  • A cute little cottage in a beautiful area if you like walking in the hills and along the canal. Little living area, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom, all you need for a few days away. A warm welcome by Nick with some fresh bread ready to eat was a nice addition to it.

  • Really cosy cottage, within walking distance to a few pubs and a short drive into Stroud. Highly recommend the food at the kings head! There was locally sourced milk and butter when we arrived, as well as amazing homemade bread - really nice touch. The cottage has two TVs, a puzzle (which came in handy one rainy afternoon) and well stocked kitchen cooking utensils etc. The shower is also amazing! Really great cottage.

  • Beautiful cottage and location. Nick was a great host.

  • Lovely place a lovely village, the apartment was sparkling clean and cosy. Would definitely visit again and recommend to others

  • Nick is an absolutely fantastic host! He was so responsive when we had some diversions due to road works and the small touches of homemade bread, local butter, and eggs were incredible. The cottage was a fantastic location to explore the Cotswolds, we loved our long weekend away. 10/10 would recommend.

  • We loved this cottage, perfect for two and easy for a family with two children. Perfect location for visiting the Cotswolds. It is possible to arrive by car to the entrance of the cottage, but only for loading and unloading, there is the possibility of parking nearby. The host left eggs, butter, fresh milk and homemade bread in the fridge. We appreciated this kindness, especially the morning after breakfast! The cottage really has everything you need and a warm and relaxing atmosphere that makes every return home pleasant. We left our hearts at the Cherub cottage and hope to return soon!

  • I visited cherub cottage with my husband and small dog for 2 nights. The cottage was perfect, it was cosy and spotlessly clean and had all the mod cons. A lovely touch was the organic eggs milk and home made bread which was greatly received. We spent the first day walking around the village . The village is built on a steep hill so remember when you walk downhill you have to walk back up!!. We had a great meal in the evening at the Crown in Frampton Mansell which is dog Friendly. The following day we walked the dog along the canal in Chalford where you will see some stunning houses with streams running by the gardens. We then stopped off at the Lavender bake house where I ate the best ever carrot cake , we then went into the quirky village of Nailsworth which has lots of charity shops and boutiques. We spent our Last day in the Cotswolds in Bibury a stunning location on the river with a beautiful street of old weavers cottages , there is also a trout farm that is open to the public , and has an outside heated cafe serving trout dishes, cakes and drinks . We then went on to Burford which had lots of unusual art shops and antique shops and dog friendly pubs . We ate in the Mermaid ( very good pub food) This was our first time using air b & b and what A good experience we would love to visit cherub cottage again . .

Three steps lead up to a larger patio area with stunning views of the surrounding countryside and the market town of Stroud. This private, sunny space has an outdoor table, two chairs and a wooden bench, perfect for relaxing on warm summer days. Encircled by five sweeping valleys opening out to the River Severn and made famous by Laurie Lee's novel "Cider with Rosie", the scenery is dramatic around Stroud. The town and its surrounding villages provide a great base from which to explore the undiscovered south Cotswolds, as well as for day trips to Bristol and Bath. London is just a 90 minute direct train away. At a time when the prevalence of chain stores has turned many of Britain's High Streets into copies of each other, Stroud is a welcome relief. With a bohemian vibe and an enviable array of independent shops, Stroud offers a unique shopping experience unrivalled by any town or city in the locality. Brimming with character and standing amidst the dramatic backdrop of the Five Valleys, Stroud has an eclectic mix of shops in the most beautiful of settings. The award-winning Farmers' Market is held each Saturday and is one of the best in the country, described by Jasper Conran as "the Covent Garden of the Cotswolds". Throughout the summer months, street performers will entertain you every Saturday morning and there is a full programme of music and theatre throughout the year – a true hub of cultural events. Stroud is a place that repays investigation, especially for the quality and variety of artists at work in the area – you could also choose to take part in one of the many traditional workshops! Food & Drink Stroud has numerous places to eat and drink, with a range of cuisines and prices to suit all tastes and budgets. The list below is a small sample of the range of options available: JRooL Bistro (www.jrool.co.uk): JRooL Bistro is a fine example of the sum of its parts being greater than the whole. The team has a passion for food and wine, such that the end result is an experience of food, wine and service that is, simply, award winning. The flexibility of the dining room encourages leisurely family lunches, business dining, appetisers and drinks at the bar, pre-theatre dinners or a full gastronomic experience; No 23 Bar & Bistro: No 23 is a popular, independent Stroud Bar, Café and Restaurant, specialising in tapas and Mediterranean fare. The fully stocked bar serves choice wines, beers and aperitifs to complement the extensive menu; Sorrento Italian Restaurant (www.sorrentostroud.co.uk): The menu offers superb presentations of traditional favourites, such as pizzas, pasta, succulent steaks, chicken and fish dishes, all served in a relaxing, friendly environment. Stroud also has a wide range of food retailers, including an award winning Farmers' Market, held every Saturday.
  • Great, special and quirky space. Amenities were great and the place was sparkling clean, would definitely recommend and stay again. I imagine it would be spectacular in the summer. Jut watch out for stepping right onto quite a busy road where traffic comes roaring past. Parking was also tricky.

    Lou2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Property was lovely and perfect for a few days away. Tip: don't park opposite the property as you will get a note from one of the neighbours, also take your own milk as this isn't provided. Great stay and great location.

    Joanne2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully decorated, great homely feel and everything we needed for a comfortable stay.

    Anna2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a lovely stay at the cottage and it’s more beautiful in real life with an amazing view. Would definitely recommend and return. Not much off street parking but we didn’t mind parking down the hill and walking up. Worth a visit for sure!

    Eleanor2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful winter break at Butterrow gate. The property is gorgeous, very quirky and has everything you need. It is also clean and well presented. The location is great for exploring Stroud and other local villages. The tips provided by the host were perfect. We loved the farmer’s market, the antiques mill and local walks. It is worth noting that the property is on a busy road and you may be kept awake by traffic if you are a light sleeper. We slept like logs from all of the walking! Xx

    Lucy2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I stayed at the cottage for a week while exploring the Cotswolds. It was such a lovely place to stay. It is exactly as it looks in the pictures small and super cozy and wonderful. We had a really good time. The place was in a good location if you had a car to explore all the surrounding towns. Without a car the cottage it a little but above the town and therefore is a bit less accessible. Contact with character cottages was easy, check in and out was no issue. The only negative feedback is that the place was a little low on essentials. When we arrived there wasn’t any coffee for the coffee machine and there were no other supplies for cooking other than olive oil. However the kitchen is very sweet and easy to use for home cooked meals. We also weren’t informed beforehand that the washer and dryer machine didn’t work and didn’t find this out till arriving, I thought this would have been great to be told earlier in order to organise our washing. Otherwise the place was the picture perfect cottage and we would definitely stay there again. I would definitely recommend a visit for anyone considering it.

  • We loved our weekend in Pear Tree Cottage; a delightful retreat. It was warm and very comfortable, and suited the four of us beautifully. We enjoyed cooking in the very well equipped kitchen, and eating in the pretty dining room. Two miles or so from Minchinhampton with pubs (we ate a very good meal at The Crown) and shops, Cherington itself is a lovely Cotswolds village with walks from the door - the countryside around magical with hoar frosts on the 2 days we were there.

    Paul2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Pear Tree Cottage gives you everything you need for a perfect Cotswolds stay. For our winter stay it was cosy & utterly charming. A really delightful place.

    Lindsay2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic cottage in a lovely little village. We were welcomed at the cottage by Kevin who showed us around and let us know he was available should we need any help at all. There is a lovely log burning fire with enough wood supplied to use for one night, we bought more wood from a supermarket ten minutes drive away.

