The Windermere area You'll discover fine varied walking country around Lake Windermere, at the heart of the Lake District. Hire a boat and take to the lake itself, or use the network of footpaths to reach the best high-level views. There are lots of options for places to visit, including Ambleside Roman Fort and Troutbeck Park, which was once owned by Beatrix Potter. Enjoy this beautiful region and unwind amidst breathtaking scenery at any time of the year. Ramble through some of the best walking country in Britain; get out your mountain bike and go off road or simply enjoy the pleasures of the delightful towns and villages dotted throughout the lakes and Cumbria. The railway arrived in 1857, making the area much more accessible to visitors and with this demand grew a wealth of Lake District Hotels and a multitude of natural and 'built' attractions. The railway still exists today and brings people from all over the world to this special area of the Lake District National Park. As well as being a sustainable way to travel, most of the Windermere hotels are only a short walk from the station, or at worst a five minute taxi ride. In terms of attractions, Lake Windermere is well known as England's largest Lake at over 10 miles long and is also the deepest at 65 metres. There are numerous outstanding viewing points within easy reach either by car, or by short walk. Gummer's Howe is probably the most famous being situated at the south end of Lake Windermere. You can drive most of the way, leaving only a 30 minute walk to marvel at the panoramic views over Lake Windermere and across to Morecambe Bay. To see the Lakes from a different perspective, Arnside Knott rewards those who take this gentle climb with stunning views of the Kent Estuary and Morecambe Bay; simply head for the viewpoint. For a more challenging, but still enjoyable walk for most, take the 2 hour round trip to Brantfell and Post Knott. Take the camera, as there are wonderful views of Windermere, the stunning Langdales and maybe even the Lake District Hotel you've chosen. Hope for a clear day and always check the weather forecasts before heading out. Suitable footwear is always important, even on these more leisurely walks. Around Lake Windermere you'll find an array of villages and hamlets to enjoy. While the drive will be slow around the twisting back roads, you'll discover: + Fell Foot Park [National Trust] where you can enjoy an ice cream and hire a boat; + Aquarium of the Lakes and the Lakeside and Haverthwaite railway at Lakeside, both being attractions you can enjoy on a sunny or rainy day; + At Graythwaite you can enjoy Graythwaite Hall Gardens, which are particularly impressive in the Spring; + Head up towards Sawrey and visit ‘Hill Top', a 17th century farmhouse where Beatrix Potter weaved her lyrical magic. + At the north end of Lake Windermere, Ambleside is a Mecca for walking enthusiasts and you can take a lake cruise back to your hotel in Bowness-on-Windermere; + Visit the Beatrix Potter Attraction in Bowness-on-Windermere £250–£350/ week 2 nights minimum stay Nearest Travel Links Airport: Manchester Railway & Bus: Windermere 1/4 mile from accommodation Ferry: Birkenhead Activities near Windermere Sports: Tennis Watersports Horse Riding Golf within 30 mins drive Fishing Walking holidays Rural / countryside retreats Beach or lakeside relaxation Cycling holidays Motorcycling holidays Romantic break
A Victorian town almost as it was when first developed. Beautiful buildings and dedicated to the tourist industry. Fantastic breathtaking scenery. A busy place even in the heart of winter. Probably my favourite time of the year with its fresh crisp air. Autumnal colours are a sight to behold. Spring with its rebirth reminds me if the warmer days ahead where as a child I came on holidays to spend hours dipping my feet in streams and lakes. A place you will want to return to for sure.

  • This is a brilliant little place to stay while you're in Windermere. The flat is small and cozy, but it really does have everything you need. We spent a happy few days here relaxing, cooking and walking round the Lakes. I wouldn't hesitate to book here again.

    James2013-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • Convenient for exploring lakes and Cumbria hills. Functional kitchen.

    David Scott2016-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Very good for a couple who are looking for somewhere to rest after a long day out on the fells. Check out the Crafty Baa only meters away. Thanks Mysty.

  • Great little place. Everything you would need! Great location.

    Joelle2017-05-13T00:00:00Z
  • Small but with everything you need.

    Paula2017-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • The house is quite cozy, but there is everything you may need, plus it is in the very center of the town and very silent at night, so you wil not be disturbed by noises or cars. A bit difficult to find if you only use your phone gps, but if you follow the directions in the description you should have no problems. Great experience.

    Federico2016-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • Misty is a small but perfectly formed little bolthole for exploring the Lakes. Perfect location and everything you need is provided. I had a brilliant time. Thanks.

We would like to welcome you to our beautiful cottage at Stockdale in the remote rural valley of Longsleddale, where you will find fabulous walks on the doorstep with all kinds of wildlife to encounter, if you are lucky! The cottage is full of character and has three bedrooms and easily accommodates 5 people. The lounge is comfortable and has views of the surrounding fells, and a log burner for those winter nights! The kitchen has everything you could ask for, and is a very sociable space
Our Cottage is very special. We are in the heart of the Lake District National Park, but in a quieter area so very few people find us. The cottage is such a relaxing space. There is an abundance of wild life particularly garden birds, but also red squirrels!
Peace and quiet. Very rural - no shops or services! Its stunning countryside. There are good walks from the doorstep. The Cottage is 10 miles from Kendal and shops and pubs etc. Five miles of the journey are on a single track road. Its well worth the trip! Do not listen to sat nav it takes you to our neighbours! Look at the directions and follow those!
  • We had a wonderful stay at Lindy and Harry's. Perfect place to unwind and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Lake District. Lindy and Harry took wonderful care of us and were very helpful in planning our long weekend in the Lake District. Highly recommend

  • This is a wonderful place for a retreat. If anything it's more than what you expect from the description and photos.

    Anthony2017-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • I really enjoyed my stay. It's a very cosy, warm, clean and comfortable cottage. Lindy and Harry are nice and friendly. Billi and boots are cute:P I would be very happy if I could have chance coming back at this lovely place. 房主夫妇很贴心,早上会有早点哟~

    Donald2016-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • This is the greatest Airb&b we have had the privilege of staying in. For the first time, we felt like home. Lindy is a superb hostess! Even leaving us a bottle of wine & chocolates on arrival. Her attention to detail on all the cottage workings was concise & greatly appreciated. Couldn't recommend this place highly enough as a beautiful remote place to stay! 10/10.

    Paul2016-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Just what we needed - a relaxing get-away! We enjoyed real quality family time. A superb house in a stunning location. Very friendly and fast communication from Lindy.

