty. So much care has been taken to create such a comfortable and beautiful home and guest house. The garden was stunning too - in the summer, it would a delight to spend time there. The Wash House was small but perfectly formed with everything you could need. We enjoyed the adventure of climbing up to our snug bed on the mezzanine floor. Wirksworth itself is a wonderful place - the independent cinema, bistro, great pubs and, of course, the gorgeous countryside all around, make it one of our favourite places. We'll certainly be returning to Wirksworth if Steve will have us :)

  • Upon arriving at David & Justines we immediately felt that it was a home. They have an amazing little doggy - Ted who we became immediately obsessed with! He's very well behaved and brilliantly cute! Each morning started with breakfast all laid out for us, looking out in to the garden with fruit, granola - (homemade no less), pastries, toast & jam, Justines full cooked breakfast with the most fantasic bacon and eggs only a couple hours old. Our room was great with everything you could need for a home away from home. Mini fridge, teas, hot chocolate & coffees, nice towels, shower essentials, TV, comfy bed. It was all present and correct. 10/10 on all aspects, we would most definitely stay with David & Justine again.

    Oliver2016-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • Justine and David were fantastic hosts and made Holly and myself very welcome. Their house is amazing and the private annex is lovely. Everything was very clean, the bed was comfortable and water, tea/coffee and milk was in the room/mini fridge. The shower was nice and hot. They even baked me a special birthday cake which was a lovely though and very tasty! Thank you very much. The breakfast in the morning was incredible, with warm paste ties, fresh fruit, fresh juices, cereals and hot food. Overall, great hosts and a great place to stay.

    Ollie2016-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely large house which is quiet, spacious, roomy and welcoming. The owners are warm and keen to make your stay perfect. It's an idyllic place to stay and you will quite possibly wish to extend your stay!

    Nick2017-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • Another great stay with David & Justine. Great hospitality and the room was spotless. Look forward to staying again in the future if the situation requires.

    Ryan2016-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • David and Justine were great hosts right from when we made enquiries about the appartment. Very informative, helpful and friendly. A perfect location either for business or visiting family. Both of the guests we booked the appartment for commented on the feel of luxury and comfort and on the quality of bacon at breakfast! We will certainly be stopping here again.

    Cathy2016-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • Staying with Justine and David and meeting their four amazing children was such an unexpected highlight of our trip to the Peak District! The room was clean and cozy, private and quiet, every need was met in an instant and the breakfast the next morning was absolutely scrumptious! I had a few questions and they answered them swiftly and happily. They were there to meet us when we arrived and provided suggestions on where to eat and extra things we could do. I have nothing but the highest regard for this family and our experience in the private suite we were able to stay in. Thank you SO much! We hope to see you again soon. x

  • Breakfast was amazing. Beautiful house in wonderful setting!

    Jessica2017-04-10T00:00:00Z
  • Justine warmly welcomed us and took us into her beautiful home. Very large grand rooms that were warm and cosy too. Very homely with their little Teddy dog greeting us and the lovely sound of the children playing the piano, yet the en-suite bedrooms were peaceful and quiet. I enjoyed a good nights sleep as the location of the property is in a very peaceful area. Wonderful breakfast with fresh fruit and free range eggs....perfect!

The smaller of the two 18th century conversions, but no less charming. Beautifully designed & warmly welcoming - a little boho bolt hole. Double bed is on a sleeping platform. Wet room, & kitchen facilities including microwave, toaster & kettle.
Historic conversions within the wild beauty of the Peak District.
Wirksworth is a vibrant, arty market town with great pubs and restaurants. It boasts a number of independent shops including vintage and antique shops, delis and coffee shops. Within 2 minutes of open countryside.
  • We had an absolutely wonderful stay at The Brew House. The house was unbelievably cosy and picturesque, romantic, charming, clean and came with a beautiful garden, which included a secret passage. Steve and his wife were extremely welcoming and friendly, even when I spilled my coffee over their lovely cushions! We had our own keys so could come and go as we pleased and the local area was absolutely perfect - beautiful views, great pubs and ideally located in the Peak District. We'll definitely be going back soon!

    Katie2015-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay in Wirksworth and Steve's accommodation suited us well. It is small and cosy but everything needed is provided. Steve met us and showed us around, accommodating our bikes safely in the garage. We didn't have any problems during our stay and would have no hesitation in recommending The Brew House for a short stay in the Peak District.

    Jo2016-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Steve and Sue offer a warm welcome to their beautiful home and garden. The Brew House is a lovely little bolthole in a quirky and interesting town. I wish I could have stayed more than one night! I'll be back soon, I hope, to try the restaurants and pubs that Steve recommended and will definitely book The Brew House again.

  • Steve was very welcoming and showed us around. He gave us ideas of where to go and what to do whilst in Wirksworth. The brew house house is a fantastic little place. It's very cosy and has everything you need. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely like to come back in the summer

    Annie2016-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • Steve was a most gracious host from welcome, to settling us in and advising on places to eat. The Brew House was a little gem. Beautifully furnished with a quality finish. 5* touches everywhere. Peace itself in a delightful little town.

    Dee2015-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • Steve's place is in the most perfect location with nearby parking. Warm welcome was received and ideal of a wedding we were attending nearby. Would love to come back.

  • The Brew House is a tiny but beautiful place to stay. We had a lovely sunny weekend exploring the local area - it couldn't have been better! The walled garden, with its amazing swing,is a place you'd expect to see fairies - a lovely place to while away an hour or two with a cup of tea or a glass of wine. Steve is charming and helpful and a generally delightful host.

Semi-detached house set back from road and situated within a minute's walk of bus routes to city centre -two miles away- and Matlock, Bakewell and Buxton. Within easy reach of Nottingham and Sheffield. Attractive garden, off road parking.
My house is 5 minutes walk away from, arguably, the most beautiful park in Derby which has an 18 hole golf course. Breadsall Priory Golf Club is 10 minutes drive away. The Quad cinema and Derby Theatre are within easy reach. There are excellent cycle trails nearby and Derbyshire is renowned for for walking and rock-climbing opportunities. There isn't a television in the bedroom but I am happy for guests to use the lounge. Also, there are no problems concerning the use of the kitchen.
  • Great stay! Zena was sooo nice. It was a flying visit on my side and so we didn't get much chance to chat. Could have talked for hours. Maybe next time :))) Delicious Granola for breakfast

    Mark2014-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • Zena was ever so welcoming and accommodating. The beautiful room with plenty of space was just perfect for me in my jet-lagged state. The breakfast was nutritious and delicious, as was the conversation. Highly recommended.

    Dave2014-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Zena made me feel so welcome, I'm very glad I found her for my trip. She made me food which was unexpected and greatly appreciated. She made me feel very at home. I really enjoyed our conversations, the room was very comfortable indeed. Highly recommended. Zena had clearly read my profile and she was keen to fulfil my needs which was very heartwarming. A truly wonderful host - thank you Zena!

