Places to stay in Little River
**see 'Other notes' for our precautions** Just 5 minutes (3 miles) to the village of Mendocino. Near Van Damme Beach, Little River Inn and the Punch Bowl. Sit out on the deck and listen to the seals barking! Two sitting areas, eating area, bathroom with tub only (no shower) and screened off bedroom area. A small area serves as a 'kitchen' with coffee maker, small refrigerator, cutting board and microwave. This is a two-story private apartment with own entrance . There are shared walls.
Step back in time and soak in the claw foot tub. Sip wine by the wood burning stove. Take time out to become reacquainted with your loved one and/or maybe more importantly, yourself. A beautiful space to romance and reflect on life. Explore the gardens, reconnect with nature. They say we should all touch the dirt with our feet sometimes. Say hello to our chickens and rooster. We supply filtered water, but the tap is pure, mineralized, very wonderful well-water that we have tested from time to time. So please drink!! Please no plastic bottled water! We offer fair trade, organic coffees and teas complimentary. Enjoy them out on the deck or in front of the fire.
Very rural but close to hwy 1 and the amenities. Just 3 miles south of the town of Mendocino. Van Damme beach and park are just a quarter mile from the property.
  • Cozy house in a nice quiet neighborhood. Very close to a number of great hiking spots as well as easy ocean access. Not far from grocery store and coffee shops too.

  • Perfect spot, just a minute walk to the ocean! The house is surrounded by beautiful gardens and a thick canopy of evergreens. House was nicely decorated and very clean. Comfortable furniture and all appliances were almost brand new. Fireplace inside was a nice touch for cooler evenings with free access to firewood on the property (electric heating options too!) Kathleen was great, informative about the grounds and regularly checked in to ensure my stay was perfect. Responds to all messages almost immediately. Very kind and thoughtful host👌👌

  • This is an amazing, cozy, beautiful 2-story hideaway cottage nestled into Little River just a stone throw's away from Van Damme Park (take the Fern Canyon Trail for the best green and fresh hike I've ever been on) and easy access to highway 1 to get to Mendocino and Fort Bragg. Kathleen had all the amenities from plush rugs to rustic heaters and a true iron fireplace. There's a mini fridge and microwave along with wine glasses etc available. The bathtub is quite different for us typical-shower people, but easy to figure out. Overall, easy check-in, super clean home, excellent location and perfect stay.

    Kelly2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Easy check in, privacy, and great sitting areas throughout the home. We enjoyed our days in Mendocino, seeing whale, and drinking wine. Sitting by the fire was a peaceful way to end each night. Thanks for everything, Kathleen!

    Katie2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Kathleen was such a gracious host. Communicative and helpful, but not intrusive. She even had the fire going for us when we arrived on a chilly night! The place is such a great retreat, and in a perfect location to explore the Mendocino coast. Could not recommend more highly.

    Mike2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in Kathleens beautiful little house for six nights, and we just loved it. From the fire that Kathleen had lit for us when we arrived, to the charming house itself, and the beautiful garden with birds and a view of the forest behind, this place is just an absolute gem. Mendocino is only a short dive away, and you can walk down to the (amazing!) Punch Bowl and the ocean cliffs beneath Little River in about 5 Minutes. When you listen closely, you can actually hear the waves crashing. And the bath tub is great! Kathleen is a wonderful host, so kind and helpful and unobtrusive, and communication was really easy and smooth. The pictures, beautiful as they are, just don’t do the place justice. We would love to be back sometime! Thank you for a wonderful stay, Kathleen!

    Thiemo2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Kathleen has a beautiful place in a fantastic location close to the beach and the town of Mendocino. We also loved the breakfast at circa 62 right down the road. Thanks for a great weekend!

  • This property is lovely and peaceful with just a short drive to the town of Mendocino. The bed is comfy, the space is clean and the land with the flowers and trees quite lovely, I’d definitely recommend a stay at Daphne’s place!

    Carolyn2020-04-05T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at D&R's place. Our room had a fireplace which was great while it was rainy and cold outside. The space was spotless and the we slept great on the comfy bed! Would definitely recommend if you want to stay outside a town but be close to both Mendocino and Fort Bragg.

Enjoy great ocean views from this newly renovated classic seashore cottage! Nestled into a bluff overlooking Little River Cove, this gem is an open studio cottage that sleeps 6 comfortably on a Queen sofa sleeper and two Queen alcove beds.
  • Came up for a girls trip where we really wanted that “sleepover” feel, having all 5 of us in 1 room was important and this place did not disappoint at all! It was exactly what we needed plus more! We had to check in late and they made that seamless and when letting them know in the morning that we made it and dropping off paperwork they even remembered that it was 2 girls birthdays. When we realized right before coming up we needed wine glasses and champagne flutes they made sure we had them. The fresh baked cookies were a great touch! The hot tub was so nice at night looking out over the ocean. This cottage is down the hill from the others and feels much more private and that was perfect!!! We will be back!

  • Lovely place!

  • Awesome place. Very close to town and amazing views

    James2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • I had an amazing time staying at the little river house. The hospitality was outstanding and the place was everything we imagined and more. Beautiful ocean views, great location, very clean and comfortable, and also very romantic! The personal touches of the cookies, and pet supplies were also wonderful. Highly recommend!!

    Kary2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Great place! The hot tub is totally private and has a view of the ocean. The alcove beds have the softest sheets and amazing pillows. My two friends and I had a great time in this little cottage right on highway 1 with easy access to lots of hikes, restaurants, pubs, and more.

    Shelby2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Great place.

    Anthony2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing time in Little River. The cottage was perfect. Clean, spacious, with everything we needed to enjoy our stay. Loved the personal touches for our pup and the local recommendations. The property was beautiful with a big yard for the pup to roam and a fire pit and gas grill for our enjoyment. The view from our cottage (and hot tub) was great. Would definitely return, hopefully sooner rather than later!

    Annie2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Little River Cottage is the perfect place to be when visiting Mendocino. Close to all the things you would want to see. It's quiet, clean and a grocery store with everything you would need is just opposite to it. I would 10/10 recommend this place. People were super friendly, offered great suggestions and welcomed us with cookies! Check-in was easy, parking was easy.