    Heidi2016-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Really enjoyed our two night stay with Lindy & Harry (and Billie the dog). The accommodation is lovely with plenty of space to relax into. The setting is superb; perfect off-the-beaten-track part of The Lakes with some of the best fell walks away from the Central Fells. Recommended.

    Andrew2015-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • The welcome was excellent with a real personal touch. We couldn't have wished for anything more.

    chris2016-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderfully tranquil and rural place to stay. Everything was as described and we really enjoyed our stay. Lindy was helpful prior to our holiday, providing useful information. Definitely worth taking advantage of an online grocery delivery, as it's a little bit of a drive to shops etc. Breakfast on the patio in the sun, listening to the babbling brook was lovely!!

  • Stayed here for a week with wife and 2 kids (8 & 13). Absolutely loved it! Nice house but completely outshone by the amazing garden. Kids spent so much time out there just playing. Treehouse, stream, 4 bridges, lovely view, and loads of little hidden objects in the garden made it always interesting! The owner, Christine, lives next door and was so friendly. She took time to talk with our kids, and they loved her and her two dogs. Kids fed the chickens each morning as well which was a real novelty for them. Cottage is about 10 mins drive from Windermere in one direction and about 15 mins in the other direction for the motorway so great for us. Cottage was lovely and well equipped. Used the washing machine and tumble dryer while here as got a bit wet on occasion which was very useful. We booked the weeks shopping from Asda to arrive on the evening we arrived and had no problems with that either. Overall, absolutely loved it here and would love to come back!!

A beautiful wooden lodge with a stunning riverside setting, Puddleduck Lodge sleeps up to 4 people in 2 bedrooms. Puddleduck Lodge is located at Limefitt Park in the heart of the Lake District.
  • The place is exactly what it looks like and described in the pictures . My family and I stayed here at the start of the year and enjoyed it thoroughly .

  • Lodge is very comfortable and was a home away from home. Perfect location nestled within the Troutbeck Valley. WiFi signal provided by the park is great, meaning we could stay connected with the outside world! Very clean and the lodge was fully equipped with everything we needed. Thoroughly recommend and will be back!

    Graham2016-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cabin in a good location, close to Windermere and easy access to hills, lakes and mountains. Communication and info pack from the hosts were excellent and the cabin was brilliantly equipped.

    Sophie2016-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at Puddleduck Lodge. The lodge itself is great and has all the comforts of home. It was also very clean and tidy when we arrived. The information Robert sent us before arriving was also very helpful and clear. The park is lovely too and not far at all from the beautiful lakeside town of Bowness. The facilities are great, there is even a field to let your dogs have a run around!! All in all an amazing trip, the only downside was it was too short! Thanks!!

    Michael2017-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Cute log cabin on a cabin park in Troutbeck. Easy to find. Pleasantly situated next to flowing river. Very close to neighbours. Felt safe. On site staff were pleasant and helpful: barman in particular. The pub up the road is nicely set up and provides standard Robinson’s food. Good comms from host made it easy to get there. Central for easy access to all the Lakes have to offer.

    Steve2017-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent accommodation and communication. Very comfortable, clean and in a lovely location. Will definitely be back.

  • Puddleducks lodge is a great cosy retreat in a beautiful part of the world. It has everything you need for staying put in troutbeck or advice on how to venture out further. We loved all the local walks that were recommended, and enjoyed the on site facilities of the play park and shop. The Lodge is so relaxing next to the river and it was great for our dogs to be able to join us on our break

  • Lovely room with all amenities, including bonus flapjacks (delicious!). Great location - the cafe opposite does a great breakfast and the pub is a 2-minute walk away and serves good food and delicious beers. Pippa was very friendly and was very quick to respond to our messages. Nothing was too much trouble and we would definitely stay again.

    Steven2017-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely weekend in the Lakes. Pippa's place is lovely. The room is beautifully furnished and feels extremely homely. The gorgeous toiletries and super tasty flapjacks were a lovely touch. The location is great, away from the main tourist areas but more than close enough to explore the local attractions. We would definitely recommend to others.

    Thomas2017-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very comfortable couple of nights at Pippa and Steve's. The location is great for the Windermere end of the Lakes (few minutes drive). Good pub just down the road did really decent pub food and local ales (brewed there I think), and the cafe attached to the petrol station opposite did an excellent bacon sandwich to get the day started. The house is by the main road but set back enough that you can't tell and otherwise pretty much surrounded by fields and trees making it all very peaceful. The room was beautifully turned out, with the most comfortable bed I've been in for a long time and just what is needed after a day of pottering about. Lots of lovely touches made it a really pleasant stay. Great hosts, really welcoming and friendly, and wonderful dogs and kittens. I would definitely stay again and again.

    Kate2017-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Pippa and her family were very welcoming and we enjoyed our stay in the Lake’s District (even with the rain!) The room is set up well for relaxing and although there was no breakfast, Pippa had fruit and delicious flapjacks in the room which we enjoyed on our walk that we found in one of the books Pippa had in the room.

    Bethany2017-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent communication and helpful directions. House was easier to find from the helpful hints and tips. Relaxed about arrival times which was very useful since we didn't know exactly how long the walk would take before heading to the cottage. On arrival, plentiful parking, room is upstairs in an outhouse joined to the main house by a small corridor so you don't feel like you are treading on the families' toes. Clean, bright, freshly decorated room. Beautiful style and ornaments. Lovely touches such as proper coffee, homemade flapjacks and posh shampoo in the en suite. Room is dark and (EMAIL HIDDEN)fy bed. Pippa's son recommended an excellent pub 200m from the house with friendly bar staff, tasty pub food and a good selection of real ales (including some brewed in the in-house microbrewery). We were easily able to get a table on a Saturday night in season without having to book in advance. Friendly, approachable labradoodles. Good recommendation for breakfast in nearby Ambleside. Overall, very happy with our stay and glad we found the house on Airbnb. Would definitely stay again if in the area. Thanks Pippa!

    Charlotte2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely fantastic. Beautiful bedroom and bathroom with great attention to detail. Incredibly comfortable bed, fresh air, lovely little touches such as home-made flapjacks. Wonderful place to stay.

