  • A lovely caravan in a very remote setting - perfect if you want to get away from it all. Lindsey are family were very welcoming, and daughter Megan even helped us by babysitting for the newborn. Very comfortable stay, quiet and peaceful. The wildlife around the farm and the forest was amazing perfect for our toddler, and Lindsey's family were so welcoming and accommodating, showing us their birds and pigs. They rescued an Owl while we were there so we got to meet him too. Just perfect. I did quite a few midgey bites! But that's to be expected when you're so close to a pine forest. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to get away from it all. Fantastic hosts.

  • Perfect little spot in Wales. Quiet, scenic, the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle from the city. Lindsey was very welcoming and went out of her way to make us feel welcome. This is also a dream spot for animal lovers! Had a lovely time:)

    Sian2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Lindsey's caravan and the whole experience of staying there was even better than I expected it to be. The facilities in the caravan itself surpassed my expectations. The water was lovely and hot and with great pressure, the toilet was like one you'd expect in a house and the beds and sofas very comfortable. The kitchen comes well equipped and an excellent heater and candles are also provided for cosy evenings. Lindsey welcomed us with a tour around the outdoor area where we met two emus, two pigs, two dogs, two geese, lots of ducks and chickens (and chicks!) and a horse, all pets. This was one of the reasons we were keen to visit and the animals were all very friendly and enjoyed the attention. Lindsey provided detailed instructions on how to locate the caravan and we had no problem getting there. I would say that we found internet connection impossible, great if you wanted to switch off from it all (like we did) but something to bear in mind. Lindsey was a lovely host who was always on hand if we needed anything but overall left us to our own devices, i.e. to play with her animals.

    Carla2016-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Lindsey is a great host and the off the grid mobile home if a little dated has everything provided and is extremely comfortable with lovely linen and towels provided. The added extras of dvd, fridge etc are very good. The shower is hard to work but did'nt bother us and we were told about it also the lack of power is not an issue as you can charge up your phone etc no problem. We did find the drive up long and rough for the last few km as stated . The mobile was in the shade a lot and the double and the outside area was not too inviting for sitting out, but we did roast marchmallows at the firepit by the tents which was a nicer area. While there was opportunities to walk in the nearby forest we found them to be very similar and as we travelled to 2 other locations after can say there is lots of wonderful woodland walking in Wales to explore but if you are looking to get away completely from civilization in a remote location with lots of animals then this is the place for you.

    Jean2017-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • The kids absolutely loved being surrounded by nature and the animals! A beautiful remote spot that reminds you what life is all about! it was nice using candles and being off grid!

    Naomi2017-04-19T00:00:00Z
  • Tucked away in a fairytale forest this is a wonderful place to stay. The caravan is spacious, clean and exactly as described and very well equipped. The kids adored all the animals (esp Mr Hogley and the 'grumpy' pony) and the collection of birds of prey is exceptional. The hosts couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming. Beautiful Lake Bala is nearby and we had a great time canoeing. There are a number of easy tracks for hiking in the immediate vicinity. My favourite thing? Evenings by the fire pit.

    Sigrid2016-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • I was very excited to stay here after seeing how different and wild the place looked, it was even better than i imagined! Me,my husband and two young boys absolutely loved this place! Lindsey and her husband are such lovely, welcoming and friendly people who want you to have the best stay possible. There is so much to see and do, we loved the forest and animals. For a family looking to live off grid and be together away from everyday distractions it's perfect! We were all so sad to leave and i really cannot wait to come back again!

  • We had a lovely time at Lowri's place, very cosy, clean and comfortable with. Situated in a pretty little village.

    Becca2017-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely weekend away and were really lucky with the weather! The cottage is really modern and well looked after. The check in and directions were clear. Lowri wasn't there when we arrived, but called to check we got in ok. Lowri also arranged a high chair and offered a cot bed for our little boy. The Peppa pig chocolates went down well with him too. Lowri also suggested a local event at the train station that was suitable for our son which was very thoughtful. We did find the cottage a little chilly, but the wood burner helped us warm up in the evenings. We ate at the pub a few mins walk down the road on the first night which was really nice. They were very accommodating to our 16month boy too.

    Ellie2017-03-27T00:00:00Z
  • A clean, cozy retreat in a lovely little village surrounded by open countryside. The cottage is fully equipped and nicely presented. Lowri was very helpful in the lead-up to our stay and made us feel very welcome. There is no WiFi at the cottage (which is clear from the details when booking) but phone signal is hit & miss so if you need to be connected to the internet make sure you make alternative arrangements.

  • We loved our stay here - the house is lovely and cosy and really nicely decorated. Would highly recommend and would stay here again!!

  • Great cottage in a perfect location for walks and with a local pub only a short walk away! Really cosy and clean! A perfect getaway for couples.

    Rebecca2017-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • Lowri's cottage is perfect for small families for short trip to Snowdonia. The location is quite right being very close to Bala station, Bala lake and market place in Bala town. The cottage is nicely decorated. Lowri was a perfect host, at the check-in the fire was lit, cottage was quite warm. I highly recommend Lowri's cottage.