Enjoy a private forest camping hut. Rustic yet designed with comfort in mind. Nestled among the Redwoods a few miles from the Pacific Ocean. This is a place for you to disconnect and reconnect with the surroundings. To unplug and decompress from busy life. 5 miles from our town of Elk and a nice coastal drive to historic Mendocino. All bookings include 11% Mendocino bed tax. Our calendar is open 3 months in advance. If you have specific dates that interest you don’t hesitate to ask ;)
Instagram: @elkcaliforniaforestretreat *Covid-19: Mendocino County has recently upgraded its shelter-in-place policy and is requiring all short-term rentals to cease operation until future notice. Feel free to reach out with any questions or looking to book at a later date. If our hut is unavailable, please check out our water tower retreat listings: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/6887064 *Please discuss the details with us before your stay if you are using this as a photoshoot promoting any lifestyle brand, products or services. **Important Consideration** before making a reservation. *The Redwood Forest Camping Hut is accessed via a forest path from the parking area. *The space has multiple steps and stairs which may be a problem for some individuals. *There is NO kitchen for cooking. We supply plates and utensils so you can bring your take-out or snacks and enjoy your meal either indoors or outdoors in solitude. There is a sink so your plates and utensils may be cleaned. There is a French press and a teapot so you can make hot beverages. We encourage you to enjoy the local restaurants and recognize the hut experience is not a cooking experience due to the many forest animals and insects that it tends to attract. *Modern compost toilet. Not a flushing toilet :) Please see picture for reference. We suggest guests arrive before sunset as the forest gets very dark at night. Please bring a torchlight if you will be arriving late or after dark. *There is no wifi or cell services. Incase of an emergency, we have a phone for you to use. :) *NO hairdryer or hair iron, please. The hut can only support minimal electrical usage. Only charge small devices, anything more will cause the power to turn off. The space is equipped with: - Queen bed - Private Outdoor hot shower and bath - Outdoor sink - Small gas stove burner for Tea & Coffee. - Small Cafe table - Books/games/music player - Gas heating - Modern composting toilet (Please see picture for reference) The hut is inside the forest and this means easy access for critters. To keep them outside, please carry your rubbish away and make sure any food is stored away adequately. It is not a good idea to leave unwashed dishes for these same reasons. There are insects too ... :)
The Redwood Forest Camping Hut is set in the woods with no visible neighbours. Our neighbors are all generally very quiet. Our little town of Elk is fairly small, but beautiful. A great place for a hike down to the beach or along the coastline. For any provisions we have a great market (The Elk Store - closes 6:00pm) with sandwiches, cheeses, a great selection of wine and beer, and all other main essentials. You can grab breakfast/lunch at Queens Roadhouse Cafe (Thursday thru Monday 8am to 3pm). There are also many other restaurants/cafes along Hwy 1 within a few miles. --- Mendocino - 25 min (14.6 miles) Elk Town - 11 min (5.4 miles) The larger market in Mendocino is open until 9:00pm.
  • Wow! What a beautiful and inspiring place to spend a weekend. Rob and Elsa’s take on the Japanese art of forest bathing is beautiful. We loved our time there and would go back tomorrow if we could.

  • This place is amazing! Looking forward to coming back

    Alvaro2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • Our weekend getaway at Rob and Elsa's tree camping hut was magical. We liked all the detailed touches (especially the cute notes), the comfy bed, the outdoor shower (complete with eucalyptus oil), the recommendations on local restaurants (shout out to Queenie's!) and the relaxing atmosphere. The hut was well constructed and the furnishings were very stylish and cozy. We left inspired to build a little forest cabin for ourselves one day. Until then, we hope to return to enjoy the camping hut again soon.

    Kaitlyn2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • This place is perfect. Every detail is clearly thought through and curated for comfort and vibe. Throughout our three days I kept finding little touches and notes that would make me “aww”. Just an incredible spot to disappear for a while and let time stretch with a cozy someone.

    Tyler2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • My stay at the Forest retreat was magical. The design and details were above what I expected and it's those little details that make this place so great. I will definitely be back again.

    Brandon2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Such a magical experience! Rob & Elsa put so much thought and detail into this space. It felt so lovely to spend our gals weekend, gazing out to the redwoods, and breathing in that fresh air! What a nice escape from the city... a true gem! Thank You.

  • Rob & Elsa’s place is gorgeous with detail-oriented style. We loved the coziness and comfortability of the space. The bedroom was a dream and we really enjoyed the chance to disconnect from our phones and computers!

Luxuriously appointed with a private deck, modern farmhouse furnishings, vaulted ceilings and a King sized bed, the Buckhorn Cove room provides great accommodation for a relaxing escape from everyday life. • The Inn at Schoolhouse Creek was extraordinarily cozy. I enjoyed waking up to a view of the ocean. The soft king size bed made for a good night’s sleep. A complimentary mini bottle of white wine was left for me. It was nice to unwind after days of travel with that. After-hours check-in was super easy thanks to clear and prompt instructions from Martin. Would return!

Nestled between the redwoods & pigmy forest 3 miles from Mendocino Village, this tiny house comes with a kitchenette, sofa bed, bar/dining area, and sleeping loft, with a short stroll outside through the garden to your separate private bathroom & shower. *BED IS UP A LADDER At night you can enjoy s'mores around the stone fire pit, while star-gazing and enjoying the sounds of silence... except for the chorus of frogs in the pond and chirping of the birds. Then wake up to a morning Nespresso!
We know the area well, so feel free to ask us for tips on anything that comes to mind... whether it's an activity you're interested in, where to eat or upcoming local events. Or just take it easy in the quiet comfort of our secluded property and feel free to pick some herbs, veggies, & apples in the garden. We just added a 2-person hammock by the fire pit, so enjoy napping or stargazing. Our water is excellent for drinking, filtered from a well. Wi-Fi may be spotty on occasion, and no cell service at the property unless you have Verizon. (Some other carriers work here, but not AT&T.)
All properties in our area are between 5 and 20 acres, so there's plenty of peace and privacy. Five of our 20 acres are fenced in, so you can roam the grounds without getting lost in the woods!
  • Tracy & Bart have created a truly magical place and are the best hosts I've come across in all my time on Airbnb. They've thought of everything you might need, including little touches that make your stay even more memorable, and are super accommodating and helpful when you need it.

    Michael2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Only stayed one night, but wish we stayed at least two

    David2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Our recent stay at this tiny house in Ukiah made for an unforgettable experience. Tucked into a grove of Redwoods, this charming little accommodation is part of Tracy's and Bart's overarching property, which also includes their main house with an adjacent guesthouse, and then a little cabin and the tiny house. Some perks we particularly enjoyed: - On the property is a little outdoor fire pit which all guests are free to use. There were ingredients for smores provided in the accommodations! A really nice touch! - The Nespresso machine in the tiny house which allowed for delicious morning coffee, with both regular and plant-based creams provided -- a thoughtful touch. - Portable heaters places in the house and separately located bathroom, for cooler days. - An outdoor shower provided exclusively for the tiny house -- with all necessary toiletries provided. - Clearly labeled and assigned parking spots for each accommodation/guest. - Plenty of towels and linens made available for guests. - The warm + friendly welcome from hosts Bart + Tracy, and their impeccable and useful communication leading up to + throughout the stay. - The nightly "frog orchestra!" I had never heard such a symphony of frogs before. It felt really nice and nostalgic to hear them again, and so many! - Just the overall experience of getting to test out how what it would be like to live in a tiny home, and the pleasures that can be found in such a type of minimal living space and lifestyle. : )

    Ulara2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Do yourself a favor and stay here at least two nights — the first is just enough to get settled in, but the second day is when the real magic begins. It was such a treat to wake up slowly, do some tiny house yoga, enjoy breakfast and nespresso on the patio with the sun in my eyes, and head out to adventure along the coast for the afternoon. The magic continued with a fire in the fire pit that evening, and some cozy time inside with a book by the faux fireplace. I cannot recommend this little oasis more - don’t hesitate to book if you’re looking for a Mendocino retreat. Thoughtful touches and amenities galore, and overall a delightful experience. I have a feeling I’ll be back!

  • Very clean, hospitable, and convenient location to access all of Mendocino County.

  • An adorable Tiny House with tall trees as neighbors peaking in lovingly from all the windows. Terrific location and super friendly and accommodating hosts. I'd love to come back and stay longer next time to gaze at the blanket of stars and take advantage of the gorgeous garden area.

    Rebecca2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • I am so happy I came across Tracy and Bart's tiny house. It was the perfect Valentine's Day trip. They had so many extra amenities that made this stay so amazing! I would come back to Mendocino again just to stay in the tiny house. I absolutely recommend it to anyone who wants a cute, quiet getaway.