Reston Hall is a Grade II Listed 18th Century residence located just outside the villages of Staveley and Ings in the stunning Lake District National Park. We are a 10mins drive from lake Windermere.
You will be booking the main guest accommodation which is totally self contained. The entrance is the main door as you see in the photographs, with the large landscape garden to front and wooded area to the side. On entering you will find two large receptions, with an impressive sweeping staircase up to the landing and bedrooms. There is a fully equipped kitchen with Aga and Belfast sink for when you feel like eating at home. Upstairs there are two large bedrooms with SuperKing beds, one en-suite - the other with luxurious chrome roll top bath. Outside we have large gardens - Reston Scar is located just behind the house.
Staveley is a thriving community in the beautiful Lake District National Park, perhaps one of the last real working village in Cumbria. In Staveley's old Mill Yard you will find a plethora of modern businesses that cater for the needs of the community and tourists coming into the village throughout the year. Staveley has a local shop and post office, a butchers, artisan bakery, numerous cafe’s and coffee shop, a public house and even a brewery with its own bar – offering a huge selection of real ales, stouts and beers for the connoisseur. The village is a mecca for cyclists – hosting the UK’s largest cycling shop “Wheelbase” in the Mill Yard. It is also a wonderful base for walkers, offering easy access to such hidden treasures as Kentmere & Longsledlle for the dedicated walker or maybe a gentle stroll to Windermere along the Dales Way for those who don’t feel inclined to climb Wainwright’s peaks.
  • When I book an AirBnB property I'm hoping I'll deal with a friendly and flexibl2 owner and the property will reflect the owner description. Rest on Hall exceeded our expectations on both counts. Gillian was a wonderful host - really quick and clear feedback and very accommodating with the extra help we needed while we were staying. Reston Hall is a stunning house. You really do feel like Lord of the manor due to the exquisite and grand design. Each room is extremely well equipped and the extra touches make the stay more special: luxurious towels and toiletries in each bathroom and the large flatscreen tv's in each bedroom. The location is great too. Stavely has everything you need and the bakery, brewery and cafe in the old mill area are great quality and value. The Watermill pub in Ings ( 5 min car journey or easily walking/cycling) is great for food and beer - they brew their own. Overall I can't recommend Gillian and her property highly enough. Our family (2 boys age 8 and 10) loved it there.

    Jeremy2017-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Reston Hall was perfect for a weekend away in the Lake District. The property is beautiful, and close to the quaint Staveley. Gillian was a great host - she was communicative before arrival, explained the history of the property, had provided fresh bread and jams, and even drove us to the station on our last day. Would highly recommend!

    Alexandra2017-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay in an amazing house. We spend a week in Gillian's place and we really enjoyed it. The house is in a great location to explore the Lake District and the pubs and grocery stores are only a few (driving) minutes away. The house has a big garden and great views over the hills. The place is beautifully decorated and especially the two bedrooms are very specious. The main road in front of the house is quite noisy but we're used to that. Gillian is a great and very welcoming host. She put fresh flowers in the house and bought us lovely bread, butter and milk. Communication with Gillian was very pleasant and she responded immediately. Would definitely recommend the place, very nice. Thanks!

    Olfert2017-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful house in a great location. Lots of space - bedrooms are huge and the house is quite impressive. Walking distance to Staveley. Gillian is a lovely host who left a nice little welcome pack so we had supplies for breakfast. Would definitely stay here again.

    Bina2017-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • Generous rooms and a wonderful big country kitchen in a rambling old (well-heated) country house. Ideal for self-catering. Gillian is a terrific host who made herself available to explain everything and then discreetly left us to ourselves. Only down-side if you're looking for utter tranquility is relative proximity to the busy main road between Windemere and Kendal. A wonderful base from which to go exploring the Lakes District.

    Rob2017-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • The house is gorgeous! Old and beautiful but at the same time very comfortable. Clean and very nice designed. Really enjoyed our stay. Gillian is a great host. She met us as soon as we arrived. She was next door, so that you have that assurance that if any questions - she is there. But at the same time she was very discreet and we enjoyed our privacy. There is fully equipped kitchen which is convenient if you are travelling with children. In summary, highly recommend!

    Satenik2017-04-17T00:00:00Z

  • I have given this 4/5. Location is good but very close to a main road which was quite noisy on a morning. Other than that, the cottage is perfect. Oh, i was a bit curious about the locked room upstairs and there was nothing mentioned about this in the itinerary.

  • We have just had a wonderful stay in this beautiful cottage. It was spotlessly clean and very welcoming after a long drive. All the basics were provided. The cottage is in a lovely little village with a nearby pub, shop and brewery which went down a treat! Many thanks to Paul.

  • Lovely cottage. We stayed with four adults and two kids and it was perfect for a four day break. As others mentioned the photos don't really do the cottage justice - it very well-equipped and cosy. Stately is a good base for exploring the lakes with local shops, pub and brewery / beer hall also available.

  • Lovely cottage, as advertised. Easy check in and good communication. Very clean, nice fire, everything needed supplied. Lovely beds! Nice village, shop, pub with good food, chippy. Great location for south lakes.

  • It's a lovely cottage in the centre of the village. All you need is there for you. Great walks, food and coffee. We had a great time and would do again. It looked small but it was surprisingly spacious, we were 5 adults. Thanks Paul.

Great cycling road and mountain from the doorstep, beautiful circular walking routes - Kentmere Horseshoe, Three Rivers and The Ghost Route.
  • A lovely house, well situated between Kendal and Windermere. A very comfortable clean room.

  • Staveley is not as touristy as Windermere and Gillian's place is located right between the train station and the bus stop. It takes only one minute to the bus stop where can lead you to all the spots in the Lake District. Gillian is very hospitable and her cat and dog are both very gentle. Staveley itself is a beautiful and quaint village. All in all a gem in the Lake.

  • Charming cottage in a small village with a fantastic host! A tip if you're going to be arriving in the evening: the kitchen in the pub closes at 9, so you may have to settle for a liquid dinner.

Meadow Bank Lodge is a quaint, characterful cottage in the picturesque village of Staveley with its wood burning stove this makes for cosy nights. Once an Old Granary the cottage has a garden for al fresco dining and relaxation and is in an area ideal for walkers and cyclists with routes from the door.
Meadow Bank Lodge, once an old granary, still retains many of the original features including a fabulous log burning stove for those cosy nights in after a long walk on the fells. This characterful cottage unrivalled views of surrounding fells from the lounge, bedroom windows and private garden. With the added advantage of a garden to sit and relax in and the children’s playground is only a two minute walk away, this makes an ideal place for families and couples to use as a base to tour the Lake District as there is a bus stop, train station, shops and 2 pubs within a 5 minute walk, ideal for those wanting a change from the car.
Staveley is an ideal choice for a self catering holiday. The village is located half way between the picturesque resort of Windermere and the market town of Kendal and lies at the foot of the Kentmere Valley, a wonderful place, which is very popular for walking, cycling and has stunning panoramic views of both the north and the south Lake District. For those wanting to relax and unwind the village is host to shops, cafes and of course the Hawkshead Brewery, with its own bar and bistro on site, next to the renowned Wilfs cafe; serving delicious home made food. At the end of a long day sightseeing you can always call in at one of the local pubs where you can enjoy some of the local homemade food.
  • Beautiful location, very quiet, lovely village. I would heartily recommend the food at the eagle and child pub nearby. House is very quaint and cosy with a lovely garden and fantastic views. There is no book of instructions, so some aspects were confusing, such as the recycling requirements. Be aware there is no wi-fi. I didn't think this would bother us but it was difficult at times and very hard to communicate with family staying in another village.