    Manish2017-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • Lowri's cottage is absolutely delightful. The location was perfect as wanted a quiet, scenic getaway over Easter, and Llanuwchllyn provides just that. The nearby Bala is also lovely for browsing the shops or eating out. With the heaters and fire the cottage is nice and cosy and was immaculate upon arrival. The kitchen is well-equipped and there was even a jar of hot cross buns and a chocolate bunny waiting for us! Check in was smooth as Lowri provided us with detailed instructions on how to find both the cottage and the key, and she had lit the fire and the heaters earlier in the afternoon so the cottage was nice and warm for us. All in all a 5* place to stay, thank you so much for everything :)

The cottage is at the edge of Llanuchwyllyn across the road from the Aran Ridge path and next to a river where the water runs down over rocks. This is a country cottage comfortable and practical but not claiming to be luxurious. There are two grassed areas and decking overlooking the river with wonderful views. The bathroom and toilet are upstairs in the property, there is a well equipped kitchen and there is a shower over the bath
  • Smashing holiday! The cottage is warm and comfy, the beds and linen are really comfortable - ample space for 6 of us (2 adults 3 kids 1 baby)! The driveway is narrow and steep but short with a large parking bay, as Peter suggests, make a u-turn up the road and approach it from Bala and it's no issue, we managed very happily with our VW T4 minibus - one of us stood in the road when driving out so no dodgy hill starts needed - it is Wales after all! WiFi was a really good hit, both for the kids and for route planning before adventures. The pub shop in the village is quirky and very handy -- good for essentials, and a good size co-op in Bala. Walks to the Aran mountains are easily accessed a short walk from the cottage, smashing views and much quieter than further north and equally beautiful - the mountain roads were truly amazing, if a little terrifying in places but lots of fun to explore, there is A LOT on the doorstep, no need to travel far from home. Our boys loved taking their dingy on Bala lake. The dog room was very handy for kicking off wet gear and not worrying about getting mud on the floor, the cottage is not luxurious, it's practical, and a perfect base. With small children we did of course have to keep a close eye on them, but that is true of all places where you take children. The top garden is on a slope, our kids enjoyed roly-polying down it, obviously there are some areas which overlook the river, just be sensible and supervise your kids. The kids loved their rooms and the toys in the cupboard were great little bordem busters in the evening. Peter was very friendly and very helpful, he is a lovely host and we will happily return again, for longer! A practical, no frills base in a smashing location :).

  • We all thought this property was perfect for all the family because of the locality (ie the train, the river and village) and facilities in the house, also we loved the fire and the stunning views from every window. - Ben, Lucy, Eddie and James We will be back again!!

  • This is a very scenic and convenient position for a cottage in Snowdonia. To the side is a stonebridge and waterfall on the river. To the front the hills are visible and in the medium distance over fields is the delighted Bala Lake Steam Railway. The cottage is well set up and is family friendly. We always look for a good shower and this was very good. In all an excellent base.

  • The house was huge, comfortable, well-appointed, and a wonderfully relaxing spot to stay at the end of a whirlwind trip. The kitchen is well-equipped, the lounge is exceedingly comfortable, and the bedrooms were spacious and cozy. Having a dedicated washer AND dryer allowed us to head back with no dirty clothes, which seems small, but is a wonderful luxury. Geraint stopped by after we got in and was very friendly and helpful.

    Topher2016-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • The most perfect weekend stay. The cottage is stunning and enormous! It had everything we needed and was so comfy and welcoming. Loved the fact all the bedrooms were ensuite, only thing was the downstairs room was a twin and not a double as in the description (this may be due to Geraint not realising there was 4 of us though). The cottage is really modern but still kept its character, honestly had the best time, I think this will be one of our favourite airbnb properties, can't wait to return! Thanks to Geraint for letting us stay :-)

    Fiona2016-11-20T00:00:00Z
  • Geraint is a super friendly host with great local knowledge and a simply perfect house. The place is comfortable, warm (I can't impress how important this is in winter there enough!) and really nicely decorated. I think some of the guests already miss how comfortable the beds are. Would/will stay there again in a heartbeat. It will be staying in my favourites. Big recommendation.

  • Talybont is a fantastic house, very well equipped and furnished to a very high standard. It's also extremely well located. We walked the full length of the Aran's ridge from the south and finished by walking directly to the house. Thanks Geraint we had a great weekend.

    Richard2017-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • We came back to Geraint's place because we have enjoyed it so much. We finally met Geraint and enjoyed talking to him. He even got as a lamb for dinner. We can just recommend this place for hiking, relaxing and enjoying the beautiful area in Snowdonia. See you next time again!

    Martin2016-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely location in Snowdonia near Bala and a great cottage for family holiday. Thanks to Geraint, who was very helpful in everything we required. Will definitely visit this place again for a peaceful vacation as it was this time.