Situated in our beautiful garden, this cozy little redwood Shanti cabin is a 30 second walk to the bathroom, 12 minutes from Mendocino village, and other attractions, is equipped with double/full mattress, has electricity, bath towels, small table, two chairs and a oil heater. Self check in, just in case we are out. The Sunlit is directly to the right, enter through the garden gate which is to the west of the parking, you will see the cabin with the purple door. Key is in the cabin.
One of two Shanti cabins situated in our garden; small, cozy and private. This one, beautifully built out of salvaged redwood, is facing south right in to the beautiful garden and has great afternoon sun on the deck. Check-in from 2pm-10pm, check-out 12pm. Self check is sometimes necessary after 10pm.
We're 4 miles inland in the "banana belt" as it's been dubbed. The fog tends to hang just out of reach of this cozy zone.
  • We had a great stay! The property is really close to Mendocino (and only a 20 minute drive to Fort Bragg) and right next to the Pygmy Forest and other hiking trails to the Van Damme State Park. The garden makes it feel very magical. Just a quick note- you will loose cell reception and wifi access when you drive in to Little River. They have wifi at the main house if you do need to use it, but make sure you have all your maps and things ready before you turn into the property! Thanks again to our hosts for sharing their space!

  • This place is very cute- on a property with other little cottages. Steve the host is great. Bed was one of the best sleeps I’ve had. Just an FYI, the bathrooms are detached from the sleep space but we didn’t mind- the whole little farm is pretty magical

    Lauren2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Down to earth home and dude. Such care put into all of the aspects of home. Steve's hands went into a look of the work in the Shanti and it is clear to see he is a thoughtful caretaker of his land and home. Would book again, I look forward to returning sometime soon.

    Alexander2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Steve’s place was perfect! The little shanti I stayed in was very clean and cozy and made for a relaxing stay. The hosts were phenomenal and very welcoming!

  • I came to Pegasus Farms with the intention of spending a weekend alone writing in a cozy space surrounded by natural beauty. I did do some writing and I was surrounded by natural beauty, but other things ended up happening too, including dance party, steak grilling, farming, hiking through a pygmy forest, music jamming, deep conversations with lovely humans, hanging out with ridiculously sweet cats and a chatty duck, experiencing some fine dining, and reading pearls of wisdom from a book called, The Best Advice Ever Given, which was on the bookshelf of my shanti. It was a magical weekend spent with some beautiful people (i.e., Steve and Anne-Marie). I will definitely be going back. Some useful information - I was glad I brought some rain boots that I could easily slip on and off to walk to the bathroom in the wee hours of the morning. It does get chilly at night, so bring warm clothing. Other than that, just be open to the magic of this beautiful place:)

Previously ran as Didjeridoo Dreamtime Inn, now Didjeridoo Boarding House. Live for a month or forever in the most quaint seaside town on the coast of California. We have 5 of these lovely "standard" rooms, all completely different. As we are a Victorian House, the rooms vary in size as well. But all are upstairs (except our ADA accessible room which is downstairs), All have a bathroom, shower and queen bed. Only a short walk away from the rugged Northern California Pacific Coast.
  • It was such a pleasure for Jay and me to spend a few days at Didgeridoo. Charles and Mary were delightful. Room #61 was cozy with a fireplace and hot tub. Where do I begin describing the full breakfast? All carefully prepared and cooked, abundant and delicious. Charles has fascinating travel stories, so be sure to ask. This is an Airbnb in the heart of Mendocino not to be missed. We will be back!

    Sally2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had an awesome stay at Charles's place. It's in a great location and was very clean. The bed and pillows were perfect for us and the tub was awesome. I really loved the breakfasts, which were yummy and meeting the other guests. And Charles gave us really helpful advice about local attractions and history, as well as a fascinating account of his travels in Nepal. The place itself is just a bit on the funky side here and there, so if you're persnickety it might not be a great fit, but didn't mind at all. In fact, we loved the place.

    Rob2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is a laidback, charming, quirky place great for folks who don't need a lot of personal how-to instruction. Entry (at least when I arrived) was a key left in an envelope with my room number and other details (and a number to call, answered by someone who was super helpful and provided advice on where to grab dinner). Each room is unique (some 2nd story ones look like they have balcony space). Mine on the first floor had a massive 4-poster bed, a fireplace set to be lit, privacy curtains, tons of space and a bath with a clawfoot tub (and handheld shower head). Totally cozy and comfortable. The family-style breakfast (spicy oven roasted potatoes, mango scrambled eggs, blueberry pancakes, yogurt and wild-picked blueberries) was a great opportunity to engage with fellow lodgers and Charles, and led to some intellectually stimulating conversation. I wish I could have stayed longer!

  • Charles' B&B was wonderful. Fantastic location in downtown Mendocino, the room was nicely appointed and the breakfast was incredible! Definitely coming back!

  • The old Victorian house was charming. We stayed in a room with it's own bathroom and fire place. Drinking water was provided as well as firewood and kindling and breakfast! I enjoyed it.

  • Great lodging in Mendocino! Very pretty old house. We just stayed one night. Our room had a big comfy canopy bed, and a fireplace for heat. I was happy to see a fire tee’d up for us. Kindling and logs were in the fireplace, all I did was shove a tissue in and light it with the provided matches! The provided breakfast was really nice! Good coffee, scrambled eggs, potatoes and pancakes- all seemed fresh and homemade. I enjoyed talking with Charles, the host. This place is a great value in a good location. I won’t hesitate to stay again!

    Katie2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay! What a great location, across the street from the water and an easy short walk to the amazing bluffs, as well as town! Comfy room with great breakfast and friendly conversation with Charles as well as other guests. Look forward to returning again soon!

  • The Didgeridoo is a quirky, quaint, and welcoming place to stay for a coastal getaway. I loved the old charm of the historical house, and Charles’ famous breakfast (fluffy blueberry pancakes, orange French toast, berries, yogurt, roasted potatoes, eggs scrambled with mango salsa, coffee/tea—yum!) It’s a 3 minute walk from the inn to the main shops, a 5 minute walk to the beach, and a 2 minute drive away from the most peaceful river kayak spot I’ve ever been to (Navarro River). We fell in love with Mendocino and we will be back to stay at the Didgeridoo again! Thanks Charles!

The updated kitchen has granite countertops, gas range, microwave, large pantry, and a dining area. The cozy bedroom includes a queen size bed, two nightstands, and a closet. There is also a petite three piece bathroom. Although smaller in size both spaces have everything you need to make you feel right at home. In the fully fenced back yard take time to relax in the new spa with ocean views. The back patio offers a place for barbecuing and al fresco dining. If you don't feel like cooking, right next door is the Little River Inn offering a fabulous dining experience as well as Ole's Whale Watch Bar. They also have a 9 hole golf course, tennis courts, and spa. Just a short walk will take you to Van Damme State Park where you can explore an incredibly scenic network of trails including the unique pygmy forest and lush fern canyon. Its protected inlet makes it a perfect location for kayaking. Just across the street from Legacy is the Little River Market and Deli offering a variety of gourmet food, wine, and takeout. This great location offers something for everyone without needing to get in a car. ~Please note:~ Little River Cottage is located off of Highway 1 in Little River, while this is a slow stretch of single lane highway, guests that are light sleepers or sensitive to noise may be disrupted by the road noise. 3-D TOUR AVAILABLE at (the tour will open in a new window).
  • What an amazing cottage! I am so pleased to get to write the very first review of this property. I will begin with the location. It is literally across the street from a well-stocked deli/gas station/post office/fancy upscale restaurant. It is positioned on the side of highway 1 but it is so insulated that you don’t hear any road traffic. You can look at the ocean from the living room and feel the sun through the windows. There are neighboring cottages on all sides but the privacy fence makes everything feel separated enough for my liking. Getting into the hot tub under the stars at night feels isolated and private. If there were any other neighbors, they were very quiet. The decor was gorgeous inside and out with the most genius little details. Everything functions inside in a way that makes you need to use minimal brain power so you can truly relax. The remotes to everything are simple. The hot tub needs no adjusting at all and is always ready. My romantic getaway was beyond perfect here. The bed and bedding were top quality and unbelievably comfortable. I slept like a baby every night there. The host set out brandy and chocolates for Valentine’s Day too! The shower has great pressure, the kitchen has everything to make anything, the place is immaculate and beautiful, and i loved every moment of being there. It is in close proximity to the towns of Mendocino and Ft. Bragg so day trips to do things such as go to Van Damme state park, the Botanical Gardens, or Glass Beach are all within 10 miles or so. There are very fancy places to eat in the town of Mendocino and in downtown Fort Bragg. The water at the cottage has it’s own built-in filtration system so you don’t have to bring along any. Best rental i’ve ever had. Note that there isn’t phone service here but there is wifi in the cottage. I give this place 10/10