    Felicity2015-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Zena is the perfect host. The enormous bedroom, very comfy bed, convenient location, and perfectly-judged scrambled eggs made for a textbook airbnb stopover in Derby. I only wish that I'd had time to explore the bottomless and very lovely garden. Cannot recommend highly enough. Thank you Zena.

    Simon2014-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • A delightful stay. Zena was very welcoming and provided an ample healthy breakfast.

  • I knew the location and expected it to be good, and it did not disappoint. One of the best areas of Derby, a lovely house, and a very welcoming and friendly host! Perfect.

  • Zena's place was very clean and nicely decorated, as in the photos. We had a very comfy stay, and Zena was very nice to talk to, and helpful. Unfortunately my partner and I had to arrive late and leave early in the morning, but Zena was very accommodating about this which was much appreciated. Overall, excellent value for money and a lovely friendly place to stay!

  • Wonderful apartment to stay in with an equally welcoming host. Enjoyed the beautiful outdoor roof terrace in the summer heat and cannot even begin to say what an amazingly friendly and quaint town this is. The local pub is a gem, as is the stunning mid-century designed independent cinema that has just opened up this month. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again!

  • We did not meet Sylvia but she left us clear and helpful instructions. The Coach House is exactly as it looks in the pictures - it was spacious, fun and quirky. The house was a fantastic base for exploring the area, and the area itself was lovely. I had read in another review that the bed was the most comfortable they've ever slept in, and we agree. The kitchen had various useful tools and appliances, and local information and walking maps were left for our use, which was very much appreciated. Overall it was a lovely stay and we would definitely recommend it.

    Rowan2016-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic stay in the Coach House at the weekend. The flat is full of character and charm, has a great atmosphere, it's well presented, clean and tidy and we would not only recommend it to everyone but we would like to go back one day. Sylvia is a lovely host and even though couldn't be there to meet us, she left easy instructions for collecting the key and also gave us recommendations of things to do in the town. Thank you Sylvia for making our stay so easy and uncomplicated. Wirksworth is a charming little town and the flat is located perfectly in it. We're looking forward to returning x

    Fran2016-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at Sylvia's property. The pictures do not do it justice, all of the furnishings, utensils, amenities are of the highest standard. Maps of the village, area and different walking routes are all provided. Sylvia was really easy to communicate with and suggested places to eat and visit near by. We will be returning for sure.

    Alan2016-04-11T00:00:00Z
  • Sylvia was very polite and helpful and the coach house was a lovely place to stay (if a little hard to find!). Sylvia recommended several walks and places to eat to us which we found very helpful. All in all I would definitely recommend!

  • Beautiful coach house full of character. Wirksworth is a beautiful little town, highly recommend a restaurant called Le Mistral (the downstairs is really cosy). Sylvia was nothing but helpful, and gave me a detailed description of everything we needed. Would love to stay here again, 10/10.

We have recently finished converting our barn into a light and clean holiday home, ideal for families or a group of friends. Set in the village of Holbrook which has great access to both the city centres of Derby and Nottingham or the beautiful countryside within the Peak District national park. Holbrook also offers a local shop, post office and two real ale pubs, all within a two minute walk.
  • Loved our stay ! Lovely converted barn, clean, tastefully decorated, well equipped for families. Lovely location with great views and the added bonus of visits from the chickens and saying hi to the horses in the paddocks. Lizzie was very accommodating and helpful.

    Alan2017-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely place to stay! You won't be disappointed. The barn was very modern inside, plenty of room for 4 adults plus our little dog! It is worth a walk to The Spotted Cow local pub! Communication with the owner was really easy.

    Leanne2017-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovely and comfortable place. Super clean, easy to find and everything was working and set out as expected. Felt like a home from home and due to the weather we enjoyed chilling out at the barn all weekend. Walked round the corner to a nice pub and it was a nice and quiet spot in the countryside.

    Sara2017-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay here! Gorgeous place, great location & lovely hosts. The place is lovely & quiet which made for a relaxing stay. We loved the chickens & Elvis the cat too.

  • We had such a relaxed peaceful time. We loved exploring the Derbyshire countryside & interacting with the chickens, horses & Elvis the cat. Lizzie & Caroline we so welcoming, even making sure there was a thoughtful welcome gift of special Gluten Free cake & biscuits! We felt so privileged to be amongst some of the first guests to visit Boothswood Barn! The cottage is gorgeous, thoughtfully & beautifully appointed & decorated, cosy, comfy & homely. We look forward to returning soon!

    melissa2017-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful stay at this warm, cosy, freshly decorated barn. Exactly as described! Such a relaxing weekend-can't wait to return!

    Emer2017-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Boothswood Barn is a lovely place to stay. It's newly renovated and beautifully furnished, so clean, comfortable and well equipped. Lizzie is a great host and was warm and welcoming. Our only regret was that we didn't stay longer!

    Steve2017-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • We went for the weekend as a group of 5; the converted barn is fantastic inside with 2 big bedrooms, a sofa bed and kitchen. The location is great and very scenic; there are walks in Derbyshire countryside available either from your doorstep or a 5/10 minute drive away and Lizzie was very helpful in giving us a list of great walks to do. The village itself is also really nice with a couple of good pubs and a shop located within easy walking distance. Would highly recommend to groups of friends or families looking to stay there; it was a fantastic weekend and we'd certainly stay again.

  • Great place to stay, lovely hosts, excellent food and real ale, spotlessly clean . The air conditioning unit under the window is a tad noisy but overall brilliant place to stay. Kind regards Mike and Jean

  • A spacious and very comfortable room. It is not directly above the bar so is reasonably quiet. A very friendly community pub, the room is worth using just for The Spotted Cow.

Mill cottage built in 1795 in the Derwent Valley World Heritage Site. Pubs, restaurants, country walks and the train station within walking distance. A perfect place to have a relaxing break. Feel like you've stepped back in time. No need for a car due to its easy accessibility. Great individual shops. Easy access to Chatsworth,Matlock, Bakewell,Gullivers World and Alton Towers.
This beautiful cottage has 3 floors and really is a home from home. There are traditional fireplaces and wooden beams so you really feel like you have stepped back in time. The lounge has a wood burner making it a cosy place to relax. There is a TV, DVD player, iPod player and a selection of DVD's and boardgames. There is a separate dining area and a fully equipped kitchen containing a gas hob and electric oven, microwave, toaster, toasted sandwich maker, bread maker and plenty of pans, cutlery and local Denby crockery. There are also flasks available to take on your country walks. Tea , coffee and biscuits are available and a carton of longlife milk so you can get the kettle on as soon as you arrive. The large bathroom on the first floor has a long bath with an overhead shower. There is an electric macerator toilet and therefore care must be taken to only put toilet paper in it otherwise it will break and there will be a charge to repair it. There is also a toilet downstairs in the out house area. The bedrooms are large situated on the first and second floors. Both have a double bed and there are 2 additional full size double Aerobeds available that can be put in each room on request and at an additional cost. There is also a travel cot available however bedding is not provided. Both bedrooms have a radio and one bedroom has a small TV. Information leaflets are available to plan your activities and make the most of all that there is to do in the local area. There are reading books as well as walking books and maps so you can fully explore the area. A washing machine is also available should need to wash any muddy clothes after a country ramble. There is full use of the garden and plenty of garden furniture so that alfresco dining can be enjoyed. WiFi is available.
Belper is a beautiful, friendly town with many independent shops such as an artisian bakery and a fabulous deli / cafe called Fresh Basil that I recommend for breakfast. There are a number of pubs within walking distance including the George and Dragon that has live music on a Friday and Saturday night. There are a great range of restaurants - Chinese, Thai, Italian, Indian, Tapas, carvery and numerous tea rooms. Belper also has the lovely independent Ritz cinema ( I recommend booking this in advance if you want to go - its worth it). There is local park with a childrens play area and row boat hire is available in the summer. The Peak district is on your doorstep, close to Chatsworth, Matlock, Ashbourne, Bakewell and Castleton where the famous Blue John Caves are making it a good base for walkers cyclists caving and rock climbing or if you are visiting Alton Towers. The Matlock Light Show in the Autumn is a short train journey from Belper. It may also be of interest if you have a business trip in Derby but don't want to stay in the city or working at Glowworm/Valliant or D S Smith that are close by.
  • Lovely cottage located near lovely pubs and restaurants. Lots of countryside walks accessible from the house. Owner has provided everything you could need. Would definitely use again.

