Kythira Holiday Rentals

Just booked in Kythira

Located in the Byzantine village of Mylopotamos on the unspoiled island of Kythira, the house offers a perfect retreat for reflection and rejuvenation and a perfect base for discovering the island’s many splendors.
Organized around two courtyards, planted with trees, herbs, and flowers, the centuries-old house includes a large living space with a four meters vaulted ceiling, 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 3 separate toilets, an outside shower. The large outdoor space includes areas for entertaining and relaxing, including a roof terrace with sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. Renovated with taste, the house is furnished with a unique assortment of antique furniture and traditional art. Details: •2 bedrooms with double beds. •3 bedrooms with 2 single beds (which can be merged to create double beds). •2 bathrooms with a shower. •1 bathroom with a bathtub. •Fully equipped kitchen with electric stove, washing machine, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, food processor and a large set of plates, dishes and silverware. •Dining tables in each courtyard and in the living space. •Beautiful diwan that can seat up to 20 persons on the rooftop. •Shaded pergola on the rooftop, ideal for afternoon relaxation. •A full cleaning is offered every week. More frequent cleaning service is available on demand at reasonable cost. If you are looking for a larger place, it is also possible to rent the house with 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. Don't hesitate to contact me for more details. The village of Mylopotamos is located in the center of the island, near the western coast, and offers many activities. The village is famous for its stunning waterfalls that offer beautiful hikes and crystal clear fresh water pools. It also hosts a Venetian castle and a troglodyte church. The village beach, Limnionas, is a 10 minutes drive away. In a beautiful cove, surrounded by rocky bluffs, you will find a charming traditional cantina that serves mezethes and drinks, as well as the island’s only diving center, where you can learn to dive in the sparkling Mediterranean. In the village square, a short stroll from the house, you can sit under the centennial sycamore trees. There you’ll find two of the island’s best restaurants, serving traditional and reinterpreted Greek specialties. You can also enjoy an espresso, cocktail or snack at a café by the river bank. All are offering internet to their customers. For your convenience, there is a small shop in the village where you can find necessaries, as well as local fruits, vegetables and eggs. Milopotamos is also home to several boutiques, where you can find jewelry, local art, and summer fashions, including the perfect hat for the beach. And, when, you will eventually feel like leaving the village, its location is ideal for visiting Kythira and discover its many beaches and other attractions. Other Things to Note Kythira is beautiful not only in the summertime, but year-round. Come in the autumn, when the light is spectacular, the beaches are empty, and the sea is still warm. Join in the olive picking, go for long walks in the hills, or just doze on a hammock with the gentle sun on your face. Or come in the spring, when the island is green and lush and blanketed with wildflowers of every color imaginable, when streams and waterfalls are gushing, and people are feeling festive for apokria (Carnival) and Easter celebrations. The sea is swimmable year-round (though quite brisk from December until May), and the weather is mild -- sometimes rainy, sometimes sunny, never very cold. Because Kythira is a relatively large island, you'll need to rent a car -- or drive down through the Peloponnesus and take the ferry across the strait from Neapoli to Kythira. Feel free to write me for more information about how to get to and get around the island. Prices vary depending of the season and the number of rooms you wish to use. Get in touch with me if you're interested. I can offer deep discounts for off-season visits, especially long-term stays.
  • Magical house, enchanting village, wonderful island. Beautiful cushions and interesting artefacts are everywhere in this quirky, comfortable house. Get up to the terrace and watch out for the wonderful sunsets, sun and moon rises.

  • We had a wonderful stay in this house on Kythira. The house is traditional and full of character and in a lovely location in Milopotamos. The house is near the peaceful and shady waterfalls and watermills of Milopotamos and close to the old Byzantine village of Kato Chora. There is a good and friendly restaurant in the village. The house has a great communal kitchen and seating room with bedrooms around a central courtyard which is perfect for eating outside. The house is clean and comfortable with a well equipped kitchen. We were met at the airport by a local resident who showed us to the house and who was a wealth of information about the island.

  • Reading all the other reviews by other guests, I would ditto and triple ditto much of what they said, from meeting the local herbalist (who mixed me some special tea when I caught a cold and the next day I was feeling much (URL HIDDEN) Maria, the craftswoman, to Katerina, the lady who owns the shop with two manikins in front that look odd but her shop has amazing clothing, hats, and jewelry...and the Platano Taverna--great food on a patio with beautiful trees to sit under and solid wifi! There is no wifi at the house which for us was perfect! If you need wifi, the Platano Taverna is a 2 minute walk from the house. The trail to the Nerida Waterfall is 2 steps from the house and I highly highly recommend the 2.6 km circular hike of the watermills (you can see the map of that hike next to the Platano Taverna with a Sign describing the whole area. That hike was miraculous and medieval with new discoveries at every turn. This village is a wonderful place to stay! Thank you Jean Marie for everything!