The rooms are above our restaurant, which is open for lunch and dinner daily. Our rooms are simple and beautiful. They are all newly decorated and have all new beds and furnishings. We don't recommend bringing small children, our windows aren't safe for little kids when open. The stairs are also quite steep. The rooms are on the second story.
The Inn is located right in the main part of town, we have ocean views from most windows, and beautiful views of town from the others. We have a beautiful flower and culinary garden as well, which is nice to sit and relax in. Lots of street parking.
  • I was moved into room #1 by the host. They were very good about thinking how to reduce risk in regards to COVID19. Very convenient location in the heart of the village of Mendocino. Nice to park and walk to many restaurants, the headlands, and the beach. Comfortable bed and stayed very cozy during a March storm overnight. Highly recommend.

Our Quiet Meadow Cottage is located on the spectacular Mendocino Coast in a beautiful rural area just 1.5 miles from Pacific Ocean on 13 acres of gardens, meadows and redwood forests, with sheep and llamas next door on our quiet, dead-end, paved road. We are 5 miles from the fishing village of Albion, 12 miles from historically preserved coastal village of Mendocino (an art, wine and food lover's paradise) and 20 to 30 miles from Fort Bragg’s harbor, ocean fishing, whale-watching cruises, sand dunes, Botanical Gardens, the historic Skunk Train, two virgin redwood preserves, and many Anderson Valley wineries. Our guest cottage is clean, cozy and quiet with a queen bedroom, tub & shower bathroom, small kitchen, sunny deck with BBQ and recliner chairs, and a comfy, sun-filled living room (with 2 additional day-beds). No other houses are in sight (besides the owners' next door), hummingbirds, deer and wild turkeys frequent the meadow in front, nearby is a hammock and extensive flower and organic vegetable gardens you're invited to lounge in, and at night what you usually hear most is the distant ocean surf. Costs: During the off-season (Jan-March) it's $115 per weeknight and $140 for Friday and Saturday nights. During the high-season, April-Dec, it's $140 per weeknight and $160 for Friday and Saturday nights. There is a 2-night minimum, a one-time $50 cleaning fee and no other costs. (The county bed tax is already included in the list price.) You get a 15% discount for week-long stays and 33% off for a month. To keep the cottage fresh for all occupants, smoking and pets are not permitted. More photos can be sent to you upon request, and several photos of the property, garden and Mendocino Coast area can be viewed at the owners' home-exchange website, available at Quiet Meadow Cottage, spelled as one word, followed by a period and com. Note that we have a radio, CD-player, Smart TV, DVD-player and lots of DVDs, but not TV reception or cable. Cell phone reception works for some carriers and not for others. There is a phone in the cottage in case you want to give its number to family or friends, and which you may use freely for local calls. The internet is accessible thru a secured high-speed Internet connection. We also have a generator to provide electricity in case the power is out. The cold Pacific Ocean 1 1/2 miles away usually keeps our summer daytime temp below 80 degrees-- 60 degrees during foggy days-- and nights can go as low as 45 in summer and 30 in winter. Bring layers. The cottage is heated centrally by a Monitor propane heater whose thermostat you can adjust to your desired temperature. We provide all bedding, towels, bathrobes, hair-dryer, iron and ironing board, and numerous books, games, CDs and DVDs. Your deck has 2 recliners and a BBQ. The check-in time is 3pm, and check-out is noon. We do not provide breakfasts or meals. The kitchen includes a propane stovetop, mini-fridge, sink, microwave and toaster ovens, stick blender, toaster, coffee makers and electric tea kettle, plus sugar, salt & pepper, and usually some teas and spices. However, you need to bring your own coffee, cream and all the food you want to eat. Many restaurants are available in the area, and Albion village has a good little grocery store and deli. Driving directions are at the bottom. We will do our best to insure you an enjoyable time in the country. Tom & Sharon Comments from the guestbook: "Thank you for creating such a spacious, uncluttered, tranquil environment. This lovely cottage, deep rest, miles of quiet, and black nights all conspire to ease my wound-up nerves." "We enjoyed our stay and were very refreshed by the quiet, natural beauty nearby and deer and wild turkeys stopping by to visit from time to time. We loved our 3-hour kayak ride up the Albion River. We didn't see another soul but did see several harbor seals, river otters, cranes and hawks." "This is truly a special place. I was looking for a retreat and I found more... I found myself again. Thank you for creating a safe, warm space and sharing your incredibly beautiful property." "You have a truly magical world here and a cozy cottage to comfort guests. Being here in this enchanted forest is a true gift." "Thanks for this lovely space to rest and become restored. The nature, the quiet, the warm and sunny days have left us all softened around the edges." "This is my 5th time staying here in this cozy space. Your land is more beautiful than ever and the peace and quiet so supportive. The blooming wysteria was an extra delight, truly lovely."
Our immediate rural neighborhood is explorable via paths thru our meadows and woods and by walking on Middle Ridge Road, a little-used, dead-end, paved country lane. The village of Albion is 5 miles away and has a little grocery with wine selection & deli, a post office, hardware store, ocean harbor, beach, boat rental and 3 restaurants. Seven miles up the coast from Albion is Mendocino-- a historically preserved coastal village and an art, wine and food lover's paradise. Seven miles further north is the larger town of Fort Bragg, with a large harbor, ocean fishing, whale-watching cruises, 25 restaurants, sand dunes, Botanical Gardens, and the historic Skunk Train. Forty miles inland from Albion are two virgin redwood preserves and 20 Anderson Valley wineries. Albion is great base for hiking, biking, kayaking and exploring the beautiful North Coast.
  • My wife and I had a wonderful time staying at Tom and Sharon’s cottage. It was a very peaceful, beautiful place to stay. Thank you, Kathie & Jeffrey

    Jeffrey2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • This is the most cozy, lovely cottage, set in beautiful and quiet woods. It is well-appointed, full of plants (including the biggest monstera I've ever seen!!!), and perfect for a relaxing weekend away. We loved watching hummingbirds at the feeder, and sitting on the deck to enjoy the quiet. We're definitely planning on coming back for a longer trip.

    Amelia2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • I came to Tom’s place to meditate, to create and to simply enjoy some quiet solitude. The space was perfect for this. Even though Tom and Sharon’s home is right next door, it didn’t take away from the feeling of privacy. Quiet Cottage is indeed very quiet. It’s also very clean and contains everything you might need including WiFi. Also, the faucet water, which comes from their well, is delicious! There was a house sitter in their home when I was there because Tom and Sharon went away for a couple of days. I didn’t get to meet them, but it was easy to absorb the good energy in their space. These are obviously good and honest people. The value is excellent and I would definitely stay here again!

    Brenda2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing stay in the Quiet Cottage. The tastefully decorated interior of the cottage was perfect. The highlight of our stay was the surrounding garden. We could tell that a great attention to detail and expertise in landscaping were put into this magical gem of a spot. Two little deer even came to visit!

