  • My Fiance and I had a gorgeous stay at the Woodlandsuite. Its very private and we were able to self check in and out. It was absolutely sparking clean and very cosy. The hot tub was a perfect additive and we enjoyed this very much! The location was perfect, close to nearby pubs and a short drive to windermere. We would definitely return in the future! Great value for money.

  • Lovely little place to stay with very froendly and helpful hosts. Easy to get to and find. Private hot tub is lovely to have access to and with it normally having a gazebo over, useable in almost any weather! Very comfy bed and cozy sofa to curl up on. The only things I'd change/add is a few more/new utensils in the kitchen (e.g. tongs for cooking and sharp knives) and curtains for the 2 doors. Just to make it that bit cozier when it's dark. We will be keeping in mind for future Lake District adventures!

  • Lovely place, nice and quiet, cosy, we hardly left the place all weekend!

    Andy2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic property and fantastic hosts. The place was spotless and spacious. Kitchen had everything we needed and the hot tub was a lovely addition that allowed a very relaxing break. Debbie was quick to respond to messages and any queries we had. Loved having use of the local leisure centre facilities too. Would highly recommend!

    Chloe2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Debbie is an excellent host, showed us about at check in and how to use the hot tub etc and any questions you had throughout the weekend were answered with fast and helpful responses, the house looks exactly like the photos so wasn’t disappointed, free use of the health club along the road is the icing on the cake. Would definitely recommend to friends and will be staying again myself

  • Amazing holiday cottage. Stayed over New Year with My family. We all had an amazing time. The Manor House Pub is within walking distance for great food and drink. Will hopefully visit again!

    Will2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely brilliant, this place had everything. Such a beautiful location too. Highly recommended.

    Elissa2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing find! Beautiful sunrises. Was a bit nervous about the lack of heating-packed hot water bottles and extra blankets but these were not needed! We actually slept with the bedroom windows open as the fire made the barn so toasty.... Thoroughly recommend Grizedale Forest for bike and walking trails, the Go Ape there was also fantastic with helpful staff. Best family meal out (possibly ever?!) at The Manor in Oxen Park as recommended by Carole. Nothing too much trouble for hosts....even topped up our coolant when a warning light came on in our vehicle. We actually used our blankets for sitting on in front of the fire in the evening-something I would recommend!

    Shelley2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Great place for a number of people looking for a quiet place to lay their heads or for indoor/outdoor games. We had about 6 beds at the place which really suited our 1 night stay.

    Gerald2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Really great place to stay if you're a fan of the Lake District. Wood was provided for the fire and Carole even returned a mobile phone a friend had accidently left there through the post. Great host.

    Marc2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great location for a great barn. Nice and clean, spacious accommodation with plenty to do. I'd say definitely take some indoor footwear like sliders / slippers as the ground floor is cold but the room itself is warm from the log burner and heater! Highly recommend

    Dave2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • The place was very clean, a fire was lit on our arrival and the whole place had a very cosy feel, a selection of board games are available and a local pub is a 15 min walk away. We were met on arrival by the owners who live on site. There are plenty of walks from the site

We fell in love with this place the moment we arrived. The peace of the area gave us a chance to relax in the beautiful surroundings. Close by, the lake, hills and mountains gave us the chance to have some adventures. Our Lake District cottage is one of four properties that were once the mill in Water Yeat. It has an open kitchen dining room which makes a great space to relax. The living room has a wood burning stove, vaulted ceiling and large windows with views over the hamlet and countryside.
Our cottage has: An open kitchen diner with electric oven and hob, fridge-freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. A living room with two sofas, satellite TV, DVD and wood-burning stove. 1 double bedroom with king-size bed 1 double bedroom with double day bed Bathroom with bath and separate shower Hallway Parking for two vehicles Garden and patio
We live in a small hamlet with lovely views and walks and cycle rides in all directions. Walk straight onto the nearby hills, down to the river or along to the lake Coniston Water. Nearby are the villages of Coniston and Hawkshead, the higher Lakeland mountains and Brantwood, the home of John Ruskin. A little further are Ambleside, Windermere, Langdale and Grasmere. The area has many great cafes and pubs serving local produce. For the more adventurous there is great mountain walking, climbing, mountain biking, canoeing and sailing close by, independently or with local adventure companies.
  • Had a perfect week with our 2 beagles, garden perfect for them to run around in. Cottage has everything we needed and will definitely be coming back