    Georgina2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful little cottage in the cotswolds. Perfect location for exploring the rest of the area. Lovely clean and cosy cottage with a wonderful fire for the evenings. Would highly recommend

Minchinhampton is a very attractive, thriving hilltop town, situated on a tongue of high land between the Golden Valley and the Nailsworth Valley, 1.5 miles north east of Nailsworth. The town also sits on the eastern fringes of Minchinhampton Common, high above the valleys that were once prosperous with the production of cloth. The centre of Minchinhampton is a picture-postcard image of what people expect of a small Cotswold town, with a selection of nice shops and places to eat. The town is centred on its High Street and old Market Square, the main feature of which is the late 17th century Market House, supported on stone columns. The interesting Holy Trinity Church dates from the 12th century and has a truncated spire looking over the Market Square. The church was given to Caen's Abbaye aux Dames by William the Conqueror and then in 1415 passed to Syon Abbey, in whose hands it remained until the Dissolution. Minchinhampton Common is a large area of open grassland with spectacular views over the Stroud and Nailsworth valleys. The area is owned by National Trust and is an important archaeological landscape, with prehistoric field systems, burial mounds and the remains of a defensive earthwork, known as The Bulwarks. In the summer the Commons are grazed by local commoners' cattle. The area covers 635 acres and is renowned for its colourful array of wild flowers and butterflies. Food & Drink For a small market town, Minchinhampton is fortunate to be blessed with a number of good places to eat and drink: The Crown Inn (https://www.thecrown-minchinhampton.com/): Roaring fires, a restaurant serving up locally inspired flavours, and a cellar stocked full of craft ales, fine wines, and fizz - when it comes to Cotswold country pubs, The Crown Inn is the perfect place to meet, eat, and make great memories. The Ragged Cot (www.theraggedcot.co.uk): Perched high on the Cotswolds outside the ancient market town of Minchinhampton sits the Ragged Cot, a country inn getaway created for serious pleasure seekers. Born of a 17th century coaching house inn set beside six hundred acres of National Trust common land the Ragged Cot is a pretty special place with an intriguing history of highwaymen and pilferage. The proprietors of the Ragged Cot take pride in their professional approach to food and service, with the seasonal menu offering great British food sourced from local farmers and even their own vegetable garden. With dishes such as seared ox tongue with pickled red cabbage, pheasant with braised leeks and artichoke puree or just simply ham, eggs with triple cooked chips you will always find a dish to fit; The Kitchen (www.thekitchenminchinhampton.co.uk): Choose a seat by the beautiful bay window and watch for riders trotting by on horseback or perhaps the occasional herd of cows strolling down from the Common. Serving delicious breakfasts, morning and afternoon teas, and lunches, all the locally sourced food is prepared fresh daily; The Old Lodge, Minchinhampton Common (www.food-club.com/old-lodge.htm): The Old Lodge is beautifully located in the centre of Minchinhampton Common. With unrivalled views of the Cotswolds, this 400 year old hunting lodge is the perfect place to escape the rush. Enjoy quality, locally sourced food served in the restaurant, the bar area, one of the smaller dining rooms or al fresco in the spacious garden. The stunning restaurant accommodates parties of up to 85 people seated and has floor to ceiling windows that look directly onto Minchinhampton Common. Minchinhampton also has an excellent butcher's shop and an organic cheese shop: L Taylor & Sons (www.taylorsminchinhampton.com): For nearly a century L Taylor and Sons has been supplying the highest quality meat to discerning customers. The quality of the shop has been recognised with a Cotswold Life Butcher of the year award; Woefuldane Organic Dairy (www.woefuldanedairy.co.uk): All the products are made by hand in the farm dairy in time honoured ways. The unpasteurised cheeses change throughout the seasons as the milk varies depending on what the cows are eating.

  • Had a lovely stay in Little Culver. All was as advertised - plenty of space for 5 people, very comfortable and stylish. Loved the original features of the house. Thoughtful touches like chocolates and biscuits on arrival were appreciated and the key safe made our arrival stress-free as travelling from London. Would definitely stay again if travelling to the Cotswolds.

  • A beautiful house In the quiet quintessential English village of Minchinhampton. We rocked up with 5 people and found there to be plenty of room for everyone. The Garden was well kept and a really chilled out place to hangout in the sunshine. No negative comments here! The one thing I would say is to bring cash with you because many of the local establishments don’t take cards.

The area remains affluent, which has encouraged the establishment of many high quality pubs, restaurants and antique shops.
  • The cottage was very comfortable and cosy with everything we needed for a lovely weekend break.

  • A gorgeous cottage with lots of character and stunning views. We had a lovely cosy weekend with fires (make sure you pick up enough kindling from the local supermarket) and walks through the woods (wellies necessary!) to the pub, finished off with brunch in the well set up kitchen. Be prepared to climb a very steep hill if your car can’t make it up!

    Laura2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Grange Cottage is very comfortable, warm and cosy. It is a classic Cotswolds cottage with great views over the valley opposite. The location, while up a very steep hill, was excellent - - a short walk through the wood to the fantastic Amberley Inn - - and no issue with access with our car. The log burner was a welcome addition on the cold evenings we spent there.

  • Thank you so much for a wonderful stay in your fabulous cottage. It was a beautiful warm, cosy and very clean property with views to die for! I cannot thank you enough for sending back our Google Chromecast so quickly after we left it behind in the property, it arrived in the post today. That is what I call a first class service! Funny thing was that we didn’t even need it as Netflix was already provided. I would like to highly recommend Character Cottages for anyone looking for a quiet and peaceful getaway.

    Sachin2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage had everything you could ask for - 4 beautiful bedrooms with lovely clean bed linen and comfortable beds. Fantastic views and a cosy log fire with idyllic walks around the area. It was very quiet and peaceful and just what we needed as four mums trying to get some relaxation time away from hectic lives and young children. We couldn’t recommend it highly enough. Thank you!

    Caroline2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful house located on a serene hill. Quaint details were added throughout the house which made the experience all the more wonderful. The place was super clean! The only downside is that it is located on a very steep hill & a bit too narrow & difficult to drive up. It was a very good stay regardless :)

    Maznan2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place to stay. Fantastic views. Cottage up a steep hill. Pleasant walks from the cottage. Low ceilings but that's to be expected when you consider when it was built.

    Mark2019-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • Brilliant cottage, all as described! Even though it rained quite literally the ENTIRE stay, we didn’t really notice because the house was so nice and had everything we needed! Thank you!

  • Jane lovely host she couldnt do enough for us during our stay

    Lewis2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • One of our best stays! Janes home is welcoming, spotless and comfortable. Jane is a very welcoming host. I loved this stay!

    Chloe2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Jane is delightful, a lovely fun lady, and I really enjoyed her company. Her home is beautiful, tastefully decorated to a high standard, in a quiet hamlet location with beautiful Cotswold stone homes. I didn't use the guest lounge but it was lovely and a wonderful amenity for anyone staying more than one night. My satnav took me a very convoluted way but I soon realised that the hamlet is close to a larger village with friendly pubs offering food. I would love to return in summer to explore properly. My only very minor complaint is that the ad could make it clearer that the hosts are in fact a couple, as I (and many other single female travellers) tend to feel more comfortable with female hosts as a first preference. Highly recomnended.

    Ruth2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Jane and Tony have a lovely home and certainly made me most welcome. Whilst the downstairs guest lounge looked awfully inviting I opted for an early night. The bedroom’s decor is beautiful in the duck egg blue and white. Along with the thoughtful little touches everywhere, it’s a gorgeous cosy little space to hunker down for the night. I would certainly recommend but try get there before nightfall as it can be a bit tricky to find in the dark.

    Niki2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Welcoming host, lovely room and facilities, exceptionally clean and reasonably priced. Would certainly recommend

There is a good pub within walking distance and many footpaths for exploring the village. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay!

  • Neil was a fantastic host. We had the best time time hiding away from storm Dennis snuggled up by the fire. The welcome hamper was so lovely and the cottage itself definetly did not disappoint. Thank you for a great stay.