  • Beautiful cottage in a wonderful quiet location. Very close to the village centre, which has fantastic bakery, cafes, pubs and a brewery. Wonderful walks are also right on the doorstep. Chris is a great host and has thought of everything. The cottage is very well equipped - you just need to bring personal belongings and food. Really good communication, instructions and easy to book. We stayed 3 nights in July and will highly recommend it.

  • We visited in the middle of May for a long weekend. It's such a beautiful, cosy cottage with lots of character. We very much enjoyed the village of Staveley, the place has such a great atmosphere. 'More' bakery and hawkshead brewery were definitely a highlight! Would highly recommend pear tree cottage, we will certainly be back to visit!

    Cathy2017-05-22T00:00:00Z
  • Chris was most accommodating and helped us find his place as Airbnb had the wrong address advertised. The home itself has adequate off street parking. Is Cosy, warm, inviting and nicely decorated with a great supply of cooking utensils/crockery etc. It is within easy access to Windermere and has great walks out the front door. There was a 2 single beds in one room and a Queen in the other. We loved the wood heater and were very grateful for the supply of wood. Overall it was a wonderful experience, thank you Chris

    Susan2017-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • This is really superbly located for exploring the Lake District. It's quiet, private and cosy and just a 10 minute stroll to the local (Eagle & Child - lovely beer garden); and 7 minutes to the best bakery (More?). A lovely stroll past the weir, and down the back lane parallels the river and is a safe & easy place to walk.. and snack on fresh roadside raspberries & blackberries (in season of course) ! A walk up to the scar is a great way to start the day. And, of course, only a very short drive to the tourist bustle of Windermere & Ambleside.. would strongly recommend this place if you want to be out of the main tourist hub-bub, but close enough to access it all! We stayed for 5 days...not enough time!

    Deb2017-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • Will definitely recommend Peartree cottage. Beautiful cottage and surroundings.

  • We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Pear Tree Cottage. The location was perfect, about 15 minutes from both Kendal and Windermere and beautifully secluded to enjoy the landscape. The cottage had everything we needed and more, with beautiful character and very comfortable beds after long walking days out! We look forward to coming back and will be recommending to friends and family. Thanks again! x

Lakeland cottage lovingly restored but with all modern amenities, in the very popular and thriving village of Staveley, near to Windermere, Bowness and Ambleside. All prices shown are for the minimum 3 days, discounts are available for longer stays.
The cottage is an "upside down" arrangement with the lounge and kitchen upstairs and the bedrooms and bathrooms downstairs. The lounge has been opened up to expose the original beams and gives the cottage an open, airy feel while maximising all the original features of the building.
Thriving village, including pubs and eating establishments, micro brewery, Wheelbase cycle store. Great centre for walking and cycling holidays.
  • This is the perfect get away cottage. It was closer to the main road than I thought but once in the house you would never know. We enjoyed the local area (particularly Hawkshead Brewery just a 10 min walk away) and theres lots of walking right on your doorstep. The cottage itself had everything we needed. The open plan lounge and kitchen was much bigger than I thought from the photos and was the perfect space for evening meals. It really was home from home (actually better than our own home!). We will be going back :)

    Katie2016-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed in this cottage with my partner in my first ever visit to the Lake District and I have to say that I couldn't have asked for a nicer place to stay. The cottage is really easy to find and located in a really lovely area. It's within walking distance of 2 good pubs and the Hawkshead Brewery and only a short drive to Windermere and Kendal. The cottage itself is much bigger than the pictures suggest and was very well equipped for anyone wanting a self catering holiday. Although there were only two of us staying on this trip, the size would be more than suitable for a group of 4-5. Before the stay, the host was very quick to respond to my emails and gave very clear and informative instructions about how to access the cottage and gave his contact details in case we experienced any problems. He also sent us a message during our stay to make sure everything was OK. Altogether, we had a very enjoyable stay and would have no hesitation in returning. Highly recommended!!

  • It is a lovely cottage - we felt at home immediately - the renovation is superb - the upside down arrangement works really well and the kitchen is a good size and well equipped - bathrooms are well appointed and showers great - lovely view of the Howe from the back of the cottage/garden

  • My family and I had a wonderful trip to the Lake District and we loved staying at this adorable cottage. The place was clean, pretty, and had everything we needed to have a pleasant stay. We loved the wood burning stove! The only problem was that the upstairs (lounge and kitchen) heating was controlled remotely by the owners, so when it was cold we had to call them to adjust the heat, which they did, but it was still a little annoying that we couldn't just control it ourselves. All in all though, we had a wonderful time and loved this cottage!

    Chelsea2015-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is very cosy and relaxing, great kitchen and living room, beds are really comfy. It is not far from windermere and kendal, about 4 miles. Lovely views, not far from shop, post office, butchers, chippy and pub. There was a very helpful booklet with everything about the cottage along with instruction manuals for oven, dishwasher and hob. We had a lovely time and will defiantly book here again next year, thanks.

Low Skelgill is located midway between the picturesque villages of Ambleside and Windermere, here you can enjoy all the Lake District has to offer. From watersports, fell walking or just sit and relax in one of the many pubs or restaurants.
This first floor apartment is part of a detached farmhouse in an elevated setting where you can take in some of the most truly impressive scenery the Lake District has to offer. The seating area to the front of the property offers breathtaking views across Lake Windermere to the Langdale fells and beyond. Low Skelgill is a spacious, well equipped, comfortable accommodation including a large bay window where you can sit, relax and enjoy a glass of wine with your evening meal whilst watching the sun set over the lake.
Troutbeck is situated midway between the villages of Ambleside and Windermere in a peaceful and tranquil location nestled in the fells high above Lake Windermere and subsequently has some of the best vantage points to take in the stunning scenery. The bustling villages of Windermere, Bowness and Ambleside are within three miles of Troutbeck, where you can enjoy an abundance of shops, cafes, traditional Lakeland pubs and restaurants. Take a short drive over the picturesque Kirkstone Pass and stop off at Brothers Water where you can walk the shores before dropping down to the Ullswater valley where the numerous villages dotted around the lake have friendly pubs and tea rooms to quench your thirst.
  • A great simple place up on the hill

    Jonathan2017-05-01T00:00:00Z
  • The flat is situated in a quite, rural area high above lake Windermere with an amazing view onto the lake, which can be enjoyed from the lounge and from both bedrooms. The flat is really spacious with lots of storage space, a well-equipped kitchen, a gorgeous dinner place at the panoramic window and is overall well suited for families. The furniture is relatively old and worn but does the job and the bedrooms were cosy. To get there, one has to take a narrow winding road but it was no problem to drive there, even in harsh weather conditions. The owner of the flat was very friendly and helpful and immediately helped us when the heating did not work one evening. Overall, we had a wonderful stay in this apartment and would love to return one day!