Water Yeat Mill, England, United Kingdom

A stunning 200 year-old cottage located in the charming small village of Bouth in the Lake District, now a UNESCO world heritage region. Situated on a quiet country road and bounded on two sides by open fields, with grazing shire horses and Jersey cows, this is the idyllic country retreat. The cottage has been renovated to the highest standard whilst retaining all the charm of its period. The traditional village pub is a few metres away. Breathtaking natural scenery awaits you from the doorway.
The architect-designed interior of this cottage has been exquisitely restored in the most beautiful quirky and contemporary style. The original fireplace, beams, and floorboards have been exposed and walls restored using traditional lime plaster. Solid oak handmade interior doors with beautiful ironmongery and a stunning white birch staircase have been added. Downstairs is a light and airy open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, with rear access to a fabulous patio, where you can catch the sun for an alfresco breakfast and dine till late in the evening in the warmth of the sunset. The lounge area with comfy luxurious sofas, stone flooring and wood burner is the perfect spot for cosy relaxation after a long day. The dining area has a solid oak table with bench seating for four to enjoy a meal together and the light kitchen is fully equipped with modern appliances, with an electronic oven and hob, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave, food processor, comprehensive kitchen utensils and washing machine. On the first floor, where the original A-frame beams are exposed to the apex of the roof, there is a spacious master bedroom with a king-size bed and a large, beautifully tiled shower and WC en-suite. There is also a second equally lovely en-suite WC. Outside the property is a private, raised patio with garden furniture, enclosed wildflower garden and shed for storing bikes. There is parking at the property, with an electric car charging option and space for two cars.
The village offers a traditional pub a few metres from the cottage and a heritage farm where visitors can see traditional farming methods, even ride traction engines and enjoy a small cafe selling home-made ice cream, fresh milk and eggs. There are numerous walks of great unspoilt natural beauty from the cottage and quiet roads and tracks for cycling and mountain biking. The beautiful west coast of Cumbria with vast empty beaches is a 30 minute drive, whilst the Lakeland fells and lakes are accessible in all directions. Nearby, 15 minutes drive, is the quaint market town of Ulverston, with its narrow cobbled streets, where you can find good supermarkets, cafes and restaurants and charming craft shops. From the motorway there is a fast road without the traffic congestion of the tourist blackspots, giving efficient access to the cottage and from there to the rest of the Lake District National Park.
  • Wow what a beautiful cottage! It had everything we needed and was really clean. We had a great night sleep, the beds were super comfy. Loved our stay here! Would highly recommend, thank you so much :)

We've recently completed a top-to-toe renovation of our 250 year old cottage, giving the place a modern rustic feel. There are many wonderful walks and bike rides available right from the front door and some great gastropubs nearby - plus the 2 Michelin starred L'Enclume restaurant just a few miles away.
Free BT super-fast WiFi. Charging point for electric vehicle. Smart TV with FreeSat. 15 minutes drive from Junction 36 of M6. LGBTQ friendly. Dog friendly. We can organise fun things for a special occasion, including champagne and local handmade chocolates - please just ask.
Lake Windermere is a short walk from our front door, accessed via the National Trust's Fell Foot Park. Newly opened Active Base centre at Fell Foot offers a range of watersports. Across the lake at Lakeside is the Haverthwaite Steam Railway, the Lakes Aquarium and you can take the passenger ferry around England's largest lake with Windermere Lake Cruises.
  • I booked Loveday cottage for my parents for a weekend, and they have had the most amazing time. They have asked me to pass on their review! They said that Loveday cottage was a piece of paradise! Everything is of a very high quality and would recommend to anyone! Also Emma and Gregor very kindly left some homemade brownies, that my mum said were the best she ever had!! Thank you!

    Sinead2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • So lovely and cosy. Probably the best bath, I‘ve ever had.

    Grace2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Back to reality after what was the most relaxing and tranquil weekend. Loveday was just perfect for what we needed and exceeded all expectations. The perfect place to unwind and put your feet up after long walks and breathtaking scenery, all a stones throw from the cottage. Thank you for making our weekend so special.

    Rhys2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully thought out accommodation, with plenty of little touches. The bath is simply amazing! Struggled to decide between soaking away the evening or curled up in front of the log burner. Fully equipped and spotless kitchen with underfloor heating. We had an amazing weekend away and very glad we decided to stay here. Excellent hosts.

  • Lovely, clean, perfect place to stay

    Mark2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • Loved my stay here, Sarah as a fab host, she thought of everything and the barn is immaculate. I particularly enjoyed the view from the bedroom window in the morning. It's epic! I'd highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a cosy place to stay in the lakes.

    Dom2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great stay at Sarah's place! It's about a 45m walk to reach Ulverston, which was mostly downhill so quite easy. If travelling on a busy weekend you need to book restaurants and taxis in advance - we didn't manage to book the restaurant we wanted as Ulverston got incredibly busy on the bank holiday weekend.

    El2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • The photos do not do this place justice- it's a lot bigger and more luxurious than we expected! It is a clean and comfy home and Sarah has thought of everything you could possibly need. The location is a short drive from the lakes, but handy for access to more amenities in Ulverston.

    Vera2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely place to stay. Home from home. Peaceful, wonderful views. A great place from which to explore The Lakes. Spotlessly clean, great amenities. Would definitely recommend and hope to stay again soon. Jan

This is a pretty, clean, quiet single room, 5 min from the centre of town, that looks out over the garden. Tea, coffee, herbal tea, kettle and toaster are provided. The bathroom suite is new and it has recently been retiled. A bit of work needs to be done to the wall. The hall way is well on its way, but needs a little bit of work also. . This work should be finished soon, but, if you need perfection, this room won't work for you. Its a pretty house though, with a lovely vibe.
    Its very sweet
Ulverston is really pretty and atmospheric market town, which hold many festivals and music/art events throughout the year. Just outside of the National Park, it provides a great base from which to explore the Lake District, although it is not over-whelmed by tourists and retains a great community feel. It is the start of the Cumbrian Way, and the home of the Laurel and Hardy museum. There is a fabulous old cinema, which still has ice-cream intervals. There are lots of fabulous cafes, restaurants and pubs in the area. Although the house is only five minutes walk to the centre of town, it is located in a very quiet, pretty neighbourhood.
  • Very nice place. To reach the town, a car is recommended.

  • Rachel’s place is great value for money . A comfy bed , good shower and close to local shops bars and restaurants. Rachel is very friendly , responsive and easy to talk to . I would definitely stay at Rachel’s place again .

  • The host is good, kind and very nice. The place is great as I had a really wonderful experience during my stay there. It is located in a central place as it is close to the train station and other key places you might need to visit.