Cosy, character cottage in Snowdonia National Park near Bala Lake.
Golan is a perfect getaway for couples, friends or a small family really looking to getaway from it all and relax. After a days activities, there is a log fire to keep you warm in winter, and a lovely outside space to enjoy in summer. In the living area, there is a large comfy sofa perfect for snuggling in front of the fire, a small dining area and a flat screen television, free wi-fi, board games for when the weather takes a turn for the worse. The cottage retains its charm and character with glimpses of exposed beams throughout and its original stone floor. We have a fully equipped kitchen and provide essential larder items to take the hassle out of your stay. Guests have access to all areas of the cottage and the garden. Golan is a dog friendly cottage and should you bring any four legged friends you can be rest assured that our garden is fully secure and we provide a bed & bowls. We are available to answer any questions during your stay but we will not be on site at anytime unless there is a problem. The village is quiet and peaceful and is surrounded by the beautiful, rolling welsh hills. The view from the top of the hill at the village over Bala Lake is truly breathtaking and only a couple of minutes walk from the cottage. Also within walking distance there is a great pub serving traditional Welsh food to which you can also take dogs inside and there's the Bala lake steam railway which offers a 9 mile return journey to Bala tracking Lake Tegid (Bala Lake). The views are spectacular and not to be missed. Due to the secluded nature of the village, to fully enjoy the surrounding areas a car would be advised. There is on road parking directly opposite the property. Should you wish to leave the car at home during your stay there is a local bus that runs regularly encompassing all the villages from Wrexham to Barmouth beach, including Bala. The bus stop is less than a minute from the cottage and we keep a timetable in our property guide for your convenience. In the property we have a guide to help you explore the best the area has to offer. If you have any questions about the property or area, please do not hesitate to contact us.

  • kelly has been really fab in giving us various additional precise info and maps for us to find the cottage. we have found a very clean, very warm cottage with a very confy bed and well equipped kitchen. and a nice big tv for that rainy day...perfect base to explore swondonia!

    lucia2015-06-05T00:00:00Z
  • Well located cottage, very close to Bala lake and reasonably close to Snowdon. Kelly had left us a welcome note and local information. The cottage itself has a nice feel and was clean and well equipped. I would certainly come come again. Thank you.

    Edward2015-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is in a really nice, sleepy village and very close to a small town for food shopping. The lounge was cosy and warm with a really nice functioning fireplace. The bedrooms were average sized and the bathroom big and bright. Overall, the property is worth staying in if you're planning to spend a few days in Snowdonia.

    Kimberley 2016-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Kelly was very helpful even before we arrived, and responded quickly to my extra queries about weather and road conditions. The cottage was accurately described on Airbnb and was very comfortable and well located in the centre of the village, with most basic needs supplied and plenty of information on local attractions. It provided a lovely country break with beautiful scenery. The local pub has nice food and only a short walk from the cottage and Bala Lake railway is also close by.

  • Cottage was lovely, neighbourhood quiet and friendly. Although we didn't meet Kelly, Kelly's communications were accurate and timely. The welcome message and cake made us feel very welcome . Would recommend to anyone

  • The fresh chocolate chip muffins were a lovely touch and made us feel right at home after a long journey from London. The place was spotless and very cozy - a true Welsh cottage experience and exactly what we were hoping for. We had a 5-star AirBnB experience at Kelly's place, and actually did not meet Kelly at all! This speaks to how well prepared Kelly's place is for everything. She provided absolutely everything we needed for a 4-day long stay. Thanks Kelly!

    Mike2016-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • A very pleasant stay in Kelly's house which is a perfect place to discover Snowdonia and the places around. The house is nice and comfortable. We received all the information we needed very rapidly from Kelly. It helps when you come from abroad and when you stay for a short period only. We loved the welcome cookies. And we loved the country !

    Sylvane2015-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay at Kelly's cottage. We found it to be well located for the touring we wanted to do. We were a short drive to Gala where shopping was available. The cottage itself is cute and well maintained. We were two couples and found that it worked well for us. The location is picturesque and gave us a real flavour for Wales. We would stay there again in an instant.

A cosy end of terrace cottage in a tranquil village close to Bala Lake. Log burner, fully equipped kitchen, outside parking. Garden at rear looking onto the Aran mountain. Only steps away from the popular local pub, 5 miles from Bala where there's plenty of shops and restaurants. Fun outdoor activities on offer locally, but also an amazing spot to relax. 30 mins drive to the beach. We look forward to welcoming you to our part of the world!
  • The cottage is lovely, very quaint and cosy and ideally situated for the lake and walks around the hills. It was immaculately clean and very well equipped. Although we didn't use it, the log burner is a lovely feature. The beds are comfy and we had a very quiet and restful nights sleep. The garden is a bonus and a real sun trap making it a lovely place to sit and relax. Right across the road is a local pub which serves good hearty food and also contains a little convenience store which is handy for your essentials. The lake train is only a short walk down the road. I only met Anna briefly but she was lovely and very welcoming. Her communication is great and she is very quick to respond. A very good host with a lovely home! Would definitely recommend!

  • Anna was a very nice host. Even though we arrived late, she welcomed us with a big smile :). The house is very cosy, well equipped (best equipped airbnb kitchen I've seen so far!). Also, I fell in love with the decoration of the house, I might need Anna's advise when I decorate my own place :) The surroundings of the house is beautiful, and the pub across the street is very handy ;). Thank you Anna, we felt like home.