  • we had a really relaxing weekend here and were treated to amazing sunshine too! The cottage is very cosy & relaxed and on a lovely street....very bumpy large flag stone cobbles! The River Gardens park (right at bottom of street, cross road to the mill, stay right) was a mega hit with the kids! A great contemporary art gallery on Campell street open on Fri & Sat.

Rosemary Cottage is situated on the edge of the Peak District National Park with easy access to both Belper and Ashbourne. Shottle Hall is a short distance away with Kedleston Hall also in the vicinity. My son Ben and I think our cottage is lovely. It was built in 1845, is a cosy home with wood burning stoves and is ideal for walkers and visitors to the area who come to enjoy the marvellous countryside views. The pubs in the village all provide meals with the possibility to sit outside.
I hope you enjoy a good night's sleep. In this comfortable double room the bed is adjustable and the mattress made of pure natural latex. The cosy duvets are made of 90% goose down, 10% feathers. As in Europe, instead of a double, 2 single duvets are also available as well as contour pillows and blankets if guests prefer. A single bed in a separate bedroom is available, but only as part of the same group, either as a third person or two people preferring separate rooms. For guests with allergies, please be aware that occasionally a cat, with the name of Smudge, also stays at Rosemary Cottage. Off road parking is available and bicycles can be stored in the locked garage. For walkers, there are many public footpaths in Turnditch, one footpath is located next to the cottage giving easy access to those who enjoy rambling along the country lanes.
Turnditch is a charming village situated on the edge of the Peak District National Park, close to Carsington Water and Ashbourne. A 30 minute drive takes you to Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Matlock Bath to name a few, as well as Bakewell, the home of the famous pudding. There is an adventure park with paintballing and quad biking just 15 minutes drive away for those who wish to be a bit more adventurous.
  • Kristina is a lovely lady who was a nice and very helpful host made feel like staying in a never seen cousin/auntie's house. All house was very clean and gives many benefits to us as separate room for our daughter or store my bike in the garage. Highly recommended...

    Norbert2017-04-10T00:00:00Z
  • Beatiful cottage. Kristina was very warm, welcoming and friendly. All of our expectations were exceeded. If there was anything we needed or asked for, Kristina couldn't do enough to help us. We couldn't fault our stay in any way and wouldn't hesitate to stay again if we're in the area.

    Jonathan2017-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • Kristina was a great host. Easy to talk to and very thoughtful - she went the extra mile to cater for us and tailored our stay to meet our needs. We had a very yummy continental breakfast provided each morning and the bed was super comfortable. The accommodation was close to Shottle hall where we were attending a wedding. Thank you Kristina!

  • Kristina is a very warm and friendly host who is always willing to go the extra mile for her her guests. Her home is clean and welcoming. It is worth being aware that the local taxi service is sparse, so advise to plan ahead if needing transport around the local areas. There is quite a lot of road noise at the cottage during the day, again worth being aware of if wanting a peaceful retreat. The only other thing was that we were not given a key, meaning that we could only access the house when the host was at home, and on one occasion we returned to find her out which meant we could not get to our room or belongings.

    Doug2017-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • Kristina is a wonderful host, from the moment you get in touch she is helpful and kind and nothing is too much trouble. When you step through the door you feel welcomed and relaxed in her beautiful home. I would highly recommend.

    Charlotte2017-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • Very comfortable. Kristina looks after guests very well catering to individual requests.

    jeremy2017-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • Kristina made us very welcome in her cosy cottage. Although there is some traffic noise in the mornings this did not prevent us from having a very comfortable stay. The bed is super cosy and Kristina even provided us with lovely robes. Everything is immaculately clean, with some nice extra touches ( scented candles, log fire to welcome us) and we enjoyed chatting with Kristina over our breakfast coffee and croissants!

    Alison2017-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is perfect if you want a quiet, relaxing stay in a beautiful part of England. Ashbourne is a short drive away with a large variety of restaurants and shops available and Rosemary Cottage is just fantastic. Kristina and Ben were very friendly and accommodating, the bed is ridiculously comfortable, so much so you may struggle getting up in the morning to enjoy warm croissants and tea. Lovely addition of a private bathroom make this a first class option. We would highly recommend. Many thanks again to Kristina and Bentley.

Derby is 20 minutes drive and there is also a bus route close to the house.
Snowdrop Valley is a quiet unmade country lane, only serving a handful of properties. It is also only 5 minutes walk from the village centre, where you will find a mini-market, cafe, bakery, restaurant, post office and hairdressers. There are also a couple of pubs and churches within the village as well as a medical centre and The Glebe community centre with a variety of activities going on. There are lovely country walks with footpaths starting just 100 yards from the house and as Crich is set on top of a hill, there are nice views of the the area from many places in and around the house and village.
  • The house is clean and comfortable. It's really quiet here. It's a nice place to live. Since there is only one bathroom, it's a little inconvenient to us. Althogh the bedrooms and the kitchenn is a little small, they are useful. What's more, John is such a friendly man that we have a good time with him.

My house is just a short stroll into the great little town of Wirksworth where so many things happen.... good pubs, Italian and French food, lanes to explore, 52 seater cinema, not to mention Farmers' markets and the famous Festival in September. Come and see!
The double room is small but with use of your own shower room and toilet, good rates for single people (£30) as well. I will provide cereals and toast for a simple breakfast or you can get something more elaborate in town. Good coffee shops and cafes. There is the indoor space and outdoor space to enjoy as well. I'm happy to offer advice and suggestions if you need any help.
People who visit Wirksworth very often want to move here. It is unique and catches the imagination offering a rural setting with good access to great facilities. The sense of friendly community is often remarked upon. Like cycling? There are plenty of great routes from the doorstep for roadies and mountain bikers. Visit Carsington Reservoir, National Trust properties + Chatsworth, the famous Bakewell Market and pudding shop, nearby Ashbourne plus walks and trails galore.
  • Very enjoyable stay. Vicki was extremely welcoming and I would definitely return.

