Places to stay in Kinderhook Lake

Places to stay in Kinderhook Lake
Note: Kinderhook Lake is let down every year from Oct 15- April 15th, and there is no water view from my cottage then. The lake bottom may be snow covered, but that depend on the winter weather. Come relax in our cute lakefront cottage! The renovated space has amazing views of Kinderhook Lake, a dock for swimming, explore the lake by canoe or kayak! Grill on the porch and enjoy the breathtaking sunset. Art venues, antiquing, trails nearby.
The views speak for themselves. This cottage, perfect for two to four guests, will provide a serene atmosphere for outdoor activities, relaxation, grilling and hanging out on the deck and is centrally located with short drives to Albany, Hudson, Great Barrington, Lenox (Tanglewood), and many more fun places.
Kinderhook Lake is a popular place for vacationers and lakefront homes. Our cottage is located on the quieter side of the lake so you'll have more privacy and more space to enjoy. http://gothamist.com/2015/12/21/arty_weekend_gallery_hopping_in_ups.php
  • This sweet cottage is bright and cozy, even on a dreary day. The bed is VERY comfortable, the shower is great, and the kitchen fully supplied with quality appliances, cookware, and dishes. The lovely personal touches tell you this gem and the area are much loved and happily shared. It's a winner for sure.

  • This cottage is an amazing, serene getaway for anyone! It sits right by the lake and Gail the host is wonderful - she thought about everything to make my family and I comfortable and was always available for any questions we had. I would recommend this cottage to anyone !

    Dinah2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Gail's place is a wonderful relaxing getaway right on the lake. The house was fully stocked with everything you need to make your own meals, which we appreciated. We grilled on the deck every night with the amazing view. Hannaford is a great supermarket that is only 10 minutes away. I would recommend renting the kayaks / canoe as well to take advantage of the lake. We also enjoyed driving into the town of Chatham where they have cute and delicious cafes and restaurants.

  • Quiet, clean, and comfortable and just steps from the lake. A relaxing get-a-way.

  • Gail's cottage is so cute and quaint and perfectly located on beautiful Kinderhook lake. The cottage is well-stocked with everything one could need for cooking, grilling, and making a campfire if you so choose. The place was clean and comfortable and Gail provides all sorts of literature and recommendations for the area. Gail is easy to communicate with and quick to respond to any and all questions you might have. We so enjoyed sitting out on the deck overlooking the lake while enjoying our morning coffee. We saw everything from eagles to herrings, not to mention huge fish leaping in the air. We brought our own kayaks to enjoy a serene paddle all around the lake. Gail has a super easy access for kayaking. I didn't even get my feet wet getting in and out of the kayak (although I did have expert help from my husband.) If you want to have a beautiful relaxing stay on the lake at a reasonable price, book Gail's place!

  • Paul’s lake house is just beautiful and relaxing. We spent thanksgiving weekend there and when it was time to check out we all where heart broken. The view of the sunrise from the deck was amazing, and listening to all the sounds of nature across the lake it was something that we definitely want to experience again. Thank you Paul .

    Jenny2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • Paul’s lake house was very nice. The view was gorgeous and everything was very clean as well. The boys loved the hot tub and the deck was big enough for us to put our cornhole set on. If we ever rent another lake house for my dad when he comes to visit, this one is at the top of our list.

    Lindsey2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • This home is an amazing spot for a getaway! Paul's lakeside home is a beautiful place where my friends and I now have some great memories. The home is large and offers lots of opportunities for fun. The lake is very clean and the outside shower is a very nice touch. All of our conversations with Paul had very quick responses and he made us feel very welcomed. The house is a 25 minute drive from the Albany airport and just a few hours by train from New York City. There are stores just minutes from the home. Highly recommend!

  • Great place, outstanding view and incredibly quiet lake. Lake in the back yard made my vacation amazing kids didn't even stay inside for more than 15 min. I would love to rent boat or jetski but no commercial rental on this lake(that's why it's so quiet). Definitely recommend the place and will be back next year.

    Sarah2019-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding location for this lake cottage, with every amenity needed. Having use of kayak and rowboat, and catching bass and pike just added to the experience. A rainbow too nites in a row was also an added plus!! Fresh eggs could be purchased at a local stand 1 block away!!

    Pete2019-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful waterfront home with quick and easy access to the Capital. Stunning views of the lake and local wildlife. Enjoy them from the dock or the hot tub. Lots of local markets and farms to visit. (Samascott Ice Cream is top notch). Highly recommend.

  • This place was wonderful. Clean, neat, stylish, and awesome. Couldnt say enough good things about the house and the most (Michael). Planning my next trip!

    Dave2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed the house and the lakeview. The house was cozy and very welcoming. Michael was quick answering our questions which was much appreciated.

    Marie2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful retreat location by a picturesque lake. Gorgeous allocation of space and ample facilities to be a home away from home. We especially appreciated the local tips from Michael including the nearby orchard for apple ciders and donuts. We had such a great time that we extended our stay which Michael was very quick and helpful in facilitating. Would love to be back and to stay again at the lakehouse!

    Malaya2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • This house is every bit of amazing on the lake. The house is impeccably clean, the check in was easy and the communication was on point. Other lake properties are in close prozimity on left and right and there is a small boat launch on property however it wasnt an interruption. People were incredibly friendly. This house makes you want to be at the lake every weekend and enjoy life with friends and family.