  • Jean Marie was an amazing host, his friendliness made our stay very enjoyable. The house is super beautiful and the island is incredible. We will be back (we hope!)

    lichen2017-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic medieval house, eclectic decoration. Arrangements were easy, Jean Marie is very responsive and accurate. The house is in walking distance from the Milopotamos waterfalls, one of the best attractions on the island. Jean Marie's notes for restaurants, beaches etc. were more than welcome. Extra bonus, a big collection of books and guides about Kythira.

  • We enjoyed a lot staying in this beautiful house and the small village of Milopotamos. People are very kind and make you feel at ease immediatly. Jean Marie's tips for the whole island are very accurate and helpful. It was interesting to read in the numerous books you can find in the living room about the history of the island and all greece. Milopotamos is the perfect starting point for walks and hikes (you can reach beautiful historical sites, canyons, caves, hidden bays). Kythira in off-season is unique and highly recommended, the perfect match if you want to slow down.

  • Jean Marie, the house, the island, the people, the beaches, - the beauty of it all is impossible to describe in words. The house is indeed magical, set in a lovely town where, especially once you mention Jean Marie's name, you are treated like an old friend. We managed to see a lot of the island in one week - there are many beaches, lots of history, hiking, and delicious food. It was a unique experience - the structure of the old house, the hospitality of the host, the decor from Jean Marie's trips around the world -all came together to provide us with an incredibly relaxing and rewarding week we will never forget. If you go, you must go to see Sarah - the town herbalist, Maria who sells beautiful jewelry, Karyn who owns a shop filled with gorgeous clothes, and Christos for books and Cosmos who gave us bags full of fruit. These are just some of the lovely people we saw each day. We LOVED our stay. Thank you Jean Marie!

  • This place is a dream, a little, lovely slice of the past. We were charmed by the space and the way it has been maintained. We spent a lot of time in the kitchen and were continuously impressed with how well equipped it was. The bedrooms were comfortable and the courtyard was pleasant. Milopotamos is a lovely little village, and of course i join the choir praising the local taverna. Finally our many thanks to Jean Marie who was a wonderful host. He was responsive and genuinely a pleasure to deal with from the begining of the process, till the end.

  • This is not the cheapest place you'll find on Airbnb, but as far as I can tell it's one of the loveliest. The house is stylishly designed and everything about it is of high quality. Its location is superb in a wonderful little village. There's a little bar next door that plays great music, but if you don't want to hear it, the doors and windows are sound proof. The air-conditioning is a boon on hot days. Alexandra is a helpful and responsive host.

    Peaceful Hilltop House
    2 reviews
An elegant detached house that offers tranquility and privacy, with a large traditional stone-built arch and fireplace, large high wooden ceilings bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and patio. The house can accommodate up to 5 people.
The old arch, more than 100 years old, was restored for the first time about 25 years ago, while a new restoration has given it’s present view a few years ago. Extremely cool in summer, with an amazing floor made by the traditional technique of cement. The bedroom is large, extremely bright and spacious, with one king size and one single bed. Inside the arch, there is the possibility of accommodating two more people thanks to a sofa - bed. The stone fireplace, gives also an excellent traditional touch to the space. From the kitchen’s door you reach the patio where you can enjoy breakfast.
The house is located in a traditional small village called “Logothetianika”, near village “Potamos”. Park your vehicle at the small square of the village and walk downhill the narrow alley. After 50 meters you reach a nice neighborhood with traditional restored houses. A quiet place that offers the opportunity to enjoy holidays in Kythira, as your "base" for daily excursions to the beautiful beaches, stunning monasteries and villages with unique architecture and cultural heritage. An ideal choice for families with children (which can play safely in the neighborhood) and couples or groups of friends who want privacy. Very close to “Logothetianika” (3-4 minutes by car) is one of the largest villages of Kythera, “Potamos”, a meeting point for the whole island. Every Sunday morning “Potamos” attracts hundrends of visitors to it’s traditional bazaar, where you can find local fruits and vegetables among other handmade goods. Also every Friday evening “Potamos” is the place to be, if you want to meet Kithira’s folklore, traditional dances and food. In “Potamos” you can find a bank branch, restaurants, mini markets, shops and “Astikon”, a meeting place for all ages, from morning until late at night, with handmade lemonade and live music.
  • After arriving at the estate we were pleasantly suprised to see how clean and spacious it was. Four to five people can comfortably fit in there. Everything was neatly organised and well prepared to welcome any guest (it was very nicely decorated as well). All the amenities provided were also sufficient. The place was not too cold or too hot, heating the water only took a few minutes and the towels, sheets etc were really clean as well. The little backyard and rooftop are nice to spend your mornings and evenings with a cup of coffee. The whole area was very quiet and sleeping there at any given time was not in the least difficult. In conclusion, this place is definitely recommended.