    Caroline2017-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic location for walks in all directions: esp. up Wansfell to Red Screes and down to Ambleside, and back through the woods.

  • We had a great stay. The house is isolated, very quiet, but at walking distance from Ambleside and Troubeck. The view from the flat on the Lake is superb. A number of walks are passing above the house so it is a great place to enjoy the Windermere and Ambleside area.

  • We had a wonderful stay in this stunning apartment. Everything was perfect. Just make sure to bring your own toiletries (including hand wash) and towels, and all cooking ingredients.

    Michelle 2017-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • This is a stunning location it gives the impression it's miles from the lake but actually it's a 30 min walk or 5 minute drive. The photos on here don't do it justice the views from this property are incredible. The uninterrupted lake views are simply stunning. We stayed in first floor apartment, no one was above but below was inhabited. Due to a lack of sound proofing every move made by occupants below could be heard, they weren't unnecessarily noisy it was simply a result of it being an old house. Lovely clean apartment but very basically equipped. Perfect if after a base for walking as it's location is in amongst some super walks.

  • We stayed in this place so that we could have easy access to the Kendal Mountain Film Festival. It was a great bolt hole although admittedly not in Kendal but this didn't bother us. The local pub was really busy and very cosy so perfect for a busy team who just wanted somewhere easy to eat. Would highly recommend.

    Stephanie2017-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • Garburn cottage is beautiful (looks small from outside but huge spaces inside) has all you could need (the beds are amazing!) and the host was great with communication. Wish we could have enjoyed the lovely garden (we stayed early March) but will hopefully return during summer one day. The cottage is literally a stones throw from the station and is easy to jump on to Windermere and leave the car, cheap too, £3 or £3.10 return! Spa shop for any items in the village and the Brewery is a must visit! Thank you for a lovely stay :)

    Diane2017-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage less than 10 minutes from Windermere. It was very clean and Tom answered the few questions that I had very quickly. I'll certainly be back here again.

  • We had an excellent stay at Garburn Cottage. I was there with my family. The house was spacious and clean. With a large kitchen and dining room. Very good beds. It also has a sun room with a nice view of the mountains. We enjoyed our stay and recommend it to families looking for a place to stay near Windermere. Windermere and Ambleside are only few minutes away by car. Tip for people that like hiking. In the tourist information point at Windermere or Ambleside you can get maps of walking trails. We did some trails near Ambleside, going from Ambleside to Grasmere and back. That was really beautiful.

  • This is a lovely characterful cottage, comfortable and well-equipped. We thoroughly enjoyed relaxing in the sun-room at the end of a long day in the hills, gazing out over the pretty garden, which is also a real sun-trap. Meadow View is close to Windermere, Ambleside, Kendal, the Kentmere Valley, wonderful walking, mountain biking and cycling locations. Staveley is a vibrant, yet peaceful village with excellent village amenities. We have three comfortable bedrooms, (see our other listings), warm shower room floors, hot powerful showers, simple, but good quality breakfasts. Note our other rooms appear to be along the road but they're all here on one floor. This is an AirBnB mapping issue!
Our rooms are bright, fresh and uncluttered. This is a twin bedded room which can be zip linked for a very large double. See other listings for our other two rooms. There is no TV! Wifi is, however, available. Tea and coffee making facilities are available on the large communal landing, and this is where you will take your breakfast. There is one large table and a serve yourself breakfast, so you may find yourself sitting with other guests, perhaps an opportunity to swap stories or ideas for adventures or activities. We offer a simple breakfast of coffee, tea, cereals, fresh bread or toast, fresh fruit (from the garden when possible) and jams.
Staveley is a fantastic village. It's in a great location for both hill and low level walking, mountain biking and road cycling. It has an excellent pub, a brewery with bar and restaurant, a bike shop, three cafes, a grocery shop, Post Office, pharmacy, a tiny roundhouse theatre, and many small and some larger businesses, many of which are located in the Main Street and the Mill Yard. There are regular events held here, from cycling and running events and races, to beer and folk music festivals. Staveley has a real feeling of life about it and visitors are very much welcomed
  • Stavaley is a very nice and quiet little town at very beautiful spot in the Lake District. Town has everything you need (nice pub (quite allright food is served there), very nice brewery, extremely nice bakery (super good breads), etc.). And town is surrounded with very good hiking routes. Sarah and Dan were very warm and nice host for us. Room was nice. They are very helpful (and they gave many good tips what to do around District) and they prepare extremely good (and fresh) breakfast. My warmest recommendations!

Train station is 5 minutes away and bus stop nearby connects to Windemere, Kendal etc. Lots of lovely walks literally on the doorstep. Good pub food nearby. Sarah is a very warm friendly host and full of good advice about how to make the most of the area. Just wish we could have stayed longer

  • The Hosts - Sarah and Dan are great couple with lots of passion. They were very helpful and gave us good advices about places that are worth seeing. It was a pleasure meeting such a wonderful people. Their place is located in a quiet neighborhood with a good access to the train station and local amenities. The room was very clean and tidy. It was just refurbished. There is a floor heating in the bathroom and brand new shower. We had a lovely view on the hills. Breakfast was delicious, especially homemade jam and coffee. We honestly recommend Sarah and Dan's place. Staveley is a lovely village, quiet and well connected with the main attractions of the Lake District. Local brewery and pubs offer great beers and serve delicious food. It's definitely a place to be.

  • We had a fantastic time at Sarah and Dan's, both were great hosts with good local knowledge. The room was lovely and clean and the shower was amazing! Breakfast was yummy with a range of food and drinks on offer. We've never been to the Lake District before and their knowledge of walks and local landmarks was great, both days they advised us on walks which we tried and they were great and we got some fab photos! • Great value for money. It was a pleasure to stay with Sarah and she went out of her way to provide chocolate hazelnut spread when our 5 year old wanted to have it! Good value for money and the room is big enough for 2 adults and a young child.