    Stacia2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful peaceful location. Lovely house with great facilities

    Gwen2019-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • Micheal was a great host and the house was clean! The lake was beautiful, we too the kayaks out and went for a swim around One Tree Island. I would recommend this place and would probably stay again!

    Stephanie2019-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • The home was the perfect getaway. Come and relax in a beautiful environment. The lake is wonderful for kayaking :)

    Joanne2019-05-26T00:00:00Z
  • Michael and family - we greatly enjoyed your beautiful lakefront house and everything it offered. We couldn't decide which was more stunning...the expansive views of the lake from your great room or the superbly styled house décor and furnishings. All top notch! We appreciated all your help and gracious hosting while we were there. Best of luck to you and your family. It was a weekend full of great memories and good times.

  • We had a great time at Rob’s place. Even better than the photos, plenty of space for 13 adults and had everything you might need. Would definitely head back!

    Anna2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Secluded luxury. Cozy fireplace with provided wood. Super clean. Tons of space. Great host. Just a perfect getaway. Thanks so much Rob!

    Joseph2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Great house, plenty of room for people to spread out, and well stocked with kid toys, baby gates, and kid plates, cups and utensils. Made for a very easy stay with 8 kids in the house. Easy communication with host.

    Katherine2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Rob's property and house is incredible! We had my 30th birthday here and it was the most relaxing, and beautiful trip. There is more than enough space for everyone to feel like they have their own space. There is a nice and comfy living room/dining room open area that allowed for easy hanging. The firepit and dock w/ kayaks and fishing poles were the best part of our trip. Thank you Rob!

    Lane2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Camp Kinderhook is an absolutely wonderful place for a fun and relaxing retreat by the lake. The home is beautiful and has everything you could need to make your stay comfortable. Rob was extremely responsive and the check-in process was seamless. They provided everything from kayaks, paddle boards, lawn games, a lakeside hammock to relax in and the perfect dock to fish from...which my 6 year old did from sun up to sun down!! They have a great fire pit down by the lake which was the perfect spot to end the night with drinks and s'mores. This home would be great for a large group of friends or a family retreat with lots of space for everyone! I highly recommend this home and look forward to staying here again!

    Jessica2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • This place is worth every penny. As soon as we walked in we were mesmerized by the high ceilings, picturesque views, and the sweet gift of Prosecco they left for us. The place is super clean and was completely stocked with everything we needed. Deer come right up to the windows in the morning and stare at you from the hill. The lake was just a few steps away and we had an amazing time kayaking, swimming, and roasting marshmallows in the fire pit. It was truly a relaxing weekend and a great getaway from the city. Only about 2 hours away from the city. We LOVED this estate and absolutely recommend it.

    Candice2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Such a perfect home for a weekend getaway. Even more beautiful in person. Impeccable grounds right on the lake! Light, bright, comfortable and super spacious. What made this place so special were all the extra details, like the soft towels, comfy mattresses, necessary amenities, etc. Everything was sparkling clean! Spent a long weekend here with my girlfriends and we will definitely be back!

    Kelly2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • This is a summer weekend paradise. Beautiful water/dock on sprawling grounds. The place is amazing and has everything you would ever need. Would love to come back again!

  • Dominic's place has a very relaxed vibe and is perfect for anyone, especially someone that wants to "unplug" for a long weekend. He has a very nice place and the description is spot on! He also offers everything you could think of, including kayaks and fishing gear, that we put to good use. We would definitely come back up again for a quiet weekend! Thanks for hosting us!

    Anthony2019-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay! Dominic was fantastic!

    Holly2019-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • Quiet, peaceful, comfortable. Enjoy kayaking on the lake and sitting on the screened porch relaxing. Would definitely stay there again.

    Judy2019-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • Dominic is a very responsive, friendly and accommodating host. Communication was a non-issue. The house is inviting, with a large open room where we could dine and play poker by the fire. The porch on the lakeshore was fantastic for morning coffee. There are train tracks a few blocks away, so they pass by every few hours, which we found soothing but guests should be aware of.

    John2018-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • The place is adorable and the host is very accommodating. He is helpful and very responsive. The place helped create wonderful memories for our family. Great space, quiet neighborhood, peaceful environment.

  • We had the most relaxing weekend at Maggie’s. The place is amazing and Maggie has thought of absolutely everything you could need! We brought our dog and she had a bin for poop bags, a doggy bed & dog treats. The place looks exactly like the photos - waking up to that view over the pond every morning ... We will definitely be back!!

    Katriona2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Beyond stunning. We never wanted to leave - gorgeous views day and night. We actually went outside and laid in the grass and watched the sky at night because it was so beautiful. Comfortable bed, and Maggie was a fantastic host that went out of her way to make sure we were welcome and comfortable.

    Allison2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed an incredibly cozy weekend stay at The Bird Cottage! It was ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Delightful touches and yummy provisions as bonus! A hiking trail out back and great nearby restaurants. Book it!

    Thomas2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Maggie’s place was absolutely fantastic. There’s is not a single thing I could think to complain about. Whether it’s coffee and snacks, or enough towels for 6 people even as two guests, the place was amazing. To top it all off biscuit is the friendliest pup in the world, and Maggie’s number one rule is you cannot leave until you give biscuit a belly rub. Would highly recommend.