  • Stay is really amazing. The room is cozy. Worth every pound. Host Rachel was so sweet. I would suggest this place to everyone.

    Elizabeth2019-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Rachel is very nice and supportive. She helps me solve the problem of getting to her home, and the way of getting to my next destination. Her home is cozy and the neighborhood is quite. I took good rest there and it was a great experience!

    Baiqiao2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Rachel is a very caring host, and I enjoyed staying there again, in the cute little room with garden view. Little breakfats things are in the room, also a small fridge. The WFI worked fine as it did last time. I can recommend it.

    Norbert2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • It is a cozy and comfortable room in a very quiet community. I can easily find a lot of on-street parking spaces. It is a very good option for a short stay. Although it is not exactly in the lake district it is definitely not far if you drive. Rachel is very friendly and always responses to my message very quickly.

Our home is in the hamlet where Arthur Ransome, author of 'Swallows & Amazons' spent his childhood holidays. Today it still retains its charm, even in high summer. We are a stone's throw from the lake, with woodlands & waterfalls on our doorstep.
We have 2 lovely guest bedrooms, each with king-size beds, sharing a spacious bathroom. (We often only have one guest group at a time but on busy weekends you may have to share the facilities.) I provide fresh towels, shower & bath products, wifi access & tea/coffee making facilities in your room. You can enjoy your buffet breakfast either in the kitchen by the Aga, or outside if the weather is nice. You are welcome to use the kitchen to prepare your packed lunch or a simple evening meal though of course you may prefer to visit one of the local pubs or restaurants; the nearest pub is the Red Lion ( a gentle 2 mile walk away if you're feeling energetic!)
If you want to leave the car behind, just step out of the door! Explore the small pebbled beaches and coves at the southern end of the lake by foot or on your bike. The lovely National Trust steam boat 'Gondola' plies the lake and you can have a leisurely cruise, or perhaps visit Brantwood, the home of John Ruskin for over 30 years. If you want to climb the fells, the Old Man of Coniston and other famous Lakeland peaks are just up the road.

  • Cate was very communicative and always there when I needed something. She's also a great baker and had cute brownies and shortbread as a welcome waiting. Loved the little extra touches. She also provided me with hiking route ideas and made sure everything was ok.

  • This is one small but perfectly formed part of a bigger place including a beautiful big garden that was aflame with Autumn colour this time, a very cool and beautifully done out yurt, chickens, a romantic and ethereal dive cote, and best of all, a fellow border collie for ours to play with! the Little White House is perfect for one, or one and a little one, as it has a single bed and Care added a fully dressed n comfy camp bed for my son. My bed was memory foam (I think) and I thought it was SUPER comfy. There’s helpful info to n local attractions but also how to walk to and from a couple of Local pubs :) This host is all about the details and it makes for a great stay. If u have a dog used to sitting on the bed/furniture, I recommend u bring throws to protect the beds n armchair. Cate is wonderfully dog friendly catering for them as well as the humans.

    Lucy2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Accomodation is exactly as advertised: clean, warm, and extremely well equipped for a space of its size. Cate's hospitality was exemplary; I would certainly come here again and can highly recommend The Garden Room. Chris

From this cottage, explore the beautiful Lake District National Park, or simply relax in front of the woodburner.. Ground floor: Living/dining room with wooden floors. Kitchen with tiled floor. First floor: 2 bedrooms: 1 double, 1 single. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet.. Woodburner in living room (initial fuel included). Gas central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Travel cot. 37" freesat TV. Electric cooker. Washing machine. Fridge/freezer. Wi-fi. Shared courtyard. Parking (1 car). Welcome pack. No smoking. . This terraced holiday cottage is a peaceful retreat and is part of an old farm that was converted some years ago. The cottage has a lovely woodburner, which gives the property a cosy country feel that makes it special. This is the perfect springboard to the Lakes, and if you like your walking, there are many walks from Hatherthwaite up to the Lakes and beyond. Many years ago you would have travelled to Haverthwaite to purchase gunpowder, nowadays you go there for peace and quiet! Haverthwaite is only a few minutes down the A590 from Backbarrow, 4 miles north of Cartmel, and has moved on from its days as an iron, steel, cotton and gunpowder-producing village to become a more tranquil getaway. Haverthwaite is famous the the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Steam Railway. Running along the line that once transported gunpowder to the dockyards, the railway now carries tourists along the scenic route in traditional, heritage steam trains. Many of the old industrial buildings have been converted into flats or houses, whilst a number of beautiful holiday cottages have sprung up over the years to accommodate the large number of tourists who arrive in the village each year. The village’s history lives on in buildings like the old Gunpowder Works, with its ornate clock tower, and St Anne’s Church, which was built in 1824. A true taste of local life can be found at the local pub, which specialises in real ales, as well as putting on live music and quiz nights. Beach 3½ miles. Shop 1 mile, pub and restaurant ¼mile.

A converted barn situated at Newby Bridge, located Close to the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway, and a short walk to the Swan Hotel & Spa. The cottage sleeps up to 3 guests and the stylish accommodation has a single and a super king-size bed on a mezzanine floor above a snug living room area, around a wood burning stove and a very large open living space. Well placed to explore the Southern Lakes, with easy access to both Hawkshead and Coniston, as well as Windermere and Ambleside.
The access, parking and gardens are shared with Waterside House.
The Swan at Newby Bridge is lovely to stroll along to for a meal. The National Trust Fell Foot Park around the corner is worth a visit. You can take one of the Steamers on Lake Windermere from Lakeside up to Bowness-on-Windermere and Ambleside.
  • An excellent spacious barn (for two to three guests) which is both well equipped and boasts many interesting features. It's in a great location for exploring the lakes and is in a quiet spot immediately adjacent to the Haverthwaite to Lakeside steam rail track. It's a 5minute walk to Newby Bridge Station, which is handy. Don't be put off by the noise from the passing trains as you'll hardly notice them, plus they only pass infrequently and the first one in the morning isn'tuntil nearly 10:00am. A great comfortable place for a relaxing break.