  • Everything in Sarahs house was great, power shower, simple but delicious breakfast, local knowledge. We explored the local village instead of travelling elsewhere, beautiful! Thanks Sarah

  • I had a really great time at Sarah's house. She is very concerned about her guest and the quality of their stay, offering healthy breakfast, quiet comfortable rooms and clean bathrooms. Sarah and Dan -the hosts- are very nice and lovely, they have good knowledge about the area and will definitely be able to give you good advice for your stay in Cumbria. It is definitely worth it and you won't regret it.

  • Graham's house is absolutely beautiful. It has all the amenities you need for a lovely weekend away, which is exactly what we had when we stayed here. It's super cosy with central heating as a cute gas fireplace too. The beds were all extremely comfortable as well. The location is very quite and easy to navigate, you would need a car to get around though. Only a short drive from Windermere and Ambleside so experiencing the Lake District was a breeze. Thank you Grahame for an amazing stay!

    Stephanie2016-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation is perfectly placed to enjoy some great walks around the area, enjoy the local brewery or use as a base to travel further into the Lakes. The cottage itself is furnished to a high standard and very comfortable. Highly recommend!

Private room within an Airbnb house; Comfy bed, sofa and dressing table with tea/coffee facilities, WiFi & a private lock on bedroom door. This room shares a bath/shower/toilet room with TWO other letting rooms within this house. There are no kitchen or cooking facilities, it is simply room only. If its cheap and comfortable accommodation you're looking for then this is the perfect place! The cottage is in the centre of Windermere 2 minutes walk from the train/bus station, cafes, bars and shops.
Within the room is a dressing table and mirror, plug sockets available all over. Shelves, and rail with hangers, tea/coffee making facilities and a comfy chair to relax in after a long day out in the lakes. WiFi is included for free
Very peaceful neighborhood, lots of friendly locals around.
  • Nice room, good location - and great silent boiling kettle so you can sneak in a coff while your partner sleeps (!)

    Savannah2017-06-10T00:00:00Z
  • This BnB was under renovation when we arrived, however the room was perfect and as per the pictures. I can imagine when the rest of the place is completed it will be beautiful. My partner and I stayed for one night and found the room to be cosy and very comfortable. The place is also in a great location, only a few minutes walk from the center of Windermere where there are some great restaurant choices. Overall I would recommend this room.

  • The location is really strategic and convenience. It's only 2 minutes walk to the station and booths (supermarket) and there are restaurant around the place. the room is clean and nice but quite small; it's just enough for 2 peoples. I'm Recommend Matt house for people who are going to Windermere with friends not family.

  • Great location

    Jools2017-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice and convenient location, nearby many shops and restaurants. Confortable bed and very clean bathrooms. Matt's place was a very good choice!

    Perrine2017-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Matt's place was exactly as described, the room was perfect for my needs and the system of key collection and drop off very simple. As it was a shared bathroom with a few other rooms occasionally you might have to wait to use it and rely on others to be clean and tidy but on the whole it was just what I needed. Booth's supermarket is 2mins up the road, right by Windemere station, from which you can get a bus to Grasmere and other locations for about £7, taking 30mins. Perfect for exploring the area without a car. It's an ideal option for those on a budget after a clean room in a well connected area of the Lakes.

    Daniel 2017-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • It's of great value! I like the location and the room is clean and bright. It can be better if the heater is stronger in the room, because it's winter, the cold is severe.... Windermere is a lovely place! I miss it!

This is a double room and we also have two twin rooms each of which has zip-linked beds so we can accommodate up to 6 people if you want to look at our other listings and book up to three rooms for your friends or family group. There is no TV! Wi-fi is, however, available. Tea and coffee making facilities are available on the large communal landing area, and this is where you will take your breakfast. There is one large table and a serve yourself breakfast, so you may find yourself sitting with other guests perhaps an opportunity to swap stories or ideas for adventures or activities. We keep our prices low and offer a simple breakfast of coffee, tea, cereals, fresh bread or toast, fresh fruit (often from the garden) and jams. If you prefer a cooked breakfast there are at least three good cafes in the village, just a 5 minute walk away.
  • Sarah is a really nice and warm-hearted person, and we feel great living here. The room is clean and the bed is soft and comfortable, the breakfast is also wonderful! The house is near to the train station, and it's very convenient to take a bus or a train to Windermere. :) It's a really nice experience!

    RUIQING2017-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • Sarah is the most wonderful host we have ever had in our 3 years experience on airbnb. The room was very comfy and nice decorated. The breakfast was simple but good enough for travelers like us who were just busy going out to some places. Sarah was very helpful on some tips to local sightseeing. We are Chinese, but had some wonderful conversion with Sarah and felt very welcome there. The location (of that small town) has several different routes going in and out by a car which we found very convenient. But if you don't have a car, the train station is about 10 minutes walk from Sarah's place. However, I would recommend to have your own car which adds more freedom to yourself.

    Sam "Xuan"2017-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic time in this charming B&B. The village itself is quite pleasant but more importantly it is only a short drive from lake Windermere. Sarah is a great host who offers tasty homemade jams and jellies for breakfast. She was also highly informative about the lake district and thoroughly enjoyed chatting with her and the other guests!

    Andrew2017-09-24T00:00:00Z

  • Sarah was a fantastic host for my business trip to the lake district. You can tell straight away that she is happy to help with any needs during your stay. The rooms are all recently refurbished and very clean, the ensuite bathroom had a great shower! The BnB is 2 doors down from the train station and is a short walk into the centre of the village.

    Lee2016-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • Sarah's BnB is absolutely great. The location is perfect, right by the train station & 5 minutes from everything in Staveley. The communication and directions were really prompt and clear, room was very nice. Totally flawless, I can't recommend highly enough

  • Pleasant stay in the Lakes in this well equipped unit with plenty of space. The mould and bad smell in the bedroom put a dampener on our stay and the shower temperature was difficult to control.

    Kelsey2017-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommended cottage as long as you don't mind being a little way out of Ambleside itself. Excellent facilities and comfortable bed and furniture. A very good size for a couple. Views are spectacular and Ambleside is a very good base from which to explore.