    Mert2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Maggies place was amazing. It is in a very peaceful and beautiful location. Maggie was quick to help us with all of our needs. The thought and care put into the guesthouse was beyond our expectations. We highly recommend staying here.

    Aliafzal2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Maggie was the most hospitable host I've ever had on AirBnB! From the snack-stocked mini fridge to the hand delivered quiche for breakfast- Maggie thought of everything. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Bird Cottage, the trails around Oom Pond, and our dog loved being able to explore the area! 10/10 would recommend for a quaint and quiet getaway

    Elke2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • The Bird Cottage exceeded my expectations. Maggie and Peter were amazing hosts; very warm and welcoming. The cottage was spacious and had many special touches-cozy bedding, lovely artwork and furnishings and lots of snacks and beverages. The property is lovely and very peaceful and quiet. I stayed there in the winter but would love to come again in the warmer months. It also lives up to its name as I saw many beautiful birds through the windows!

    Marian2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay in Maggie's guest house and absolutely recommend! Maggie was really communicative and helpful in advance of the trip, letting me know about the weather and possible activities in the area, which was all greatly appreciated. Check-in was seamless and the space itself is beautifully appointed and cozy! Maggie had clearly thought of every possible amenity we might have needed for our weekend and was especially thoughtful in leaving us some special treats, including a homemade quiche and maple syrup made by a neighbor! The property itself is also really lovely and worth spending some time meandering. We had a great morning drinking coffee by the pond with Biscuit, her yellow lab, who I am still thinking about. :) This is a great spot for any solo travelers or couples--we absolutely hope to visit again. Thanks, Maggie!

  • We had an amazing weekend at Susan’s. Our goal for the weekend was to escape the city, explore local fare, and give our pup much needed green space. Susan’s place delivered on all of these. The space was great — the bed was extremely comfortable, it felt very private, and the house in itself was very dog friendly. Susan made us an amazing breakfast both mornings of our stay, and had a great system of playing music at an agreed upon time to let us know she was in the downstairs space. Outside of making breakfast for us, she left the bedroom, kitchen, and living area for our private use. The location was also exactly what we were looking for. We had a great time exploring the local towns, hiking the conservatory, visiting the Chatham Brewery, and listening to live music late night in Valatie. Susan’s place is on an incredible piece of land, and our mini goldendoodle, Charlie, loved exploring. Plus, Susan and Charlie hit it off and she was kind enough to spend some time with her while we explored. Susan’s an amazing pup sitter. Charlie LOVED her. We had an amazing weekend at Susan’s and would 100% recommend her to anyone looking for a nice, quiet weekend away from the city!

  • My partner and I stayed at Susan's to have a few days to explore the area and get our dog out of the city. We had a lovely stay - Susan is a kind and warm person who made us feel immediately welcome in her home. We ended up with pretty terrible weather, which just meant more cozy time indoors in front of the wood burning stove, which was a treat. Susan had a great recommendation for where we could go for a trail run, and when the sleet cut that short, we ended up exploring Chatham's main street - Goodness on Main had incredible baked goods, and I bought yarn for a sweater at The Warm Ewe. We really loved the area, and Susan's house was a very comfortable and cozy jumping off point for us. Susan has had an interesting career and is genuinely interested in other people, we enjoyed getting to know her over breakfast and appreciated her warm hospitality.

    Karina2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Susan’s place is exactly as billed and more. We loved being able to get away and Susan’s place is so warm and welcoming. Even without a door, you have absolute privacy and it is like you have the place to yourself. Breakfast was amazing and Susan is such a wonderful woman. We would definitely stay again

  • Liked staying at Vicki's Airbnb. The home was clean and Vicki was a great communicator and offered to make me a pot of coffee in the morning. The location was great for me and the area is so beautiful. I visited in January and cannot imagine how beautiful this area of the country is in Spring, Summer or Fall. Would stay again. Mark