In the beautiful island of Kythira (Cerigo), in the medieval traditional village of Pitsinades lies the summer house to rent “Pulani”. The house is a detached home with a big yard, which includes bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathroom.
The house was build about 100 years ago and was renovated in 2007 to its current form. It was originally used as a residence as well as a winepress. In the living room one can still see the "pulani", the hole where the stum was poured from the "lanos", the space where the grapes were pressed. It is situated at the east side of the village near the churches of Panagia Tsigkouriotissa and Saint Athanasios. • Bedroom The bedroom is the biggest room of the house. It's made of stone according to traditional architecture and it is a dome (white stone arch) with a skylight to allow natural light to enter the room. The room has a double bed and a trifoliate closet. There is also a single sofa-bed for the accommodation of a fifth guest. • Living room The living room was the winepress in the original use of the house. In its original arrangement the room contained a "lano" (winepress) which was defined by a dwarf wall of about 1 meter at the right side of the room. In the center of the room you can still see the "pulani". The room in made of stone. The room is air-conditioned and contains one double sofa-bed while a TV-set and a small book collection are available. • Kitchen The kitchen is the most recent addition to the house. It was built approximately 10 years ago and has a wooden roof with tiles. The kitchen is fully equipped with kitchenware and appliances. • Yard The yard is spacious, partially covered by a trellis with creeper plants which cast their shadow so as to keep it cool during the day. • In general The house also contains a washing machine as well as an iron with an iron board. For guests with car, a parking space has been reserved.
  • Harris and his parents were exceptional hosts. They were very kind, attentive, and helpful. The home is very comfortable and you can't ask for a better location. Pitsinades is in one of the most beautiful and secluded areas of the island. A medieval village of ruins, olive groves, goats, flowers, and breezes from the shore.

  • Harris was easily accessible via phone contact and his parents live in the same neighbourhood, where the house is located.Harris parents were very descret and polite and easy to get hold of when needed. They were very respectful of our privacy. This was mostly appreciated. The house is one the most pretty and fully equipped properties we have stayed through Airbnb. I have nothing negative to say.We had a great and relaxing stay in Harris' house. You do require your own car to get to Aroniadika village. The village is quiet and very safe. There is a big supermarket, a grill tavern and a a local cafe approx 10-15min away by foot or a fews minutes away by car. We higly recommend Harris' cute place for a re;axing holiday with your partner or small group of friends.

  • Harris and his family were very kind to us, Harris was always available to answer any question that we had. The summer house is fantastic! We will certainly come back there if we'll come to Kythera again!

  • We had an absolutely fantastic time at Harris' summer house on Kythira. The house was brilliant and the quiet rural location, with lovely views, was absolutely perfect for us tired city folk. The courtyard garden is delightful and Harris' parents could not have been nicer. The house was immaculately clean (and refreshed regularly), there is a quiet field to park in (transport is essential) and the local town of Potamos is perfect for an early morning frappe or evening drink, with a friendly Sunday market. Kythira itself is quite large and incredibly varied, with mainly Greek tourists and plenty of Gr-Ozzies! We had a perfect holiday here and the nice cool house, with good cooking facilities, really contributed to that. Thank you so much to our friendly hosts and to Harris for his good communication. Don't let the problems in Greece put you off holidaying in this wonderful country, the islands always feel beautiful, relaxed and completely safe, and the people are lovely.

  • We had a lovely time in Harry's house. This house is perfect for a family with small children like us and Pitsinades is a tiny village perfectly located in the Middle of the island. We loved our week in Kythira!!

  • Me and my family enjoyed very much our stay in Harris' Summer House in Kythira its a lovely house in a lovely little traditional village. it is a very well organized house; very clean and with a nice courtyard. we definitly recommend it.

  • An absolutey adorable house, just down the road from Aroniadika and short drive to the lively town of Potamos. We found Harris's house in Pitsinades central for what we wanted to do, especially the beaches. Pitsinades itself is a lovely little village and Harris's dad Manolis was very wecoming. I thoroughly recommend this beautiful little home.

Our house is ideal for relaxing holidays in a serene location, a perfect getaway in a small paradise. Inspired by the artists that have restored it, it is highly recommended for couples and families or friends who would like to relax, meditate or study. Due to its location it may be considered as the Explorers' easy escape to the sites and beauties of the island, ideal for challenging escapes and tracing back to the paths of history.
Our house has a long past back in history. We found it in ruins and we rebuild it following the original architectural structure in respect to the instructions of an architect who was very much acquainted with the Kytherian traditional architecture. There is a constant flow of relaxing energy and a feeling of calmness and serenity within the spaces of the house. You are very welcome to come and share this feeling!
  • Quiet. Clean. We spent 5 nights and the central location was great for touring many sites in Kythira. The two story house has separate entrances to both floors, each with kitchen and bathroom. We had some difficulty finding the house initially but the neighbours were very helpful in pointing us in the right direction.