The Retreat is situated on Woodchester Valley Vineyard in the Cotswolds, close to Stroud and 1 mile from Nailsworth town with many restaurants, walks, shops and supermarkets. It offers spacious accommodation with stunning views over the valley, a fully equipped kitchen, log burners in both the kitchen and sitting rooms as well as the full sky TV package in 2 separate rooms. As this is adjacent to a working vineyard, regrettably no children under the age of 12 can be accommodated.
The master bedroom offers a super king size bed which can be made into twin beds upon request.
We are located 1.5 miles from the bustling town of Nailsworth, which has an abundance of restaurants, cafés and pubs for breakfast, brunch and dinner options. We are 3.5 miles from the market town of Stroud which boasts one of the best farmers markets in the country every Saturday. The spa towns of Cheltenham and Bath are within 45 minutes, and the area is very popular with walkers, cyclists and those looking for a base from which to explore the South Cotswolds.
  • We had such a wonderful stay here. Although there are only two bedrooms the communal space feels like the house is much larger. There are gorgeous log burners and the house is lovely and warm. We stayed for Christmas and the host had set up a beautiful Christmas tree with lights for us, and couldn't have been more helpful with various changes and questions we had in the run up. Thanks to you all and we hope to come again this year!

  • A beutiful house with outstanding views. Well equiped, cozy and clean.

  • Had a fantastic stay at the retreat. A beautiful house with lovely views. It was incredibly spacious for just 4 people. The bathrooms and bedrooms are beautifully appointed with large showers and baths. Great enclosed garden for our little dog and also big garden out the front to enjoy. You are literally staying within the vineyards. We did the wine tasting tour at the vineyard, which we thoroughly enjoyed! Woodchester valley wines were superb! The tasting room is next door to the property. There are some great pubs nearby but not within walking distance. A lovely place to stay if you like wine and want a relaxing time! Highly recommend!

    Emily2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic location, incredible views, great facilities and space. A very quiet and secluded house in a stunning location, with amazing views across the valley. Tremendously peaceful and restorative.

    Alex2019-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • This place has the wow factor. The pictures don’t do it justice. The living room and kitchen are both huge and are great entertaining spaces. The kitchen and the living room both open out onto the front garden and drive which was perfect as the weather was so good when we visited! The bedrooms were a great size and exactly what we needed. It is a tad steep if you’re walking up, but it was generally fine and if you can’t be bothered with that then the local taxis were more than happy to take us home. The view over the hills is also fantastic - such a nice view to wake up to. Highly recommended. Gail was really helpful in the lead up to our visit and throughout!

Sunny, double room in a tall Victorian end of terrace. Perfect for those who want a cosy base right in the centre of Stroud. Breakfast is 'help yourself'. In a big busy, friendly, family, cosy home, with kids, 2 lodgers, cats and fish. Warm welcome assured
Small sunny double bedroom This room on the 3rd floor contains a 4ft 6" double bed, bedside shelves, a hanging rail, a corner desk with lamp and a stool. There is an eco radiator or fan depending on time of year. The shared bathroom is a half landing away with a bath, electric shower, loo and sink. There's another loo next door to the bathroom too. A breakfast of tea/coffee, cereal, toast and fruit juice is included in the price if you stay less than a week (you help yourself). If you're here longer then please provide your own food (our generous discount reflects this). You are welcome to use the kitchen for cooking. We have WIFI which you are welcome to use. The house is a large family and shared 'end of terrace Victorian' home. Its a mixture of classic, contemporary and growing children style. We have 3 cats, lots of fish, several children/young adults and lodgers. The house is by no means 'perfect' - guests can expect a clean and tidy room, with the rest of the house cleaned professionally weekly and kitchen/bathrooms attended to more often. We pride ourselves on a warm relaxed atmosphere for both family and guests which doesn't equate to minimalist immaculate surroundings. Please note there are lots of stairs, so the kitchen is in the basement and the bedroom is 3 floors above.. We're right in central Stroud, minutes from the station and all the shops and restaurants. Parking is available behind the house or on street in front of the house (visitors permit needed except in the evenings and on Sundays). We look forward to welcoming you to our home.
Stroud is an 'alternative' town with interesting shops and cafes, alongside some of the usual high street shops. The countryside round about is particularly lovely and there are many walks that can be done from the house. We're ideally placed for the award winning Saturday farmers market, Stroud Subscription Rooms, Centre of Arts and Science and Lansdown Hall (all within 3-7 minutes walk).
  • Really lovely room and Natasha was really welcoming.

  • Natasha's house has a lovely lived-in feeling and is full of character and I loved looking at all her artwork on the walls. While there were several people in the house (as well as cats, fish and the newest addition to the family, a cute labradoodle puppy!), it is big enough for you to find a quiet space when you want it. The bedroom while small was adequate for my needs and the comfortable bed gave me a good night's sleep. The location of her house is great, only a minute's walk to the town centre on a fairly quiet road. Stroud is lovely with lots of quirky and creative shops to browse and lots of friendly people to help you on your way - a great community spirit!

Walkley Wood Cottage is a charming Grade II listed Bath stone property set over 4 floors. With 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, the cottage sleeps 4 (3 adults or 2 adults and 2 children is the most comfortable configuration). Enjoying a peaceful elevated position, Walkley Wood boasts beautiful views of the surrounding valley and neighbouring Cotswold stone properties. The cottage welcomes two, well-behaved dogs*.
*Dogs: Up to 2 well-behaved dogs are welcome at the cottage at an additional cost of £30 per dog. Please let us know if you will be bringing a dog(s) and we will then revise your booking confirmation. Introduction As you approach Walkley Wood Cottage through the winding lanes of Nailsworth, you will notice how the town and surrounding properties are almost hidden by the secluded woodland valley to the east of Stroud. Proudly perched on the side of sleepy Shortwood Road is Walkley Wood Cottage, a distinguished 19th century property with rustic golden stone that immediately casts a warm and welcoming aura. Ideally situated, this cottage is the perfect base for exploring the tranquillity of the surrounding Stroud Valleys and the wider Cotswolds, while guests are also in easy walking distance of the cheerfully eclectic town of Nailsworth. If you’re looking for somewhere to totally relax and unwind, then Walkley Wood is the perfect Cotswold home for you. As you approach the cottage through the cast iron gate and down the stone steps, you will notice a small outdoor table and chairs set down from the lane behind the dry-stone wall. Guests are welcome to sit outside and enjoy the warmth of the summer months in this compact but delightful sun trap. You may find yourself admiring the beautiful architecture and delicate Georgian windows, this cottage was, after all, built in 1852. Although the exact history of the cottage remains largely a mystery, it has been suggested that the building may have been used as a pub many years ago, which could explain the origins of the kitchen skylight. Either way, it’s nice to consider that many happy memories have been created within these historic walls! Inside, Walkley Wood really is the perfect holiday home. Devoid of fussiness and frill, Karen has struck the perfect balance between homely-cosy comfort and refreshing simplicity. Each floor is brought to life by a sprinkling of quirky vintage features, while guests can simultaneously enjoy a bright and Scandinavian-inspired minimalist feel. The living room is the real heart of the property. A log-burning stove immediately creates a wonderful cosy atmosphere, with soft blankets and cushions scattered over furniture to help guests make themselves feel at home. Just a short walk away is the artistic town of Nailsworth, a gem in the heart of the Cotswold valleys. A largely overlooked town, Nailsworth has a fantastic and unspoiled selection of boutiques, bars, pubs and cafes, and really does offer some of the best food for miles around. You will find the hair dryer in a top drawer of the chest. A curtained-off hanging area makes for a unique open-plan wardrobe, ensuring there’s enough space for you to unpack and relax, while the room retains a lovely snug feel. Outside Walkley Wood Cottage enjoys use of the small gravel/paved courtyard at the front of the house. There is a small patio table and two chairs that guests may use for breakfast, lunch or an evening glass of wine if they wish! If you are looking to stretch your legs further, there are plenty of beautiful walks and open fields surrounding Walkley Wood Cottage, just see ‘Walks’ in the Guidebook.
Nailsworth town centre is just a simple 10-15 minute walk from Walkley Wood Cottage, see the map in the ‘Need to Knows’ section. In the town centre you will find a Morrisons open Mon–Sat 7am – 9pm, and Sun 10am-4pm. There is also a small Tesco Express store with a Post Office counter inside, open every day 6am-11pm. Minnow Cottage is a quaint 200 year old Cotswold cottage set on a little stream in the charming and quirky village of Chalford . Although petite in stature, the cottage oozes character with low ceilings and beams and has all the qualities needed if you are looking for a rural retreat or romantic break. There is a village shop, pub, cafe and gift shop all within a few minutes walk. The property has parking and all the amenities to make it a great base from which to explore the Cotswolds.
Minnow Cottage is a three story detached cottage , with ample parking and a private garden. It's great for walkers with the Cotswold canal a stones throw away. With pretty gardens front and rear you'll be able to enjoy the idyllic waterside location and abundance of wildlife that inhabit the valley.
The historic Thames and Severn Canal runs through Chalford valley , and the hill sides are dotted with old cottages much like an Alpine village. Local attractions include Stroud's award winning Farmers Market which takes place every Saturday. Slad Valley, immortalised by Laurie Lee in 'Cider with Rosie' is just a short drive away, as are Painswick Rococo Gardens, Prinknash Abbey, Berkeley Castle, Sudeley Castle, Westonbirt Arboretum, Woodchester Park Mansion. Cheltenham is a 25 minute drive away and the historic Roman city of Bath 45 minutes by car. The area is conveniently situated for access to a number of major events including Gatcombe Horse Trials, Badminton, Kemble and Fairford Air Shows, Cheltenham Races and Literary and Music Festivals.
  • This is a fantastic cosy cottage that looks just as good in person as it does in the pictures. The stream outside is picturesque, as is the outside view over the hills. The inside of the cottage is just as good - it was everything that we had wished for in a weekend away by the fire.