Thoughtfully designed two-bedroom apartment located above a former millinery shop built in 1880. Beautiful natural light. Mix of vintage and modern amenities, including two guest bedrooms, full kitchen and bath, high speed wifi, onsite laundry and work desk. Private tree-shaded back porch overlooking Kinderhook Creek and Pachaquack Preserve. 20 minutes to Hudson. 30 minutes to Albany, the Berkshires and the Catskills.
An effortless upstate getaway combining modern convenience and vintage charm. Perfect for two couples, a small group of friends, or a live-work home base in the Historic Hudson Valley. Includes two guest bedrooms—one king, one queen. Full bath. High speed wifi. Apple TV. AC throughout. Calphalon cutlery and cookware. Linens and necessities. Private tree-shaded back porch overlooking Kinderhook Creek and Pachaquack Preserve. Centrally located on Valatie's Main Street with all of the village's amenities within a 2-minute walk—restaurants, antique shops, bookstore, pilates studio, wine shop, library. Easy access for tubing, fly fishing and swimming in the creek—entering through Pachaquack Preserve. (Please note that we don't provide kayaks, tubes or other outdoor gear, so it's best to bring your own) We're right next door to the Main Street Diner, one of the best diners in Columbia County. They open at 6, close at 9. We eat there at least 3 times a week. They're like family to us. You can park in the free municipal parking lot directly across from the house. PLEASE NOTE: This is a second floor apartment up a flight of stairs, in case anyone in your party has mobility issues.
Warm and welcoming, Valatie is one of the nation's first self-sustaining industrial villages—now a tightly knit community of small businesses, creative professionals and craftspeople. Pronounced “Va-lay-sha,” a Dutch word meaning “little falls,” Valatie is named after the three beautiful waterfalls that surround it. The tranquil Kinderhook Creek bisects the village and is a favorite swimming hole and tubing destination—as well as a Blue Ribbon trout fishing waterway reminiscent of the shallow, meandering rivers of Montana's big sky country. Prior to the Dutch settling the area in the 17th century, Valatie served as as a spiritual meeting place for the region’s nomadic Mohican tribes whose ancient footpaths are still walkable today along Pachaquack Preserve, a 5 minute walk from the house. Proud of its diverse history, Valatie is central to many of the Hudson Valley's landmark destinations. The Martin Van Buren National Historic Site, Luycas Van Alen House, Edna St. Vincent Millay's Steepletop, Ichabod Crane Schoolhouse and the Benedict Arnold House are all within a quick drive—as well as cultural destinations like the Jack Shainman Gallery: The School, Art OMI, the Shaker Museum at Mount Lebanon and the Won Dharma Center. A popular antiquing destination, Valatie is located just 20 minutes north of Hudson's thriving restaurant and cultural scene—and just 10 minutes away from Chatham's beautifully redeveloped downtown with a weekend's worth of shops, bookstores, bakeries, breweries and culinary restaurants—not to mention a vintage art house movie theater, the Crandell Theatre. Valatie makes for the perfect launch point for easy day trips to the Catskills, the Berkshires, Woodstock, Saugerties, Vermont, Lake George, the Adirondacks and Albany's Capitol District (including Troy's bourgeoning creative scene).
  • I loved Seth’s space. I thought it was a really great value for the cost. My favorite things: 1) The kitchen came fully stocked with all the tools you need if you want to bring your own ingredients and make food there. 2) The space is so simple but thoughtfully-designed. All the lamps and lighting made it feel so cozy and nice. 3) I really liked that there were actual living, thriving houseplants in each room. Just made it feel that much nicer.

  • This is my 2nd stay at Hudson House. I enjoyed and appreciated the first stay, the 2nd time around was just as fine. Anytime I'm in this area, I will look to book here again, top notch!

  • Hudson House is a nicely rehabed older commercial building, tastefully decorated and very comfortable. It is located on the main street, but it is not a heavily traveled street and all traffic pretty much ceases around 10 pm. I had no problem sleeping, beds are very comfortable. Kitchen is well stocked with cookware and utensils. Main Street Diner right next door, opens at 6am and is very convenient for an early breakfast. Very Nice, highly recommended.

    Dave2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Seth is a wonderful host. His place is sparkling clean and has everything you would need to stay in the house. I loved the clear instructions Seth provided before our arrival. The house was easy to locate and the check in was a breeze. He also provided local suggestions and the list was very thorough. We loved the art, amenities and the comfort of the house. It is one of the best Airbnb we have ever stayed at. I think he’s an interior designer. The place looked like a 5 star hotel. I would definitely recommend the place to anyone who wants to get away from city and wants to experience some quiet and alone time. I needed the time to meditate and connect to myself and it was just what I needed. I would definitely come back.

Cozy, character-filled house combines completely new kitchen and baths with old-fashioned charm. In a lovely, peaceful, historic village. Fireplace, some antique furnishings, some Art Nouveau decor, equipped kitchen. Private back yard. Short walk to village square's farmers' market and restaurants. Close to outdoor recreation: hiking trails, rivers, lakes, ski areas, orchards, farmsteads, Hudson valley attractions and historic sites. Town of Hudson's Amtrak station is a 20-minute drive away.
First floor: Living room, dining room, kitchen, bedroom, 3/4 bath. Second floor: 2 bedrooms, a full bath. Back yard: deck with table & chairs, raspberries, currants, flower beds. Yard is not fenced, but screened with hedges.
The house is in a quiet neighborhood, surrounded by more green, open space than many others in the village, as there's a little park directly across the street. The village center is an easy walk from the house and has 4 restaurants: the excellent "Flammerie," serving dinner only; "Broad Street Bagels," serving breakfast and lunch; "Dyad," a wine bar serving lunch and dinner; and the newly-opened Saisonnier, featuring artisan sandwiches, specialty cheeses, charcuterie, and craft beers, wines and ciders. Kinderhook is home of the Old School Art Gallery, which has gained an international reputation, and Martin Van Buren National Historic site, which includes woodland walking trails. The town of Hudson's many unique stores, restaurants, and events is a 20-minute drive away.
  • We had a lovely stay at this charming and quirky house in Kinderhook. The location can't be beat, within walking distance to the village and right across the street from what will soon be a fantastic, refurbished trail. There are plenty of local activities and it was great to come back to an updated, welcoming house. Great Hudson Valley find!

  • We abslutely loved the old charm and decoration of the house and the newly renovated bathrooms and kitchen. There are nooks and crannies everywhere with plenty of sconces and electrical outlets. A perfect place for those who appreciate an antique house with modern amenities, in the delightful village setting of Kinderhook close to the great orchards of Samascots and Golden Harvest.

  • This charming house in Kinderhook is a fantastic place to stay! The beds are comfortable, the showers are great, and the kitchen is fantastic! This historic house has been renovated beautifully - staying here feels like stepping back in time. Barbara and William communicate well and quickly! Kinderhook is delightful, with charming cafes and a touch of history, and it is an easy drive to Chatham (including the Mac-Haydn Theatre) and Valatie. This was my second stay at this home and I would book again in heartbeat!