    Agnieszka2017-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Anna's little cottage was adorable in all the pictures online, but even more wonderful in person! Our entire family (me and my husband and our three girls ages 6,3, and 1) thoroughly enjoyed relaxing by the wood burner each night after a wonderful day of exploring the area. The kitchen was suited with everything we could have wanted or needed in order to cook meals there, but on nights where we didn't want to fuss over the cooking we walked two doors down to the local pub for some wonderful local Welsh dishes and a hearty, warm environment. One evening we even met her neighbors there, who were wonderfully pleasant people as well. Anna went above and beyond to really make this place baby-friendly for us by including a high chair, a crib, a baby gate, and even some plastic dishes for the children to utilize. This location became a perfect hub for exploring Northern Wales. We visited several waterfalls, went to the coast a few different times in various locations, and even hiked up Moel Emoel right there locally. Honestly, our favorite times were spent simply being around Bala lake, throwing stones in the water with the little ones or watching the clouds roll by. After being out all day we'd come home and my girls have never slept so good---not even at home! The beds are extremely comfortable---you won't want to crawl out of them each morning! Anna was such a gracious host to us, especially in her communication towards us. Being that it was our first time utilizing airbnb we were a bit nervous, but she put us all at edge with her friendly tone and gestures---leaving us some Welsh tea and cakes! MMMM! We had a long trip and weren't certain of our arrival time, but Anna was very flexible, and when we weren't able to communicate with her as planned, due to having no signal through the mountain pass, she didn't seem out of sorts. We even arrived much later due to car issues, and she was nice enough to recommend a local mechanic for us. She checked in on us, but gave us all the space we needed to just 'do our thing' with our little family. Again, we'd love to return to this place over and over again! We love the home she has made here and Bala Lake has won a special place in our hearts. This entire area is completely underestimated. You'll be blown away by the beauty surrounding you!

  • Anna and her friend are really nice people, and they have a very cosy home. You feel welcome. Snowdonia is very nice for mountain walking and this house is a good place to return to after a hike. There was no problem using the washing machine and dryer, which was very nice because we had some rain there.

    Esther2017-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful 2 bed cottage in a lovely little village. Perfect for a base for a holiday. Lots to do in the area and the cottage is a true home from home. Cosy and we loved the log burner. And the local pub/local shop was friendly and surprisingly busy too. (And dog friendly too). The cottage had absolutely everything you will need - in a word...perfect.

    Jo2017-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Anna's home! It was clean, cosy and in an ideal location. Anna was a great host and was easily contactable throughout our stay. The house had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The pub across the road made it a good spot for unwinding after a day of wondering around different parts of snowdonia. We would definitely recommend Anna's place to anyone looking for a home away from home, in a beautiful part of Wales!

  • Thanks for a lovely weekend Linsdsey, the area is beautiful, the set up there is perfect and everything we needed was thought of. The animals were lots of fun too :)

    Caitlin2016-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • Most comfortable way of camping in a tent! Lindsey had prepared with comfortable mattresses and an awesome fluffy duvet, perfect since it was a bit chilly. The camper cooking stove and necessary kitchen utensils were all there, and Lindsey gave us a warm welcome, showing us the emu and cute mini pig. On the spot were also another two companies of Airbnbers, with which we had a nice chit chat around the campfire (beware of mosquitos and midges!)

    Sofia2016-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • The hosts were very friendly and helpful, with very friendly pets - from the dogs through to the chatty pigs and birds. A great place with so much to see and do, we didn't realise there was so much that far into the forest. The tents were well set up with everything we need. The directions to the farm were perfect. I would advise anyone staying to make sure walking boots or wellys are taken, since it is a farm and for the walking as well. This was a great reminder of how much we miss camping, so for this reason really glad we did the weekend where everything was set up for us. Simply a great weekend.

    Vicki2017-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • If you are used to camping and want to get off grid and into the forest for a couple of nights with added bonus of interesting animals and no setting up/taking down tents then this is for you! There are midges in the evening as you would expect and washing (self) facilities are minimal - but other than that you have all you need, even a camp fire. The hosts are lovely and introduced us to their extended family of pigs, birds of prey, dogs and ducks. Really enjoyable.

    Gwyneth2017-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay. The tent was nicely prepared and very comfortable. The weather wasn't perfect so the grounds were pretty soggy - don't forget your wellies. The drive from Llangower to the camp site was longer than we expected, due to the road conditions. Make sure you go slow enough, then it's OK

    Stephen2017-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • We would like to thank you for a lovely and welcoming stay. We loved your place and looking forward to returning to see how your silver foxes are getting on!!

  • Lindsey's place is like from a fairytale. It is a perfect retreat for people that want to enjoy nature. It is an about hours drive from the starting of all trails to Mount Snodon, but there are plenty of other trails you could do that are close by. We will definitely come back to Lindsey's place!!!

A delightful Victorian house with stunning views across Bala Lake to the mountains beyond. The beautifully appointed bedroom (Arenig) has a four-poster bed and ensuite with a power shower and a spa bath. Tea and cake on arrival, homemade biscuits in room. Delicious breakfasts cooked to order; with award-winning marmalade, honey from our bees, home-made granola, waffles, omelettes and local sausages and home-cured bacon. A wonderful place for relaxing. Situated within Snowdonia National Park.
  • Beautiful home, amazing hosts and fantastic honey! A true joy and will definitely return.