    Sotiri2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • The house and location were great. unfortunately the parking space was very difficult to get in and out of so we parked far away in order to not damage our car.

  • Ouranias House is one of those magical places, which capture you from the first minute. The only lack was the shortage of time, since we stayed only 8 nights and would have loved staying there forever;-) You have wonderful views in the nature from all the windows of the house and especially the courtyard gives you a little oriental Marrakesch feeling. The communication with both Anta and Ourania, was a pleasure, they answered fast, were friendly and were perfect hosts. The island itself is incredibly beutiful. The house has a great position to reach many different beaches (also lots of secluded ones, in case you seek for calmness and nature) and we really hope to come back soon !!

  • The House is very nice, quiet and relaxing. We were able to spend many days, with several people or 2 people and its configuration is ideal to adapt to these changes we needed for work. Our host was very attentive to our needs and helped us with great kindness. Thank you !

Our house is close to Venetian Fortress, about 600 meters from the square of Milopotamos, close to beaches Limiona and Reed, the Saint Sophia cave in Mylopotamos watermills and waterfall Fairy. The Venus room consists of traditional arche. It is comfortable, simple, with many traditional elements, nicely decorated and cool as the building is stone. Hosted by two matrons Sissy and Vana.
Our house is located in the traditional village Mylopotamos in Kato Chora, opposite the Venetian castle. It is a stone house built in 1899 with traditional arches renovated in 2005, retaining elements of the old building. Such buildings are famous because of their architecture lies in these same arches. For rent we have two separate rooms – studio “Porfyris” and “Venus” and each of them has its own courtyard. It is fully equipped, air-conditioned, with TV, a kitchenette and private bathroom.
Our house is in Kato Chora Mylopotamos, where is the Venetian Castle. It is an old ruined Venetian small town, with many churches and with nice sea views. Here you can enjoy a beautiful sunset. Mylopotamos is a small village built on one of the most beautiful spots on the island and maintains a genuine traditional color. At Mylopotamos you will see many of the important natural attractions of Kythira as the waterfall of Neraida, the Venetian Castle, the cave of St. Sofias. The nearest beaches of Mylopotamos, Limionas and Kalami, are about 5 km., from the village.
  • We spent an amazing week at Kythera! The house of Sisi and Vana is located at a unique spot, at the medieval neighbourhood of Mylopotamos village, just ourside the venetian castle! The whole place is very calm and picturesque, like a scenery! It's only 600 metres away from the central square of the village: a very pleasant walk, especially during the sunset. The house itself is a settlement of over 100 years old, renovated with much respect to the traditional architectural details. Our studio was freshly and brightly decorated. Full of light and very cool, due to the traditional "kamara" (=reversed U) shape of the roof. Just imagine that the first 3 days of our stay, we all suffered from a short heatwave and the high temperatures of over 40-41oC..... but NOT in our studio! In our "kamara" we had a stable temperature and never needed to turn on the aircondition!!! It was very clean and our linen was impeccable. There was a beautiful yard full of trees and flowers and we enjoyed our breakfast under the rich shade of the old olive tree. Nevertheless, all this would be nothing without the warm personalities of our hostesses, Sisi and Vana, who embraced us as old friends and made our holidays unforgettable with their discreet attention and their kind advice! Thank yo(URL HIDDEN)

  • If you are looking for a nice and quiet stay Kato Chora is absolutely beautiful. I was lucky to stay there at this time of the year, the sunset at the castle (just a few steps away) was spectacular. Mylopotamos is very near, just a short and beautiful walk. Sisi and Vana are very helpful and they made me feel at home. Their houses are nicely decorated. I loved it and next time I will definitely stay longer!

  • Sisi was a fabulous host! She was super friendly and communicated well and even called us taxis and recommended places when we needed it! The place was beautiful and clean. Would definitely stay here again if I ever go back to Kythira

  • Sisi and Vana are simply amazing! They were super friendly, helpful, discrete and contributed into making our vacation truly memorable! We were always greeted with a big smile and we really can't say enough to express our gratitude towards them. They were always willing to suggest the best beaches to visit(depending on the weather), the best places to eat at and activities which the island had to offer such as hiking destinations, caves, sightseeing locations, etc. The room was very tidy, clean, beautiful - 5 star aesthetics - and though the weather was very hot, the place was always cool without needing to use the air conditioning. Their garden was beautiful and an ideal place to have our morning coffee and breakfast before leaving to explore the island. Mylopotamos, the village where the room is located, is an amazing place surrounded by beautiful landscape and history. We are already planning to go back to the island next summer and we wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else. An ideal choice for families, couples and dog owners! A HUGE thank you to Sisi and Vana from us and we hope to see you again soon!