    Lori Brandt2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Great place in Kinderhook... a short walk to the center of the little town and also right near the Samascot orchard. Beautiful old house with a private, quiet and green back yard.

    Evan2019-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very quirky, very cool place in a great location. We liked it so much we're coming back in August. Barbara is great (though we haven't actually met her). Responses to request\inquiries were quick. She always added some personal sentiment to her messages which made it seem like something more than just contacting an Airbnb host.

    William2019-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! This house is a gem! Very clean, with lovely decor that includes some fun & unique touches, and comfortable furnishings. Cozy and relaxing. The backyard is a green oasis. I also enjoyed exploring the super-charming village, with its restaurants and historic sites only a short walk from the house. I will definitely be coming back to stay in this relaxing area and sweet house! Highly recommend this stay.

  • Debra's house was absolutely lovely. It was a very welcoming and cozy space. The house was sparkling clean and had everything we could have needed. Debra was a fantastic host and very accommodating. When we weren't relaxing by the fire, we enjoyed walking our dogs on a trail behind the house and visiting the local brewery in town. It was the perfect relaxing getaway!

  • Debra is the perfect hostess. Her thoughtful touches just add to the charm of her cozy and charming home. A sweet place to stay!

  • Debra greeted us and made us feel right at home. The house was impeccably clean. We enjoyed taking our dog into the snow-covered back yard then coming in and sitting by the stove. The internet worked great, and we loved using the Roku with lots of channels. It was a memorable trip!

  • Debra is a superbly super host! The hideaway is charming, clean, perfectly furnished and nicely situated in a lovely wooded spot that’s a convenient distance from town (on foot or otherwise) and many other cool spots by car. I look forward to returning!

  • We loved the house, and hope to come back in the warmer months to use the back porch.

    Patrice2019-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • Debra made us feel extremely welcome. Her home is lovely and perfectly appointed, in a beautiful secluded space where you can be close to nature. Debra was an effective communicator. She left small treats for us, she is both a gracious and thoughtful host!

    Julie2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Debra's home is truly an oasis. It was so relaxing and the perfect getaway from the city. I hadn't expected the lovely downtown of Kinderhook to be as close as it was, and the farmer's market was amazing! It was the perfect home base for us to explore the area, and to come home at night for a fire and a delicious meal, from all local ingredients. Debra has really put every effort into making the space welcoming, and we can't recommend it enough.

Kinderhaus Folk Art Museum, an extremely sweet and crooked house from 1770 full of art and antiques, is located in the historical village of Kinderhook, just a few minutes’ walk from several cafés, excellent restaurants, antique shops, library, bank, and Jack Shainman’s gallery, “The School”. It’s also just a short drive from marvelous Hudson and all of it’s antique stores and galleries, many local organic farms and farm shops, as well as the Shaker Museum and Shaker Village.
  • Jenny's home was a veritable museum filled with her artwork and an impressive collection of antiques, curios, books on folk art, and vinyl records. Each lovingly decorated room was a joy to explore. Jenny was a fantastic host whose communication was prompt and seamless. She is also an old friend of Tasha Tudor and an artist in her own right with a fascinating story. I highly recommend her place to folk art lovers and anyone traveling the area (Kinderhook was in itself a charming town, The School is not to be missed!). Oh, and she found & returned the entirety of my travel money that I'd left behind by accident. I really can't thank her enough.

    Sung2019-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • I could spend hours looking at the art and objects in this beautiful little Kinderhook home. It was a lovely stay in a peaceful neighborhood, and convenient to Hudson.

    Tessa2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing house! The folk art is wonderful, beautifully displayed and layered to make the home feel quirky, cozy, and fascinating. The garden is so inviting, and it's only a block walk into the center of Kinderhook. Jenny left a thoughtful chocolate on the nightstand and the directions for everything were easy, clear, and no-fuss. A delightful stay!

    Meredith2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Jenny’s place is a dream come true, such a beautiful home nestled into the lovely town of Kinderhook. We had such a great stay, her communication was great and we had no issues at all. Thank you Jenny, I look forward to returning one day!

    Josie2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great location. Walked to breakfast and dinner. Jenny provided much appreciated Pellegrino and chocolate on arrival.

    Larry2019-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Had a wonderful stay at Jenny's lovely home. The space is beautiful and thoughtfully decorated. I couldn't stop staring at her incredible collection of folk art! Her house is old but with modern amenities, so you still get that traditional country home feeling with updated appliances, the best of both worlds really. It's in a great location with a farmers market, restaurants, antique shops and The School gallery all within walking distance. We didn't get to meet Jenny in person but she was very responsive and kind.

    Mia2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at Jenny’s house, it is full of surprises and interesting antiques and art work. The communication was great and Jenny is very nice and helpful. Highly recommended!

  • Jenny's home is a true gem! The location is wonderful: Kinderhook is a great town with the cutest houses and its close to Hudson and other nice towns. Jenny is an artist with a great eye for decor! The home, as well as its garden, is so lovely. We learned so much about folk art and enjoyed seeing the pieces on display through out the house, especially the Howard Finster piece. So much character! I cannot recommend the Folk Art Museum enough!