    Graham Jones2017-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • An absolutely perfect place to stay in the Lakes, the pictures don't do it justice. We were three female friends in our 20s on a long weekend and had ample space (though an adult may struggle to fit in the single bed if they're much taller than 5' 6"!). Lovely modern fitted bathroom, which was a nice surprise. The cottage is cosy, very well stocked - including many leaflets of local walks, which was extremely useful - and spotlessly clean. Not the place to stay if you want to be in the heart of Ambleside, but it's only 25 mins walk down to town, and the views from the cottage are worth it!!

Our 4 star family-owned lodge is located on Limefitt Park, just 2 miles from the very popular town of Windermere in the glorious Lake District National Park. The site itself has a beck running through it, accessible for dipping your toes in! There is also an on-site pub, shop and children's play area. A pony-trekking centre, 2 very popular pubs and the village of Troutbeck are a short walk away. Numerous hiking trails also start from the park, with hundreds of others within driving distance.
The living area was refurbished to a high standard for the 2015 season.
The lodge is within a park of many other lodges. The park is very quiet and all residents and guests are there with the same objective - to relax and have fun in a scenic setting.
  • A really lovely cottage! Very clean and comfortable! Laura prepared basically everything we need in this accommodation, dvds, books, etc. The liveing room, dining area and kitchen are big enough for five of us.

  • The house is super beautiful and all equipment of the housing is morn than enough especially kitchen . All the instructions including check-in procedure and in-house guidance are so clear .Recommended to stay here for those who travelling to Lake District by car . The car can park outside the house and it's not far from Windermere / Ambleside . Yet, the wifi signal is not very strong . My family and me had a very nice stay here. Thanks a lot.

    Jojo2017-06-07T00:00:00Z
  • We've just had a great week here with our 4 children. We didn't do very much cooking at all, but the kitchen looked like it had everything we'd need (including dishwasher and washer/dryer). There was no Wifi at the lodge (although you could walk to nearer reception to get it) and mobile coverage for us both was pretty poor (on O2 and Three), but a more offline week did us no harm at all! The lodge warmed up really nicely and quickly when we got in and the shower (which can so often be a disappointment in holiday homes) was absolutely fantastic (hot, really decent pressure) and was better than we have at home! Laura was very responsive to messages at and after booking. Lovely quiet park and somewhere we'd happily return.

    Kerrie2017-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • From the moment the 4 of us walked in we were impressed by the quality and attractiveness of the lodge. It was spacious, well-equipped, cosy and really well decorated. It also came with DVDs, games and enough space in the kitchen and bedrooms to store everything we needed. The location was also perfect, both for walking and sourcing supplies like food and drink. The only downside I would raise was the boiler (and specifically hot water) seemed a bit temperamental, however we got it working the end. Really enjoyed my stay and would highly recommend, especially for the bargain price!

    Nick2017-05-18T00:00:00Z
  • Brilliant few days in the Lakes. Lodge was clean with adequate space and good amenities. - barely a hitch all weekend! The host Laura was extremely helpful as we contacted regarding one of the guests reduced mobility and she was happily able to advise us. The only tiny issue we encountered was in the main bathroom the shower head was not on the wall. This meant we all had to use the en suite in the master bathroom or try and use the hand held shower head. Otherwise the lodge was nicely decorated, warm and although the kitchen was small, it was good for a cooked breakfast. No phone signal and very very little wifi - not really usable at the lodge. This was actually quite nice as we were able to switch off and enjoy each others company. Location was great and was close to Windermere lake if you had a car; easy access and lots to do. There were also some nice pubs just minutes up the road which we also really enjoyed. The park pub/restaurant was pretty quite on the Saturday night but we did go early in the season. Overall with really enjoyed our weekend and wouldn't change anything. Would highly recommend and would happily return. Thanks Laura.

  • We had a lovely, restful stay at Georgina's place. She met us on arrival and gave us a run down on things. It was a nice to have milk and cereal provided. The flat was very clean and well set up. A great location for walking and biking in the Lake District.

  • This is a fantastic place to stay. The accommodation was lovely, location great and convenient and the hosts very helpful. I couldn't recommend it enough.

  • The room was perfect for our needs. Georgina and her family were so welcoming and allowed us to check ourselves in and use the laundry facilities. We had a great stay and would love to stay again soon.

  • This place is very quiet and scenic. My host, Georgina, is very nice and helpful. I enjoyed my stay.

  • Georgina and her family were very kind and good, and really welcomed us with their heart, especially when we were about to leave there, “small daughter” in Georgina’s arms showed us bright, warm and wistful smile, and even threw herself into our arms. Wse still don’t forget it. What a lovely baby! And the room is very spacious, cozy and clean. It is really well-equipped. We did not have any inconvenience during staying there.

  • We had a great stay in Stavely this week. The room is small but perfectly formed with a comfy bed and hot shower. The village itself is quite quiet but has a great local pub and a brewery. It does, however, have good links by road and rail to the lakes and dales. Georgina was friendly and really helpful. I would recommend!

  • We had a lovely stay there! The room was clean & tidy. Thank you for your hospitality, Georgina & family!

....****DISCOUNTS AVAILABLE FOR MID_WEEK BOOKINGS DECEMBER.....PLEASE ENQUIRE.******** It is an easy walk from the train and bus station to our ground floor flat. It's tucked away in a secluded sunny spot, yet moments away from the vibrant cafe culture that is Windermere. Warm and clean we aim to make you feel welcome.
In a small purpose built block our flat has been refurbished recently and decorated to a high standard. There is a shared lawn area, enclosed by hedge and walls. There is an allocated space in the car-park. In the distance, the Coniston fells are an inspiring view, but its just as convenient to walk from the door. Lots of choices, including the lake shore , Orrest Head view point, much loved by Alfred Wainwright, the beech trees of Sheriffs Wood or the unspoilt School Knott tarn.
The mainline train station at Kendal town is called Oxenholme, Lake district. From there a local train service runs into Windermere. The popular cafe culture in Windermere contributes to a vibrant village. Booths is our local supermarket where you will find regional products. A Co-Op and Sainsburys are on the main streets. We are proud of the beautiful scenery, and if you don't want to drive, you will find lots of other means to explore. Walks from the door step take you uphill to small tarns, view points or down through woodland, past pretty streams to the lakes shore. Increasing numbers of accessible paths open up access to people of a fitness and abilities "Wild" and lake swimming is increasingly popular, you may even be joined by an otter! There are many historic houses and sites to visit locally reflecting the poets, craftspeople and artists who have lived here. Even if it rains, you will still find lots to do. The local cinema has a Wurlitzer organ and regular recitals. Visiting orchestras host concerts over summer. There are lots of activities throughout the year. We try to keep an up to date guide available. A new and very successful initiative last year was the winter German market. Our Christmas lights are strung between the streets, Father Christmas arrives by train in December, and local groups arrange regular events through the year. Windermere is well served by Churches. There is a Quaker meeting , and farther afield a Buddhist center, at both of which, people of all, or no faith are welcome.
  • Fiona's place made for the perfect "home away from home" - it's well equipped and cozy (great bed and water pressure!) Cute little terraces in both the front and back of the house. Walking distance to loads of restaurants and pubs, Sainsburys is literally around the corner for groceries. Fiona and her husband are very friendly and helpful. They gave us great tips for walks; our favourite was Orrest Head which starts just 5 mins walk from the home. The lake district is a very special place to visit and Fiona's home makes for a great base to explore numerous areas. Would highly recommend staying here. Thank you Fiona and Dave hope to see you again one day :)