    Daniel2017-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • This place is absolutely stunning, perfectly located and beautiful attention to detail on decor and style. In addition to this, the hosts Katrina and Peter are friendly, welcoming and very attentive. The guest sitting room with honesty bar was a highlight of our stay as was the fantastic walk that we took on the advice of Katrina who provided detailed directions and a great recommendation for a cafe along the way. Breakfast was top notch. The home made granola was really special and Peter's honey was delicious. We had an incredibly enjoyable, relaxing weekend. Absolutely nothing to fault and I am sure we will visit again.

    Rick2017-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • Myself and my boyfriend chose this place as we love Snowdonia and wanted a sneaky weekend away that wouldn't hurt the purse strings to much. We were so pleased! This place is totally gorgeous with amazing views and hosts that welcome you like old friends. The rooms are stunning and spotless and the breakfast is to die for. Bala is a nice little village but we did spend most of our time exploring the mountain roads which have breath taking views. Think we took over 100 pics! Can not praise this BnB enough and we will definitely be back in the future.

Get away from it all in this remote cottage on the Welsh moors. It is a much loved family holiday home with no TV, wireless or any other modern distraction! Beautiful views of hills, farmland and mist rolling off the lake below. It is a perfect place to unwind and reconnect with all that's important.
Traditional whitewashed stone cottage with slate roof in the middle of farmland, high up over Bala Lake (Lyn Tegid). The cottage is quite basic, but would make a great base if you're looking for peace and tranquility. The living room features a wood-burning stove with additional radiators for cold weather. There’s a large kitchen with washing machine and tumble dryer, microwave, toaster, electric stove, slow-cooker, kettle and plenty of basic cooking utensils. The bathroom is being refurbished in late November to include bath shower. The master bedroom is very large with fantastic views and a fabulous desk/work space. Also plenty of room for cot. The bunkroom is quite small but has a little desk, and the third bedroom has two single beds. Until Summer 2017 the cottage has only been used for close friends and family, and certainly retains that feel. There are books, toys, plenty of wellies, and the basics for cooking. The track to the cottage is across two fields, and there is parking space for up to three vehicles at the top. However the field is shared with cows and sheep, who may nuzzle your car!
Amazing views of the mist rising over the hills in the morning and not another building in sight (except in far distance). Occasional hikers and farmer will pass in front of the house. It is well positioned for some of the best cycling in the country, fantastic walking straight from the front door, and canoeing and other water sports on Bala lake. The town with quaint shops, beautiful leisure centre and free wireless in the White Bear hotel, eco-cafe and other places is within minutes drive. Also easy day trips to climb Snowdon, visit Harlech castle and beach, Portmerion and the coast, Surf Snowdonia, White Water rafting and much more.
  • This was such a memorable three nights, I didn't want to leave. The amenities in the house were good. Beautiful surroundings, the lakefront walk is magical. Highly recommended for a charming getaway!

    Andrew2017-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Remote and beautiful cottage with spectacular views. Close to lake Bala and some good mountain biking nearby which we took advantage of. We will be back,

    Sam2017-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic stay at this cosy cottage! The location is beautiful -scenic and quiet (you will probably need a car to get there and one than can cross a couple of fields), but still quite close to Bala town. The cottage is great, has everything you need and feels very homey. Emma was very easy to communicate with and was quick to answer any questions we had. We used the place as a base for exploring Snowdonia and it was very well suited for that purpose. I can only recommend Emma's place!

    Nynne2017-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • A romantic, rustic experience. The property is isolated (in a good way), surrounded by sheep and cows. The perfect antidote to a hectic city life. There's lots of scope for walking and other outdoor activities locally. We will never forget the weekend we stayed at this Welsh cottage.

    Mark2017-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • This place is so special I'm almost loathe to eulogise about it too much in case it gets booked up more in future!. Even though it sleeps six, we went as a couple, a bit stressed out with various stuff going on, we desperately needed a relaxing, peaceful, chilled out few days to completely unwind and that's exactly what this break gave us. The first view of the house across the fields tells you everything - remote, beautiful setting, peaceful, views of rolling hills out front, not another building in sight, it really is a place to relax, sleep, unwind, read, and walk from. We were a tiny bit nervous about the 'no TV, wifi, and occasional mobile signal' but actually that was one of the best things about it. We had no choice but to slow down/switch off. We spent a lot of time on the front 'terrace' gazing at the views, landscape, and the changing skies. The cottage is cosy, welcoming, well stocked with decent kitchen utensils, plates, dishes etc (we did lots of cooking in the huge kitchen), the duvets/bedding are good quality, the bed was extremely comfortable and I don't think I've ever slept anywhere so utterly quiet. The track up to the house is just that - a track, so may be tricky in the winter and/or if very wet, but it was fine for our little car despite some rain while we were there. The bathroom is basic but clean, and if you're like us and prefer a long hot soak to a shower it won't be a problem. It's only a 10 minute drive to Bala (including opening and closing two gates) which has a good choice of shops, pubs, and one excellent local/craft beer shop. We opted for staying in the cottage in the evenings with the wood-burning stove, pleased that the rather cool August weather gave us an excuse to keep it going all evening. You can get to the coast in less than an hour - Barmouth is particularly fab - and about the same to get to the peaks of Northern Snowdonia (Tryfan etc), there are also more local walks you can do, some straight from the house if you'd rather stay nearby. Communication with Kate and Emma was timely, friendly and helpful - to be honest I just can't fault the whole experience and we can't wait to go back. One thing worth mentioning, maybe not so suitable for elderly people, with the 'off road' track/gates, and the open spiral stairs (which I know my own parents might struggle with), but otherwise great for anyone, especially those who, like us, place character and charm above 'all mod cons' when looking for a place to stay. A wonderful break which we will look back on with fond memories and hope to repeat.