Charming home at the end of a country road on the Kinderhook Creek surrounded by fields and woods with hiking/biking trails and a very private swimming hole! HVAC and a cozy fireplace make this a comfortable year-round getaway and a wonderful place to enjoy the fall colors! Within easy drive of endless things to do and places to explore such as the quaint town of Chatham (5 min), Tanglewood (35 min), antiquing in Hudson (20 min) and good skiing too (Catamount 30 min, Butternut 45 min)!
This mid-century home in Chatham features wonderful period details such as a sunken living room built around a massive stone fireplace (yes, it works!), central HVAC, built-in vacuum, state-of-the (then) art St. Charles kitchen, huge stone patio with built-in outdoor kitchen, and tiered garden behind the house. Built by a young Italian immigrant-turned-U.S. Army lieutenant for his beloved young wife after his return from WWII, the home and its details were planned down to the last minutiae by the young officer as a way to keep up his spirit and remind him of home while fighting his way foxhole-to-foxhole during the fierce and bloody Italian Campaign. While sadly, some of these features such as the built-in vacuum and built-in blender in the kitchen are obsolete and non-functioning, and much of the outdoor stonework has settled over time, it is still fun to find details that attest to the home as the manifestation of the American Dream by that hopeful and war-weary young soldier (check out the brass outlet in the middle of the stone floor of the living room so there could be a lamp in the middle of the room without the need for an unsightly extension cord). While the builder and his lovely wife never had children and therefor no need for a second bedroom, I renovated the home to create a second bedroom out of the once-even-more-grand living room for my two daughters.
They don't call the area Chatham Center for nothing - it is close to all the major attractions in the area. Five minutes from the charming town of Chatham with great shops and eateries. 20 minutes from the excellent antiquing center, Hudson New York. 35 minutes from the quaint towns of Western Massachusetts such as Great Barrington, West Stockbridge and Lenox. For the more adventurous, Saratoga Springs and its famous race track are an hour’s drive away. Nearby skiing includes Catamount (35 minutes), Jiminy Peak (45 min) and Butternut (45 min). Cultural Activities Particularly during the summer, the area is teaming with cultural attractions. Most famously, the Tanglewood Music Center is a scenic 35 minute drive. The Egg Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Albany is only 30 minutes away. Other nearby cultural destinations include Shakespeare & Company (40 min), Norman Rockwell Museum (40 min), New York State Museum (30 min) and many more. Historic Sites History comes alive at two nearby museums depicting 18th and 19th centuries. Old Austerlitz is a living museum of 19th Century houses and barns. Hancock Shaker Village, a restored and walkable 19th century village featuring the famous Round Stone Barn (30 min). For the Kids An easy 35 minute drive away, Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield, MA is a wonderful, kid-friendly, hand-on art, history and natural science museum.
  • Great place and location. The host responds quickly and knows the area well. We will return (again)!

  • We had a lovely time over a snowy weekend. Our dog loved the walks around the property and the house, with its many windows and fireplace was a perfect way to stay in and watch the snow fall.

  • Great house and perfect location!!

    Laura2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Brewster’s home is just as described - the fireplace is great in the Fall and warms the whole house. The master bedroom and bath were large and bright and the kitchen had a lot of character with plenty of room and all of the necessities to cook! The trails outside of the house were amazing and we loved seeing the Fall foliage! Our dog was happy to have so much room to run and was worn out every day!

    Catherine2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Please see my review from October 2018. We loved it so much we went back! The only thing I can possibly say that is negative is don't leave anything behind. Last year we confirmed that the computer charger and jeans we had forgotten were found by Brewster's helper, but we never received the promised package!

    Suzy2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • This was a perfect retreat for our family (husband and 2 teenagers), before school starts next week. We enjoyed everything about Brewster's place... spent the days keeping active exploring nearby parks, trails and towns. We wound down at night playing cards and games. The night sky from there was amazing. I think we saw the Milky Way! The location is central to multiple quaint areas with restaurants and events. If you are looking for a spot to comfortably wind down, unplug and connect with mother nature, this is it!

    Vicki2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful place with lots of history and a personal touch. The setting is idyllic, quiet, and private. Brewster was very responsive and helpful in all communications and left a great list of local recommendations. We can’t wait to come back!

    Jennifer2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovely grounds. There are a couple of places to access the creek, which has both shallow parts for young kids to splash in and deeper areas to do some actual swimming. The house has plenty of charm and the AC kept it perfectly cool even on blazing hot days. It's clean, quiet and comfy, with a firepit and a small BBQ. Good place to wander and think.

  • This is a clean, spacious, nicely-located, and adequately stocked home. It's a very comfortable space with gorgeous views and lots of outdoor space. There is plenty of room for both public and private time. Note that of the five bedrooms, one is very tiny and is filled with a single bed; another is really meant for 5 kids. So this would be an ideal setting for 6 adults and 6 kids. A few days before we checked in we received a 7-page contract that had to be digitally signed in order to complete the booking. While there's nothing egregious about it, if you don't get it immediately after your confirmation I would suggest you ask for it.

  • We will continue to come back to this lovely lake house. Very relaxing and plenty to keep the kids amused. There was a mishap beyond anyone’s control (fridge stopped working while we were there) and Wendy & Steve worked diligently to make things right for us ASAP. Our second stay of hopefully many!