Bank Cottage is a 'one off' experience of a stay. Once a bank, now a converted cottage. It still has many of the old, period features, including exposed beams and the original flagged floors. Bank Cottage is in the heart of the village of Greenodd, in the Lake District. It is the perfect stay for hikers and families alike. Just a stone throw from the local café, newsagents/post office, Fish and Chip Shop, The Porterage Co. and The Ship Inn means you have the village at your doorstep.
The cottage itself is upside down! Entering through the front door brings you to the newly renovated kitchen which flows through to the sunroom, and the large living room. The living room is a L shaped space with space for seated dining as well as plenty of seats to gather round the wood burning fire on cold nights. Perfect for marshmallows! There is a large shower-room on this floor. The balcony extends off the sunroom and is partially covered and cannot be seen by the surrounding houses. Downstairs leads to the two large bedrooms and modern bathroom with a double walk in shower and a large bath. The master bedroom includes a king-sized bed and access to the laundry/boot room, if you require the facilities. The other bedroom is a spacious twin room with plenty of storage space for your stay.
The house comes with free WI-FI though super-fast fibre internet, a washing machine, a smart TV that can be used to access a variety of streaming networks. There is also a log burning fire some initial fuel for the stove is included in the price for the cottage. There is fully fitted and furnished kitchen. There is also a travel cot and high-chair available to use for the younger adventurers. There are steps at the entrance of the property, however the doorways are very wide, due to its past life as a bank, however, the stairs in the house are narrow and curved.
  • Clean, cosy, but plenty of room, with loads of thoughtful touches, and a lovely fire for cold evenings. Great little village with an amazing cafe right opposite! (Be sure to book...)

  • Beautifully stylish place but cosy at the same time, great tips in the guide book there (including a lovely walk me and my dad went on), and very welcoming to arrive with home made cookies and fresh milk. Thank you Beth.

    Mark2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • There aren’t enough compliments to give Bank Cottage! We were greeted by delicious homemade biscuits and a welcome note which immediately set the tone of our stay. Beth has thought of everything- games, information brochures, local pub/cafe menus, a box of toiletries in the bathroom, and even some welcome treats in the fridge for our little girl. Really can’t recommend this cottage highly enough and will most certainly be back.

    Michaela2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage, super cosy! A real home from home

    Hannah2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Bank Cottage is a lovely, cosy house that is sparklingly clean and has everything you need for a break in the South Lakes. Beth left really thoughtful treats for us - the ready-made fire and homemade cookies were perfect after a day climbing in the wind and rain. Wish we’d been able to stay longer!

    Louise2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely wonderful place! Will definitely be telling family and friends to go! Such thoughtful touches on arrival (homemade cookies!) and tea and coffee left ready, and little things around the house to make your stay easier such as maps and a "forget box" and dog treats! Thank you for a great stay

    Bethany2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Beth's home went well beyond our expectations at every turn. The space is beautiful and really thoughtfully decorated, Beth even welcomed us with home baked cookies and a card! Everything has been thought of and the house is a perfect base for a quiet weekend in the Lakes. We honestly can't recommend Beth's place enough and look forward to staying again as soon as we can!

    Georgia2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Bank Cottage, there were home made cookies waiting for us upon our arrival and Beth had even left our little boy a little treat too! The info booklet is great and is another touch that goes the extra mile to help you have a great stay. Loved the fire (wood/ firelighters were provided) and the beds were very comfy! Would highly reccomend and there is a shop next door and a cafe/ bakery a few doors down!

My place is good for couples, and families (with kids). Business people have also been happy to stay. One bedroom has two singles which can convert to a king size bed and the other room has a double bed. The shower room has a shower cubicle, toilet and washbasin. No washer in the cabin but guests are welcome to use mine. Country location, ten minutes from Coniston Water and twenty minutes from Windermere. Lots of tourist attractions in the area.
    Garden furniture on the veranda.
Lowick is quite a scattered village, chippy and post office/store in Greenodd about five minutes drive. Ulverston, ten minutes drive is a quaint market town with small interesting shops as well as supermarkets. Fifteen minutes away is the peaceful Conishead Priory and Buddhist Temple.
  • A great place to stay, the host has a good selection of DVDs or reading material for when you're inside, and it's in a perfect spot for hitting a good amount of places in the south lakes. The cabin had a lot of eco products which is always a nice sight. The host was kind enough to put the lights and heating on as we had a late arrival which was a lovely gesture.

    Michael2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay. The place has all you may need. Excellent dvd collection. The host was extremely helpful. Highly recommend.

    Tina2020-01-27T00:00:00Z

  • This is a perfect little cabin hideaway. Every detail has been considered and it was incredibly comfortable. All you can hear at night is owls and the stream across the road. Highly recommended!

  • Better than the pics. This place is a home from home. So impressed. Great distance from everything, really well furnished kitchen, really well equipped throughout. I took mum and my best friend on a couple of days walking round the lakes, Yvonne's spot was cozy, comfy and perfect. Thank you!