    Angela2017-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay well off the beaten track. Close to white water centre and snowdon.

    Mike2017-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice traditional cottage in the middle of the countryside, nice surprise in the garden with swings. Basic amenities, not much of a shower and no microwave, no TV or Wifi but this helped to encourage family to talk and interact instead of mindless watching, lots of puzzles and books available. Cows loved our bright blue Touran gave it a hug.

    Rupia2017-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • A unique and lovely place to stay. The location among fields with beautiful views all around is wonderfully secluded and peaceful, but only a few minutes drive into Bala where there are shops, pubs etc and the beautiful lake. The cottage is homely and cosy with everything to hand. The beds were so comfortable and we loved the wood burner. The cottage has lots of character and has the feeling of a well loved family holiday home. We went on plenty of walks, some from the front door, and others within a short drive - torrent walk and precipice walk both manageable with small children. Also visited Harlech castle and beach, Barmouth beach. Such a beautiful part of Wales. We hope to come back. Thank you!

We are situated in a secluded quiet area with spectacular views over the Arenig mountain and the Aran mountain range. There is a wide range of wildlife and you can often see Red Kites, Buzzards and Curlews. We are about 3-4 miles from Bala lake and town. Beaches at Harlech and Barmouth are both approximately an hour away and we are only 50 minutes from Snowdon. The increasingly popular Zip wire at Blaenau Festiniog is approx. half an hour away We are a working smallholding and guests have been known to take a turn in bottle feeding pet lambs. We also have horses and keep Saddleback pigs and occasionally have a litter of piglets for guests to see.
  • Rachael and Rhys are excellent hosts, providing everything that we needed including some great restaurant recommendations and advice on walking up Snowdon. The house is in a beautiful, remote yet accessible location (easily found with Rachael's directions). The room was clean and comfortable, the breakfast was delicious and we were pleased to meet three young lambs that Rachael and Rhys are raising, under the ever-watchful eye of sheepdog, Meg. We visited Zip World at Blaenau Ffestiniog, which is only a 20 minute drive along beautiful, scenic mountain roads before driving on to Betws-y-coed and Llanberis (about an hours drive from Rachael's place). North Wales is full of beautiful walks, drives, steam railways, castles, lakes and more. Most of these are within an hours drive of Rachael's B&B. It really is a great place to visit.

    Andrew2017-04-29T00:00:00Z
  • Comunication with Rachael was easy and quick from the beginning, the room is nice, clean and comfy and the breakfast nice and abundant. The house is located in a beautiful area, we definetely raccomend Rachael's place!

  • Rachael and Rhys were excellent hosts, interesting, interested and accommodating. The rooms were spotless and tastefully decorated in keeping with the setting. Breakfast was very generous and well received. The location is rural and peaceful, ideal for getting away and relaxing in the area. A good base for exploring Snowdonia and only a few miles from shops and places to eat. Highly recommended on all counts.

  • This house is absolutely beautiful and in a stunning location! The room was spacious, clean and had a beautiful view of the fields. Breakfast was tasty (thanks Rhys!) and it was a lovely stay! Highly recommend this place - book it now! We will certainly be going back to stay

  • Rachael was a great host. Very accommodating and helpful. We arrived incredibly late but Rachael didn't mind and made sure we knew exactly how to get in etc. The room was spacious and comfortable. The shortbread biscuits were a lovely touch. Breakfast was very good. Our stay was brief but still lovely. The location is perfect for zipworld but it's also surrounded in lovely scenery. We will be back!