This traditional home located in the quaint village of Milopotamos is ideal for those that want to switch off from city life. The upper level of the two storey home is available from March to end of October. The house was the home of millers who ground the various grains to flour at the watermills of Milopotamos, just 500 metres down the valley. Walks through this area are magical. The scents and colours of the valley will entrance you.
Guests will be independant, without the host imposing. The main entrance to the upstairs level opens into a quaint kitchen area which is fully functional. You will have full use of all appliances. Through the doorway, the bedroom has views of the lovely countryside. The bed is double and the cupboard is at your disposal.
Milopotamos offers a small mini market, 2 or 3 restaurants, a cafe-bar and a few arty/crafty stores. Walkers of all levels will love the area. Walks to the waterfall, the watermills, Saint Sophia's cave and the beaches Limionas and Kalami are all closeby.
  • Elizabeth and his husband are very kind hosts. She gave us a lot of informations and suggestions to arrive to Kithera (expecially about ferry boat!). The house was very tipical and lovely. Elizabeth told us the history of this ancient house, so we felt very happy to live there and to feel its particular atmosphere. The house was clean and full equipagged (we had many sheets and towels to use!) and Milopotamos is a nice small village; It's in a good position because from there you can go everywhere very fast; you can go to close beaches but there are also other things to do: going to visit churches, the cave, the castle and also walking trail to watermills or waterfall. Elizabeth has been very hospitable: she invited us for a breakfast together too! Thanks for this beautifull experience.

  • Agapi and Nico's place is located in the center of Kythira. It is a very quite, well furnished and with a breathtaking view: we have been enjoying the sunset from the terrace several times. The apartment is inside their house at the first floor. Agapi and Nico live downstairs. Pitsinades is a very small village (one of seventy on the island...) with a very charming old nucleus which is currently being restored by the owners who either have inherited some house not in a good shape or by lovers of the place who have decided to settle down there building some brand new homes. This is the case of Agapi and Nico's house. We were welcomed pretty early in the morning by Nico and Agapi: they made us feeling right away at home! They had provided some food and drinks (Agapi's homemade jam was delicious!) for us. We got a general introduction to the island, a map, a beach umbrella and a lot of great information about what to see, where to go to the beach, where to eat and much more! We had just arrived and we were already ready to explore this unique island! Off we went... Kythira is an amazing place: during our six days staying we managed to see and visit just a few historical locations, all breathtaking, eat great meals and swim in the most fantastic water surrounded by incredible landscapes. Kythira is a place for people who like to explore: we were extremely lucky because we followed the inputs of our hosts and they turned to be all absolutely reliable and spot on. We spontaneously established a kind of routine: we would get ready to go out but before doing that we would knock on Agapi and Nico's door for what we defined "the morning briefing". Our hosts were always welcoming us with warmth and maybe a coffee or some bread or some homemade honey by a friend of theirs. The same ritual was established in the late afternoon before going out for dinner. Nico booked for us not only restaurant but he also ordered what he knew was good to eat, especially fish, given the fact that in Kythira it seems like restaurants have a limited supply and once they finish what is on sale for the day then the menu card shrinks dramatically. Therefore Nico made sure we could taste the specialties he recommended by calling the owners of the restaurants making sure not only that the table was booked for pur time of choice but also that the dishes we were supposed to eat were available for us. Agapi and Nico are two exquisite persons, well educated (they are both more the fluent both inEnhlish and French) well mannered and with a great taste for what is important in life. All in all, we have had a fantastic experience and, thanks to Agapi and Nico, we have fell in love with the island and made two new friends who we will...

• Really enjoyed my stay, in Elizabeth's place. It's cute and perfect for a weeks writing time - especially with the shady tavern down the road. Milopotomous is a gorgeous little village, stay a week and you'll soon feel like a local! Elizabeth was very friendly, and responsive to my issues with the place, (dripping toilet), and invited me to a beautiful breakfast on my last day - which was a lovely way to leave!

  • A sheltered, quite, traditional and incredibly fresh in the summer apartment next to the Mylopotamos waterfall and a couple of minutes walk from the center of the village. For some reason, the quality of sleep was very good in the place, waking up in good disposition. Our host Elisabeth is a warmhearted, interesting and kind person and now our friend.