  • This was the perfect spot for our family!! Very close to our family who lives nearby, and great for the kids (ages 3 and up) to play. The house was comfortable and had everything we could need, and the outside and yard was wonderful as well. The price was the same as the generic hotel (in East Greenbush) where we usually stay, and saved us an hour total in the car each day. We will definitely book this property for future trips.

Jenny's Folk Art Museum is a house from 1770, located in the historical district of Kinderhook Village, just a twenty minute drive north of Hudson. The house retains much character from a bygone era, with wide wooden floorboards, bumpy horsehair and plaster walls, and wavy glass window panes, and is crooked and "wabi sabi" as it can be. Jenny, an artist and avid collector herself, has filled the house with folk art, "outsider art", antique quilts, extraordinary art books, and her own creations.
Despite all the rustic charm of the place, Jenny's Folk Art Museum is well equipped with all the necessary modern amenities. Also, the post office, cafés, restaurants, bank, library, and farmer's market are all just a two or three minutes' walk away. In the master bedroom suite there is one queen-sized bed, a private bathroom, and a sweet little gas stove to keep things toasty. There is also a single bed available in "Gustav's Room", as well a double bed in Jenny's studio. All of the beds are complete with goose down comforters, wool blankets, quilts, and organic linens, as well as merino wool mattress covers. (The towels, bath mats, etc. are also organic, whenever possible, since Jenny lived on an organic farm in Norway for 23 years, and is devoted to all things sustainable and ecological! There are also wool slippers and bathrobes for guests.) The water in the showers is delightfully hot, and the water pressure is excellent. The house is three stories, and has many peculiar and narrow staircases.... There are also two gas fireplaces, and a kitchen overflowing with enough cookware to roast a Thanksgiving turkey and bake a few pies: perfect for any traveling chefs out there! The cabinets are not only stocked with organic coffee, tea, olive oil, apple cider vinegar, sea salt, pepper, herbs and spices (which guests may help themselves to), but also other organic foodstuffs; I only ask for a voluntary contribution to be placed in the donation jar on the kitchen counter in exchange for the consumption of such. Also: there is a reverse osmosis water filter jug in the cabinet to the right of the stove. (Because of Jenny's health concerns there is no microwave in the house, but instead a state-of-the-art toaster oven!) For a small fee guests may use the washer and dryer.... But the use of the clothesline and clothes pins are free!
Kinderhook has several restaurants and cafés in walking distance of the house, as well as many nearby organic and biodynamic farms and farm stands. Every Saturday, during the warmer months, there is a farmer's market in the town square. In addition there are several historical sites and buildings that are open to the public, and Jack Shainman's gallery "The School" has exhibitions throughout the year. Hudson, with its marvelous antique shops and restaurants, is only a twenty minute drive (or bus ride) away. Many other charming villages, such as Chatham and Valatie, are also just a few miles away.
  • We loved staying here! It was so clean, and the kitchen was fun to cook in. The bed was sooo comfortable and having access to three fireplaces was awesome. There’s little touches like a record player and an essential oil diffuser which made the stay extra fun. We want to definitely stay here again. Also, Jenny was such a warm and receiving host!

    Kate2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Jenny's home is lovely and clean. The two fireplaces are an amazing touch.

    Alex2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect, charming getaway spot with all the amenities of home. Lots of character and cozy nooks, particularly upstairs. Would love to stay again!

    Lauren2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • It was a truly lovely home for our annual trip, a cute but wonderfully artsy house in Catskills close to beautiful trails! Jenny also communicated everything well in advance and super easy check-in process, 100% would recommend.

    Ophelia2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Super cozy and charming house, with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The bed I sept in (downstairs bedroom) is the most comfortable ever! I didn't want to leave! The house has a lot of beautiful and charming objects, it is quite a collection, and rather chock full of stuff, but set up in a very welcoming way.

    Sara2019-12-07T00:00:00Z
  • This is one of the coolest and most unique homes I've stayed at. The place has so much character and is so well designed. It was super clean and comfortable. The kitchen and grill were perfect for all the cooking we wanted to do. All of the fireplaces made for an incredibly cozy and relaxing time. The surround area is equally as beautiful and cool as the house. We would absolutely stay here again.

    John2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • True to its name, Jenny's Folk Art Museums is filled with artfully arranged historical and handmade pieces. There was so much to explore. We appreciated the extra touches, like the cozy wool slippers, beautiful quilts and big cozy duvets. We enjoyed eating at the big harvest table in the dining room and congregating in the living room with the gas fireplace late into the night. Kinderhook itself is adorable, with big beautiful old homes, an art museum and a sweet little coffee shop that makes a great bagle for the drive home!

    Carol2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Three of us stayed at Jenny's extraordinarily charming and inspiring house in Kinderhook, often wandering from room to room snapping pictures on our phones to remind us of her creative genius. The house is somehow filled with precious items and yet not at all cluttered, cozy and comfortably yet still airy and light. Kinderhook, too, was a revelation. I didn't know that part of the world and was really taken with it. There was much to do and see -- prowl antique and junk stores in Hudson, walk out to eat in K'hook, gawk at the wonderful old houses. Jenny, we aspire to come back!

  • The home was pristine, absolutely beautiful inside and in a perfect quiet neighborhood. This city-dweller loved looking up at the stars! The home is spacious with beautiful touches and Mary is a wonderful host!