Welcome to the historic Grade 2* listed Old Workhouse B&B in Bala, in the Snowdonia National Park. We hope you will visit us to enjoy this beautiful area and the fantastic activities available in Snowdonia, from mountain walking and climbing, sailing, zip wires, white water rafting - even surfing. We are in the centre of Bala where pubs, restaurants and traditional cafes - and a cinema - are a short stroll away, but we are in a quiet courtyard setting and only five minutes from the lake.
This newly renovated room is perfect for couples, or just friends, to come and enjoy the beautiful countryside, with a comfortable stay in a historic setting. We love cooking and will provide you with a great breakfast to set you up for the day's activities. With a little notice we will try to cater for any dietary requests you may have. Where possible our food is locally sourced and the bread and jams are home-made. Eggs come straight from a local farm, and bacon and sausages are from the local butcher on the High Street.
Bala is a thriving market town with a good choice of pubs, restaurants and cafes, as well as many artisan businesses, all within a short stroll from the workhouse. The town sits at the end of Lake Bala (Llyn Tegid), the largest natural lake in Wales and one of the most beautiful settings anywhere.
  • Wow is the best way to describe everything about this place. What a little gem we have found. Your first impression of the building is breath taking and the inside has been sympathetically renovated with a mix of rustic and modern. It is spotlessly clean and with hosts that can not do enough for you, this is one B & B that you must visit if in Bala or North Wales area . I highly recommend you pay Ian and Georgina a visit

    Leanne2017-10-29T00:00:00Z

Car parking very easy. Lots of info given by Ian / Georgina on local area. Room was gorgeous with everything needed inc tea / coffee and fresh water. And a great breakfast too! Thank you :)

  • Great hosts who went that extra mile. Super breakfast provided with local produce. Ian also included a celebratory bottle of plonk to toast my sons birthday. I would definitely recommend this b&b to anyone wishing to stay in the bala lake area.

  • Ian and Georgina were amazing hosts! Their place is beautifully redone and the room was just as it looks in the photos (if not better!). They gave us great suggestions for what to do in the area. They were always attentive and provided us with the most amazing breakfasts. We are really looking forward to staying with them again in the future.

  • What can I say about the Old Workhouse.....firstly wow! This is an incredible place to stay. Both Ian and Georgina have kept the authenticity of the building but with a modern touch inside. I could not fault the hosts. My partner and I were celebrating our engagement and they made our trip away extra special. The Old Workhouse is warm, clean, cosy and the breakfast outstanding. Both Ian and Georgina accommodated our needs and were incredibly helpful throughout our stay. Highly recommend the Old Workhouse and we would love to stay again.

A stunning Grade II listed town house in the heart of Snowdonia. Only seconds away from the centre of Bala where you can enjoy lovely independent shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. Gorgeous interiors inspired by Italy, Wales and the Scandinavian countries. Proper coffee always available! Bala Lake under 10 mins walk, and other amenities within Snowdonia easily reached by car. I look forward to meet and host you.
Period houses don't need too much gloss - they are beautiful as they are. It will always be my ongoing project to try and get the interiors right. Wales and Italy are my heaviest influences when choosing interiors, however I see myself changing the rooms again, and again in the future! I love to experiment and I will always adapt. I hope you can feel and enjoy the warm, cozy happy Welsh vibe when you stay!

Our lovely family home is set in the heartland of real Wales. Bala hosts the largest natural lake in Wales and is a highly popular destination for many outdoor pursuits. There are many other local attractions and of course there are the many mountains. Come and learn real Welsh!
Beautiful home in the heartland of Welsh Wales. On street parking, garden, 3 bedrooms, 2 front rooms, bathroom, kitchen, utility room. The main front room has a 'Smart' TV with Amazon Prime, BT Sport, Freeview and a Wii also connected. There is a sofa bed here should another double bed be required. Alternatively, a blow-up double mattress could be used in the music room to free up the main front room. The music room (the other front room) has some guitars, a piano and a computer. All are available to guests during your stay. New for 2017 is a 10ft trampoline and a new kitchen...
Friendly, quiet neighbourhood with good neighbours. In town but just enough out of town too.
  • We had an excellent stay in Billy's house. Our kids loved having a few toys/teddies to play with and it was really nice having cats around. Communication with Billy before arrival was perfect. A friend came to open the house and the neighbours said hello. The location is really good, a few minutes' walk from the lake.

  • The place was really cosy. We liked it a lot. We enjoyed our stay. Billy provided us with all information and thus we could locate the place easily. The house has all the facilities. The location of house was perfect for our trip. I would recommend it to others who are thinking of visiting snowdonia. :)

  • We had a great short stay - Billy's house was very homely and comfortable and we settled in really easily. Lake Bala gave us a couple of stunning sunset walks, but the best feature(s) by far were THE CATS! Fwtsy, Dida and Seren are the most sociable and loving creatures on the planet, and they seemed very happy with the attention the three children lavished upon them. (It also gave me some much-needed peace and quiet). We felt as though we had a home in Bala for two short days. Billy's CD also got us nearly all the way home to London in a party mood! Thanks for the stay Billy. Fraser, Hollie, Louis and Lola X

  • We loved the feel of the house, a warm, welcoming family home with three friendly cats for company. The house has plenty of character and is beautifully decorated. Bala itself is a great central location for exploring north Wales. The kids loved it too - 'cats, guitar and wifi'!

  • The place has a fantastic location - close to both the Bala high street and the Bala lake. The house was very large and the cats in the house were brilliant company. We were really taken in by Footsie and this was the fondest memory we carried back from the holiday. Thank you Billy for taking us in and for the wonderful stay.

  • Love North Wales and the location allowed us to accesses the activity center and velocity zip line, 30 min drive. Room's are large and mattresses comfortable. Kitchen had all the things you needed and more - great for the dogs. My favourite item was a good quality fire pit. Thank you all around would highly recommend.