Charming and quiet accommodation in the annexe of our 200 year old traditional Kythirian home. The Manger room is part of the converted old stables where the 'local' donkey and goats were kept and still maintains the original feeding manger.
Welcome to our house in the rural village of Frilingianika. The main house features the typical 'kamara' architectural style imported on the Island by the Venetians when they ruled in 1200, and has been restored to its old splendour with particular attention given to maintain all the original plans and features, but also offering all the modern comforts. The Manger room is part of the converted old stables where the 'local' donkey and goats were kept and still maintains the original feeding manger. Although we do not provide breakfast, we do offer a complimentary selection of teas and coffees for you to enjoy !
Our village is conveniently situated in the centre of the Island, making it an ideal location for exploring, and also we are not far from some of the best beaches Kythira has to offer. The local taverna is only 5 minutes on foot, and the local supermarket, kafenion and another taverna are only a 5 minutes away by car.
  • What an amazing Airbnb experience. The photos don't do the place justice. Pauline was very welcoming, thoughtful and interesting to talk to. Her rooms have everything you need and are comparable to staying in a boutique hotel. Highly recommended!

  • This place is a true gem. I was in awe at what I found when I opened the gate of this gorgeous property. My only regret is not having more time to enjoy it. Centrally located, clean, comfy , beautifully decorated and lovely hosts. What more can one ask for?!

    Stephanie2017-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • Pauline was an excellent hostess. She drove down to meet us at the airport and showed us into our charming room. The whole house has been renovated to a very high standard and we were very comfortable there. The house is near the airport and well positioned for touring the island.

  • Perfect from start to finish. Pauline and Manolo have created something very special, integral to which is their genuine warmth and hospitality. We were made to feel so welcome and looked after. The standard of accommodation is superb with such attention to detail. In addition, the outside space is beautiful with the added bonus of a glorious roof terrace to enjoy the sun by day and the stars by night. Pauline and Manolo are fantastic hosts, with a supporting cast of amazing cats. They think of everything...we mentioned that we are vegetarian and Pauline and Manolo put together a list of recommended places to eat, and even when there was a potential threat of some rain, Pauline appeared with an umbrella. We could not recommend the whole experience highly enough.

  • If you want to explore the island here is the best located accommodation you could wish for. Ensure to hire a moped or car in advance. Pauline was such a great host and even got invited to a bbq at hers which was lovely. The place is stunning and has everything you need. If you have to use Wi-Fi it works perfectly well and if you want to cook the kitchen is fantastic. Kythira: a great island for those who don't mind exploring to find what they want. Ensure to walk to the green pool by liminous as this is an amazing experience. Kalami and kaladi are definitely the best beaches for us. The cave at ag. Sofia was great as well so don't miss That! The only thing we didn't enjoy was the area of ag.peligia which we felt didn't suit the vibe of the rest of the island. Recommend two weeks to really explore the island

    Billy2017-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • The house is beautiful, made with love and "meraki" as the Greeks say. The location is ideal, as it is in the center of the island and you can visit amazing places easier. Pauline and Manolo are lovely people who will help you with anything you may need and will make you feel at home. Definitely staying again!

    Maria2016-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • many thanks to Pauline and Manolo for making our 2 night stay so comfortable. The room and its facilities was perfect for 3 people and they were perfect hosts and provided everything we needed. Although Frilingianika is inland and not near any particular beach or point of interest, it is centrally located and so everywhere is accessible with a car. We can wholeheartedly recommend a stay here if you visit Kythera.

    Isabel2016-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Pauline and Manolo could not have been more welcoming and friendly. Their beautiful Venetian home is perfectly situated in the central part of the island, making it easy to discover in its entirety. The manger room has been carefully and tastefully brought back to life as a guest suite and makes for a perfect place to stay.

  • Nice place close to Potamos Sq. A minute walk from great food. Visit Pie bar/club, Astikon or several other nice watering holes. Nikos' place has a washing machine which is a huge benefit. Minutes away from Lykodimos Beach. Make sure to bring some wine and cheese and sit and watch the sunset there before returning to Potamos. Nikos' mom was kind enough to give me a full Kilo of fresh plums from the trees in her yard. Nikos was a great and attentive host. You will enjoy your time in Potamos. Don't forget to stay there on Friday night. The weekly town dance party is held in the square. Wonderful time watching everyone: grandparents, parents, neighbors, friends, brothers, sister and little kids spending hours dancing to live traditional Greek music. What a place to stay.

The house was really convenient, clean and full equipted and the neighbourhood more than guiet. Nikos was very friendly, helpfull and comunicative and he was there for everything we needed. • Great host, responded immediately at every request and was very attentive to our every need. The place is in a great location, near all the tavernas, bars and cafeterias of Potamos village but not so close you can hear the noise. There's a washing machine, which is really convenient. The spiral staircase leading to the top floor is a little narrow, but really sturdy. Great value for money. Good choice for couples.