  • Really rather lovely place, very cosy and a perfect place to spend a couple of nights on our honeymoon. We had a great walk thanks to the useful walking tips and map left by the host and staying in by the wood burner was just as much of a pleasure :) Great kitchen and amenities too Highly recommend for a cosy, peaceful getaway.

My place is in Old Bussage, it is a beautiful area, in one of the five picturesque valley's of Stroud, and is 20 minutes from Historic Gloucester with the docks, and Charming Cheltenham with its fine architecture and shops. Only 30 minutes from Bourton-on-the-Water and the Slaughters, and Stow on the Wold, the heart of the Cotswolds. Plenty of restaurants and dining in pubs, some in walking distance and lots more by car.
It is a very good area for walking.
  • Great experience. The hosts were very accommodating - not only allowing us to check in early but even giving us a lift to a wedding in a nearby village. The rooms and bathroom were spotlessly clean, and breakfast was much appreciated in the morning. Christine always responded to messages promptly. Excellent hosts and I'd definitely use again if in the area. Thank you.

    Sandra2019-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • We greatly enjoyed our stay at Christine’s house. She was very welcoming and looked after us. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Thanks!

    João Olavo2018-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • Very friendly hosts and the house is in a nice spot with great views and very pleasant pub just along the road. Just what we needed for our night away.

    Richard2018-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • The location is in the mountains, do not drive the night road by car, it is too dangerous. There are no shops nearby. It is reported that there is a supermarket one kilometer away, but we did not go. The mobile phone has no signal. The landlord's home is super-British style, collecting a lot of cups, and the special petty bourgeoisie is a full set of beautiful porcelain, which is very suitable for girls' heart. Can satisfy all your fantasies about the old English gentleman lady.

    加扬2018-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • Very comfortable. Christine was an excellent host and made us feel very welcome. We were given plenty of suggestions as to what to do in the area. I would thoroughly recommend a stay.

Welcome to my flat in Stroud town centre! We are opposite the train station and the bustling town where you have all the local shops and services on your doorstep. The room is nicely lit and very quiet in spite of being so central as we are on the top floor of the apartment building. The studio lounge/kitchen is comfortable and warm and you are welcome to use the utilities such as tv and wifi..
I have a two bedroom flat with one bathroom and a studio kitchen/lounge.
  • Chris's flat is clean, quiet, safe, and very convenient if you would like to visit Stroud and the surrounding Cotswold region. Although it is within a few yards if the railway station and located in the centre of the village, it is set back from the street perfectly so that there is no noise whatsoever. The one large bedroom and adjoining bathroom were perfectly clean and the shower itself was hot, strong and really good after as long day out. His living/kitchen has all that you need to make a quick meal though there are also many little cafes and restaurants nearby - an advantage of being in the centre of town. I would strongly recommend Chris's flat for anyone looking to stay at an inexpensive BnB in the great little village of Stroud.

Great living space, we cooked a lot in the kitchen and slept well in a comfortable bed. Plenty of toiletries provided! Easy driving distance of some amazing country walks - Cranham woods and Cleeve Hill were our highlights. We would recommend visiting Stroud brewery for local ales and Toni’s Kitchen for amazing vegetarian/vegan food. Would highly recommend staying at Alayne and Mac’s beautiful place who were excellent hosts and helped us with anything we needed. Thanks!

A unique one bedroom detached stone cottage built in 1807, with far reaching views over the historic village of Avening to Gatcombe Wood. The recently refurbished house, with log burning stove, south facing lounge/kitchen/dining room, bedroom, en-suite and dry stone walled courtyard garden, will provide a cosy retreat. The cottage is available with a super king size bed. Alternatively, twin beds with prior notice. The kitchen is equipped with fridge, hob, oven, dishwasher and microwave.
We are lucky to enjoy two pubs in the village, both of which serve food, either to eat in or take away. Alternatively, you may wish to take advantage of the many cafes, bistros and restaurants in the neighbouring markets towns of Nailsworth and Tetbury. If you prefer to make use of the kitchen in the cottage, there are supermarkets, a farmers market and many independent shops within easy reach.
  • Little Pippins is a lovely hideaway in a picturesque village in the Cotswolds. Really cosy; the wood burner was perfect for our winter trip but can imagine the patio would be fantastic in summer. All with warm hospitality from Richard and Kelly. We had a lovely trip exploring the local area and the local pubs (check out The Bell for a great curry). Superb stay, thank you!