  • Very pleasant, spacious and beautiful place to stay at Bala. I would really recommend this place to my friends. Very friendly host Liam. Much appreciated for this guidance and help during the stay. The place is very clean. Sufficient for more than 10 except one restroom and bathroom. Except waiting for shower when you are part of big group, all perfect

  • A 3.5 star would be more accurate if we could give it. This is a lovely property and Liam was very attentive. It is obviously a work in progress, in early stages, and unfortunately lacked some practical things which were particularly noticeable and awkward as we were a group of 10. All are easily addressed (enough crockery, cooking utensils). There were lovely touches, especially the wood fire, and the location is great - right in the heart of Bala. Liam was easy to contact and helpful.

    Shiuli2017-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • Brilliant place to stay. Liam was very helpful and very friendly. Our party was 5 adult and 4 children and the house was the perfect fit for all of us. I would definitely recommend this house to others.

    Louise2017-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to stay, so close to centre of Bala and great rooms. Nicely furnished and comfortable. Ideal for Lyn Tegid and surrounding area.

  • Great house everything we needed for a family group - spent the whole day at the lake hired canoes and had fun.

    Carol2017-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • 7 of us stayed here for two nights and all of the group were impressed with both the accommodation and the host. Communication was clear and friendly and Liam did everything he could to make our stay a comfortable one. I can't recommend enough.

He helped us with some activities and when one fell through due to weather he was able to help us with an alternative. Would love to go back and highly recommend.

  • Just got back from a great two nights stay at Lindsey's place. 4 of us booked the larger tent for a weekend hiking in Wales. Was just what we needed - a trailed tent with two mattresses and an outdoor flushing toilet. Unfortunately solar shower didn't work as doesn't get enough sun, so we didn't shower for two days, but if you stayed longer you may struggle/have to have a cold one! Main struggle was getting up the hill to the house, it is a very long drive and very bumpy/pot holey, my toyota aygo and another's fiat 500 struggled, so definitely do not bring low cars/sports cars! Bigger cars would manage better! Was a bit easier in daytime when you could see the road, we arrived at 10pm so was difficult but Lindsey waited for us and showed us around which was great. All the amenities you need - used hob in morning for eggs, kettle for tea. May be a struggle to cook a full meal though, need someone to pour water into sink for you to wash up so we ate out at a pub in Bala (5 mins drive away called White Lion - very nice and cheap). Had cups/mugs/cutlery and one night we brought firewood for £5 and had marshmallows around fire which was great. Very muddy so bring wellies, Lindsey had put down breathable carpet so it soaked up a lot of it and made it easier. Chairs/table in tent also so dont need to bring camp chairs, although we did for around fire. Was ~1 hr drive from Snowdon, 5 mins down to Bala lake which does watersports/has a nice little town. Make sure you fill up petrol on the motorway as we didn't find a petrol station for last hour once on the quiet roads! Watch out for the sheep in the road coming up too! Overall a great stay for a few nights, everything we needed and Lindsey was great.

  • Had a lovely 3 day stay at the smallholding. Absolutely fantastic place for children with all the tame animals. Barbecues in the evening were great. Tent very spacious, unfortunately the weather wasn't so good while we were there, but that's camping for you! Highly recommend.

    Phil2017-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed for two nights in the tent and it was wonderful. On the second night we sat out and made a fire and watched the stars. Lindsey was a fantastic host, incredibly helpful for everything we needed. Fully recommend this for people who want to camp somewhere unique, exciting and beautiful!

    Edmund2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • We hired two static tents from Lindsey over the August bank holiday. Lindsey couldn't have been more helpful. Both tents were actually trailer tents which is nice as the beds are off the floor. The tents had all the cooking facilities and utensils needed and the green tent was very spacious for all of us to dine together from both tents. We really enjoyed the fire pit and it was convenient to be able to buy wood and a fire lighters from Lindsey. There were three static tents whilst we stayed which are in a paddock in front of Lindsey's house and garden, although there collection of animals separates the two and we didn't feel overlooked. The animas are a weird and wonderful assortment but certainly added to the stay. We enjoyed being able to stroke a young tawny owl and the little pig that came wondering around in the hope of food was amusing. If animals aren't your thing then this probably isn't the site for you. They were noisy at times. We climbed Snowdon on one of the days. We set off at about 7.45am and drove for an hour all the way around to the carpark next to the Snowdon Railway Station (£8 for the day) in Llanberis. We had children with us so wanted to take the easiest walking route up but other routes wouldn't require such a long drive from the camp site. It's a gorgeous drive in any case. A unique stay in a very quirky place - thoroughly enjoyed by all our party.

  • Great remote location with basic facilities. Loved the animals and my two young sons loved being able to roam around the various fields and woodland. Hosts were very welcoming and friendly.

  • I stayed here with my son during a race weekend at GYG Karting. The place is very peaceful, which is exactly what we needed. They were very kind and prepared an early breakfast at 6am for us, as we had to be at GYG by 7. For the evening, Bala is only about 10 minutes away, with lots of places to eat. The area is beautiful, I wish we had more time to explore.