  • The apartment was an authentic surprise in the center of Mitata which is itself in the center of the Island. If you are searching for a quite place to stay in a nice town and you don't mind being far away from the sea because you want the explore the island, this is an ideal place to stay. You can go where ever you want on the coast in less than 40 minutes. Rooms in the apartments were large and fresh even without air conditioning. The kitchen has also a microwave and a dishwasher that can be a good value if you are planning to cook by yourself during your stay. Some issues we had reveal that the house would require a bit more maintenance, like missing hot water in one of the bathrooms and dishwasher not working properly at the beginning. Also the drain of the bathroom was somehow obstructed thus causing some bad smells. None of these issues were a serious showstopper for us, so we enjoined the rest of the house being very nice and comfortable for eight people. Last but not least, the apartment has a large patio which is big value and a fantastic place to stay in the evening but forget doing BBQ since it is forbidden by the householder.

  • Vassilis and Elli were the perfect hosts! They were very friendly and helpful. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Vassilis who gave us a wonderful list of recommendations for restaurants, what sights to see and what beaches to visit. There were some welcome gifts for us, too, such as a very fine white wine, homemade strawberry jam and orange marmalade (made by Vassilis' mother), as well as pears from their tree and traditional island rusks for our breakfast. The apartment was spotless and decorated with taste - I think it was even better than the photographs. There was also a breezy patio and garden, where we enjoyed our breakfast and drank our wine at night. Elli brought round some cake and we spent our last evening with Vassilis and Elli (and their adorable little girl), on their patio, with wholesome home-cooked food and wine. The actual apartment is situated more or less in the centre of the island, so everything was within easy access. All in all, we were made to feel very welcome and it was a wonderful holiday! We will certainly go back and I would recommend staying at Villa Lemonia without reservations!

It is traditionally listed as one of the seven main Ionian Islands, although it is distant from the main group. Administratively, it belongs to the Islands regional unit, which is part of the Attica region (although at large distance from Attica itself). Kythira has a land area of 279.593 square kilometres (107.95 sq mi); it is located at the southwestern exit from the Aegean Sea, behind Cape Malea.[6] The rugged terrain is a result of prevailing winds from the surrounding seas which have shaped its shores into steep rocky cliffs with deep bays. The island has many beaches, of various composition and size; only half of them can be reached by road through the mountainous terrain of the island. The Kythirian Straits are nearby. The capital, Chora, is located on the southern part of the island having no ports connected to the southern Peloponnese or Vatika. Kythira's port for Vatika was previously situated at Agia Pelagia, although in recent years this port has been decommissioned and has been replaced by a new port at the coastal town of Diakofti, Kythira. Most of the over 60 village names end with "-anika" and a few end with -athika, -iana and -ades. This is due to the villages being named after influential families that settled first in that region. For Example, 'Logothetianika' is derived from the Greek last name of 'Logothetis'. Officially, Greek is Kythira's main language. Despite popular belief, most places such as public services and local administrations, will be able to oblige to an individual's needs in English as well. In specific areas, some of Kythira's population is fluent in Italian. The island is strategically located between the Greek mainland and Crete, and from ancient times until the mid 19th century was a crossroads of merchants, sailors, and conquerors. As such, it has had a long and varied history and has been influenced by many civilisations and cultures. This is reflected in its architecture (a blend of traditional, Aegean and Venetian elements), as well as the traditions and customs, influenced by centuries of coexistence of the Greek, Venetian, and Ottoman cultures. There are archaeological remains from the Helladic period, contemporary with the Minoans. There is archaeological evidence of Kythiran trade as far as Egypt and Mesopotamia. Kythira had a Phoenician colony in the early archaic age; the sea-snail which produces Tyrian purple is native to the island. Xenophon refers to a Phoenician Bay in Kythira (Hellenica 4.8.7, probably Avlemonas Bay on the eastern side of the island). The archaic Greek city of Kythira was at Scandea on Avlemonas; its ruins have been excavated. Its acropolis, now Palicastro (Palaeocastron, "Old Fort"), has the temple of Aphrodite Ourania, who may well represent a Phoenician cult of Astarte. In classical times, Kythira was part of the territory of several larger city-states. Sparta took the island from Argos early in the sixth century, and ruled it under a kytherodíkes (kυθηροδίκης, "judge on Kythira"), in Thucydides' time [4,53,3]; Athens occupied it three times when at war with Sparta (in 456 during her first war with Sparta and the Peloponnesians; from 426 to 410, through most of the great Peloponnesian War; and from 393 to 387/386, during the Corinthian War against Spartan dominance) and used it both to support her trade and to raid Laconia. Kythira was independent, and issued her own coins, in 195, after the Achaean defeat of Sparta. In Augustus' time, it was again subject to Sparta, being the property of Gaius Julius Eurycles, who was both a Spartan magnate and a Roman citizen. By this time, the Greek cities were in practice subject to the Roman Empire. Kythira continued to exist under the Roman Empire and its Byzantine successor state for centuries. Christianity is attested from the fourth century AD, the time of Constantine; according to her legend, Saint Elessa came from Laconia to convert the island. The chief town of the island, Kythira (or Chora, "village") has the Historical Archives of Kythira, the second largest in the Ionian islands, after Corfu.