  • I booked Vickys room for a couple of friends and the collie for a trip to Derbyshire. Vicky was extremely warm and accommodating. The houae is in a great location with views across Wirksworth. The home cooked spelt bread and log burner in the living rokm were lovely touches which my friends really enjoyed.

  • Vicky's house is beautifully place for access to all parts of the Peak District. The town of Wirksworth is a hidden gem and certainly worth exploring. Sghe is able to accommodate either 1 or 2 in a double room [with private bathroom] or for a bigger group to take over the whole house. A shame I only needed to be there for one night!

    Michael2017-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful few days at Vicki's place in Wirksworth. Vicki goes well beyond what is expected of a airbnb host. We felt so relaxed & at home. Vicki has a very warm & embracing personality and loves to chat & pass on her local knowledge. The location is very close to the town & has great access to walks & trails. highly recommend this accommodation.

    Eric2017-03-21T00:00:00Z
  • This was my first AirBnB experience, and 'Vicky experience. convinced my about the concept - and I'll happily do more airbnb, if all future stayings will be similar. Vicky is a very warm and open host, generous with the space offered and with the access to normal homely facilities - within minutes one feels like at home. The front of the house is a 'normal' modern town development - detached, bungalow-like houses, all trimmed and proper; but the fun starts at the back, and her property has immediate access to a pasture (literally! :-)), and a nice walk to town, on grassy paths and later narrow lanes. Wirksworth is something special, and an interesting mixture of "town" (the olde mining traditions!) and "gown" (the professional and arty people, 'taking over' the town from the centre!) - all worth experiencing. All in all - a short (only 2 nights) but very worthwhile experience, very much facilitated by Vicky's hosting talents.

Our house is situated on the edge of Wirksworth in Millers Green, its 15 – 20 minute stroll into the centre of town either over the fields along a well-defined footpath or along the road. It is in a private cul-de- sac of just four houses so does not suffer from any traffic noise.
The guest bedroom which has one double bed is an excellent size with wonderful views of the rolling Derbyshire countryside. There is a wardrobe and drawers available for you to use, there is also tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The separate newly renovated bathroom is for your private use. Our conservatory is lovely place to sit and watch the sun go down over the hills in the summer. Our garden is very colourful during the summer months and is constantly evolving, and provides another lovely place to sit and relax - bring your own wine and use our outdoor furniture for a ‘chill out’ evening. We will provide a simple breakfast of juice, cereals, toast, fruit and yogurt along with preserves (all homemade where possible). You can also use our kitchen for the preparation and cooking of evening meals (by arrangement so were not falling over ourselves). If you wanted to eat in from the local take outs or have a simple supper or lunch of cheese, bread and wine etc. (there is a bakery & deli in the center of Wirksworth which offer delightful treats) then we’ll make crockery, cutlery, glasses and space available for your use.
Wirksworth is a fairly unique and historic town full of odd nooks and crannies and the ancient and fascinating church of St Mary nestles in its small cathedral-like precinct in the centre. It has many independent shops and coffee / tea establishments. There are a number of fine pubs, some serving meals. There is also a splendid French style bistro (La Minstrel) which opens daily - advanced bookings are recommended for weekends. A little further afield many of the surrounding villages also offer additional fine dining. Wirksworth has a fuel filling station and a large Co-Op. Wirksworth also has its own heritage railway (The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway) who operate passenger services on the line between Wirksworth and Duffield mainly using heritage diesel railcars and occasionally steam locomotives. The town has well-dressings during Whitson week, and every September there is the unusual ceremony of 'Clypping', in which the church is encircled by the congregation holding hands around it. Wirksworth has the well-known Arts Festival, which happens over a September weekend. The Festival includes all forms of Art, with the Market Square the centre for music, dance and street acts while many of the houses around the village play host to many different forms of artistic expression. Tours and tour maps can be bought in the local shops during the festival. Being on the edge of the Peak District National Park and the White Peak there are many fine walks available to suit all abilities and a number can be done from our front door. Carsington Reservoir circular track is within a 30 minute walk of our home as is the traffic free High Peak trail which is suitable for walking and cycling (cycle hire is available locally). Famous Dovedale with its ‘stepping stones’ is only a short drive away. For the more energetic the gritstone edges and wild moors of the Dark Peak are only a 50 minute drive away. The historic town of Bakewell, the stately homes of Haddon Hall, Chatsworth House and Kedleston Hall are all within 30 minutes by car. Matlock and Matlock Bath with its cable car to the Heights of Abraham a short 10 minute drive. The National Stone Centre, Derbyshire Eco Centre and the Mount Cook Adventure Centre also have their homes in Wirksworth.
  • Andrew and Sue are friendly, welcoming hosts. The facilities were of a very high standard and breakfast was a wonderful spread. They had lots of suggestions about what to do and see in the area. I enjoyed my stay there very much and would highly recommend their home as a great place to stay.

The house is lovely and breakfast (and the variety of homemade preserves) was great. Would definitely come back again!

  • We had a brilliant time. Sue is an excellent hostess and obviously enjoys having guests - she was welcoming, enthusiastic, cheerful, full of advice and made our whole visit an absolute pleasure. She's also a great jam and preserve maker!!! Sue gave us loads of information about local walks, places to eat and pubs to visit as well as the folder of information in our room. Our room was large with ample wardrobe and drawer space. The bed was comfortable and warm. The private bathroom is spotless; towels, shampoo and lotions were all provided. Sue even made space in her fridge for our cheeses.

    Kate2017-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Andy and Sue were absolutely ideal hosts for my first Airbnb experience. I arrived a little late, soaking wet and starving and they took me right in and made me feel at home immediately. Their house is a really cozy, homey, and tasteful space which was immaculately clean and well prepared for a guest. The room itself was set up a like a little hotel room with tea and coffee, an extra charging dock for electronics, and a really thoughtfully written guidebook to the local area as well as an assortment of pamphlets for local attractions. Sue and Andy were amazing to chat with in the evening, (make sure to ask them about their diving experiences!) and were really invested in making sure I had the right knowledge of the are to take full advantage of my time here. They are really outdoorsy people and know all about the best hiking routes! In the morning Sue made an incredible breakfast with lots of fruit and preserves from their garden, which was the perfect start to the day. Overall, it was a stellar visit and I can't wait to be back! Thanks Sue and Andy :)