In the centre of beautiful Minchinhampton, this detached cosy cottage is open plan in design and tastefully renovated throughout with plenty of modern conveniences. Set in a quiet pretty garden, and with on site parking + Type 2 EV charger, this is a great getaway. CORVID19 means The Crown Inn is now a take away, just up the road, The Chip Shed across the street is highly recommended. Or you can cook and then relax in a comfy sofa to curl up with a book/TV/DVD, after walking the Cotswolds Way
The Coach House is a beautifully converted 16th century stables with modern open plan living embedded in a classic Cotswold cottage garden setting. We are in the centre of the charming village of Minchinhampton with its beautiful church with quirky crown capped spire and Cotswold stone as far as the eye can see. Arriving by car or train we can assist with on site parking or "Tesla taxi" service from Stroud station. After entering via a well gravelled path, with a courtyard style seating area, fine weather affords a beautiful al fresco table adjacent to your front door and looks onto the raised bed paved garden with a hammock available for watching the sun setting through the beech trees. Too breezy? you are welcome to enjoy a glass inside our conservatory, which catches the evening sun, (like the garden, this space is shared with us in the main house) .
The Old Swan Coach House is in the middle of the picturesque village of Minchinhampton. Visitors are generally delighted by the established Cotswold village feel, (this is an organically grown village, not a 2nd home centre) and its location for walks and the wider area attractions is considered a massive selling point. It is perhaps why Princess Anne chose the adjacent Gatcombe estate for her wonderful residence. Minchinhampton Common is a few minutes walk and provides a wonderful "big sky" airy clean open space for an early morning or evening walk. During the summer months it also supplies a procession of cows, some of which may occasionally wander past the house and up the high street. The common offers a wonderful, 130 years established, golf course that gives you the chance to observe skylarks, Adonis Blue butterflies, and a range of orchids on this ancient National Trust meadow land. I am a lapsed member and enjoyed the views and the natural hazards in equal measure. It is open to visitors and affords a kind of inland links course with no sand but plenty of natural hazards. https://minchinhamptonoldcourse.intelligentgolf.co.uk A visit to the common often includes sampling the delicious Winstones Ice cream that is made right there on the edge, just near the Bear of Rodborough "chicane". Nearby Stroud offers the award winning Farmer's Market every Saturday and a range of quirky "Stroudy" shops and people watching opportunities. Until November 2019 the Crown, Minchinhampton's only central pub was closed for 6 years and eating places required a drive for evening meals. Since November 8th the new owners, the Lucky Onion group, offer excellent dining and a welcoming pub. This is now a busy godsend to locals and visitors alike. Currently for the Crown, every night and lunch, and for most other restaurants within nearby range, for the busier weekends of the year, booking is mostly required. (Advice on request). Henry's Cafe and Peter and Assumpta's The Kitchen are in friendly competition for great local cafe coffee and light bites - both a very short walk from us in the high street. The Church is active and well liked, it has been recently reordered with underfloor heating and much more, and has an active bell ringing team. Practice is on Friday evenings starting at 8:00 and the Bells are quite likely to wake those sleeping in on a Sunday morning. Cheltenham racecourse being reasonably nearby, booking for Festival week (2nd week of March) needs good advance planning. Our local version of smart pricing applies. Minchinhampton is possibly most well known for the residence of Princess Anne whose annual Festival of Eventing in August https://www.festivalofbritisheventing.com/ attracts visitors from far and wide to Gatcombe. Around that time Minchinhampton hosts, longer than anywhere else, the marvellous Giffords Circus. It has been featured on the list of 50 things you must see before you die and brings crowds from miles around to the big top on the common. https://www.giffordscircus.com/ The National Trust owned Common is famous for its rare breed cows grazing from April to November and the beautiful "big sky" walks are a home to many a high flying skylark and the rare Adonis butterfly. The 130 year old Golf Club and the Old Lodge are popular spots situated in the middle of the common - all our local pubs are welcoming and worth a visit. Also visible throughout the year are gliders from the two astonishingly close local clubs, http://www.cotswoldgliding.co.uk/holiday_courses (where I learned to fly) and https://bggc.co.uk/ The views over the Cotswold edge can be stunning and the costs much lower than most imagine. (trial flights start from £95) From the Cirencester road to Minch, as you turn in to Aston Down airfield is "Jolly Nice" a fast growing organic shop and eatery that now occupies three yurts. The ice cream is superb and the speciality delicatessen has the best quality produce and fantastic gifts (at a price!) https://jollynicefarmshop.com/ Westonbirt Arboretum is a popular all year round visitor attraction just 9 miles to the south of us. Every Saturday the lively alternative scene that is Stroud Town hosts the oldest established Farmer's market, just 4 miles down in the valley. It is also a centre for every type of artist and alternative health practitioner.

  • Jen came out to greet us on arrival and asked if there was anything extra we wanted even though there was a keybox to let ourselves in. She has a beautiful holiday home and in this instance the pictures behold the truth! Peaceful, cosy and relaxing. Everything you could want is in this accommodation. It’s clean, everything works and things are set out perfectly. The views and scenery during our local hike were wonderful. Being able to shut out the BIG city and be in a private environment was important for us and Jen’s place made our time away together very special, thank you Jen.

  • Had a great stay here! Peaceful location with amazing views, so cosy and relaxed - would definitely stay here again

  • The Summerhouse is a stunning place for a calm, relaxing break. We stayed for two nights and felt so at home, and wished we were staying longer. The place was immaculate on arrival and we loved that the guestbook had great advice on things to do/places to eat, and also the board games in the property too. On Jen's advice we went to Cirencester on our first day - really beautiful town - and had a delicious lunch at The Fleece Inn. We also had a great meal at The Lamb Inn nearby to the Summerhouse, and enjoyed a walk at Haresfield Beacon. We loved the stay and would definitely visit again.

  • The summerhouse is truly beautiful. The log burner and the cosy touches make it such a lovely retreat and everything is clean and comfortable. Such a beautiful part of the world with fantastic views from the veranda area. Walkable distance to a local pub. Also supermarkets, more pubs and a little town a short driving distance. Jen was incredibly easy to contact and ask questions and made our stay very welcoming and comfortable.

The Cotswolds: If you’re looking for somewhere with a surprise round every corner then look no further than the beautiful Cotswolds. Famous for quintessentially English market towns and villages built from honey-coloured stone, the Cotswolds are a range of gently rolling hills and the largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in England and Wales making them a perfect base for keen walkers and cyclists. Escape the high street and lose yourself in village lanes full to bursting with quirky and independent shops, restaurants and farmers markets or soak up the amazing atmosphere of one of our many festivals and events. You’ll find some of the world’s most famous – and beautiful gardens in the Cotswolds, as well as wildlife parks, castles and stately homes and some of the finest historic buildings and churches in the country. Don’t be put off by our lack of coastline either! We have 40 miles of lakes in the Cotswold Water Park and numerous gently winding streams, canals and waterways criss-crossing the picturesque towns and villages. On the door step: WOODCHESTER PARK - the secret valley: Nestled in the Cotswolds, the secluded valley of Woodchester Park is home to the remains of an 18th- and 19th-century landscape park, a Victorian mansion, a chain of five lakes fringed by woodland and pasture, and an abundance of wildlife. The 19th Century Victorian Gothic Masterpiece was abandoned in mid-construction in 1873. Hidden in a secluded Cotswold valley, it is untouched by time and the modern world. This Grade 1 Listed Building has been saved from dereliction, but will never be completed. Visitors walk through an extraordinary architectural exhibit in which the secrets of the medieval Gothic builders and masons are laid bare. The carvings in Woodchester Mansion are among the finest of their kind in the world. 3 mins drive / 30 mins walk: NAILSWORTH: The artistic, market town of Nailsworth is nestled in a wooded valley in the south Cotswolds. Nailsworth is renowned for its selection of award-winning restaurants, pubs and cafes. Eating out in Nailsworth means you are spoilt for choice. Hobbs House Bakery is famous for being owned by the Fabulous Baker Brothers – Tom and Henry Herbert – and was featured on their TV show. William’s Food Hall has helped turn Nailsworth into a foodie haven. It draws celebrities and foodies through its doors to dine on fresh seafood and local produce. 5 mins drive: MINCHINHAMPTON The delightful, small market town of Minchinhampton sits on the edge of Minchinhampton Common. It's made up of pretty stone cottages, many dating back to the 17th century and medieval wool trade. There is a weekly country market and a good choice of cafes. Minchinhampton was chosen as a scenic location for the recent BBC TV adaptation of J K Rowling’s Casual Vacancy. There are breathtaking panoramic views of the Stroud Valleys from Minchinhampton Common, which sits on the Cotswold escarpment. It is an important archaeological landscape and managed by the National Trust. Rare orchids and butterflies can be spotted along with freely roaming horses and cattle. Please drive carefully over the common and keep an eye out for (URL HIDDEN) of the most famous residents is the Princess Royal who lives at Gatcombe Park on the edge of town. Every year, the famously quirky Giffords Circus takes up residence in Minchinhampton as part of its annual summer tour of the Cotswolds. 15 mins drive: TETBURY: Tetbury is a historic market town that is now internationally famous for its range of antiques shops and dealers. Independent boutique shops sit alongside restaurants that feature in the Michelin Guides. Tetbury attracts everyone from Royalty (Prince Charles and his sons' home, Highgrove, sits less than a mile away) to English countryside lovers, antique-finders, foodies and real ale connoisseurs. 8 min drive: STROUD: In the opposite direction and you will find yourself in the market town of Stroud - Situated below the western escarpment of the Cotswold Hills at the meeting point of the Five Valleys, the town is noted for its steep streets, independent spirit and cafe culture. The Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty surrounds the town, and the Cotswold Way path passes by it to the west. The award winning saturday farmers market IS A MUST! 25 min drive: BIBURY & ARLINGTON Bibury is a charming, typically Cotswold village just a short drive from Cirencester. It’s easy to see why William Morris called Bibury ‘The most beautiful village in England’ – wonderful stone buildings strung out along the banks of the River Coln. Arlington Row, owned by the National Trust, is one of England’s most iconic and photographed sites – it even appears on the inside cover of UK passports! Originally built in the 14th century as a monastic wool store, it was converted in the 17th century into a row of weavers’ cottages. The cottages are now lived in by National Trust tenants, with no public access to the cottages or gardens, although one of them can be rented out as a holiday cottage. The River Coln flows through Bibury sandwiched between the main village street and an expanse of boggy water meadow known as Rack Isle, so called because wool was once hung out to dry there on racks after it had been washed in Arlington Row. With Arlington Row as a backdrop, it makes one of the most picturesque scenes you will find in the Cotswolds. 30 min drive:CHELTENHAM SPA 45 min drive: BATH SPA