Our house is close to Venetian Fortress, about 600 meters from the square of Milopotamos, close to beaches Limiona and Reed, the Saint Sophia cave in Mylopotamos watermills and waterfall Fairy. The Porphyris room consists of two traditional arches.
  • Sisi and Vana are wonderful hosts and people. They made the communication easy before arrival, send us all info we needed. They are super friendly yet discrete and give you all the local tips about food, beaches, villages that you have to visit! The room was very nice and clean, it has two separate spaces that can host up tp 3 people! It also has a large yard with trees were you can have breakfast or hang around. The location of the place is super, situated next to the old byzantine castle and just 2 min from Mylopotamos village, a place you have to visit. The small but chic village of Kato Chora is situated almost in the middle of the island which makes the access easy for all directions. We definately recommend!

Charming and quiet accommodation in the annexe of our 200 year old traditional Kythirian home. The Goth Room is part of the converted old stables; the name derives from an original XIX century bed from Italy that we find a little 'gothic'.
The Goth Room is part of the converted old stables, which is now home to a beautiful XIX century double bed from Italy (a small European double).

  • Pauline and Manolo's place is gorgeous and a perfect place to stay in Kithira! Friligianika is extremely convenient city to stay in for exploring the rest of the island, if you plan on adventuring all over. Pauline took great care of us - she is kind, accommodating, and always goes above and beyond with anything and everything you may need. She gave us wonderful recommendations for food and exploring the area. Our room was always nice and clean and homey - it was the perfect place to come back after a long day of exploring and needing rest. After a long day, we would come back to freshen up, drink Kithirian fatourada on the rooftop, and gaze at the stars. There are too many great things to say about this air b n b host! In summary, the Kiperi house is exquisite and cozy, and you will fall in love with it immediately. Cheers!

  • The Goth room is beautiful, light and airy, and spotlessly clean. The room is in a separate building to the main house, enclosed within a little courtyard, so is private and peaceful. Our hostess, Pauline, was very helpful, greeted us and showed us around and gave us any information we needed. We had a lovely stay and will certainly return.

  • We passed four wonderful days in Kiperi House at the island of Kithera. Everthing was even more beautiful than expected. We admired and enjoyed the architecture and the elegance of our room and the so well cured courtyard around so much that we'll have to come back to kithera to see the rest of the Island. Pauline and Manolo are both such lovely and helpful persons, just a great pleasure and discovery to find that place. Thank you so much again and hope to turn back to Kiperi House soon. My place is close to restaurants and dining, the beach, great views. You’ll love my place because of the high ceilings, the atmosphere, the communal courtyard. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, families with kids, big groups of friends, and furry friends (pets).
Trifillianika has one of the most spectacular views in all of Kythera. The village is created like a cul de sac and the view of the mountains and forest is only moments away. For those more adventurous there is an opportunity to explore the forest. The village is in a central part of Kythera, making it easy to get to other towns, cafes, taverns and the beaches. The neighborhood is generally very peaceful and all the neighbors are very welcoming.
  • This place is a hidden gem. Located in a very quiet hamlet yet close by car to the bustling village of Potamos, Zacharia's family house is full of charm and history. Our host went out of his way to address our questions and needs. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.

  • Zaharias’ house is very beautiful, well-kept and comfortable. Inside it is well furnished and very spacious: nothing is missing. There were seven of us and we all enjoyed the shared space. The patio outside is a perfect silent corner for reading, relax or have breakfast and dinner. Zaharias is a wonderful person and has always been very welcoming and helpful.

Located in Friligkianika. It is the first village from the port of Diakofti (12' by car) as well as from the airport of the island (5' by car). It is the perfect location for beginning the exploration of the magnificent views that the island has to offer.

  • This house is cozy and warm and very close to Potamos village. It had everything we needed (including fresh towels and sheets) and even the kitchen was well equipped. It was coll (for August), but also had air condition in case you need it. There was also plenty of parking space under the shade of a tree. The only things that could make someone uneasy are : 1)The fact that the upper bedroom is not actually a separate room from the downstairs living room - bedroom (which was not a problem for us) 2) The fact that some windows were not barred (secured) and did not have shutters to completely block the sunlight (also not an issue for us). Viki was helpful and kept in touch before and during our stay. Overall we would stay again in the house and in this beautiful island as well.