  • Mary's place is beautifully designed and sparkling clean. The rooms are airy, the beds are comfortable, and there are welcoming touches everywhere. The location is also terrific: it's a short, pleasant walk to downtown Kinderhook, and a number of wonderful small towns are less than an hour away (we visited Hudson, Red Hook, Rhinebeck, and Millbrook on the New York side, and Lenox and Stockbridge on the Massachusetts side). Mary is responsive and lovely to deal with. Highly recommend.

  • Solomon's accomodation is an authentic 18th c house: it is furnished with taste, according to the house style. And shelves are full of good books. And it is a much better than expected on behalf of the online photos: the bedroom is huge and comfortable, and so is the modern bathroom. Everything went well even with a last minute reservation, Solomon was very responsive and helpful. And clearly dedicated to his hosts. Thank you so much!

    Jean2016-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Solomon's home is a lovely example of the historic Dutch properties that dotted the Hudson Valley decades ago; preservation fans seek this home out! Solomon was kind and accommodating and let me hang out with his friendly outdoor cat (a perk for pet-less travelers); would absolutely stay again!

    Paige2016-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • beautiful, clean, peaceful room in a gorgeous house!

    Mary2016-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • I made a last minute same day reservation with Solomon. He responded immediately and made it very easy for me to check right in. The room is spacious and tastefully decorated and has beautiful wide plank floors. The bed is incredibly comfortable. And the large bathroom has a bidet! He is a great host, his house is beautiful and the surrounding grounds are gorgeous. I'd love to go back.

    Gabriel2016-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • Solomon's place was amazing! My bf and I would definitely love to stay there again if our plans take us out there in the future. Solomon was very communicative but he gave us the freedom to use the kitchen & the BBQ on the patio (cannot tell you how grateful we were to be able to BBQ every day and enjoy the patio for breakfast, lunch, and dinner) and also to let our dog hang out with us on his property and run her around. He also gave us local recommendations on hiking and art - there are so many fantastic outdoors adventures in Valatie! I even bought some fresh corn from the neighbors across the street. In summary, his house is amazing - very peaceful and relaxing - and the entire town is a sweet little dreamy adventure. Thanks for having us!

    Elisabeth2016-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at Solomon's house! It's a beautiful spot and he made us feel perfectly at home, gave great advice about local restaurants and hiking and swimming spots, and was generous and solicitous throughout without cramping our style.

    Portia2016-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • Host was very accommodating, I arrived late, celebrating a win, and he was a dear getting us to the right farmhouse in the dark. I loved the feel and size of the home and pops of color that work great. The room was large enough to do yoga. The property is lovely. I plan to come back to the area, I'd stay here vs beacon, Hudson for the quiet.

    Katie2016-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Solomons house and would definitely come back, but next time with a little bit more time. Solomon was very helpful and the room is very beautiful and clean. Thank you and hope to come back again!

  • This was my first Air bnb stay and it definitely won't be my last! Mary's house is located in a quiet neighborhood next to an orchard. The house itself was super clean and had ample room for myself, my husband and our 4 small children. The backyard was completely fenced in with a deck and grill. The beds were comfy and the washer/dryer were handy. The kitchen was big and fully stocked with everything we could possibly need. It was warm when we visited and the A/C was amazing! Mary had special touches around the house that made our stay even better. There were toys, books, musical toys that my kids loved. She was easy to contact and quick to reply. She stopped by and my husband talked to her and got lots of good information about the village (things to do/try) and tips on our travel back to the airport in NYC. We would definitely stay here again in the future.

  • Mary’s lovely home is comfortable, clean, and well appointed. It is a lovely place from which to explore the Hudson Valley area. My husband, young daughter, and friends had a wonderful stay. We would highly recommend Mary’s place!

  • Christopher and Jessica’s home is beautiful, clean and cozy - I can’t recommend it enough! It feels brand new, and they have put so much thought into making it comfortable for their guests, down to the last detail. We felt so welcome, and appreciated the timely and helpful communication throughout. The house is in a great location - about a 15 minute drive from Hudson, and only a few minutes away from local restaurants and a grocery store. Overall, this was one of the best Airbnb experiences I’ve ever had. I can’t wait to be back!

    Maya2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay! Christopher and Jessica are fabulous, considerate hosts and their home is so beautiful and comfortable. It's an old house with an efficient layout (the room with the daybed was one of my favorite spaces to think and plan), and modern appliances. We absolutely would return!

    Angela2020-01-02T00:00:00Z

  • The Sweet House is exactly that...sweet. The moment my friends and I walked in the door, we felt right at home. It was thoughtfully decorated and full of charm. I couldn’t have asked for more. Perfect place to getaway to. One weekend just wasn’t enough.

    Danielle2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • We just returned to the Sweet House for a summer vacation. We had already been there once this spring and enjoyed it immensely. While staying in Kinderhook, I had a chance to visit a horse rescue and go riding with friends. My husband and I also hiked down the trail to Bash Bish Falls (from the MA side) and explored the Catskill Mountains. On warm summer evenings, we used the fire pit and sat around the fire under the stars with friends. The house provides the perfect retreat. I recommend it highly as a place to unwind and relax!

    Amy2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • You will not be disappointed staying at the Sweet House. 🙌🙌🙌

  • This is a beautiful space with a lot of character. The master suite is amazing and the bed is super comfortable. My group and I had a very fun time staying here. The cleanup expectations on house rules are a little much in light of paying a big cleaning fee so be sure to allow yourself some extra time upon checkout.

    Jamie2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