  • Lovely little apartment done up to a very good standard. Very homely and cosy. Fully equipped kitchen which was great as we didn't want to head out for dinner. Was in a good location to a few shops and pubs. Bit of miscommunication with check in, however was sorted quite easily.

  • My husband and I were looking for a quiet night away. We came across this place and thought it looked interesting. We were blown by the beautiful location. We also booked a couple's yoga session which was incredible. It gave us 1.5 hours to really connect with each other. Victoria & Dave were amazing hosts. We will be back again without a doubt.

  • A little gem of an apartment. We also had a few of the amazing ‘treatments/sessions’ on offer by Victoria which we found great. Her hospitality adds to the totally relaxing atmosphere. Lots of walks straight from the apartment. Shops, restaurants and bars a few miles away and yet you feel in the middle of nowhere.

Any visitor to Stroud really needs to visit the Farmers Market on Saturday morning for takeaway food/ food stalls. Its been voted the best local market in the UK. Stroud is very much the country version of alternative places such as Camden or Shoreditch- it’s a quirky, quixotic, bohemian town with very strong community roots and local free trade shops including art and vintage shops. It has a HUGE amount of artists living in and around the environs. It was voted as one of Britains best places to live in a recent Sunday times article. Stroud is indeed, incredibly special and definitely embodies the hidden bohemian more authentic experience of the Cotswolds. There are always festivals or events, from literature, art to theatre taking place throughout the year. The many mills are part of Stroud’s Industrial Past and house a bustle of workspace sharing co-operatives, artists studios, vintage shops, upholstery and jewellery making workshops. Many guests visit to take part in these workshops to experience this rich arts and crafts heritage. A short 10 minute walk from the house is a wonderfully authentic real ale typically British pub called ‘The Crown and Sceptre’- call in for a great Sunday roast. Other notable nearby establishments to visit are The Subscription Rooms, Giffords Circus, Westonbirt Arboretum, Stroud Valley Artspace, Pangolin Gallery, Hawkwood College (for workshops). Minchinhampton Common is a beautiful common ground area where cattle roam freely across the roads and amongst golfers There are many walks right from the doorway of the house. The Heavens is one beautiful area to explore as is the Stroud micro Brewery Walks to Rodborough Common across the Valley with great views of the river Severn and Wales and a visit to Winstones Ice Cream factory is a must. The Cotswold Way is near by, as are walks to Slad to visit the Woolpack, frequented by the famous author Laurie Lee. For those requiring a flatter walk – take in the beautifully restored Cotswold Canals with access from the towpath to unique pubs and cafes. Painswick, the queen of the Cotswolds, Tetbury, Cirencester, Cheltenham, Bath and Bristol are also definitely worth a visit and are all within easy driving distance from Stroud.
  • Abi’s place is as lovely as she is, a natural host she makes you welcome from the minute you arrive and provides everything you need in her stylish home. I feel I made a friend as well as a regular place to stay in Bohemian Stroud!

  • Abi is amazing- so kind and helpful. I had booked last minute for a lady in distress who turned out to have a lot of problems but Abi offered a safe haven, wonderful deep bath with endless bubbles and popped out to the shop specially to buy her favourite cereal. The place is comfortable and welcoming and of course Berkeley the basset hound is totally adorable!

  • Lovely modern house with old touches. Our room was spacious and comfortable. Abi was a great host - she is highly enthuasiastic about Stroud and the town surprised us with how much it had going on! She had lots of tips on places to visit and had really thought through the extra touches in the room. Nice location with views into the surrounding valley. Plenty to explore in Stroud and the surrounding area. Thank you for a great stay!

  • Beautiful house! Very airy and spacious on a quiet road! Exactly what we needed coming from busy London! Abi has been very helpful and hands on from the beginning of booking, very prompt replies and in great detail! She also provides toiletries and towels as well as some breakfast options, note they are sourced from local farmers, that jam with toast was absolute delight! The house is located up to 20min by walk from Stroud town centre, with markets on hand and also bars and restaurants for the evening. Abi gave us some great local recommendations! Bed is super comfortable and house is very very clean, she also has a lovely and very friendly dog (he never barks) that is more than eager to play :)! Great weekend away and I would definitely recommend staying at Abi's place.

    Ausra2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Abi is a wonderful host. From detailed instructions for locating her place to flexible checking in, she goes out of her way to make her guests feel welcome. The house is spacious, tastefully decorated, and has all the amenities one can ask for. Abi adds a personal touch to the room providing tea/coffee, candies, and even wine. The surroundings are picturesque and it's a perfect retreat for those looking to get away from the bustle of city life. An added bonus is Abi's vast knowledge of the area and her willingness to guide her guests. We will cherish the conversations we had with her. Best wishes, Rashmi and Arnab

  • Caroline and Simon’s place is lovely and comfortable and is in a beautiful location, with some incredible views. Getting there is straight forward thanks to the helpful directions sent before our arrival. When we arrived we were welcomed by Simon and the their two very friendly dogs. Simon also gave us some great suggestions of walks in the local area. Checking in and out is simple and straightforward. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone wanting to visit the Cotswolds.

  • Caroline and Simon are lovely Hosts. Both myself and my partner were made to feel completely welcome from the beginning of the trip. Really nice touches and very clean space, nice walks nearby and we were recommended the Woolpack where we had a lovely lunch. Thanks again

  • A beautiful space, really cozy and location was perfect to explore the local area. Lovley pub only 15 mins walk away and perfect place for country walks.

  • A lovely detached space above the owner's garage in a quiet, scenic valley. We agree with all the reviews- it was spotlessly clean. We appreciated the thoughtful touches, including breakfast items and some delicious snacks, as well as a basket full of maps and local guides. It was an easy drive to Stroud, Gloucester and many pretty villages. Some great local pubs- we particularly enjoyed meals at the Butcher's Arms; and we also had a fantastic lunch at The Hive in Stow-on-the-Wold. We managed to arrive on the first day of Storm Dennis, and can confirm Caroline and Simon are far enough up the valley to be flood-proof! Despite the storm we had a peaceful stay and were very cosy there.

    Paula2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely loft, clean, quiet and nicely furnished. We felt very cosy and enjoyed all the local walks and visiting The Woolpack. Will definitely stay again!