    David2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • Loved this little cabin! Stayed with my husband and a friend visiting from abroad. There were so many nice things such as the milk and biscuits left for us. I also loved that it was all cruelty free And eco friendly cleaning products, as that’s really important to me :) I didn’t have a chance to meet the host, but check in was super easy and we didn’t have any problems. However, being there in winter meant lots of ice and VERY dark, very early, so important to be aware of this if you’re driving and not familiar with the area. Thanks so much for such a lovely stay!

    Yasmine2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is beautiful, in a quaint location, with lovely homely touches. It's impossible not to relax here. It is wonderfully stocked with games, books, DVDs, and CDs! We are sad to have to leave, but will definitely be returning as soon as possible. This might become a regular visit for us - you cant loose a gem like this.

  • We really enjoyed our stay at this lovely cottage. It’s a great location for a peaceful retreat and we really enjoyed relaxing in the evening and using the log burner. Julia was very helpful and quick to reply. If we had a couple more days We would have liked to explore the walks directly from the cottage, maybe next time :)

    Aimee2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • House is exactly as described in pictures. Really warm with set timer so don't need to worry about heating. Stove made a nice touch and extra cosy in the evening. Fully stocked kitchen gave the option of staying in to cook. 10 minute drive down to Cartmel with lots of options to eat. Taxi service available by asking local pubs if required. We went to one of the Michelin star restaurants for lunch one day. Also make sure to get the sticky toffee pudding from the village shop. Not to be missed. Hot tub and pool were as described in pictures and a great bonus. Really enjoyed them. Didn't meet our host but responded quickly to any queries we had. Cartmel and Howbarrow are a great base for visiting lakes.

  • Julia's cottage is an idyllic getaway for a quiet weekend away. It's in a great location to explore cartmel and surrounding areas of the lake district. The cottage has everything you need including great additions like the hot tub and swimming pool. Self check in was simple and Julia was really helpful providing additional directions to find the cottage.

  • Honestly can’t recommend this place enough! From first contact to last, Julia and family were amazing. Always on hand for queries. All round lovely property and location. only 6 minute drive from the town of Cartmel. Lovely town with such a community feel to it. The best choice for a home from home feel!

  • This is a lovely quaint little cottage with the bonus of beautiful surroundings & an indoor pool. It is cosy , warm and filled with character. We went there for some peace & quiet from our busy working lives & got what we much needed... much needed rest. The log fire is a nice touch with a lovely comfortable bed & all amenities. We also met the neighbours when our walking who were lovely too. We would definitely stay again . *****

    Pedro2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Brilliant - we had such a nice few days at the cottage at Howbarrow Farm. It's properly remote (but easy to get to) which is exactly what we wanted, and during the storm we shut the world away, stuck a film on, and felt nice and cozy. Kitchen fully equipped so we were able to cook each evening and enjoy some of the lush sticky toffee pudding from the village shop too. The cottage itself was as described, and well laid out. Didn't take advantage of the hot tub or pool but those are nice extras and plenty of instructions provided if you fancy a go. Had a blonde moment and couldn't get the heat working on our last day (user error) but Julia was quick to respond, I managed to sort it out so we didn't actually meet but she was an attentive host. Would love to come back and check out the area some more, and would most definitely stay again.

  • We loved this place at Newby Bridge. I have to say that the entire cottage really exceeded my expectations and that the photos don’t do it that much justice. The place was perfect for us - exploring the Lake District given what we had planned. The kitchen had everything we needed to self cater, and also has a microwave - plus a washing machine (which we needed as we got so muddy from outdoor hiking). There was also coffee, tea and milk provided, which was a lovely touch. Also there’s a cute living room to relax in. The bedroom was a good size and bathroom was very clean! The location was quiet, and despite the stormy weather, we barely registered it. Ann was a great host, and she communicated well! Thank you for the hospitality! :) We really appreciated it. Would highly recommend this place! There are zero cons that I can think of.

  • Zoe’s place was a wonderful little cottage and an absolute joy to return too and relax in after a days walking. Zoe was more than happy for me to bring my dogs, even leaving a jar of biscuits and a towel for muddy paws along with the lovely welcome hamper that was left for us. There is literally everything you could need for a comfortable self catering break. Location wise the cottage is great for exploring all of the southern lakes with coniston a short drive up the road. There is a lovely little walk from the cottage which one of the neighbours recommended to us - from the cottage walk up towards the pub, do a right at the church then follow a lane all the way round, takes you to some beautiful views from behind the cottage xx Zoe was an amazing friendly host answering all of my queries promptly and I really feel she goes above and beyond with all the little extras left for you in the cottage (I’ve stayed in some places where there isn’t even a toilet roll!) Thank you Zoe! Xxx

  • The lodges are warm and cosy. They are decorated beautifully and are done to a high spec. We stayed in the smallest lodge. It’s not great for people that have mobility difficulties but it is absolutely lovely. The views and peace and quiet are so relaxing. The owners welcomed us on arrival and made sure that we could light the log burner and that we knew where everything was. I would be very happy to recommend the lodges to my family and friends.

  • We loved every minute of our stay at Blackberry Landing. The cabin is beautifully furnished and even better in person than it is in the pictures. It's really cosy with the log burner going and the location is quiet and feels rural and tucked away whilst still only being a short drive from the supermarket. The bed is comfy and the living space is lovely in the evening with everything you need to feel right at home. The kitchen is small but well-equipped (don't bring anything too big for the fridge!) and the shower is good. As far as I can see nobody has had a bad word to say about this place and rightly so. Check-in was dead easy, communication was good and Louise and Andrew are only too happy to come and help if you need anything. They had no problem with us checking out a bit later as there was nobody staying in the cabin that night. Five stars from us and highly recommended.