We converted The Sidings next to our home and we hope you will be as pleased as we are with the deceptive spaciousness that gives you a downstairs with a lounge area and kitchen and a cosy wood burning stove and an upstairs with a double bedroom and en suite shower, washbasin and toilet as well as a heated towel rail. There are also two electric heaters if you need a bit of instant heat. The kitchen has a fridge with a freezer compartment and there is a full fan oven and three burner induction hob as well as a microwave. It is a compact little place, so do come prepared for a bijou holiday home not a mansion! Ideally, it’s for a couple but there is a double bed futon for emergency flexible sleeping arrangements but it does restrict your space downstairs and is heavy to manoeuvre so we don't recommend it. Just a word of warning, there is restricted access to the far side of the comfy double bed upstairs in the eaves and you do have to duck your head to get in and out on that side. We think we’ve thought of everything you need in our little hideaway, but do let us know if there’s something we’ve forgotten and we’ll do our best to provide it for you. We know how annoying it is to have to pack absolutely everything for a few days away, so we will provide a hair dryer, shampoo and conditioner, cooking oil and herbs and things like that. We’ll send you a full list when you book so you can minimise that packing. Outside, there is a seating area where you can sit and enjoy the peace of this tucked away corner of Wirksworth. Occasionally, you may spot the heritage railway that runs behind our house. Don’t worry, it’s charming and not intrusive and you could take a trip on it yourself from the town! We will be on hand to help you find your way round the area and we have lots of ideas for you to spend your time with us.
Wirksworth itself is known as “Quirksworth” and be warned, you may, like so many of us, fall in love with it. We always say Wirksworth is not a place to just live, it is a vocation! It is a very special small town that has a reputation for being a creative environment that has lured artists, designers and media people, but it also has a real heart, built during its years as a lead mining town. If you come in September, you can experience the fabulous Wirksworth Festival. In June, we have Open Gardens. Actually, there's something on most weekends! You can wander around the little ginnels that make up the Puzzle Gardens with their charming houses, walk up to the Stardisc with spectacular views, visit the 700 year old Tuesday market or the monthly farmers’ market (1st Sat in the month). You can visit the Heritage Centre, the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, and the Derwent Valley World Heritage Site. You can walk the fabulous paths around the surrounding hills from your doorstep or you can wander into town to visit the pubs, restaurants and cafes- we send you more info on places to go when you book. There’s also a small community swimming pool and a leisure centre with a climbing wall. Further afield, you can spend a day at Bakewell, Alton Towers, Kedleston, Haddon Hall or Chatsworth or visit Scarthin’s Books, an old fashioned, amazing treasure trove of a bookshop. wander the lovely streets of Ashbourne, go up the cable car to Abraham Heights to see breathtaking views and do water sports at Carsington Reservoir…all within a short drive of Wirksworth. One thing is for sure, you will hear “Hello me duck” from every passing stranger who will smile and make you feel at home. Or, you can just sit in the window seat in the Sidings and gaze out on the Gilkin hills or curl up with a good book on the comfy futon, or watch a film cuddled up in front of the wood burning stove. You decide, it’s your holiday!
  • I cannot recommend The Sidings enough! We had such a lovely weekend staying here. The Sidings is finished to a very high standard - modern and bright throughout. The little touches Shirley made on arrival made our stay very comfortable and she was more than happy to give advice on things to do, see and eat! Wirksworth is a lovely little village and a great location to explore the surrounding area as well. Planning our next trip back!

    Gemma2015-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Shirley was a great host, very welcoming, also left some fresh bread and homemade biscuits for our arrival. What could be better then that!

    Christian2016-06-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had the most fabulous time in this gorgeous home. Shirley was so kind and had thought of every possible detail to make our trip easy. We cannot wait to visit again. (And hopefully again and again!!!). Fabulous house in a fabulous location. Thank you so much for our wonderful trip.

  • Having just returned from an absolutely fantastic two night stay at The Sidings, I would like to once again say many thanks to Shirley & Kevin. The consummate hosts, they provided things like bread and milk on arrival which is a great touch, and you get the feeling that nothing would be too much trouble for these lovely people. The house itself may be small but it has a big heart and contains more than everything you need for your stay, with cleaver touches and cosyness abound. The location is also great as you can be in town in approximately a 5-10 minute wander, and your hosts will be able to give you lots of tips of where you might like to go and have a drink and/or something to eat in Wirksworth. Highly recommended! We hope to be back again soon.

  • Shirley's place is a hidden gem in a special corner of the world! We went without a car and genuinely didn't need one - Kevin kindly collected us from the local station, although there are reliable taxi companies and very good local bus routes to a variety of destinations from outside the door. There are plenty of lovely cafes in Wirksworth which is quirky and interesting, our highlights were beautiful walks from the doorstep (both long and short), a trip to the independent cinema and excellent food from the local deli! The Sidings is beautifully kept with attention to detail that was very much appreciated - fresh flowers and refreshments to greet us on arrival. We were so comfortable we just wanted to stay in to cook in the evenings and enjoy the wonderful accommodation! Thank you for your hospitality. We would highly recommend.

    Marianne2017-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic stay at The Sidings, Shirley and Kevin are so friendly and made us feel really welcome, giving us lots of tips, walks, things to do in the local area and beyond. The place is clean and cosy and finished to a high standard. A short walk in to the village where there are cute cafes and shops, a really pleasant place. Shirley had left us bread and milk which was a lovely touch and much needed after our journey... would really recommend a stay here, perfect for a weekend get-away to the countryside with the perfect hosts! Thank you, Becky & Matt

    Rebecca2015-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • Shirley and Kevin were great hosts. The weekend welcome pack was very thoughtful and everything we needed was provided. The vase of garden snowdrops was a lovely sight.

  • We loved our stay. Wirksworth is a lovely place. The house was in a quiet spot maybe 5-8 minutes walk from the town. The house was really nicely finished and everything was beautifully clean when we arrived. It is smaller than it appears in the pictures. We had a great stay and would come back.

  • Tiina was very accommodating to our needs and provided excellent communication. We booked at very short notice and were made to feel welcome right from the start. The cottage was very cute and immaculate throughout with an extremely well equipped kitchen which meant we were able to cook in. Our visit to Chatsworth House and farm shop and a cycle around Carssington reservoir added to our positive experience.

    Deborah2015-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • This property is as pictured, a hillside location in a beautiful area. To get to the cottage, you have a steep hill to climb and is a rather small cottage, but aside from that, we were very happy with the location and enjoyed our time here.

    James2015-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful retreat, with delightful views over Wirksworth. Tiina was an excellent host, even came to show us to the cottage in the dark and cold. The cottage is beautifully decorated and stocked to a high standard with everything you need. Just a shame we were only here for two days!

    David2015-11-28T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage in beautiful setting, perfect for country walks and visiting the Peaks. Really delightfully decorated cottage, with thoughtful inclusions and everything you could possibly need - and importantly shower was very good! About a 10/15min to the centre of Wirksworth, which has a fantastic French restaurant (that we visited twice!). (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN)maps gets you pretty much there - hard to see the church from written instructions, it's just the corner of the road with tons of huge trees. Thanks Tiina for a lovely stay!

    Louise2016-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was just right. Friendly e mails, a welcoming note etc. the accommodation was beautifully set out and maintained. The situation was superb, with wonderful views across the valley. The terrace outside caught all of the sun, of which there was a lot!