    Jude2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Caroline's place is exactly what you want for a break from London. Full of walks and country side. The little bits of breakfast stuff Caroline provides is a real life saver and Simon was kind enough to drop us off at the train station on the day we checked out. It gets real dark on the country paths so it's great if you know what you are doing. Stroud has it's own character and culture of friendliness. The pubs and independent cafes are real gems and sadly you can start to see how the chains are replacing them so hurry up to Stroud before its too late!

    Cheryl2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Superb cottage, in a great location for enjoyable cotswold country walking.

    Ian2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Caroline's cabin is set in the beautiful Slad Valley and provides a welcoming base to the incredibly scenic surroundings. The cabin is clean, airy and light, the bed and sofa comfortable and the DVD's provided a nice touch also. We had a lovely stay and found Caroline and Simon to be friendly, helpful and responsive whilst we took off for local walks. The Woolpack comes highly recommended for locally sourced food and ales and is within walking distance of the cabin, although a torch should be remembered if trekking back at night. Thoughtfully one was provided! We would highly recommend the cabin to anyone wanting to check out the natural beauty of the Cotswolds and seeking a secluded, but welcoming Airbnb. Thanks Caroline and Simon!

Enjoy our lovely private ground floor studio-style room with plenty of space. Separate shower room & kitchenette area. Large, powerful shower, comfy bed with cotton sheets, fast Wi-Fi & beautiful vintage decor. Easy access via private entrance & parking. We provide everything for continental/ cereal breakfast with fresh coffee & OJ in the cool 1940’s cabinet with kettle, microwave & toaster. Great for exploring the area by foot, cycle or car. Lots of local info from friendly hosts if needed!
Our hillside house is set in a 3/4 acre walled garden and is a busy, vibrant family home. We are surrounded by nature and still have easy access to local towns. The lovely, generous guest room forms the lower ground floor of our house and has its own private entrance. Perfect base for walkers, runners, cyclists, golfers, event goers, foodies, naturalists, culture or just exploring! We are very mindful of our guests privacy and peace - and we are kept busy with pets, kids and various comings and goings, so will stay out of your hair unless you need us!
We live in a lovely timber clad house set in a 3/4 acre walled garden in a beautiful rolling valley running between Nailsworth and Stroud- both great towns to explore with an award winning Farmers market, local brewery (with pizza oven), great arts, pubs, music scene and lots of independant shops and cafe’s. We have direct access to footpaths through a nature reserve behind the house (endangered bush crickets!) up to Amberley village and beautiful Minchinhampton Common with its free ranging cows and ponies, ice cream factory, visiting circus, pubs, golf course, great views and kite flying. Or use the footpath down to the Nailsworth/Stroud cycle path, which in turn leads into the lovely canal tow paths. Great for mountain biking pretty much anywhere; golfing at Minchinhampton; walking & trees at Westonbirt; birds & nature at Slimbridge, horses at Gatcombe & Badminton; culture & shopping at Bath, Cheltenham and Cirencester. Or go large in Bristol! Last, but not least we are within walking distance of the mysterious Woodchester Park; or even up to spooky Hetty Pegler’s Tump....
  • Great little space for a weekend away, in walking distance of Stroud and other villages, and the shower was amazing!

  • Great place to stay. Lovely little touches in the studio. Excellent location for exploring the local area with good pubs/restaurants in walking distance.

    Laurence2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely stay here in this cosy, comfortable space. The location is stunning also. The bed was really comfy and we loved the gorgeous chesterfield sofa! I will say that it is worth taking a shower cap if you have long hair and won’t be washing it every time you shower. The shower is an exceptionally powerful monsoon type and it was tough to keep my hair dry! We were out for most of our stay so never met the hosts, but Tom was always on hand via text - I asked to borrow the iron and it was in the room by the time we’d returned from our walk. The breakfast touches were delicious and having a mini fridge was very useful. We had a very pleasant stay and hope to return! Thank you.

    Jayne2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely and luxurious studio flat.Very cosy, clean and tidy ...I will recommend to anyone as they are indeed super hosts.

    Chukwuemeka2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Not a single negative point to make from our 3 night stay. The accommodation is larger than it looks in the pictures, but remains a cosy hideaway for chilly evenings. It's full of interesting bits n bobs whilst the bathroom is more than adequate inclusive of a powerful shower. Comfy bed, comfy sofa, comfy table and chairs at which to eat your provided breakfast whilst watching the birds at the feeder opposite. The hosts provided tips about the area which we utilised, however there is so much within walking, hiking, or short driving distance we were spoilt for choice. Loved it.

This is a lovely peaceful area, ideal for a relaxing break situated in an AONB in the Cotswolds.
The accommodation is light, airy and very comfortable. The double bed will split into twin beds (please request) to allow for more adaptable accommodation. We can supply a travel cot upon request and a Zedbed (for an additional cost of £15 per night). There is a private patio which over looks the pleasant garden. No additional fees are charged for pets.
There are plenty of walks accessible from the property and 3 pubs within walking distance. We are equidistant between Cirencester, Cheltenham and Gloucester. Bath is within an hours drive as is Bristol, Burford and Bourton on the Water. The villages of Painswick, Minchinhampton and Nailsworth are close by, while Westonbirt arboretum and the Rocco gardens are also well worth a visit.
  • We had a lovely stay in The Pod with our 7mth old and our dog. It was spacious, welcoming, private and very comfortable. Some great walks and beautiful villages close by.

  • Fabulous option for a relaxing weekend in the Cotswolds. The Pod is totally self-contained with everything you could need to cook and relax, and Browns Hill is a really pretty village with lovely views and walks nearby. Great communication, sparkling clean, realy couldn’t have asked for more. We’d love to come back!

    Meghan2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The Pod is a perfect place to stay for a few days away in the Cotswolds. It has everything you and more, breakfast items such as eggs fresh milk were very welcome also toiletries in the bathroom is a good added extra.

  • A stunning cabin that is warm an cosy and had everything we could possibly want, and more. Carrie was very helpful and welcoming and we loved staying here. Thank you! X

  • Carrie's and Graham's "pod" was beautiful! The pod was well equipped with necessities and the food and toiletries were a lovely touch. The underfloor heating came in handy for the cold weather we experienced, we were never cold! And the board games were a lovely touch too as we wanted one evening in 😊 The pod is in a great location. Short drives away from many lovely pubs and long walks which are a favourite of ours! Thanks for being such great hosts. Would come back!

    Leanne2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic accommodation in a beautiful spot in the Cotswolds. Amazing for long peaceful walks. The Pod is well equipped and homely. Fantastic hosts. Would highly recommend.

    Ian2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Carrie and Graham's place was fantastic! It's a fully equipped, warm and stylish little "pod" (as the name would suggest) with everything you'll need. A comfy living and dining room to relax in, a fully equipped modern kitchen, a massive comfy bed, underfloor heating, a hot shower, nicely decorated - and in a lovely setting too, in their nice garden! Location was simple to find, 15 mins or less away from Stroud (farmer's market and brewery worth checking out), plenty of nice restaurants, and probably hundreds of lovely walks, pubs, villages and farms. Had a great time and would recommend, perfect for two people!

  • Thank you for having us for Valentine’s Day weekend! The weather was rubbish but the coach house was perfect. Sam and Becca are super friendly and even brought around more wood for the log burner. The cottage has everything you’ll need for a weekend away. There’s lots of nice little touches that make this place special. We’d love to visit again!

  • This is a beautiful little cottage that is perfect for a couple. It is wonderfully decorated and the use of space throughout makes the cottage seem much bigger than it is. The fire was lovely to relax by and we thoroughly enjoyed our time.

Clean, spotless, neat and quiet!!!!  Heating system and hot water awesome, a pleasure arriving home after driving around on winter.  Located in a strategic zone to explore the entire Cotswolds. Maximum 1 hour driving to the farthest town of this area.  Bread and milk at arriving and thanks for letting us check in earlier just to arrive home with light. It has all kinds of elements that make it a complete house.  100% recommended. We will come back soon for sure!!!!!!