  • Great place to stay with everything you would need for a short stay. We stayed with our two children who loved it too. The place was warm, and cosy. The personal touches made this cabin a very welcoming place. We slept so well on our first night that we got up late the following day! Lovely touch with the chocolate cake. Thank you Louise and Andrew, you must be proud of a beautiful cabin.

  • Would highly recommend - beautiful location away from the usual tourist spots but still within reach of nice local pubs, walks etc. Gesine and Glen were amazing hosts, very easy communications and check in, possibly the cleanest Airbnb I've stayed at, and much appreciated local recommendations (Queens Heads Inn (Hawkshead) and Manor House both amazing food). The eggs were also much appreciated and very tasty!

  • Our stay away was absolutely lovely! A perfect getaway for any couple. A lovely small cottage with everything we needed there. The greeting was lovely and we were shown where different things were. The homegrown eggs and complimentary milk made amazing scrambled egg too! Thanks very much.

  • Brilliant stay in a wonderful location not far from Cartmel with relatively easy access to other areas, would highly recommend!

    Matthew2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • A great spot a little outside Cartmel. The loft is a cozy space and offers beautiful views. Low slung ceilings add to the charm, and it’s surprisingly roomy. Probably not the best time of year for it, but I can imagine it’s a real paradise for bird watchers in the summer. Just up the hill from the property is a spot with cracking views across the bay and there’s a couple of nice running routes down towards Holker Hall as well. Sadly we didn’t get a chance to use the hot tub and pool, but one for next time... We survived on foot for the most part, but probably easier in a car when it’s wet and windy. On a nice day, it’s a 30 minute walk down into Cartmel Village for L’Enclume and other foodie adventures, and probably 20 minutes to the race course. We were a bit surprised to see no essentials (salt, pepper, oil) in the kitchen, but Julia was very quick to sort that out, and nothing seemed too much of a bother for her! Overall very responsive on all front. We’ll be back!

    Sahil2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Julia’s farm loft is absolutely lovely with stunning views from every window. We really enjoyed our stay at the loft and would love to return again. We had a laugh trying to find the hot tub in the darkness but managed to find it in the end and enjoy the hot tub on a cold, wet night. Check in was very simple and the loft was warm and very inviting. Had a great sleep in the bed and enjoyed waking up to the beautiful views. Thanks for having us!

    Charlotte2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely hideaway just outside of Cartmel village - sadly we visited during one of the worst storms the UK has seen in yers but we felt safe and warm tucked away at Julia's Place.

    Talisa2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time at this cozy attic space. We felt totally at home, and the setting was beautiful. If you walk up the hill a wee bit, you get a great view of the sun setting over the sea. The place was warm and the bed was so comfy, so we got great sleeps, too. The surrounding area is magic, but it's hard to tear yourself away from the lovely home to go exploring, especially with the pool & hot tub which we used both evenings. Would definitely recommend this place & would come back when we're next in the Lake District.

    Beth2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay and had everything we needed. Checkin was super easy and the very spacious apartment was very clean and well heated throughout. We both slept extremely well, it's so quiet and the bed was excellent. After a day on the fells it was great to use the hot tub and pool to unwind. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend, our hosts were very quick to respond to queries and allowed us to store our mountain bikes in a shed which was most appreciated.

    Darren2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment was spotlessly clean, the bed was very comfy and the wood burning stove a lovely feature. The hot tub was a perfect temperature and really needed after a long day. Would definitely reccomend and would stay again.

  • The place is fantastic!! We had the most wonderful time there! It was such a quiet and relaxing place. Julia was very helpful and kind. Cartmel is a beautiful village, and we highly recommend you go and grab some sticky toffee pudding! ;)

We are offering two rooms on the second floor of our house. The main bedroom has a king-size bed , furniture, and an ensuite toilet/shower room. The second room can be used as a sitting room, or bedroom for two people . The second room has a small fridge and TV in it as well. We are 10 minutes walk from the centre of this lovely market town with plenty of shops, restaurants, pubs, and cafes and a short drive from the National Park and walking distance from the station. O
    - very quiet residential setting close to access to the countryside - an excellent local pub that is child-friendly with a large beer garden -There are a TV and fridge in the main second room plus tea & coffee facilities - 10 mins walk into the town centre for shops and restaurants.
Ulverston is a small market town on the edge of the Lake District. It is a friendly, busy town with a variety of shopping opportunities covering all sort of goods and some very interesting local shops which cover local goods from food to pictures to clothes. We are situated on the edge of town so it's a nice quiet area with easy access to the Lake District e.g 20 mins to Windermere, but its only a 10 min walk to the town centre.
  • Fantastic location for town and also for getting out walking in lush surroundings. Really great hosts who were brilliant at getting back to me, accommodating and friendly. You have the whole top floor to yourself, there is an en - suite, small fridge, tea/ coffee making facilities and a tv up there, you also have full use of their lovely kitchen. They are a very lovely, welcoming family, I would highly recommend a stay here!