Within our red brick courtyard, Old Croft Stables is an unique, stand alone, period loft style apartment which easily accommodates 4 guests. Conveniently close to the stunning Derbyshire Peak District and the historical city of Derby.
Old Croft Stables combines a rural setting with open plan, modern and spacious living. It has original features such as wooden ceiling beams and panelled doors whilst at the same time, the feel of an New York loft apartment.
Quarndon is a village which lies four miles north of Derby city centre. Kedleston Hall, a N.T property is only half a mile away from Old Croft Stables. There are many pleasant walks through country lanes around Quarndon and we have special Boot Room for all your muddy boots at Old Croft Stables!
  • We had a fantastic stay at the Old Croft. Clean, modern, spacious and light; it offered just what we needed. The whole property is finished to a high standard and everything you could need for your comfort is provided (blankets and hot water bottles!). I will certainly be back! Angela was a wonderful and attentive host, even offering to pick us up some dinner from a Thai restaurant she recommended to us. We declined only because we'd eaten far too much at the Joiners Arms which was a brilliant gastropub a short distance away! Breakfast consisted of toast, warm croissants and fruit. Generous portions and very filling. Whilst it would have been handy to have had cooking facilities (a kitchenette with fridge, kettle and sink is provided) we didn't need it on this occasion.

    Reeds2016-11-21T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely lovely place to stay. Extremely clean and perfect for a two day mid week stay. Plenty of room for three. Angela the host was wonderful and made my first Airbnb experience very easy and hassle free.

  • A stylish, comfortable and interesting place to stay. My friends and I had a great time relaxing in the converted stables. A pretty area, easy to get to, peaceful and scenic. There are lovely walks nearby, interesting places to visit and some great local pubs. Thank you to Angela for a wonderful weekend and being a fabulous host.

  • Perfect! Angela was fabulous, the accomodation was fabulous, the breakfast was delicious and the location delightful. Thanks Angela x

  • Clean and well designed house! Angela is very helpful and nice, prepared us lovely breakfast. We did enjoy the night very much!

    Yujie2015-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • A stylish, spacious and interesting property adjacent to the owner's house, very well appointed and with lots of interesting vintage film posters on the wall and books everywhere. Angela was very welcoming, and we very much enjoyed our stay. There is an excellent (and very popular) pub within a few minutes walk with excellent food (the sharing rib eye on the bone was incredible!) and real ale. Ideal for a couple or family, but the lack of privacy for the twin bedroom, open plan to the stairs and with the double bedroom leading off, may be of concern to some. A thoroughly recommendable place to stay!

    Graham2017-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Angela was so helpful! She directed us to good places both local and further afield. Breakfast was delicious too! Old Croft was perfect for what we needed. (And she even let us know we'd forgotten something and made time for us to come to collect it.)

    Sophie2016-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic stylish accommodation. The host, Angela couldn't do more to make my stay more comfortable. A quiet location with secure parking and stunning views of the main garden. A good, generous continental breakfast with a lovely fresh homemade fruit salad awaits! Would recommend and happily stay again!!!

Alderwasley is wonderfully quiet and peaceful ideal to relax and unwind in.
  • The Studio was lovely. Nadine has created a luxurious apartment. Dont be fooled by the name.... this is not 'a studio apartment', it is a proper one bedroom (en-suite) apartment with a roomy lounge/kitchen/diner. Beautiful setting. Quiet. Really a 'home from home'. We are meticulous hosts and 'The Studio' really impressed us

    Des and ChiChi2016-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • Nadine was a perfect host and her place was one of the best that we have stayed using the airbnb site. It is well off the main road with lovely views around and the the amenities were perfect including a welcome pack with milk, bread, butter and jams. We would definitely stay here again and had a wonderful weekend exploring the Peak District using Nadines studio as our base. Highly recommend!!!

    Nick2017-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • I was welcomed and shown the studio, which is situated in an idyllic location, by the host. The photos in truth may not even do the quality of this accommodation justice. The name of the property (Studio) may not do it justice either, but having spoken to Nadine, I now understand the reason for the name. It is definitely a good size apartment and equipped to a very high standard. Peaceful and quiet and an ideal spot for exploring the Peak District. Nadine is a fantastic host and I will definitely be staying here again, if I'm welcomed back! For me, the best property I've ever used on AirBNB.

    Daniel2016-10-11T00:00:00Z

  • We felt very welcomed by Nadine. The studio was very clean and homely and a perfect place for a weekend getaway. Located in the countryside, the views are beautiful and the area very peaceful. We would definitely recommend to others.

  • A gem of a place to stay. Easy to get to yet wonderfully peaceful and secluded. The flat was extremely well equipped. The highlight being probably the most comfortable sofa you have ever sat on, perfect for a cheeky beer while watching rugby or, resting after a long walk on one of the many trails near by. Nadine was a fantastic host host and I am certain we shall return.

Chapel Mews is one half of a Grade II listed former chapel with great views over the surrounding countryside. It has a large open plan living/dining room and kitchen with antique table and comfortable sofas. 2 good sized double/twin bedrooms. Belper town centre with shops, restaurants, pubs and a cinema is within walking distance. Easy access to all areas of Derbyshire/Peaks. Very good WI-FI.
Our 2 double bedroomed, grade 2 listed former chapel makes for a lovely stay in the historic Derbyshire mill town of Belper which has great amenities and transport links to The Derbyshire Peak District. We have furnished with a mix of vintage and modern pieces and a few cosy touches to make you feel at home. The ground floor is a spacious, open plan space with tall 3m high ceilings that you might expect from an old chapel. The kitchen is very well equipped with a range cooker, microwave and dishwasher and plenty of crockery and utensils. There is also a coffee machine and we provide free tea and coffee. There are plenty of books, a few games and a smart TV to entertain you during your stay. We also have Wi-Fi with a very good signal. The open staircase that leads from the rear of the ground floor has a big window that offers great views and there is a galleried landing at the top. Upstairs the large master bedroom has a super king size bed that can be split into 2 singles (just let us know if you need it making up as single beds). The second bedroom has a comfortable standard size double bed and benefits from views over the surrounding countryside. Both bedrooms are big enough to accommodate an infants travel cot which we can provide on request. There is a double sofa bed in the living room for which we provide bed linen on request or for bookings of 5 or more. There is one family bathroom with the shower over the bath. The shower has good pressure and is on a hose so can be lowered for those who don't want to get wash their hair every day! Outside, there is a small decking area at the front of the house with garden furniture so you will be able to sit outside with your morning coffee or a nice cup of tea and maybe a old beer or glass of wine in the evening. Free on-road parking is directly outside the front of the chapel and there is space for more than one vehicle within a few metres with no parking restrictions. If you travel by public transport Belper train Station and the main bus depot are less than a mile away. We send out further information on local restaurants and places of interest when your booking is confirmed and are always happy to help with any special requests. There are books and maps with plenty of Derbyshire walks in the chapel when you arrive. The Wi-Fi signal s also very good for you to research the area further.
Belper is a lovely historic Derbyshire mill town and the chapel is only a 10-15 minute (uphill) walk from the town centre which offers independent shops, restaurants, pubs and the art deco style Ritz cinema. The river gardens with play area is also popular with all ages. There are lots of places of interest and things to do locally which makes this a great base to explore Derbyshire from.
  • As this house is a converted chapel, it gives you a slightly different experience. I was trully considering to prolong our trip and stay longer in Sarah's house as I really liked it. It has a very welcoming feeling. Coffe, tea, fresh milk in the fridge and cookies made us feel like home. The house was spotless clean throughout. High ceiling, big window with a nice back view and lots of nice features around the house were definitely WOW factor for me and my family. Our 4 year old daughter was very excited running around the house and discovering them. The bedrooms and bathroom were more like in a 5* hotel. Sarah has a great attention to details which I really appreciate. She was also very quick to reply to any of my messages. I would defenetily recommend this accomodation if you are planning to stay in this area. Thank you Sarah!