    Zachary2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • This was the perfect place to hang our hats during our stay in the Albion/Mendocino area. It is located in its own redwood paradise. You can hike just outside the door of the cottage. And, for longer hikes, there are plenty of hiking trails in the vicinity. The cottage is a fully functional unit. It was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Probably the nicest, hottest, most pressurized shower we have ever encountered. This place is a 5+.

    Stephan2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely, quiet place in the forest with deers tiptoeing around at night. If you wake up early enough you can see the steam rising from the nearby flora.

    Matthew2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin was wonderful! The photos don’t capture all of its beauty. The drive to the cabin was scenic and peaceful. The cabin was clean, had helpful signs/labels/instructions throughout, and contained all the bathroom/bedroom/cooking supplies we could need. It was the perfect getaway. Tom next door stopped by to make sure we were doing well. He was friendly and great to chat with. Looking forward to coming back sometime!

    Jenny2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Tom and Sharon were excellent hosts! Communicative, friendly and helpful. They clearly communicated details before we arrived. The space was sparkling clean when we got there and, although small, had everything we needed and more. There were helpful little notes about navigating the new space, light switches, kitchen appliances, etc... There were a lot of local guides, resources, and novels to choose from the bookshelf as well as a DVD library. The property is beautiful and well maintained. You can tell they have poured their hearts into this little oasis. Location was remote, and although adjacent to their home, we completely felt like we were "away". Stargazing was mind-blowing. We took some wonderful walks in the neighborhood which sits atop a coastal ridge, nestled in redwoods and flanked by beautiful and deep river valleys. It was a short, 15 minute leisurely walk to view the ocean across some coastal pastures. Basic amenities in "downtown" Albion are a short 10 minute drive away as well as the drama of the Northern CA coast. We couldn't get enough. Mendocino is close, Ft. Bragg not that much farther and a ton of vistas, beaches, coves, cliffs and parks in between. If you're looking to reboot and recharge, I'd strongly recommend it.

Comfortable and cosy, this cabin is nestled under old redwoods in the Mendocino sunbelt. The front deck is sunny and warm and overlooks a long open meadow. • Wonderful cabin located on a beautiful property. Loved watching deer grazing in the beautiful meadow each morning. Located less than 15 minutes from downtown Mendocino, the headlands and incredible parks. Liz and Kelvin were very hospitable as well. Highly recommend!

  • Absolutely charming little place set on an incredibly serene slice of land. Very quiet, sunny, peaceful and a great escape from the city. We had a resident family of deer strolling around and loved waking up to the sounds of birds chirping. The hosts were great and very accommodating of our (slightly annoying) poodle mix. I would echo other reviewers to say that if you plan to do any cooking at all, bring your own equipment (knives, measuring utensils, even a cutting board) as the kitchen, though equipped enough, is not really set up for frequent home cooking. Otherwise, a perfect stay!

  • Liz & Kelvin's cabin was a wonderful place to stay for our first trip to Mendocino. They included lots of helpful resources and guides to the area. We didn't have cell service at the cabin, but that helped add to the romantic ambiance of the experience, and it did have wifi. We really enjoyed our stay, and the cabin was a cozy home away from home.

A private, clean, quiet cabin, in the woods. Wifi and EV charging. Well mannered dog welcome. Wild english garden, indoor and outdoor kitchens, fabulous bathroom. Warm and welcoming. Puzzles & Games. Magical! It's a must see!
Juliette's Place is two miles from the ocean, where the only sounds you will hear is the ocean crashing against the rocks, and an occasional passing car. We offer jigsaw puzzles, novels, fabulous organic tea, a wood stove, and a beautiful outdoor kitchen for nice days. This cabin is the epitome of the country experience, and a great place to get away! Juliette, who lived in the cabin for thirty years, played the cello and welcomed her musician friends, who came to stay with her from all over the world. You can still hear faint strains of the music in the breeze.
The cabin is set in the woods with no visible neighbors. The neighbors are generally quiet, with an occasional child's voice or dog barking. We have one neighbor who whistles as he works outside, but you may never hear him.
  • A sweet, quiet spot nestled in the woods and only minutes from the coast. The wood burning stove was especially cozy in the rain and fog, as was soaking in the tub. Peter and Lee are excellent hosts and it was great to have someone right next door to answer questions who also completely respected our privacy. They provide tide books, and maps of local state parks which is how we learned about the jug handle reserve - highly recommend the ecological staircase trail / pygmy forest.

    Stephanie2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Really cute spot, felt rather isolated from the rest of the surrounding homes in a nice way. There was a great wood stove in the middle that was a lot of fun to keep lit and made the place smell quite pleasant (wood was very well stocked!). Less than 10 minutes from the city of Mendocino and lots a nearby oceanside hikes. There is a nice little grocery store just down the road that made light shopping quite convenient. Bed was very comfortable for the two of us and really warm (and we stayed warm after the wood stove had burned out throughout the night). There is a really cool bathtub and a kitchen that was more or less fully equipped (but limited to two small burners). Great value and awesome location overall.

    Kyle2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Charming, cozy little cabin tucked in the woods. Beautiful location, nice and quiet, well stocked with firewood for the wood burning stove and kitchen essentials. Peter was very kind and helpful. Easy drive to Mendocino and Fort Bragg.

    Katie2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • A stay at juliette's is always amazing. We love taking baths in the big tub they have, as well as using the bidet. Staying in winter is especially gratifying as you use a wood stove to keep warm. The tea is always nice in the winter too. After many stays Lee and Peter have always provided many different new kinds of tea, which are always good. It's also a nice place to come for inspiration for art. A wonderful secluded getaway that's not too far from the modern world to be inconvenient.

  • Very unique little cabin in a quiet part only 10 minutes from Mendocino with friendly hosts. The place was well kept, rustic, and very Mendocino-feeling. Would highly recommend!

  • This cabin is adorable, the bathtub is fantastic, the kitchen is great for cooking, and the bed so so comfortable! Plus, the skylights in the roof are incredible, watching the stars from bed is such a treat.

    Kamala2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect get away in a quiet, green, back to basic place. We loved our stay! If you are looking for a cabin in the woods, where you will put away your phones in order to make a puzzle, this is your spot.

    Suzanne2019-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Wow, my partner and I had an absolutely beautiful time here at Lee and Peter’s space. The cabin is so darling and gets incredible sunlight, the bathtub was such a dream and the cabin itself was so cozy. The skylight above the bed allowed us to observe a beautiful full moon. Lee also included tea from their tea company that was delicious and such a thoughtful touch. The hosts were very quick and good at responding. We enjoyed our time here very much and would love to return.

  • We loved our stay at Blanchard House and hope to return someday! This is probably the coziest and most welcoming Airbnb we’ve ever stayed at, from being greeted in person by the friendly hosts and their cat, to all the amenities in the room (an entire converted attic space, huge!)... they provided lots of yummy breakfast items (banana bread, yogurts, tea & coffee, fresh local fruit) in the room, and we especially loved soaking in the clawfoot tub with water from their well, and soaking up the sun on the private deck while enjoying the beautiful view. Great location for exploring the area’s beautiful beaches and trails, and very close to town, too. Thanks so much — ps, Superman knew a good place well before Airbnb ;)

  • We had a wonderful weekend getaway at the Blanchard House! Beautiful home with a great view. The area is peaceful with easy access to the coastal towns. Melody and James were exceptional hosts who honestly have thought of everything you’d ever need for your stay away from home. They were also very prompt with communication. You can’t go wrong if you book a few nights at this location!