  • Fiona's house is a very clean and cozy house. It has almost everything you need when u are traveling, which is much more than you can imagine. The tv is a smart tv and you can watch Netflix or YouTube, etc. you are the only guest in this house so it is very privacy. The house is in 5-minute walking distance from rail station and are surrounded with stores, cafes, restaurants. Fiona is very friendly and willing to help u solve all troubles. All in all , both me and my father like this house very much and we would highly recommend it to others who are going to visit the Lake District.

  • Well situated for walking in the Lake District and a few minutes from lake Windermere. The flat was very clean and well equipped with all necessities for cooking and toiletries. Really lovely host with excellent communication.

    Ewa2017-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Great flat, very central and great to access climbing and hiking spots in the lakes. Fiona and Dave are lovely hosts and the flat has all necessary amenities. We definitely recommend to stay with them.

  • Fiona was a fantastic host. We loved the flat and not only did it have all the basics but there was so many added extras too! Everything we'd accidentally forgotten Fiona had spares! It was in a lovely location right in the centre of Windermere so it was fantastic for travelling to other lakes! Also there was a fantastic chippy around the corner. The fishcakes were incredible! We'd absolutely recommend this place to anyone going to the lake district!

  • Had an absolutely beautiful stay! This place is an absolute gem! The flat is immaculate and you can see all the care and attention that Fiona has put in, and was all very much appreciated! The picnic basket and backpack along with the radox bath bubbles and girly creams in the cupboards and hairspray were unexpected extras which really made this place feel comfortable and homely. The kitchen is so well equipped its easy to cook any meal you fancy, the bedroom was lovely and roomy and the fluffy blanket was delightful! The location is superb, right in the centre of everything, many shops, cafes, restaurants and bars within walking distance. But once back in the flat it's lovely and peaceful so can not hear any of the busy town. Bowness is also not fair and easy to walk to. Booking and check-in were easy and simple with great communication from both. Dave met us at the flat and was lovely and friendly, seemed like nothing would be too much trouble and knew the area well. I can not recommend this place enough and I was very sad to leave, gave me unbelievably high expectations for the other places we stayed and they just did not compete with this! Thankyou for such a fantastic few days!

  • Fiona was extremely welcoming and friendly, the place was immaculate and very well equipped. A cosy cottage perfect for a couples retreat. Ideal location for Windermere and Bowness, local ammenities on the door step yet the accommodation is set back far enough to avoid any noises from roads or passing people.

Privately owned deluxe holiday lodge situated in a peaceful area of white cross bay leisure park & marina, 2 miles from windermere, bowness & ambleside. A highly attractive property in a very secluded location for privacy and relaxation.
  • A lovely cottage in the resort. On the hills surrounded by the forest. A great experience. Board games, DVDs and towels provided.

  • It's a nice resort like setting but far away from the main drag. It cost £9 every time you want to go out to town and it was difficult to get back if it was late night as no taxis were available. One night we had to take the bus and they charged us double the amount £18 to drop us to white cross bay. I thought that was a rip off. I would prefer to stay closer to town as this place was 3 miles away. If you have your own car it's perfectly fine. But don't go by the pictures on Air B&B. It's not the same as you see online. Most important there is NO WIFI at all there. They may say it has WIFI trust me there isn't. Neither do regular phones work there as I am told there are no towers around to pick up signals.

    Sweeth2016-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • Great little place to stay at as it was very cosy and clean and well located near the various sights in Lake District. Though there was no Wifi, DVDs and games were provided to keep us entertained.

Victorian stone house 1.5 miles from Windermere on the A591. Parking available for two cars, public transport on the A591. All rooms have double glazing. Fenced garden for dogs. Local shop and petrol. Without transport, taxi or bus needed to go to Bowness.
Allan Bank is equally suitable for adults who want a comfortable home at the end of a day admiring the views, or for families who come back with hiking boots and wet clothes - it does rain in the Lakes! For both parties it's very convenient being on the A591, on a bus route and opposite a convenience store and petrol station!
It's a special place because from the back door there is a public footpath that leads up to the lovely village of Troutbeck. On the other hand there is a really convenient Spar shop just across the road - and a petrol station (actually not too many around).
  • A fantastic 5 days in a great house provided by a brilliant host! A really good location for those prepared to drive around to explore the Lakes! Elaine was a fantastic host, going out of her way to ensure we were looked after from start to finish! It was so well stocked it was like staying in a BnB without the live in host! Would highly recommend and look forward to staying again in the future!

  • This is a lovely place. It's well appointed with ample amenities. The Chinese touch in your decor is nice. It's also quiet and great kitchen for our breakfast. Spacious master bedroom though the other 2 rooms a bit tight for our party of 6. It's also very accessible from center of Windermere.

  • Elaine's house in the lakes district was just a lovely place to stay, two nights just wasn't long enough! The area has many great walks and pubs close by, definitely a great base for exploring the area. We found the house comfortable and warm with everything we needed. Communicating with Elaine was very easy and pleasant and her daughter was most helpful and welcoming arranging everything for our arrival. We will definitely be back!

  • The house is on a hill and the access is not suitable with a buggy. The amenities were ample and the host was very warm and welcoming.

  • A lovely old lakeland house is an apt description, the house felt friendly and welcoming. There is a fully functioning, warm dining kitchen with all the facilities you need, comfortable bedrooms and a big lounge. A wealth of local information is supplied plus lots of little extras. There is parking for two cars at the bottom of the shared driveway.

    Derek2017-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • Elaine is a great host, responding quickly and always offering most helpful instructions. Elaine's house is lovely and clean. Three bedrooms are quite cosy, and the living room is full of sunshine. The location is quite convenient, and the bus stop is just around the corner, from which we can go to any scenic places in Lake Districts. Many thanks! Elaine! We will definitely come back again!