  • The house was exactly as described. It was very clean and well equipped, there was everything we could have needed and more. It was just perfect for us. Comfy beds and fluffy towels - I wished I was staying longer! Situated on the edge of town, quiet and just a short walk to the town centre, its also a good base for exploring the Peak District. Sarah was very helpful, friendly and replied promptly whenever I contacted her. I would highly recommend.

  • I communicated via e-mail with Sarah before arrival. She told me everything I needed to know, and asked if I had further questions. She met us at the property, and then left us to it. She gave leaving instructions over e-mail during our stay. The house was lovely, as in the pictures. It was very attractive, well-appointed and tastefully furnished.

    Dom2016-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovely place with interesting décor. Grand, high ceilings but still felt cosy. Sarah very kindly lent us a high chair and travel cot which was great for our 15 month old toddler. Check in was easy and the welcome essentials (tea, coffee, milk, sweets!) were much appreciated after our long drive.

    Julia2017-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed for one evening for a family function. Sarah's place was homely and comfy. I would highly recommend her home.

A quirky newly refurbished property set in the heart of Belper in Derbyshire, this is a great base for anyone wishing to stay on the edge of the peak district. "The Loft" is close to all local amenities such as shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants all within walking distance. we are situated within a 5 minute walk to the local train station and are on the main route for public transport.

  • Nice and comfortable little house in two levels. Compact but smartly organized and all you need is provided for. Very clean. Whole house is newly decorated and well done. Set in a peaceful neighbourhood on walking distance from town centre. Good starting point to visit Peak District. 15min drive. Second bed is a comfortable sofabed. Two levels are open. This and the stairs make it les less suitable for families with toddlers.

  • Excellent place, beautifully decorated and well located for my dog and I. Lots of great walks nearby. Gutted to have to leave!

  • We had 4 adults stay in the Loft. It was perfect for two couples. The split level gives both sleeping areas privacy. Belper is a cute little town near the Peak District. We used it as a basecamp for walks around the Peak District. We did find that it is crucial to make reservations ahead of time on weekends and some places that advertise they serve food at a few of the pubs actually don't. Walking distance to the town center, the mill, and many pubs. Sarah was a wonderful host and we never had a hard time finding parking.

    Angela2017-05-02T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you for a lovely stay in the cosy loft. It is small but perfectly formed, and had everything that we needed for a few days away. The location is within easy reach of the town and lots of shops and restaurants, and Belper is the friendliest town I have visited. Sarah was a great host, and although we didn't meet her as she was away too, she messaged us before we arrived and as we were leaving, to ensure we had everything we needed. She made us feel very welcome. Would definitely stay at The Loft again.

    Kathryn2017-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • We just returned for an extremely relaxing and enjoyable trip to the lovely Belper. The Loft is located on a nice quiet street very close to the town centre. Well located to explore the Peak District, as well as being close enough (20 mins drive) to Derby. Plenty of restaurants locally, within a 10 mile radius. Very well decorated interior - all finished to an extremely high standard. I have to say that it was a shame that we only had so many days there. Everything you need is all in The Loft and had a very cosy feel to it. When we booked we immediately got a message from the lovely Sarah. And although she was away enjoying, probably, a well deserved break, she was excellent at communicating with us and responding to any of our questions. A lot of information was provided before and even during our stay at The Loft. We would definitely be recommending it to friends and family and will surely be back again to visit.

Whilst the listing is for a double bedroom, a fold out sofa bed is also available. The flat is within our main family home and uses a shared entrance. Duffield is situated on the edge of the Peak District with good public transport into Derby by bus or train and into the Peak district also by bus or train. There is plenty to do in the region either with or without a car : good walking, shopping in Derby , Nottingham or Chesterfield; there is a local preserved railway The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway which runs from the village at weekends and more often in the summer. We are also near to The Midland Railway at Butterley. Theatres in Derby and Nottingham have good, varied programmes and we are near to the Buxton Opera house. I have lived in Duffield all my life so have a good knowledge of the area and would be happy to advise on local amenities.
Duffield has 2 local Indian restaurants - both good; a Chinese takeaway; 2 Fish and chip shops, 2 gastro pubs and a microbar. Breakfast can be eaten at Godfrey's or Movieshakes local coffee shops, and Birds sell breakfast baps. The co-op is open from seven in the morningto ten at night everyday and sells most standard groceries. I will get basics in for you and will try and provide whatever you need if possible, if you let me know what you require
  • Lovely apartment, well located in Duffield. Barbara is friendly and welcoming. We loved the space as it was so light and comfortable. There was everything we needed in the kitchen. Will certainly return if in the area again.

  • Both myself and Kayleigh were made to feel very welcome by Barbara. We were shown around the apartment and Barbara had kindly provided fresh milk, bread, eggs and orange juice. There was even ground coffee available. We would have no hesitation to stay there again. Thank you Barbara.

  • Barbara is a great host. Mum and I loved the accommodation which is full of character and history. We really appreciated the breakfast supplies and other touches that meant that this was a real home from home experience. The location is excellent for exploring the area. There are local shops and a variety of places to eat on your doorstep. Really good public transport connections and delightful places to walk from your doorstep.

  • Barbara is a great host, the facility's are excellent with more than enough room for 2 people. The history of the house is very interesting and the house is very inviting. • Lovely central location. The apartment is comfortable, spacious and light. Barbara is a friendly, knowledgeable and helpful host. The little touches were lovely and very welcomed thank you

    Abigail2017-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • Barbara was a lovely, welcoming host who was more than happy to help with anything thrown at her. The apartment is very central to Duffield, with plenty of good local shops and eateries and it's only a 15 min drive into Derby. It's very clean and spacious and provisions like milk, bread, cereal, tea/coffee etc. were kindly provided. Parking is free 6pm-8am on the street outside but Barbara has a space around the back if you need it. Coming and going on your own accord is a breeze. A fantastic example of what an airbnb should be and I would highly recommend it.

  • Our stay in Crich was the best Airbnb experience we have had! Clive and Ruth are very friendly people, they showed us the main attractions in the area and provided everything for our comfortable staying. The room exceeded our expectations, clean and tidy with was lots of snacks and fresh fruits provided together with variety of drinks. The house is located right in the centre of the village, ~5mins walk from the shop and pubs and ~1km away from the tram village, which we definitely recommend everyone visiting to see. All in all everything was great and we really enjoyed our stay.