  • We loved our stay here. It was really cosy with lovely underfloor heating. It had everything we needed for a New Year getaway. We cooked a couple of meals: the oven was good and a double hob and decent-sized kitchen was handy. There’s a pub virtually at the end of the drive, and a corner shop open until 9pm. We can also recommend the Jolly Fryer chippy half a mile away!

  • Cedars retreat was a lovely, peaceful stay for me and my small family whilst on a work course nearby. It’s a lovely hideaway from the main roads whilst still being in a great location to local amenities and walks. We had a lovely comfortable stay and enjoyed the space. It had everything we would need and will definitely recommend to friends and family when in the area.

Kate was an excellent host and a warm and friendly welcome was much appreciated. The view from the bedroom is outstanding and worth the steep climb up the driveway!

Hope Cottage is cosy, quirky and full of character (lots of exposed stone walls and original beams, plus a woodburner) but with all mod cons. It sits in its own terrace/garden in this pretty South Cotswolds village. There are wonderful views, and it's the perfect place to relax and get away from it all. A true home from home, with privacy and seclusion (no owners on site), a great local pub and walks in all directions
Hope Cottage is a detached property built in 1750s in the rural hillside village of France Lynch in the South Cotswolds. Recently refurbished, it boasts all mod cons with a new kitchen and bathroom, alongside character features like oak beams, exposed stone walls and mullion windows. There is an inglenook fireplace in the sitting room, with a woodburner and logs and kindling provided. It sits in its own private, south-facing garden with wonderful views across the valley, and there is parking for one car. The cottage has one double bedroom with additional accommodation (a single bed) in a mezzanine area, plus a sofa bed (small double) on the landing, which looks out through the most fantastic picture window. The beds are made up with beautiful white cotton bedlinen and towels are provided. There is gas central heating, with a woodburner in the sitting room to keep the place toasty on chilly evenings. France Lynch is a charming village with dry stone walls and narrow winding lanes, and a great pub, the Kings Head, just two minutes walk away at the end of the lane. There are some beautiful walks direct from the door (many ending at or passing by other local pubs in the area). Within a short drive are local attractions such as the Farmers Market at Stroud, the Rococo Gardens at Painswick, Prinknash Abbey, Westonbirt Arboretum, the antique shops of Tetbury and Laurie Lee's picturesque Slad Valley, the inspiration behind 'Cider with Rosie'. Within 45 minutes drive are larger centres of Bristol, Bath and Cheltenham, and the cottage is also conveniently situated for events such as Gatcombe Horse Trials, Badminton, Kemble and Fairford Air Shows and Cheltenham's Races, Literary and Music Festivals.
France Lynch is a charming little village, full of stone cottages and winding lanes, and the pub at the end of the road is just two minutes walk away - in the summer there's a garden to sit out in, and during the winter there is usually a roaring log fire inside. There are some great walks in this area and we've left plenty of information in a booklet in the cottage - some maps of the immediate local area, plus smaller scale ones that include footpaths. We have also left some laminated sheets with specific walks that guests can follow. Stroud is a quirky, fun little town with a great Farmers Market on Saturdays and Cirencester is slightly larger with a bigger range of shops and some nice restaurants and bars. Both are within an easy drive.
  • Beautiful cosy cottage, lovely pubs near by. Loved having the log burner going in the evenings, couldn’t have asked for a better stay.

  • Hope Cottage is the perfect place! We enjoyed our time there so much that we didn't want to leave. We loved exploring the Cotswolds as well as staying at home, sitting by the fire or looking at the amazing view from the upstairs window. Highly recommended!

This is a beautiful space with stunning views over the fields towards stroud. It is very simply decorated inside with lovely oak beams and staircase. There is also a wood burning stove for extra warmth in the winter months. From the outside it almost looks like a swiss chalet, and upstairs on the mezzanine floor you will find traditional Japanese Tatami mats and futon beds. There are currently no kitchen facilities apart from a kettle, fridge and microwave.
The Annexe is clad in beautiful Larch wood which gives it a lovely warm glowing look, the floor, doors and stairs are all warm wood too. The Tatami mats and Futon beds are genuine traditional Japanese pieces.
The surrounding area is great for walking and cycling, not far from the town of stroud too which has an award winning farmers market every Saturday which has amazing local produce. Stroud is nestled in the 5 valleys in the heart of the Cotswolds with beautiful countryside all round.
  • Such a lovely space! Beautifully decorated and very cozy. If you don't like a thinner, more firm mattress you may want to steer clear; personally I liked the traditional tatami mats.

The Shepherd's Hut on Steanbridge Farm in Slad is a perfect location for a mini break, the hut lovingly hand made in Cornwall by Pumphrey & Weston. The most luxurious bed mattress has been added for guests to snuggle into. Hot power shower in a charming en-suite, mains water pressure. The valley is your own in this secluded charming hut. Arrive by car the path to the hut is lit by sensors & for your return walk from dinner & banter 400 metres away in the famous Woolpack pub reserve a table.
It is your secluded spot in the Slad Valley, private car parking, a lit path takes you through a gate into the field which only has your Shepherds Hut in with possible a few sheep.
Slad is 2 miles from Stroud where there is a main line train station from London and Birmingham.
  • Great location - the dog enjoyed having the hill to run around on. The shepherds hut was immaculate. Loved the speaker/tv combo and the fire made it really cosy when watching a film.

  • The most beautiful spot to wake up to! The bed is very comfortable and the place was very clean and cosy! We walked to the local pub and had a wonderful meal and met some great locals. The place is also very well equipped for making food, only thing missing was milk for the tea and coffee which is kindly provided. Would definitely recommend this place and would love to stay here again!

    Emily2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location in the Slad Valley, very secluded with lovely views. It was a great way to celebrate our wedding anniversary and just what we needed - a cozy, romantic and peaceful overnight getaway. The woodburner certainly made things toasty! Unfortunately the shower did not work during our stay, but it didn’t bother us, I guess it just made the “glamping” experience all the more authentic! We would love to come back in the summer, have a BBQ and do one of the local walks. Thanks Sophie!

    Katie2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful stay in the Shepherds hut. Really comfy bed! Great location. Peaceful getaway. Just what we needed. Thank you!

    Alessandra2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Truly lovely location with view across the Slad valley. It was easy to find and everything we needed was provided for us. The local pub is excellent with a wide variety of local beers. We brought our dog and he loved the open spaces. The only thing we found difficult was the drive up to the hit in our small car as the lanes steep with big craters.

    Timothy2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • If you plan on booking at the Shepard’s hut you will not be disappointed! As a country retreat/romantic getaway it is perfect and has everything you need. Despite the weather forecast this weekend, I still very much feel this is a place you can enjoy both in the winter and summer. The log fire and cosy feel gives that comforting country vibe, and even in the rain we loved gazing at the views from the inside. The surrounding fields are simply stunning and you’ve complete privacy in this charming part of Slad. I slept like a log due to the very comfortable bed; this was definitely a highlight! The land surrounding the hut was very safe for my little dog who had a great time running around. We would definitely recommend and enjoyed escaping the hustle and bustle of London to enjoy this little gem in Slad. I also would recommend the local pub (The Woolpack) for homely cooking and Sunday roasts. The pub itself had a quirky charm and the staff were very welcoming.

    Natasha2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at the shepherds hut last weekend. The hut is in a great location and complete with everything we needed. We had a delicious meal at The Woolpack too :)

    Kerry2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • If you are wanting somewhere to switch off from your day to day life and live a cosy, homely few days away with views you could never get bored of, then say at the shepherds hut. Perfect amount of room for two and a dog. The local pub is 10 minutes walk away and everyone is so friendly and welcoming. ( full of great stories and advice on places to go). So many great walks and if you love poetry then follow the Laurie lee wildlife way.