This is a unique opportunity to step back in time and stay in a Romany gypsy caravan. With a full double bed, seating area, wood burning stove and outside fire pit. Full shower facilities with a small kitchen area.
Romany Rose is a traditional gypsy caravan with all the beautiful and unique features of a bygone era. The double bed is full size but due to its position on a raised platform is most comfortable for anyone 6 foot or less!
Romany Rose gypsy caravan is set at the head of the Cartmel Valley, 3 miles from the historic village of Cartmel with its beautiful priory and regular race meets on its very own race course. The southend of lake Windermere is just 2 miles along the road with boat trips, steam train rides and an aquarium.
  • Lovely location and everything you need ! Went for dinner into Cartmel which was a lovely village and then went to the swan for a spa day after our sleep in this beautiful caravan. Will be coming again when the weather is nice to take advantage of the fire pit but the rainy weather added to the beauty of this little gem

The Farmhouse is a characterful, white washed 17th century farmhouse set in a secluded 1.2 acres of woodland with private lake access (shared with two other cottages) leading to the beautiful waters of lake Coniston. Situated in an enviable spot, the cottage is an ideal place for couples, families or small groups, to come and unwind in the peaceful surroundings and explore the Lakes by foot, bike or boat. As from January 2020 there will be building work going on at house opposite weekdays only
The Farmhouse has been re-furbished to a high standard with a new kitchen, carpets, family bathroom with roll top bath, shower room and thermostatically controlled central heating. The period feel has been sympathetically maintained with exposed beams in all rooms, cast iron wood burning stove in an original fire place setting, antique furniture and even a 300 year old bread oven. The cottage has two generous bedrooms, one with a king size bed and wash basin, the other with twin beds. In addition, there are two bathrooms, a spacious lounge with wood burner, piano, flat screen TV and DVD player, kitchen/diner with iPod dock, Wifi and CD player /radio, porch and large ground floor cloakroom area. A private foot path leads from the front door directly to a large grassy area (perfect for children and pets to play) and a private beach where boats/canoes can be launched or barbecues and picnics enjoyed. The footpath and beach are shared with two other adjoining cottages only. Please note, there is no enclosed private garden as such but there is plenty of grassy space down by the lake for your children (or dogs) to let off steam. This is fenced either side leading down to the lake with a path leading up to the cottage on one side and lake on the other. Other numerous footpaths can be accessed easily from the cottage, following lakeside routes to the lovely village of Coniston or fanning out over the stunning scenery of Blawith Common. Coniston village with it's shops, pubs and other amenities is only 4 miles away and other lakeland villages, towns and tourist attractions are all within easy reach. A selection of children's / adults books, DVD's, games and maps are all available at the cottage for you to use. Use of barbecue. Cot and high chair available on request. Prices include electric, all bed linen, towels, BBQ charcoal and logs for stove (extra available to buy locally).

She could literally not have done more for us and even left a bottle of champers when finding out it was my birthday. I would recommend for anyone to stay here looking for a holiday in the lakes.

  • This newly renovated Air Bnb is a lovely place to relax and feel home. Kathryn and Jon are very warm and welcoming, as well as respectful of your privacy. They have provided a super collection of DVDs in case of rainy days! The indoor space is tastefully decorated and the outdoor space is beautiful with birds to observe if you sit quietly by the little pond.

  • Kathryn is the perfect host with a wonderful apartment for use. The place is literally sparkling clean with a modern kitchen and bathroom. We used the twin beds and, although they did feel on the small side, were good and comfortable. Spark Bridge is close to the main Lake District tourist spots whilst being far enough away to be more peaceful. Kathryn also keeps an extremely well stocked tourist information area in the apartment which is very useful when planning trips out. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will be recommending the place to friends and family and even hope to return ourselves in the future!

a lovely, self-contained building, overlooking the garden at Broughton House. Well equipped kitchen, sitting room, sunny verandah, double bedroom, shower room - do your own cooking, or dine out in Cartmel
  • We had a lovely stay at Cate's Garden House. It was well equipped and the bed was very comfy. Cate also left delicious shortbread and brownies for us, a thoughtful touch! It was a cosy place to stay on a very rainy night!

  • Lovely little spot. Went walking round the lakes all weekend good location for the southern/eastern fells and not far from Cartmel. Really enjoyed it and lovely touch leaving us fresh eggs for breakfast! Rounded off a perfect weekend, Greg and Siobhan

  • Had a lovely stay with Cate in the Lake District. Beautiful brownies, shortbread and fresh valley water on arrival. Loved the fact she had a 2CV when I showed up in my Morris Minor. Amazing shower too!! 😍

  • We had a wonderfully cosy stay at Cate's place. She made us feel very welcome and we had everything we needed. Her homemade shortbread and brownies were a delicious, thoughtful touch! She provided lots of local tips on places to eat and was there both to welcome us and wave us off in person. The place was both comfortable and clean. Thanks Cate! 😊

  • Cate's garden house was lovely and very cosy. The shower is wonderful and the bed very comfy. Cate has been very helpful and responsive all along and always happy to help. The gardens are absolutely gorgeous and full of birds. Finally, the homemade brownie and shortbread were delicious and a very nice touch! Highly recommended to anyone spending time in the Lakes. Twin en-suite rooms available on the shores of Lake Windermere. Great value for money accommodation in the Lake District. Only a short trip from the A590 and M6, YMCA Lakeside makes for a great location to access the lakes and beyond. With a private shoreline for launching kayaks and canoes, easy access to local fells and minutes away from attractions at Lakeside - including Windermere Lake Cruises, Steam Train, Aquarium and the Lakeside Hotel & Spa.
Located at YMCA Lakeside, an outdoor education centre for children, young people and adults, our twin rooms offer affordable accommodation in a prime location. While our rooms might be basic, they are a great place to sleep between adventures! Our rooms are comfortable, warm and very clean. We can even offer various activities on site including Kayaking, Canoeing, Climbing and Archery. As a busy Outdoor Education Cente, it is likely there will be lots of young people around during the day participating in the various activities we offer - so be aware of the occasional scream from a child at the top of the zipline!
On the shores of Lake Windermere with unrestricted views across the lake, YMCA Lakeside offers a remote secluded location away from the hustle and bustle of regular tourist traffic. Only a few minutes away from the villages of Lakeside & Hawkshead there is easy access to local shops and cafes. On route to the village of Lakeside you'll pass the English Hertiage site of the Bobbin Mill, a popular historical tourist destination.
  • The room was clean, comfortable and quiet. Very good value for a private en suite room in a hostel. The location is very convenient for exploring the South Lakes. Just one complaint - the listing states there is WiFi but it doesn't work in the room, presumably because it is too weak (my phone couldn't see the network). My friend managed to get it to work in the car park. The phone signal is very poor, so don't plan to be needing good Internet during your stay.