  • Lovely house and garden in gorgeous rural area with two great hosts! Great views from bedroom window. We had our private lounge, bedroom and shower room/loo. We felt refreshed and relaxed staying with Ann and John. We were spoiled with fruits and amazing cooked breakfasts each day. My partner was celebrating his birthday and our hosts helped to make our day! We visited the Heights of Abraham and Yorshire Sculpture Park: the accommodation is very near local attractions We travellec by car and received helpful directions from Ann and John.

    Heather2017-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • Ann and John's house is a lovely place for a trip away, with scenic views, great local atmosphere and so many things to do. The accommodation was a private sector (own floor of the house) which was fantastic. Such a welcoming couple, attentive but allowed us to come and go as we pleased. Ann and John were happy to suggest things to do in the area. We would definitely stay here again :)

    ryan2017-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully decorated attic rooms with lovely country views over the valley. Comfy bed and extra pillows. Breakfasts 5 star. We felt welcome and very at home in Ann & Johns home.

  • My third stay and another wonderful night's sleep. Took the opportunity this time to run in the ancient and protected Ambergate woods, on John's recommendation, perfect for an evening stroll or sprint.

  • Friendly and generous hosts. A view on top of the world. A delightful little retreat with an excellent bed and delicious breakfast. The drive up requires a bit of patience and precision.

  • The location of Ann & John's is fabulous and their place has breathtaking views from the room. Their house is wonderful, clean and appreciated little touches, thank you for the soya milk and catering for my vegan needs! John cooked us a fantastic breakfast and my partner and I where well set up for the rest of the day! Our only complaint is that we could not stay longer. Both Ann and John are lovely, both interesting and easy to chat, flexible and really easy going. Would highly recommend their place, you won't be disappointed.

    Lisa2017-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • This was my first experience of airbnb and to be honest I didn't have a clue what to expect. Ann and John made me feel so welcome and were happy to answer all my questions about how things work. Honestly, Ann and John are such lovely, warm people I instantly. They couldn't have done any more to make my stay a cery enjoyable and the space plus the views are even better than the photos. I can highly recommend Hilltop retreat and sincerely hope to have another stay in the not too distant future.

Helen was extremely helpful in answering all our questions and queries prior to the trip, and during. I would really recommend a stay at Helen's place if you are looking to relax in a lovely little town and explore areas in the lower Peak District.

  • My friends and I, 5 of us from London spent one night in Helen's over the weekend in mid-August to visit the Peak District. The house is well-furnished and clean. We particularly like the kitchen & the bathroom. However, it might be a little bit far to actually reach to the peak district, it is still a good option to stay on a busy weekend when rest of the area within the Peak is fully booked and which is less pricey as well. Also, it won't be a problem if you are driving! I will definitely recommend my friends if they want a place to stay in Derbyshire or visiting the Peak District.

Come and stay in my beautiful and stylish barn in the quirky little town of Wirksworth, known as the 'gem of the peaks'. The barn is situated in a quiet conservation area, minutes from the heart of Wirksworth with outstanding views of the town and countryside. Being on the edge of the Peak District, it is an ideal base for exploring this part of England, with great walks from the doorstep . Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and many other attractions are just a short drive away.
The barn is situated in the grounds of my home, but is completely independent and detached with its own entrance. Upstairs features an attractive large open plan living space comprising of a sitting area at one end, and a well equipped kitchen and dining area the other. Downstairs there are two double bedrooms, each with ensuite shower rooms. The property offers a small outdoor terrace, ideal for having breakfast outside on a warm morning. For those with bikes there is a secure area for storage.
Crofter's Barn is up a steep hill close to the centre of Wirksworth and all its amenities, including an independent cinema and plenty of eating places. Star gaze, meditate or enjoy local fish and chips in our delightful shared folly located in the grounds, while taking in the incredible view. There is also a shared seating area which you are welcome to enjoy. Great walks from the doorstep and ideally situated for the Peak District's many attractions, with water sports on nearby Carsington Water. Wirksworth is a vibrant little market town with a selection of pubs, cafes, restaurants and independent shops. Browse for antiques, books, toys and gifts. The town is also home to the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, running seasonal weekend trains to Duffield. The annual Wirksworth Arts Festival held in September offers a mix of live performance, art trails and exhibitions.
  • Lovely barn, close to restaurants and walks in the Peaks with a very helpful host. Would highly recommend

    Andy2017-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was absolutely perfect. The barn had everything we needed for a relaxing few days. Location is beautiful. Nicola is the perfect host, thank you so much!

    Sophia2017-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • A very attractive barn-conversion cottage offering a vista across the rooftops of the town to the hills beyond. We were very comfortable and Nicola did her very best to make us both welcome and comfortable. Just be aware of the steep approach hill and the quirky entrance through the WC/shower room of one of the bedrooms.

    Nigel2017-03-24T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful little hideaway in the heart of the Derbyshire peaks. Nicola was the perfect hostess. Highly recommended

    Jennifer2017-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • Nicola is a very friendly and helpful host. All communication was prompt and accurate. Crofter's Barn is beautifully decorated and was a lovely option for us to put our heads down in between visiting family. Be warned that when Nicola says that the Barn is at the top of a steep slope, she really means it! Greenhill has a very sharp gradient and we didn't feel comfortable walking down it with children - not a problem as we were driving to see family but we didn't wander into the village for brunch as we'd imagined. Take sturdy shoes and a car with decent ground clearance!

    Amanda2017-04-12T00:00:00Z
  • We had amazing stay at Nicola's cottage. It's a very charming and unique property with beautiful views. To access the property you have to drive up a very steep hill, but that makes the views even more amazing & the location is walkable to the high street. There is a lovely French restaurant for dinner and a great place for breakfast as well just walking distance from the property at the bottom of the hill. We drove all around the Peak District and were lucky enough to see snow while we were there, it was beautiful. Nicola is a wonderful host, very helpful, very prompt to reply to any queries & her home is right next to the cottage. The property is very spacious, clean and beautifully appointed. We had an amazing stay and will surely be back in the future! Thank you, Nicola.

    Gursimran2017-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is just lovely, clean and comfortable with amazing views. Nicola was a great host. Thank you!

    Deborah2017-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I really enjoyed our bank holiday weekend stay in this lovely property. We really enjoyed a couple of local walks, there are endless choices of public footpaths, and enjoyed hiring bikes at Carsington Water and cycling the perimeter. From the property, you can easily walk into Wirksworth for a meal. We enjoyed eating lunch at Mercia and an evening meal at Le Mistral. Both very nice food and comfortable atmospheres. We both slept well at the property, it's very quiet and safe. Please note it is a very steep hill (Nicola is a wonderful host and gave directions a few days before) but do consider a small car with height if possible! It requires first gear up a steep hill and the driveway from the hill can scrape the bottom of your car. I drive a standard Seat Ibiza and it grounded on entrance and exit. Meeting another vehicle on the hill can also cause some clutch problems! Overall, a fantastic stay at a lovely, homely and very clean property in a great location!