  • Lovely space close in to Mendocino! It was perfect for 4 people visiting for a family wedding. We had more space, every amenity needed and a better value compared to others staying at Inns nearby. The house is decorated very well and was clean. Check in was straightforward. Don't forget your swimsuit for the hot tub! Great way to relax at the end of the day and watch the stars. We also saw a wide variety of wildlife around the house and the nearby golf course. Would stay here again without question!

  • I will definitely be coming back to this sweet little cottage! I took a trip alone, and I wanted something cozy and quaint. The room was very clean, the queen bed was very comfortable, and the fireplace was very cozy and warm! As other guests had mentioned on their comments, I also packed a plate, bowl, and some silverware. I bought some food and had my breakfast and other snacks in the room. The refrigerator and microwave were great! I can't wait for another trip to this wonderful spot!

  • Great Winter getaway..Beach life ways a treasure. Location is wonderful , Peaceful...

    Laura2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • The room was adorable and cozy, the fireplace was perfect, and the views out on the back porch were great. We had no issues getting access to our room after hours, and the suggestions by the staff for food/sights in the area were solid. Also, access to the Spa on the main property was a nice touch and made everything that much better. Definitely a great place for a night or two while visiting NorCal!

    Anthony2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at the Buckhorn Inn, which is 6 minutes south of Mendocino. You pick up the keys from the main office in Mendocino. Staff was very friendly and helpful! The room was clean, bed was comfy, and we had a nice view from the back porch area. We stayed just one night, and it was a great stopping point. We would definitely stay again!

    Kaitlin2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I had such a terrific time in Mendocino and our two-night stay at the Inn at Buckhorn Cove, a Sweetwater's sister property, was a phenomenal. From check-in to the free personalized parking space, to the cleanliness of the room, to the amenities offered inside our suite, to the proximity into town, and the best of all -- the view from our patio overlooking the ocean and the sunset. The Sunset Room was perfect for us. I was very impressed with the modern amenities, comfortable bed and bedding, new furniture, a very nice back patio to sit outside, and best of all -- quietness. We didn't hear anything next door, around us, and/or much traffic. All we heard were the sound of the ocean cool breeze and the peaceful waves. Kudos to Cody, Sarah, Ann and Hank for all the wonderful communications, assistance, and excellent customer experience. We shall definitely return to the Inn at Buckhorn Cove.

Adorable owner built cottage with custom open beam ceilings nestled in the forest adjacent to Jackson State Forest, providing endless trails for hiking and biking. Quiet country setting, yet conveniently located between Mendocino and Fort Bragg and minutes from the beach and either town, making this a perfect location to enjoy all of the Mendocino coast.
This 700 square foot cottage is located on 5 secluded acres and was designed and built entirely by the owners. The cottage includes many special touches such as open beamed ceilings milled with local redwood. The cottage has tons of natural light. A wood pellet stove provides cozy heat and ambiance with the push of a button. There are also electric heaters in the bedroom and bathroom for additional warmth. Unwind on the redwood deck with a Nespresso or enjoy a hot outdoor shower for two in the private shower area. We are very kid friendly. Let us know and we will get out our trikes and cars for your child. We also have a very friendly dog but she stays on our side of the property most of the time. We are also happy to provide recommendations for dining, beaches, trails or whatever else you are interested in seeing. Jackson State Forest is our next door neighbor. There is a trail that leads from the property into the forest and we will leave you a map. Located ten minutes north of Mendocino and ten minutes south of Fort Bragg and five minutes from what we think is the best beach in the area.
Adjacent to Jackson State Forest and miles of trails. The owners house is the only visible neighbor.
  • We always enjoy our visits to Brackenfern. The cottage is very comfortable and quiet. The location is tucked away in the trees, but very close to all points of interest. This time we made good use of the charcoal grill, oven & cooktop for preparing dinners and everything works well. Love the outdoor shower too!

    Rob2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Honestly 100% worth the stay. Had me and my wife looking for propertys in that same area after our stay. If you want to stay in and cook there is amazing range of cookware and spices. All you need is a quick run to the market. Very warm with the new gas heater and the claw foot rub was a favorite for the wife! My favorite was the outdoor shower at night! Honestly such a great way to spend our first anniversary.

    Brandon2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • My girlfriend and I had a lovely time at the cabin, such a relaxing and soul-feeding space. It was super quiet, warm enough (we both run cold), very clean, and quite comfortable. We loved being in the exact middle between Fort Bragg and Mendocino, and the privacy was invaluable. Highly recommend!

Sea Cloud is the perfect place to relax & renew. Our cottage nests cosily on a high bluff, with breathtaking panoramas of the ocean, at the junction of Anderson Valley wineries & the majestic coast. Sit on the deck, or take a soak in a hot tub under the stars. A short drive takes you to historic Mendocino village. My wife is a retired RN, so maintains high standards of cleanliness. A Zagat-rated restaurant is steps away! (Please note: Our price includes all taxes!)
A Lovely Get-Away PLEASE NOTE: Due to Mendocino County order we can't rent out during the month of May; June is so far looking like in-county only, but we don't know for sure. We'd hope to be back to normal by July. Sea Cloud is one of our two spectacular cliffside cottages (the other is Shangri-La). It's the perfect setting to celebrate Valentine's Day, a proposal, or a romantic honeymoon, or anniversary (maybe in that order!). Overlooking Whitesboro Cove, guests can sit on the deck gazing out on the Pacific Ocean that stretches as far as the eye can see; think long, lazy days, right up to a beautiful sunset. February, March and April are great times to set out along Mendocino County’s coast -- and stay in our cottage -- for great views of migrating whales spouting and displaying their flukes as they dive in search of krill. Mothers are with their calves closer to shore -- and guests have been spotting them! The cottage is an open-space guest house. Full bathroom, small cooking area. (see photos) (Also this cottage is also dog-friendly.) The weather is nearly always temperate, and each season has its attractions. Enjoy the light-filled contemporary cottage with amenities and details designed to make your stay comfortable and trouble-free. On the walls of Sea Cloud are photographs from films shot in the area, for movie productions have often been attracted to the area by its beauty and New England flavor. Guests can either eat in or dine in the steps-away Zagat-rated Ledford House restaurant (a local favorite since 1986). A few more footsteps will take you to the Albion village market, post office, and supply store. On Sundays, during spring and summer, guests can drop in on the Albion Farmer's Market, where you can purchase freshly grown local produce, jam, fruit, and artisanal products. Our Sea Cloud cottage is about 10 minutes drive south of lovely Mendocino village and 20 minutes south of historic Fort Bragg. In Mendocino, you’ll find world-class restaurants, art galleries, fine shopping, a pub, bookstores, toy stores, a museum, and more. In Ft. Bragg, you can explore the restored historic downtown, and stroll along the newly created cliffside promenades. There’s even a movie theater. Noyo Harbor has several restaurants featuring local catches. Farther north are more beaches and the quaint seaside village of Westport. To the south of Albion village is Navarro Beach and the picturesque hamlet of Elk. To the north are Little River and Big River beaches. Hiking trails abound in Van Damme and Russian Gulch State Parks; take a walk along Big River; canoe on Albion River; take a whale-watching trip, or ride the Skunk train. The area also provides swimming, ocean kayaking, tennis, and paddle-surfing. Heritage House restaurant and the Albion River Inn, both highly rated, are just across historic Albion bridge—both with spectacular views. The former also has nice walks on its tended grounds, with even a staircase to a hidden mini-beach. Guests can enjoy a great breakfast at Circa '62, where your four-legged canine friends are welcome. Last but not least the wonderful wineries of Anderson Valley are a short drive away on Highway 128, a lovely scenic road through redwood forests and the quaint towns of Philo and Boonville. There are several festivals in the area every year; the two most popular are: The Mendocino Film Festival (June) and The Mendocino Music Festival (July). Whatever the reason for your visit, you can expect to fall under the Northern California Pacific Coast spell (just like it happened to us!). Everyone is welcome to either of our cottages: Sea Cloud or Shangri-La. (and please don't forget: Our rates include all taxes -- all year round!) (Health-wise: Again, my wife is a retired nurse, and supervises the cleaning. Bedding is stripped down to the mattress cover and everything is cleaned, washed, and sanitized between guest visits, including blankets, covers, etc. Bathroom and all surfaces, doorknobs, etc., are also cleaned, scrubbed, sanitized. Also the coast is a low population density area.)
Local fine restaurants, grocery store, and post office, and several farmer's market. Nearby restaurants, beaches, hiking, and water activities.
  • This place is perfect for a quiet getaway. The views are simply amazing and cannot be beat!