    Beth2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Clean and warm rooms, including shower. Great view of the lake

    Hayley2020-02-19T00:00:00Z

  • Very convenient location and overall good experience.

  • Great place to stay if you're on a budget. Would definitely return

    Ben2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • The place is magnificent, the superb shores of the lake and the hikes around are clearly worth the detour. The hostel is practical and has everything you need. A little more heating in the room would have been perfect, but I would not hesitate to come back!

    Julie2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • It’s near the lakeside. And it’s not expensive hahaha 😆 The room is big and clean, love it

    Sukey2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Great spot for wildlife watching.. we saw a family of otters playing around the jetty and lots of birds. Great walks along the beautiful shoreline, so tranquil and great for walking the dog. Fantastic view of the lake from our room. Very clean and warm room and basic but more than adequate facilities. You won’t find better value on the shore of Windermere. We recommend it and will be back.

Only five minutes from both Ulverston and Lake Windermere, this cottage is in the perfect spot for exploring the Lake District. It is set in a peaceful lofty village, overlooking Morecambe bay to one side and the Mountains, lakes and forest to another. Built in the 1800s and still with original features but recently renovated, the cottage is equipped with everything you might need for a perfect comfortable getaway... The best of both worlds!
Perfectly suited for a couple, or a small family or group of adults. The house is very spacious and whilst there is room and beds for up to 6, we find it works best with no more than 4 adults. This is also in respect of the friendly neighbours and peaceful area we are lucky to be part of. Facilities include - large smart TV, freeview, fast speed WiFi, central heating and two log fires, double glazing, comfy sofas, fully fitted kitchen including double oven and dishwasher, microwave, fridge freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer. Bathroom has wc, wash basin, bath and electric shower. Sleeping arrangements - The two double bedrooms are of good size, and we have a lovely attic room with almost a sea view (on your tip toes!) We also have a day bed in the entrance room. House layout - This is a period house with original features such as exposed wood beams and cottage doors. On the ground floor, we have a porch, an entrance room, cosy living room and small office area. On the second floor, we have the two bedrooms, bathroom and large airy kitchen-diner with farmhouse door. On the top floor we have the converted attic room. Outdoors - We have a lovely garden with a table for 4, seating and grass area for playing. Food and toiletries - We stock the house with most of the basics you might need for the first day or two (tea and coffee, toilet and kitchen roll, cleaning product, etc). All clean bedding and towels are included. Local area - We are part of a very small and peaceful village and accordingly please respect this. Access - Note that due to the original features of the cottage including uneven and narrow staircases, beams on ceilings and steep inclines by the side of the house, this may be unsuitable for older or less able people. Pets - You are welcome to bring up to 2 well behaved dogs into the cottage, there will be an additional charge of 10 pounds per dog per stay (or £30 if booking for a full week). Please send us a message to confirm. Parking - Free parking outside the property and plenty of space further up the road for additional cars.
In Penny Bridge village, life is slow, and people are friendly. In this small village, within 5 minutes walk from the house you have ... Two pubs serving real ales and great food, the best bakery in the lakes, a post office, a Butchers, a newsagents, Morecambe bay estuary, a pizza restaurant, an award winning chippy, countless walks and stunning views. We are also on the start of the bay cycle route and there are lots of jogging and walking routes. There is so much to do but this is also the perfect village to simply do nothing! It can be nice to just relax in the garden and enjoy the beautiful scenery. The historic market town of Ulverston is just 5-8 minutes drive from the cottage. Here there are lots of beer gardens, walks, markets, beach, views, shops and restaurants. Within 10-20 minutes drive from the cottage, you can access some of the most famous places in the Lake District: - Cartmel - Bowness on Windermere (or you can take a 40 minute boat ride) - Coniston - Barrow in Furness - Grange over sands - Morecambe bay - Hundreds of walks and pubs and restaurants Local attractions in this area include- Lakeside and haverthwaite railway, Cartmel races, Holker hall, Lake cruises on Windermere, South lakes wildlife park, Old hall farm bouth, Lakeland motor museum, Fell foot, Steam yacht gondola, Dalton castle, Laurel and hardy museum, The sir John barrow monument, Conishead priory From the cottage, you also make a day trip to all the major Lake District attractions: Grasmere (40 mins) Wordsworth, Ullswater (1 hour), Ambleside (30 mins) Beatrix potter and Rookin house, Kendal (30 mins) sizergh, grizedale forest and go ape, Keswick, thirlmere and derwent water (1 hour) and Lancaster (40 mins).
  • You can expect a lovely location and a beautiful cottage which is furnished to a high standard with lovely touches.

  • The cottage was fantastic for a short break over new year. Fantastic for dogs, especially the walk over the the estuary. Very hospitable pub a few doors down who made us feel really welcome. Recommend this place for both the lakes and the beaches on the Barrow coastal route.