  • Tiny, low-frills cottage with a spectacular ocean view. You can watch for whales while sitting in the hot tub. Great location near Mendocino, with several options for beach access within a 10-20 minute drive. Lots of shops and restaurants also nearby. Or you can just sit on the porch drinking wine and watching waves crash into the shore all day.

    Keegan2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! Wake up every morning to crashing ocean waves. Have a cup coffee sitting in the hot tub looking out at the most beautiful costal view of California. • Leah and Mike's bungalow was perfect! Leah and Mike are professional hosts who have thought of everything. There were so many thoughtful touches in the bungalow (board games, DVDs & streaming services, tea/coffee, snacks, and more). Communication was very clear and quick. Their backyard is huge and so relaxing for both toast and tea in the morning and for an evening by the fire pit. They also provided helpful recommendations for local hikes and restaurants. Location is great, a 4 minute drive from downtown Mendocino. Absolutely would love to stay in the bungalow again!

    Sarah2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Leah and Mike's place is beautiful, a great way to escape to nature while still being within close access to everything. We saw foxes and deer and many birds. Lots of beautiful art both inside and outside. Mike chopped up wood for a campfire on both nights of our stay which was really nice, and Lea's homemade jams made for a delicious breakfast. Highly recommended!

  • We can't say enough good things about our stay here....large, well furnished bungalow with all the necessary amenities. We loved the hot tub, where we viewed billions of stars. Coffee and homemade toast/ jam was a great breakfast starter. Bedding was cozy, and when the power was cut off to the region, Leah and Mike provided generator, candles, a cell phone, and good advice about the best route home. We would love to return here!!Thank you!!

  • The tree house is magical! The decor is beautifully rustic and the outdoor shower was such a treat. We rented it as a family and it was so perfect for us. Definitely need to come back on a couples retreat. It is super beautiful and such a romantic set up. We visited this last weekend and the wood burning stove kept the house so warm. This was a total treat. If you love the smell of the redwoods and enjoy beauty, this is the place for you. It felt very private and Erin was such a great host. Thank you! Can’t wait to come out again :)

  • what A beautiful and peaceful stay...the treehouse and all it’s amenities were better than described...great place to unwind and be with nature.

    Caroline2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! My boyfriend and I stayed here for the weekend and what a great place it is to recharge and unwind. Only 15ish minutes away from the downtown, but still nice and tucked away in the forest. The cooking amenities were great and the outdoor bathing area was so cool. The treehouse had some fun games and books to browse through. Would totally come back again to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

    Gabriela2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Was very nice! Will be returning. The outdoor tub was amazing!

    Jeremiah2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time at this cabin! It is a quiet, secluded space surrounded by redwoods and a ten minute drive to downtown Mendo. We enjoyed the incredible stars, peaceful environment, outdoor shower and tub and cozy inside space as well. There’s also an outdoor fire ring with plenty of firewood and tree swing! Highly recommend this place!

  • This was a peaceful and quiet escape for the weekend. Once you’re here, you don’t need to get in your car again if you’d prefer not to. Mendocino village, Mendocino Headlands State Park, and the beach are all walking distance. You can follow the river upstream for miles. Mendocino village has plenty of restaurants, cafes, and even a small market. We enjoyed a couple simple meals in and listened to the frogs out on the deck at night.

    Kelsey2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Just book it ... trust me. A truly magical place and gracious hosts. You won’t be disappointed.

  • What a great place! It's super magical, full of great touches that show how much the place means to Max and Caroline. This place is so relaxing, and just a perfect forest retreat. Very nourishing for the soul!

  • A cute, small place with a cabin feel but close to Mendocino Village. The setting is quiet and peaceful, with a view of trees. Has everything you need for a simple stay, inc. coffee, tea, apples from the tree in the backyard, a hot plate and water heater for basic cooking, and space heaters for those cold coastal nights. Max greeted me when I arrived and was very welcoming!

Spectacular sea views from this hilltop gem on 10 private acres. Nature, sea and seclusion yet only 1/2 a mile from beaches, hiking trails, store, dining, and golf course, and 2 miles from Mendocino. The private cottage is a secluded oasis. It sits alone, high above the sea, but close enough to hear waves crashing. Enjoy the peace of having NO ONE AROUND YOU—just whales migrating below, osprey and eagles soaring overhead. Sanitized to strict Airbnb standards & we ARE accepting reservations!
This rental is a sublime space situated on a private 10 acres, surrounded by 35 more, on which we live. No one else in this beautiful empty terrain but the deer, bobcat, foxes and birds. Ocean views abound. The cottage sits high on a hilltop but close enough to the sea for you to hear waves crashing below. Inside and out, you behold the sea in all directions, for miles and miles, and enjoy the peace of space and wilderness while you breathe in the sea air, watch whales, osprey and eagles --in utter tranquility. You can also enjoy the expansive views from inside, while curled up by the gas fireplace. This rental home is in the most primo and exclusive location on the Mendocino coast. On a private hilltop with wide vistas and no neighbors, yet a stone’s throw from beaches and other recreational activities, art, museums, shops, bars and eateries, everything Mendocino and Little River have to offer. You can walk to the golf course, the Little River store, Van Damme beach and state park, and the Little River Inn for breakfast, dinner or cocktails and, in a five-minute drive, arrive in downtown Mendocino. The house is large and airy. Although a studio, it is 670 square feet with sliding glass doors that open onto a huge wood deck, which leads to a lower deck of flagstone pavers, comprising over 1,000 square feet in decking. The house has all amenities, including a full kitchen with gas range, brand new memory foam mattress, Tempur pedic pillows, wool Pendleton blankets and cotton jersey sheets. Cotton robes are also provided so you can lounge by the fire on a cool evening. And, of course, we provide coffee, tea and all the necessary plates, glasses, cups, cookware and utensils. Outside, a new Weber barbecue, Blackstone griddle, second refrigerator with freezer, and on the bottom deck, a fire pit facing the ocean, encircled by wooden Adirondack chairs, so you can stay warm on a chilly coastal evening. But, really, it’s all about the view. you can see the waves crashing from everywhere inside the house and all outside lounging areas. The house, yard and decks are all gloriously private and serene. Beauty, space, and solitude. This is the real Mendocino. It doesn’t get any better than this.
Privacy privacy privacy. You are surrounded by wide open spaces. But you can walk to the Little River Inn and restaurant, golf course, store, and Van Damme State Beach and hiking trails. Also nearby is the Spring Ranch headlands Trail, from which you can access several hidden beaches.
  • Wow –– we had such an amazing stay with Jay. I'm not sure where to begin this review! From check in to check out, the experience was unparalleled. Not only was the space perfect (cozy, stylish, the perfect amount of space), but the view was unbeatable. Truly, I couldn't have dreamed up a better view. We watched whales breach every afternoon, grilled out on the patio and enjoyed many sunsets. Jay is also an incredible, kind + attentive host –– she offered many helpful recommendations and was always quick to respond. We will 1000% be back + I couldn't recommend staying here more. Our stay far exceeded 5 stars. If its available, book right away! :)

  • Gorgeous view of the coast, spacious deck, excellent hosts. Great for 2 people for a few days' break!

  • Behold the Sea is a well-provisioned cottage in a beautiful setting. The cottage has many amenities, from a large walk in shower with copious amounts of hot water to an outdoor grill on a spacious deck situated perfectly to watch the sun set over the ocean. Lots of reasons to put your feet up and never leave, but it is also well positioned to explore the ocean, beaches, redwoods and wine tasting. Jay is a considerate and responsive host who provided great suggestions on what to see and where to eat, all of which were spot-on. We had a fantastic trip and plan to return again some day.

    Megan2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful sanctuary getaway in Mendocino! Jay and Rob were there to help for anything we might need. The views are incredible and the new stove was great for making breakfast in the morning. We look forward to another visit!

  • This Airbnb was great! The perfect spot for our weekend up in the Mendocino area. The Airbnb itself is super neat with a cool historic feel as well as well kept! The location was beautiful and a great jumping off point to venture into Mendocino or even up to Fort Bragg. Very close to wonderful state parks like Van Damme. Would 100% come back and plan to!

  • I come here every year and always have a wonderful time. The setting is peaceful surrounded by a fruit orchard and close to the beach. My dog absolutely loves it here, the atmosphere is relaxing and the apartments are very charming. It's a quick drive away from great hiking trails, beaches and Mendocino downtown. Highly recommend this place! Bring your 4 legged buddy, they will love it!

  • Quaint and cozy.

  • Our room was so adorable and felt really private. There is a great spot for an outdoor fire which we decided against because it got too chilly but will plan a future visit and fire. The recommended beach nearby is really a great find, it’s so beautiful. I would recommend this place and will likely book again.

  • We were lucky enough to book this gem at the last minute for a weekend getaway. The property is beautiful, and the hosts have done a great job with it. There were clear instructions and suggestions - take the walk to the beach, you will not be disappointed! We went at sunrise and it was absolutely stunning. We loved the old victorian farmhouse vibe (pull chain toilet!). The bathroom was roomy, the bedroom was the perfect amount of space. Bed was a little creaky but we were wiped from our adventures so we didn’t mind too much. This will definitely be where we stay when we come back to Mendocino!

  • Martin's place is exactly how you'd imagine from the pictures. It's a quiet and tranquil. The sofa area and kitchen are open to one another with the restroom and bedroom towards the back. The kitchen has all the basics, a deep pot, pan, a bunch of cooking utensils, salt, pepper, sugar, tea bags. The bedroom is adequate for sleeping which leads to the balcony and hot tub. The hot tub isn't totally private or enclosed, but totally worth in my opinion! The communal grass area and fire pit is an awesome addition. Definitely will be coming back sometime soon. Thanks Martin

This unique cottage provides privacy, ocean views from the tower, a cozy courtyard and a private hot tub hidden in the base of the old redwood tower — perfect for the romantic getaway or relaxing solitude.
  • The Water Tower Villa was absolutely AMAZING!!! One of the dog friendliest places I've ever stayed at and we will definitely be back. Breathtaking sunsets on the tower and the hot tub was a perfect way to end a day of hiking. They even spoiled my Saint Bernard with a dog bed, treats and toys. Hobbes gives this place 5 stars!!!

    Jason2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • The hot tub and fire place were great to have. We enjoyed going on top of the tower in the evenings and early morning, but it felt more exposed when the sun was up. The space is small, but worked out great for us. The fenced in area is perfect for containing our dog too.

    Andrew2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Super cute cottage with an ocean view! We enjoyed the hot tub while listening to the waves crash and buoy bells sing. We appreciated the thoughtful touches to welcome us and appreciated that our dog was also welcomed. The inn's staff provided great local food suggestions and were very accomodating to us and our dog (who got her picture added to the Dog Wall of Fame!) We would definitely stay again!

    Jen2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Exceptionally friendly host for you and your dog. After seeing we had our dogs with us they put doggy beds and treats for them in the room. I would highly recommend this place for all who want a great place to stay near the Mendocino coast.

  • Martin's property is an absolutely adorable B&B a short drive to downtown "Mendo" as they called it. Both Martin and the staff that greeted us were immensely helpful and kind and we immediately felt at home during our stay. Our dog loved it too! Plenty of space to run around :) Hope to return someday!

    Katie2019-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at the Water Tower cottage with our small corgi. It was a perfect romantic getaway. You have access to a private hot tub and deck overlooking the ocean. Also, this cottage is enclosed with a privacy fence, so we were able to let our dog off leash with peace of mind. The room is cozy and comes with nice touches of hospitality. Loved it! Would come back again in a heartbeat if we lived closer.

This charming 400 sq. ft. cabin is in the sunbelt close to Mendocino Village. Tucked in the redwoods, it sits on a 20-acre property, with kitchen, fold-out couch in the front room, bedroom (with new mattress),shower & bathroom. Down the road, you can hike or bike alongside Big River, where sea lions, birds & other wildlife are plentiful. Star-gaze and toast marshmallows as you stay toasty by the fire pit. Enjoy a morning Nesspresso with frothed cream while listening to the sounds of nature.
We know the area well, so feel free to ask us for tips on anything that comes to mind, whether it's an activity you're interested in, where to eat or upcoming local events. Or just take it easy in the quiet comfort of our secluded property. In the armoire we provide a pack and play for your little one. The new queen mattress is a Craftmatic. There are instructions if you want to raise the head or foot side of the bed. After self checking in, please feel free to roam around our property. There are pathways leading through the gardens (designed by Gary Ratway, who also designed the Botanical Gardens in Fort Bragg), and a pond with chairs if you want to relax outside. We just added a 2-person hammock by the fire pit, so you can enjoy a daytime nap or nighttime stargazing. Don’t forget to enjoy making and of course EATING s’mores (ingredients supplied in cabin). On the healthy side, you can pick some lettuce, herbs & apples in the vegetable garden. The tap water is all purified well water and excellent for drinking. Wi-Fi is spotty and there’s no cell service unless you have Verizon. (Some other carriers work here, but definitely not AT&T.)
All properties in our area are between 5 and 20 acres, so there's plenty of peace and privacy. Five of our 20 acres are fenced in, so you can roam the grounds without getting lost in the woods!
  • This space was so cute and exactly what my partner and I needed. It was so thoughtfully decorated and packed with awesome amenities. I loved the book selection. The sheets were super soft and nothing beats waking up surrounded by redwoods. We didn't meet Tracy, but Bart was a very friendly and helpful host. 10/10 would recommend!

    Virginia2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Tracy and Bart’s cabin. It is easy to find if you follow their specific directions. it was a good home base for our Mendocino adventures. Loved the fire pit and s’mores.

  • We loved staying at Tracy and Bart's place! The cabin is super cute, clean, and cozy. It's very private and only a few minutes away from downtown Mendocino. Tracy and Bart were excellent in communicating with us and made sure all of our needs were met. They even provided great recommendations for restaurants, hikes, and local attractions. When we return to Mendocino in the future (hopefully sooner than later!), we'll definitely be staying at Tracy and Bart's place.

    Megan2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Only a few miles from Mendocino, the Quaint Cabin was in a perfect location surrounded by redwoods and garden area. The well-equipped cabin is in a very quiet, peaceful setting. It was great that we could easily access local coastal trails, restaurants, and beach walks, while having a cozy cabin to return home to. Thanks Tracy and Bart for your rustic but comfortable cabin tucked in the redwoods. We will return!
